RE: [QUAD-L] Questions People ask us Quads.
Title: Message luke try this I went to 125th st. in Harlem/NYC to videotape the exterior of the Apollo Theater and some guy who looked to be living "al fresco" felt he could vent his anger at "the man" by putting 3 pennies by the joystick on my chair. I resisted the natural reaction to brush them away (after all I was not in the position to return his insult) when I moved my chair back for a wider angle, the pennies fell to the ground. About a minute later, a well kept, Sunday-best / hat wearing little 'ol lady stopped to pick up the money with her clean white gloves. You could almost hear her thinking;"find a penny, pick it up" When my eyes met the idiot who left me the money. There was no need for words. This sent him ranting down the streetand screaming about racial persecution, with no concern that his foul language might be offending the other "little 'ol ladies" in ear-shot. My point is- yeah, the woman at Target was a dweeb, but her heart was in the right place. It's the false concern that is the real insult. Ya' never know Regards, Cameron Wallace -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 28, 2005 5:47 PM To: quad list Subject: [QUAD-L] LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK... Dear Quad-list, My life has been filled with its biggest challenges in the past year. August 2, 2004 I had a life-changing diving accident that left me paralyzed from my chest down. I'm considered a quadriplegic because I have a little inervasion in my triceps and wrist flexors and I don't have any independent movement of my fingers. I was a 31-year-old, married, father of two, a successful chef, and a modern man of the house. After my accident, it was unclear what I would be able to do. The doctors made no promises, but I was told that my injury is considered incomplete, which means there's a chance to regain at least some movement and sensation. I spent a total of 115 days away from home. Most of that time was spent in rehab learning how to do such simple things as feed myself, bathe myself, sit up, and how to use what movement I have to be as independent as I can. While I was away from home, the community rallied in support. There were several fundraisers, all aimed at renovating my house for me and my wheelchair. There were many volunteers, friends, family, and complete strangers that donated money, time, prayers, or just generous words of support. Every day I looked forward to coming home. I would speak with my wife every evening, and she would come to visit almost every weekend. Even though it was a little rocky, I always thought we would make it work. We'd been together for over 10 years, married for almost six. I always thought we were soul-mates and would grow old together. We are now facing separation. I guess no one knows what they would do if their spouse became permanently handicapped. How do you know if you're not in the situation? Lots of people have told me that life goes on, you can do anything you could before, just a little different. I heard many success stories of people who went on to have successful careers, marriages, and families after a spinal cord injury. I was especially very positive in the beginning, when I had the support of therapists and specialists. My positive attitude faded when I came home, I became very depressed. I stopped exercising except for physical therapy, and began self-medicating. I was very frustrated with the things I used to be able to do at home. There was a friend who had been staying at my house for several months who was helping my wife with many of the things I used to do around the house. I was only home for two weeks before they became intimate. The Monday after New Year's she told me she wanted to move out, a week later she told me what had happened and had been going on for a month. I thought I could share her. It was only a matter of months before I snapped. She has left me the house, and acquired an apartment down the street for her and the kids, so they can come and visit often. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for a couple of close friends who have moved into my house to help me. How do I move on? I believe I have a lot to offer, I used to think we would be together forever, now I'm craving companionship, intimacy, and someone to be close to. I am grateful for any advice and or feedback, Truly yours, Paralyzed and Confused in the Adirondacks JT... 32 YO... C6... ALMOST 1 YR POST

Reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:1) The bandage was wound around the wound.2) The farm was used to produce produce.3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.4) We must polish the Polish furniture.5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time topresent the present.8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.10) I did not object to the object.11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.13) They were too close to the door to close it.14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant norham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine inpineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries inFrance.Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. Wetake English for granted. But if weexplore its paradoxes, we find thatquicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig isneither from Guinea nor is it a pig.And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groceand hammers don't ham? If the plural oftooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. Soone moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices?Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend. If youhave a bunch of odds and ends and get rid ofall but one of them, what do you call it?If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eatsvegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylumfor the verbally insane. In whatlanguage do people:Recite at a play and play at a recital?Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and awise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your housecan burn up as it burns down, in which youfill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by goingon.English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects thecreativity of the human race, which, of course,is not a race at all. Title: Agree to disagree People I sent this note today. Duplicity was not my intent, but relieving someone of the feelings of being shunned is our obligation for many reasons but most importantly because needing a haven and a place to grow is why this list exists. -C - Carol I was surprised Jim(the guy who runs the quad list) had taken the strong reaction of removing your name from the list. Others have also expressed strong, unpopular opinions that are subjects that are just avoided. Chalk it up to having a bad day. Whatever the cause, I don't want you to think everybody on the list feels O.K. with this decision and I see it having a dampening effect to future discussions. While I don't think one viewpoint is enough to base an opinion on, exclusion is not the answer. I would rather have people see different viewpoints and that will add balance to anyone's view. They are ruthless, they will die before they would return to THEIR country. they are breeding like flies.I say if we don't shut the borders now and send the illegals back then the United States as it is now will perish. Here at the hospital we have access to patient information and since this is a University hospital they can't be turned away. You'd be surprised how many hispanic names there are. and many are young girls as young as 12 yrs having babies. If you look at the court dockets you see many hispanic names. They buy houses on land contracts from slum lords at highly inflated prices. They buy cars from weekly pay lots. They have the same privileges as us citizens have and I don't think this is RIGHT. However since most of the National guard is in Iraq I doubt we have enough manpower to send them anyplace. I wonder whose bright idea this was to let them all come here. Carol in KY

A majority of mankind here in the U.S. don't (or can't) see the long-term consequences of opening our borders. Soo, if it doesn't affect them personally they shy away from it. Someone else's problem. It has affected me in two states. In Va .. the influx of illegal blacks are coming from Ethiopia or Guana in huge numbers. And they have the attitude that SOMEHOW in their narrow selfish minds ... they feel that the U.S. OWES THEM everything. Here in Tucson (an our away from the Mexico border) the influx of illegal Hispanics is having it's own issues. Most recently - TWENTY SIX illegals were in ONE CAR and I think it caused an accident (Todd or Julie may add specifics). THEN *WE* foot the bill for *their* injuries when OUR OWN citizens need care but sometimes don't get it because of overpopulation now. We're on the same page, aren't we Cameron? Title: Isn't this forum about discussion? People Why is the only thing mentioned about my reaction to straight out knee-jerk reaction to a changing society is the ending of the posts, but with sympathy for the author's feelings . I tried to clarify my intent and realize my Enrich my Wordpower approach was not the best choice-should a perceived slight trump the point I was writing about? If you think I'm full of shit-speak up or is this like Bush's cabinet where if your not for us, your against us? This was sent to me. I totally agree, never once mentions pursuing education or reproduction as bad things. Speak your mind. Back it up. Or maybe you might think about a different tact -Cameron PS Carol- at no point did I mean to offend- but it was a bit heavy handed Story in Tampa Newspaper Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice?? Think about it All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please! IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the politically correct! crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! In God We Trust is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity! to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for America to Speak up If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it! AMEN I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers

Depending on the need of, and availability of necessary equipment to adapt the vehicle. Some new vehicles can be purchased off the floor with very little wait. Some adaptive equipment must be added at time of construction. On full size van, 8-12 weeks of normal construction On mini vans, 4-6 weeks from the time the factory starts conversion. Deposits: depends on your relationship with the dealer. If you are providing the chassis, you shouldn't need a down payment. If the chassis is being purchased by the dealer for conversion at the factory, your going to have to pay for the chassis. Remember, if you get angry and want out of the contract, the dealer is stuck with a chassis that has to be sold to someone else. And that takes time and money. Proceed slowly and at YOUR pace. If you are not comfortable with any situation before you are committed to a contract, turn around and stroll out the door. You can always turn around and come back. Once you are committed to a signed contract... your options are few. I have a rear entry minivan and will NEVER go back to a side entry. I can park anywhere without worrying about some idiot parking on the striped area. Unless you park on the street, I see no advantage to a side entry. Possibly a bit more space inside. I used to have a 3/4 ton full size van. What a pain in the ass using a lift is compared to just cruising up the short ramp on my minivan. It was also a hassle getting my long chair turned 90 degrees once I rolled into the van from the lift. With my full size van, even if no one was parked in the striped area, my lift and chair were too long for me to get in my van just using the striped area. I had to use part of the next space too. My fiancee hated driving the big full size. However, if you travel a lot you'll appreciate the extra room in a full size. This means nothing though if you have needs that require a particular kind of van. One word of caution though if you want to use an ez-lock with a rear entry minivan. The rear entry minivans have a slight hump in the floor in the rear. If you want to use an ez-lock, your chair and the ez-lock must fit on the level area in front of the hump. The chair will probably fit. I have an older design Ranger X with the old style long frame and size 12 feet and my chair fits fine. I could not use an ez-lock because part of the ez-lock's docking station would have been on the angled part of the hump. Where the docking station ends up being located is going to depend on the design of the chair, your size, and where the pin would be located on your chair. The pin is usually placed between the drive wheels, so, a front wheel or mid-wheel drive chair shouldn't be a problem. If your chair is rear wheel drive, the aforementioned factors come into play. The rear wheel drive chairs from Invacare and Pride today have much shorter frames. The rear wheels are located much closer to the driver, and probably won't be a problem. My old chair has a really long frame. They don't even make it anymore. Unfortunately if you have a rear wheel drive chair, the only way to be sure is have an ez-lock installer look at your chair in the van. Like I said though, chairs designed today have much shorter frames. EricCameron Wallace wrote: Hey people What factors or models of van should be considered when looking for a conversion van? [QUAD-L] FW: George Carlin's Views On Aging `````takes a minute to load but worth it
Title: Message George Carlin's Views On Aging ..Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids?If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions. "How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!"You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key. You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number ... or even a few ahead. "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21. YE!!! But then you turn 30. Oooohh what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk. He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now. You're just a sour-dumpling.What's wrong? What's changed? You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes .. it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 . and your dreams are gone. But wait!!! You MAKE IT to 60.You didn't think you would! So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE IT to 60. You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end thereInto the 90s, you start going backwards ... "I Was JUST 92." Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again."I'm 100 and a half!" May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!! ..HOW TO STAY YOUNG 1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height.Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them!"2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. 3. Keep learning.Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's. ..4. Enjoy the simple things...5. Laugh often ... long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. .. 6. The tears happen.Endure, grieve, and move on.The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.Be ALIVE while you are alive. ..7. Surround yourself with what you love ...whether it's ... family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge. ..8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it.If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help. ..9. Don't take guilt trips.Take a trip to the mall ... even to the next county .to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is. 10. Tell the people you love that you love them ..at every opportunity.AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. And if you don't send this to at least 8 people .. Who Cares! But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day.

It will produce a lot of mucous at first because part of your intestine was used and that produced mucous! It will bleed, the edge of the hole is tender right now. I kept a SP in for nearly a year before 'trusting' that weird thing in my belly. Make sure you irrigate it!! At least daily. Do not be gentle about it! Put 60cc's of sterile water inn the syringe and shove it in! Then pull 30cc's out! When you pull out, do not pull if you get resistance--the end of the catheter may be against the wall of your new bladder. Irrigate again. I irrigated at least twice or until it pulled back clear. It is amazing how much mucous can build up in 24 hours. Between cathing, cover it with 2 x2's or a 4x4. It will keep the irritation of clothes down. When you do cath, make sure you get far enough in--the first few weeks of cathing, if my doc did it, I would be flabbergasted as far in she would put it. The type of cath I use, only about 5-6 inches sticks out in order to get it all the way in. I really should measure that. I will let you know what kind of cath I use as those red rubber hospital kind might as well be a piece of spaghetti! Plus they drain slowly. Do you still have a SP in? Using that at night gives the hole a chance to rest and the sides to heal a bit. If the cath will not go in easy, if there is resistance, take a deep breath and let it out--relax! And keep your water drinking up! It will help expand the new bladder--altho if you are cathing only every 4 hours, I would cut back on the water, or just sip it now and then. If you drink a whole glass it will hit in about an hour and you will need to cath every 20-30 minutes, if that much, as your bladder will not be able to hold that much liquid at a time. If your are leaking, up the caths to 3 hrs. It will take quite a while to get used to it and to the new feelings you will get. They re-arranged your insides! They will be sore. A picture will help. Sometimes, no matter what you do, the durn thing will 'not' go in. Relax for a bit and have someone else try. The angle of the cath will help. When it goes in the hole have it pointed down a bit towards the new bladder. The main thing is to be patient! It will work--stay on ditropan or whatever you use for bladder relaxation. What kind of cath are you using? The red rubbers are the softest, but because of that it does not have enough stiffness to get thru the tight times, but will eventually if you lubricate. I forgot about lubricating--its been so long since I have used it, I forget about it. Basically its one of those things that the more you 'fight', the worse it is. Then suddenly it will go in, and you have no idea what you did! I will be signing off for the day, but be optimistic, it will work and see ya tomorrow! take care, Dana and ? Joel This list is open to anyone concerned with quad-opinions/interest. If your reticence to post is out of wanting to honor Rosie's feelings, maybe it's time for Rosie to rethink motivation. I can see a want from you to be accommodating and a desire from Rosie to assert conviction of opinion. This is not meant as a slight to Rosie, but reading between the lines. If I'm inaccurate, I apologize, that is what I've gleaned from both your posts. Anyway. since Rosie is entitled to a new wheelchair in 2005 so we are looking into which one we might get and I was wondering if any of you have opinions on the subject. She currently has a Jazzy 1120 (which has worked flawlessly for almost 5 years now). Do any of you have a chair that elevates in height or use a stander chair? Experience with wheel diameters? Title: Message Lori- Here's some interesting news that is not going to be offered up by Dr.s because there are no follow-ups or prescriptions formedicine involved. It is something told to me by my HHA who has been doing this job since the 1960's and had very practical and effective advise. For litigious reasons I have to write that professionals should be contacted (by phone or whatever) to searchout valid contrary opinions. This method should only be done to closed sores This is surprisingly simple: Have a basin of hot water (as hot as possible without scalding you) With a hot, wrung out, slightly wetfresh face cloth-warmand open the pores of the area and it also helps increase blood circulation too. If the skin is very thin -just hold the cloth there. If you can massage the area without tearing your skin, do soAs the cloth starts to cool, redip the cloth, wring it out and reapplyAfter 3-4 times, put Epson salt (plain 'ol Epson salt) on a hot, slightly wet face cloth and make a poultice (loose sandpaper). Either place or massage area (remember, it's like sandpaper) redip cloth and slightly wring out and reapply more Epson salt leave skin with salt alone for 2-3 minutes With a wet, wrung out , slightly wet fresh cloth-wipe away saltpat dry bath as usual if you have sensation on your butt, you will know if it's working I had 2 or 3 sores start in the past 4 years that never get beyond the red skin stage when that itch starts do this to cut the sore off at the knees :) good luck-Cameron -Original Message-From: Lori Michaelson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, December 04, 2004 4:37 PMTo: QuadSubject: Re: [QUAD-L] Re: Bored! [QUAD-L] RE: ~ Bobbie here ~
Title: Message Bobbie It's me, Cameron. I have gotten comfort in knowing your letter was always at the beginning of the active letters pile in my emails, but when I wanted to send birthday salutations, I was a little embarrassed to realize that it has been 7 months before I wrote back. I have been remiss and I am sorry. My schedule is not as crowded as it might be to cause this gap. My rational in the past has been that I was waiting for something worth mentioning before I wrote. I thought writing Happy Birthday was a really good way of letting you know I was thinking of you. The other week, I was talking about you(objectively) to my speech therapist, as an example of someone who is self-possessed and exudes a confident aura (and on wheels). I hadn't said your name, but Angela (from VNA) askedyour nameand that confirmed she knew you. We both agreed that you are a ray of sunlight to others and we touched on the fact that you take time to visit "new members" to this club that no one would seek to join. I would feel judged and too afraid of a negative reaction to do that. People might not see it at first, but you help ease the transition of people entering into a new, alien and trying world. I hope your effect on these scared people is also seen/felt by you. I wish for you all the hope and good feelings you inspire, ten fold. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIDDO!!! xxx, Cameron PS You were the first person I did not know, who actively sought me out, to engage me in conversation since my "change" - years before. Title: Message River and Jim You're both kinda' right, but seeing it with partisan slant it seems. The content of Kerry's response was completely within an inclusive, democratic, vote-getting (maybe a bit of pandering) agenda. But that has to be better than Bush's "usVS those queers whochose a god-hated, ostracized, unworthy of being acknowledged, hedonistic, diseased deserved" life style. By concentrating on lesbians it was both an attempted slight by Kerry toward Bush because , after all, Kerry is ready to deal, but knew it was still a bit "untidy" for the Bush camp and he was testing the waters of the voting pool to gauge the acceptable level of mud-throwing the voting public will accept. This unneeded addition of Kerry adding "who is a lesbian", rightfully may have elicited a groan- rest assured Kerry's future comments on this subject will be much more polished. I've been here for 6 weeks staying at a hotel until I bought a house. I just got in and got my cable and Internet setup today. My house is filled with boxes, but I'm an offical Arizonian now. It's cooled down to the mid 90sthis week, but it's been about 105 since I got here. The afternoons were to hot to stay out, but after the sun went down it was so perfect. The warm air was so relaxing. I thought I'd subscribe again now that I have a home... Greg
RE: [QUAD-L] ADAPT magic
Riv The idea that an issue that is so important to me personally, can be a topic that is on the table for discussion by a presidential candidate, gives me cautious optimism. Reading those minutes/newsletter of events- made me feel as though the guy that happened to have 8 extra tickets sounds like an angel bearing gifts GBAmerica for her opportunities REALLY! -CW -Original Message- From: River Wolfe [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2004 3:40 PM To: quad Subject: [QUAD-L] ADAPT magic Ok folks, please read this through. Mr. Kerry clearly understands the issue of community support AND isn't afraid to let our people speak in his rallies. WOW, this brought me to tears, simply knowing that a leader will let someone speak in public and isn't afraid of their free speech rights Friday September 17, 2004: ADAPT magic happened again at the Town Hall Meeting in Aurora, Co with presidential candidate John Kerry. The local ADAPT group had spent the week trying to get tickets to attend the rally for Mr. Kerry on Friday and had been unsuccessful. On Friday at 2PM a decision was made and eight of us loaded up in a van to attempt to get into the meeting without tickets. The magic started immediately. The parking lots were full so we asked one of the police officers if we could unload the van before parking. You have two minutes to unload, he said, and don't go past the cones. As we pulled into the parking lot another officer said, You need to pull around right in front. But we were told not to go past the cones. And I'm telling you to go past the cones and unload. Past the cones we went. As we got to the doors we asked several people to find a specific individual, as she was to have the tickets for us. Of course, she couldn't be located, but a group of us sitting to the side were offered tickets by a man and coincidentally he had exactly eight tickets. Inside we went. We were able to pass security without too much hassle, and were directed to the side of the gym with a good view of the podium where Mr. Kerry would be speaking. The group in the wheelchairs moved up the aisle, where they were stopped by one of the union women sitting on the aisle who explained they could move no closer. As soon as she had lost interest in them and moved her foot Dawn Russell took them to the very front of the row. In his speech Mr. Kerry was very up front about the problems he saw with the present administration and the changes he was prepared to initiate. The main focus of his speech was health care and his healthcare plan for the nation, and we were clear we had come to the right place at the right time. After his speech Mr. Kerry took and responded to questions from the audience. He handed the microphone to a woman sitting next to Dawn and her question was about what would happen to her Medicaid with all of the budget cuts that were going on. As Mr. Kerry stepped back to begin his answer quiet Dawn Russell said, I have an answer to the Medicaid problems, Senator Kerry. And the Senator kneeled down and held the microphone for her. ADAPT magic at work. Senator Kerry, there are over 1 million people in nursing homes across the United States. It would cost one-third less to support them in the community. Colorado is one of the best in the country at community supports, but across the country people are having to leave their home states to come to places like Colorado to live in our own homes in the community and receive services, said Dawn. Senator Kerry responded, This is Dawn Russell from ADAPT, and she is right. No one should be forced to live in a nursing home. Mr. Kerry went on to remark on ADAPTs 14 year battle to pass legislation that would assist individuals including the elderly and the coming Baby Boomers to continue to live in their own homes. He stated that children should not have to work extra to take care of or pay for their parents. Services in the home with attendant care will not only save money, but increase jobs and pay a living wage for attendants. People should have the choice of where they live and should all be able to live independently and with dignity. ADAPT magic, Senator Kerry. Though there were some disagreements, the following received the mostvotes:1. Egypt's Great Pyramids 2. Taj Mahal 3. Grand Canyon4. Panama Canal 5. Empire State Building 6. St. Peter's Basilica 7. China's Great WallWhile gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had notfinished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having troublewithher list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mindbecausethere were so many."The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World'are:1. to see 2. to hear3. to touch 4. to taste5. to feel 6. to laugh 7. and to love."The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder -- that the mostpreciousthings in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man. They are giftsfrom God.

Title: Message Houston When I reread my letter, it made feel as though I should also be apologizing for appearing so professorial, the B.S. of writing "blindsided means" could have been expressed without coming across so curt. I didn't feel insulted by your first email. The reason I felt the need to say anything at all was because it is me or no one. I need to say something when I hear old ideas being passed as accepted truth. You are a honest guy with an open-minded outlook and still thought it was OK to write about things that perpetuate the myths that make 90% of the world see gay males as sick, dirty, child molesting and different from normal. Let's face it- how can another personrespond to or accept anything that they know nothing about? I have been challenging statements like yours since I was 17. Not that it makes me immune to feelings of underlying shame and secretiveness. I have always been happy to "pass" as straight if only because it was easier. I was envious of the fact my ex felt at ease with .shall we say ..being light in his loafers- because it was natural for him. I'm sure it was madeless confrontational by being 6'2" and being built like a brick s**thouse. It's not much different than comments about Jews, blacks, Latinos, Muslims or whatever. The people saying them haveno ill intent.but. This is what political correctness really is and not the hyper-cautious bull that's parroted by people claiming to be inclusive. We all have stories to relate, who we screw(or get get screwed by)and/or who we love should only be one facet.
