Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances
I DEFINITELY think only those with dark hair can look ok in the Goth thing. Black sure does nothing for me. Pastels...yes. My step-daughter moved in with us in 2001 and she thought "Daddy" was going to let her buy anything everything in the Gothic store "Hot Topic." She said "it's essential!" Dad told her to wait till school started to see if she still felt that way. Her tune did change. And we weren't going to buy "Gothic ESSENTALS" LOL ... anyway. T-shirts jeans became her style quickly. I've noticed that, since the 1980s, with girls and women... anything goes these days! The ONLY "in" thing I've noticed on tv or in towns... is girls under 30 who are thin ... they wear the low-cut jeans (enough for belly-button to show) with big belts and shorter tops. My one niece (as a teen and early 20s) was definitely anti-fashion. She's 30 now a teacher so she dresses accordingly. I'm at the age where I'm old enough not to be anti-fashion. Or into fashion. No extremes. Just nice clothing. My ONLY change has been ... that "prior" to 8 yrs ago ... I wouldn't be caught dead in sweat pants or polyester/cotton pants. JEANS ONLY. Every color imaginable but JEANS ONLY in winter. In summer I've been wearing cullottes/pedal-pushers/capris or the name du jour of those that go to the knee to cover my leg bag which I wear on my thigh in summer. My 25th yr of doing that. Capris seem to be in style every summer lately anyway. I like Amanda Quick's Gothic Romance novels and gothic history. But as "fashion" or "not" ...not high on my priority scale. Especially spending 5 months in bed for a wound. UTIs and staying alive. Lori ---Original Message--- I can't speak for everyone, but the Goth image displays me, it's who I am. Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances
I'm with you. I do look like crap sometimes and I don't care, but also it's when I am home. I'm not worried about what I look like when I am here. I take care of myself like I did before I was sick. If I want to veg and pull up my hair without even brushing it yet, then that is what I am going to do. I make it to brush my teeth and that is about it. I do change if I am going to go somewhere but I do run into neighbors when I go to check the mail but I also run into the same neighbors when I am going out and returning home so they know that I care what I look like in public. I actually came to be very close with my neighbors next door and know the guy across the street from before I got sick. I have gotten friendly with the other surrounding neighbors and they are still friendly with me and have conversations with me no matter what I look like. I just make sure I look decent when I am going somewhere.I dont put on my leg bag unless I go out. If I leave to check the mail or sit outside, I just make sure the bed bag that is hanging fromchair is empty andmost of the tubing is pushed under my pant leg. I dont make an extra effort to curl my hair or put on makeup every time I go out. The only time I put on make up is if I have dark circles underneath or look pasty that day. I still think I look good without it. I also dont bother curling my hair all the time. I have way to much to be bothered with it all the time. It's over half way down my back. I do throw rollers in it to get out the frizz after blow drying it and get some curl to the ends b/c it's layered and looks like crap if I don't but if it's a day that I dont wash my hair and going somewhere, it's going it a pony tail which I think still looks nice. I go to Wal-Mart, grocery store, etc..and run into someone I know just about every time I go. I knew a lot of people when I waited tables and can't go anywhere without knowing someone. They look like crap too in sweats, no make up, and hair thrown up. The guys usually look worse. I just make sure I look decent. Plus, not sitting straight can cause real problems on your butt. And sitting on wrinkles or having your pants bunched in your crotch is not good. I always recline after I get up to get everything straightened out. You have to protect yourself from sores. 1 bad sore and you could be in bed for months. You are responsible for protecting yourself.. Speak-up and loudly. Greg Yea HoustonI make sure my clothes are straight and tell my aids to dress me accordingly. I feel the same way as you, especially about the urine bags. I have a bed bag which hangs on my chair, but I had someone designed a cover to go over it and a cover for the tubing (which I usually cut down). Most people do not even know that I have a bed bag on my chair and when I go to the hospital, where they should know I'm wearing some sort of bag, they hardly ever realize that I am wearing a bed bag on my chair.Billy from TampaC2-39 years postHouston809 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Jim you are correct about taking care yourself to look attractive. Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances
Title: Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances Mark thats another point I guess some arent able to tell their aides about what they want to wear. But its because they choose not to thats their right to wear what they want. Theres also the issue of smell if theres a problem medically thats different but 2 not have your aid wash you up put on deodorant maybe some lotion so that you dont look like a crocodile (maybe thats a blk thing :) ) but when Im around someone in a chair and their odor is offensive 2 me then weeks l8r they still smell maybe eve worse. Some quads aren't as vocal or as lucky as some of us and it bugs me to see them looking like a 2 year old dressed them but their situation might not be as good as should be so I try to tell them to be more vocal about their care but some just can't help it. Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances
Every single day I wear a dress or skirt and make-up. I don't even own a pair of blue jeans [because I don't wear pants] but I do have a denim (sp) skirt. OH, and I also try and wear a smile too. Bobbie
Re: [QUAD-L] Sci appearances
The aides got so frustrated with me when I was in the hospital for the same reason. They would pull out clothes for me to wear and I spoke up when something didn't go well together. One wanted to put me in a pajamas pant set. I refused to wear that and it turned into an argument. I would get visitors and it's not like they were scheduled. I definitely directed my care when I was in the hospital. I would have them pull my hair up because it was so long and they would just do it however not caring if strands were sticking out. I said something to an aide that put a pony tail way on top of my head to where my hair was falling in my face. Her reply was 'who's doing this?' My reply was 'who's head and hair is it?'. No some of them didn't like me at all. I was so determined to get my arms back just so I could do it myself and not have to hear the crap.
