I believe my main problem is copying the files to dom0 in general, because that

You didn't actually type the angle brackets <> around the vm and file
names, did you? If so, that would probably be your problem.

I changed the NetVM of whonix-gw from sys-net to anon-whonix (so whonix-gw
finally has a NetVM that uses Whonix as its template) , and the Tor Control
Port problem no longer appears. However, a Tor Bootstrap problem appears:

I don’t understand why this is happening. My internet connection is working and
Tor is not censored in my area. So I opened Arm, but it was lagging and I
couldn’t do anything on it.

Perfect! I was trying to figure out why 4.13.4 was panicking when used
in a VM too (dom0 seemed to work fine) but didn't have enough time to
really dig deep into the kernel options and didn't actually try to boot
4.12.14 either; I just assumed it worked (the last one I tried was
4.12.13). I'm glad you figured it out! Hopefully, there won't be anymore
weirdness when 4.14 (the next LTS kernel) comes out.

Hello Beso,

> and nothing else

I am using mobile broadband within Qubes and am happy to help, but honestly
your question/problem is to unqualified.

- what version of Qubes are you running?
- what modell of mobile broadband card are you using?
- how is the broadband card connected? Probably as an internal USB device.
- are you using sys-usb to connect the card to your sys-net VM? Or are you
passing through the whole USB controller?
- have you tried to boot up a Fedora live Linux and check if your mobile
broadband is working there?
- what does "keeps connecting" means?

My suggestion:
Try to get the mobile broadband card working without Qubes (Linux Live Boot
from USB-Stick).
If you got it working try to make it work in Qubes.

[qubes-users] Is it possible to use application depending on local discovery in an Qube?

2017-10-01 Thread Mayeu

Hello,

I am trying to use the application Syncthing[1] and also SSBC[2] based
application like patchwork[3] on Qubes 4.0-rc1

Those application are using local discovery in your network to connect
to other local peers. For my use case, it is critical that I don't
depend of any external servers outside of my network for synchronization
of data. It is not specifically a privacy stance, but simply the fact
that I don't always have access to a reliable and speedy internet
access, and I want some of my data to be seamlessly synchronize between
my phone and laptop (for example, camera pictures)

[1] https://syncthing.net/
[2] https://github.com/ssbc/secure-scuttlebutt
[3] https://github.com/ssbc/patchwork

Syncthing for example require the port 22000/tcp to be available, and
the discovery/broadcast happen on the port 21027/udp, I have tried the
following setup on my sys-net:

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 22000 -d 192.168.0.11 -j
DNAT --to-destination
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp --dport 21027  -j DNAT
--to-destination
iptables -I FORWARD 2 -d -p tcp --dport 22000 -m
conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD 2 -d -p udp --dport 21027 -m
conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT

Then on the sys-firewall I have:

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp --dport 21027  -j DNAT
--to-destination
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 22000 -d 10.137.0.4 -j DNAT
--to-destination
iptables -I FORWARD 2 -d -p udp --dport 21027 -m
conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD 2 -d -p tcp --dport 22000 -m
conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT

Finally on the syncthing-vm IP, I just accept everything in input (this
is temporary, I'll reduce to only the needed listening when able to make
it works):

iptables -I INPUT 1 -j ACCEPT

But with all that my devices are not discovered on the network.

Any clue, or idea how I could use this kind of tool in Qube?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best regard

After this i get a blinking "_" underscore line and then the system reboots

Naturally, the situation isn't as simple as you suggest.

Apple licensing has altered from OSX version to version - it's pointless
to talk of this without specifying WHICH version you are talking about.
Also, most of the licenses are not transferable so if you acquired a
second hand MacBook you almost certainly wont have the benefit of the
"virtualization" clauses in later EULAs.

On your second point, it's easy to get Qubes running on SOME Apple
hardware - in my experience old MacBookPro6.2 works fine with 8GB RAM:
the i5s don't, of course support VT-X but are otherwise fine.

You need to give more information:
WHERE is the file on sys-net? You say you can find it using Files - in
which directory is it to be found?
If you run a command and it gives no reply then the command has finished
without any output. In the case of 'find' it means that no file was
found - this suggests that EITHER the ubuntu image doesnt end in *iso
OR you ran the command somewhere where the file wasnt to be found.

qvm-start is a command to be run in dom0 - you say that you got an
error message - what EXACTLY did you type?

The qvm-run error shows that you have not yet found the location and
filename of the ubuntu image that you downloaded.

You say you downloaded a template and installed it - I assume that you
copied it to dom0 and installed it there?
When you say you "can't find it anywhere" what do you mean?
If you run in dom0 'qvm-ls' you should see an entry for xenial marked
Tpl - If you try to create a new VM then you should see xenial in the
list of availbale templates to use.
If neither is the case, please run this command in dom0:
'sudo dnf list installed|grep template' and confirm that the xenial
template is included in the output.

FWIW - I have a MacBook Pro with OS X. I want to run qubes on my MacBook Pro,
and OS X inside qubes. OS X is the running on genuine Apple hardware. No
license agreements broken. Cheers.

I am not arguing that this is a good use case to work on for Qubes developers,
just saying that the license argument is untrue.

Sadly, getting Qubes to run on Apple hardware isn't super easy either.

Solved. There is a bug in Seabios, which disables the TPMchip. So you have to
use any other payload.
