Stay with SqueezeBox. The only real benefit to UE is the addition of
the iHeartRadio service. Everything else is pretty much the same as far
as services offered.
There are *many* draw backs in usage and customization with UE vs
SqueezeBox.

Not sure it will help but you can try a Firmware Rollback:
1) Turn Radio off: Press & hold the power button till you see
“Goodbye”
2) Turn back on: Press & hold REW and PWR buttons simultaneously

Is it really a SqueezeBox Radio and not a UE Radio with SqueezeBox
firmware? Was it purchased new? You the original owner?
If purchased new within the last two years and you have the original
receipt you may need to send back for warranty replacement (which likely
means you would receive back a UE Radio which can be upgraded to
SqueezeBox Radio via a firmware update).

Other than that, if the big knob will not function with the menu's (turn

Logitech phone support? Tried a SB remote if you have another SB player

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Local location is not correct

2013-08-22 Thread toby10

The problem is your ISP and how it reports it's assigned IP's to to the
internet.

Local Region
Logitech Media Server (LMS) and MySqueezeBox.com (MySB) decide what your
“local” region is based on your ISP info which is part of your IP
address from your modem. Many ISP’s market areas cover a very wide area
with how they assign customers IP’s, while other ISP’s assign IP’s to
much more specific areas within their market.

Ex: An ISP may use an IP assigning method for the entire Eastern NY
state. While another ISP may use an IP assigning method for a very
specific region like just NYC.

To get more specific to your actual local radio offerings you need to
(if not done already):
create a free account on www.MySqueezeBox.com
create a free account on www.TuneIn.com
enter your local area within your TuneIn profile
enter your TuneIn login info onto www.MySqueezeBox.com (MySB > Accounts
> TuneIn)
your new “local” region should now be in MySB > Browse > Local

LMS uses MySB in the background for Internet Radio play so the above
would still need to be accomplished even if you intend on using LMS on
your local computer.
To do so:
follow all instructions above
enter your MySqueezeBox account info onto LMS > Settings > MySqueezeBox
your new “local” region should now be in LMS > Internet Radio > Local
you can access TuneIn settings, presets, folders, etc.. via LMS > My
Apps > TuneIn

The big catch is those mfrs have an active income stream from selling
hardware (players) to support development of adding services.
SqueezeBox (Logitech) has no hardware to sell so there is no money

Scroll down (might be below screen) to “create a new MySB.com login”,
enter your correct MySB.com login email and password.

SB Radio Factory Reset =
- power off Radio (press & hold POWER button, see "goodbye" on screen)
- press & hold “+” button
- power ON Radio
- continue holding “+” until you see "Factory Settings Restored"
- wait till Radio completely reboots on it’s own

Never done the update to UE so it's just a possible solution.

Or, try to go back to SB version by going to Radio > Settings > Advanced

Or, try a Firmware Rollback to SB version:
Radio FW Roll Back (will only be rolled back one version) =
1) Turn Radio off: Press & hold the power button till you see

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi Icon stays red

2013-12-22 Thread toby10

The very slightest movement of a WiFi device and/or it's antenna can
sometimes make a very noticeable difference. In troubleshooting
networks I can slighly change the angle of the routers antenna and this
can sometimes mean a 10% or greater increase in signal quality. About
the worst spot to place a WiFi router is right near any other electronic
equipment (computer, modem, phone, etc..). Then there are unknown (and
changing) environmental factors like neighbors using new devices, other
WiFi's, cordless phones, microwave ovens, appliances, etc...

Yes, but changing the entire routers orientation will do the same thing
as moving external antennas. That's why almost all routers have the
ability to be hung on a wall versus just sitting flat on a table. This
offers different orientation options depending on ones needs and
environment.

WiFi signals are not an equal isotropic "sphere" where the signal is the
same in all directions all the way around the antenna. WiFi signals are
generally more of a donut shape or can be very directional depending on
the hardware being used. This is why orientation, even in small
measures, can make a big difference in WiFi throughput, signal strength,
reliability, etc..

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WLAN Problem on "downgraded" ue radio

2014-03-02 Thread toby10

Having a fixed ch for WiFi is recommended for basic and reliable WiFi
use anyway, regardless of the WiFi devices in use. My Radio (and three
other SB players) work flawlessly on ch 11 on my WiFi.

If the router keeps changing ch's then *every* device will be
disconnected from that router (WiFi). Obviously this interrupts the
stream. Now the devices need to reconnect onto the new router assigned
ch. How fast (and successful) this happens depends on the device. Full
fledged computers and more advanced devices like smart phones will do
this rather quickly. Dumber devices, like SB players, will struggle
more with this ch changing situation.

Yes, try Factory Reset, then re-setup networking. It will not revert to
UE.

This is normal. It is designed to save the battery when not actually
playing (idle).

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Automatic standby after of being idle some time

2014-06-02 Thread toby10

A stream stopping can be caused any number of things including the
station itself. If you cannot resume play by simply pressing Play or
FFWD then it is likely an issue with your network or configuration. I
never have to reboot the SB player (I have four) just to get it to
resume playing a stopped stream.

Yes, other than what gary suggests of setting the Screen behavior for
Standby (like to display clock). But truly "off" automatically is not
an option unless you want to reprogram the Radio's firmware itself.

Guest network? Sounds like the WiFi devices are on a different network
than your LMS host computer. What are the IP address' of the two WiFi
units and the computer hosting LMS?
Using anything else as part of the network? Switch? Hub? Powerline

Should work fine, as long as the sub has it's own x-over. Boom will
likely sound better as it has two speakers, is stereo, and has it's own
x-over for sub use.
Had a sub on my Boom for years. Never tried it with my Radio.

No new apps are forthcoming for the discontinued Squeezebox line. But
you have several options.

1. Can update your Squeezebox Radio to the UE Radio which has the
iHeartRadio app. Same hardware player just running different firmware
(Squeezebox & UE).

2. Find most any playable URL, cut & paste it into your Favorites on
MySqueezeBox.com.

It won't communicate anything via WiFi if WiFi is not being used. If
you look in your router's "connected devices" you will see your Radio
listed once as "wired".
If it was connected by both interfaces (wired and WiFi) you would see it

I don't use Whitebear, but I believe that was the entire reason for it.
Making UPnP players accessible to LMS and making SqueezeBox players
accessible to (non-LMS) UPnP servers (like WMP). The later is likely
the issue you are seeing, won't work absent a Whitebear type interface
between SqueezeBox and WMP. Possibly there is something new in Win10
and/or WMP later releases that Whitebear is not currently programmed
for. :(

But again, I'd try Whitebear author, if still around, ask him. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] weak wi-fi

2015-10-09 Thread toby10

WiFi basics

Some very basic WiFi tweaks to possibly improve signal strength and
reliability

___Router Administration Basics (1-5 require admin access to your
router):
1. use a unique SSID name (name of your network/router)
2a. if using a G WiFi: set WiFi to G only (turns off a & b modes)
2b. if using an N WiFi: set to G Compatibility mode (if using G
devices)
3. change the broadcast channel to the least used channel near you (see
*)
4. select a FIXED ch, do not use the “auto ch switching” on the router
5. choose only channels 1 or 6 or 11
___Physical (location)
6. router and WiFi antenna orientation adjustments can help signal
strength
7. try to locate the router as “central” to the home as possible,
keeping in mind length & width & height
8. keep router away from other electronic devices (cordless phones, ISP
modem, computers)
___Simple Maintenance
9. reboot WiFi router every once in a while (once a month is usually
sufficient)

* If your WiFi network card software already gives the ch numbers and
the signal strength of all nearby networks, that's all you need. But
there are free programs like NetStumbler if needed.

Don't think so, I believe the WiFi chip set is part of the main board,
not seperate/detachable like the Boom or SB3 players. But not 100%
sure.
Why do you need N anyway? If you have a true dual band router just set
it to N+G. Doing so, G devices will have no negative impact on N
devices.

Turning On/Off encryption is just a mouse click, nothing to re-setup on
any device.

If printer is appearing then disappearing that also indicates a
network/WiFi issue.

Do you even have N devices? Is LMS computer on N or G? If LMS is on N
it might be on a different network than your Radio & Controller (which
can only be on G).

Yes, but a simple look into Radio diagnostics would reveal if Radio is
on network or not. Or just select Switch to MySB.com, if it plays
internet radio then it is on the network.
Sadly, the WiFi indicator colors used to actually mean something (White,
Blue, Red), but that got botched up long ago (last I heard, anyway). :(

Agree with bpa. Definitely set a fixed WiFi G channel (1 or 6 or 11),
don't use "auto". Also reboot (just unplug and plug back in) the router
once a month. A router is just a computer running very task specific
software. Reboots are necessary for any computer, every now and then.

Dies immediately? While playing something? Or when unplugged and
sitting idle for 10 minutes (which it is designed to do to save
battery)?

Odd. Dunno if it is two bad batteries or one bad Radio (not charging).
With batteries & PSU plugged in go to Radio > Settings > Advanced >
Diagnostics > Power, what is reported?

Are your two batteries Logitech branded or some third party?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] new bug

2015-12-20 Thread toby10

Occurs on both MySB.com and LMS, same result when using Radio > Search
or Global > Search > Internet Radio

After a search Selecting anything with a ">" next to the name simply
displays the Now Playing screen of whatever was playing last.

Example: Radio > Search > a, first two selections are MBB with ">",
won't go into sub-menu, but scrolling to Radio A plays fine. Not sure
you will see exact same search results as the MBB selections are US
based.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more. :)

No idea when it started myself. I seldom use that aspect of TuneIn and
never bother with podcasts (which seems to be where the issue mostly
lies).
The one who first reported it says it "started some weeks ago". Let me
know if you want me to try anything, further diagnosis or fix test.

Probably just waking itself from Standby if it temporarily loses it's
connection to the server.

Try connecting the Radio to MySB.com directly (no LMS). Same issue
occur? Might be your NAS and it's internet/networking connection. NAS
wired?

As suggested, likely networking issue on your end. My Radio works fine
on both LMS and MySB.com with the exception of the few stations that
have changed their streaming format.

Tried rebooting your router? Stations that are not working are from
your Favorites or Presets? Might need to update those URL's.
Sure your ISP isn't throttling your internet?

No, Spotify works fine on LMS. In fact, for older players, LMS is
actually required for Spotify use. Again, it's something on your end
(networking or NAS).

I'm assuming you mean the hospital WiFi requires your devices to enter a
passphrase and/or login to actually get onto the network. Likely it
also requires that you accept their terms of service by checking a box.
These actions require a web browser on the device which your computer
and iPad do have, but your Radio does not have such a web browser.

Your Radio is correctly saying it "is" connected, but it is being
restricted or fenced in from actually accessing the network or internet
because it cannot see nor respond to the web screens required to
proceed.

If the laptop is Windows simply google "internet connection sharing" to
see how to set it up in your laptop network settings. Essentially you
are turning the laptops network card into a router. Typical setup:
laptop is connected to the network via WiFi, Radio is connected to
laptop via ethernet wire.

How you do this on a Mac I have no idea. iPad? Dunno.
