[RDD] EVENT.FIRST_TRANS_TYPE Purpose
I did a grep on 'firstTransType' and this is all that comes up: ./lib/rdevent_line.cpp:RDLogLine::TransType RDEventLine::firstTransType() const ./lib/rdevent.cpp:RDLogLine::TransType RDEvent::firstTransType() const ./rdlogmanager/edit_event.cpp: event_transtype_box->setCurrentItem(event_event->firstTransType()); ./rdlogmanager/edit_event.cpp: event_firsttrans_box->setCurrentItem(event_event->firstTransType()); Does anyone know what 'EVENT.FIRST_TRANS_TYPE' is/was used for because it looks like it isn't used anywhere. [RDD] Loading Logs
I have a question. When loading a log in rdairplay, one must manually scroll down to the current hour in order to start the log at the current time. How would everyone feel about the log automatically scrolling down the current hour when loading a log? Should the log panel stay at the top of the log as it does now? Should it only auto scroll upon load if the Hour Selector is enabled? Re: [RDD] Rivendell and Cirrus Streaming
We used SecureNet before. If I remember correctly, what we had to do was send audio using their Winblows encoder and then send artist/title information using the Icecast PyPAD (RLM) in Rivendell. I do not recall the exact configuration, but SecureNet should be able to provide the information required to set up Icecast for metadata updates. I tried to ask them, but they wouldn't talk to me. They want you to open a ticket. Your first issue is fixed in Rivendell 3. Cart expiration dates are handled during play out, not scheduling, which may or may not be the appropriate thing to do. Re: [RDD] Glasscoder icecast/shoutcast V1
I think that’s the main benefit of IPv6. No more NAT! My belief is IPv6 is being adopted slowly due to the “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” paradigm. I for one don’t like changing anything on my networks unless I have to. Changes always have unintended consequences (just look at some of my Rivendell PRs). Since most people have plenty enough address space and don’t seem to mind running NAT, there isn’t any real reason to change (hey, let’s change our entire network topography for no perceived benefit). I suppose when I ask AWS for an elastic IPv4 address and they tell me to go pound sand, it will force the issue for me. As for my home, Frontier DSL and Rise Wireless… I’m not sure if they can even spell IPv6. There’s also the support issue. I don’t know if you ever had to have someone, that can barely use a mouse, enter an IP address over the phone before. It’s only four 1-3 digit numbers and 3 periods, but you’d think you were having them enter the formula for transparent aluminum. Re: [RDD] Export and Transfer of Audio Carts from 2.19.2 to 3.0.1
Here's what I did: 1) Copy /var/snd from the 2.19.2 system to /var/snd on your 3.0.1 system. 2) Export/dump the MySQL database on your 2.19.2 system and copy the SQL export/dump to your 3.0.1 system. If I recall correctly this is done in RDAdmin on 2.19.2. 3) On the 3.0.1 system run RDDbConfig (Rivendell->Configuration->RDDBConfig) and import your SQL file. After the file is imported it will tell you that the database needs to be upgraded. Upgrade it. It may take a while so be patient. 4) Got into RDAdmin on the 3.0.1 system and make sure you have a host configured that matches the name of your 3.0.1 system. That's all there is to it. Re: [RDD] Rivendell and MusicMaster
It could. In fact, rdnexusd could simply create the same flat file that is currently imported once it detects new data. Nothing in RDLogManager would have to change. So I think this is what we have so far: Changes in RDLibrary are pushed to MusicMaster Library. Changes in MusicMaster Library are pulled into RDLibrary. RDAirplay Event Start/End air times are pushed to MusicMaster Library. MusicMaster schedules are automatically created in path specified by RDAdmin->MusicDataImport setting. Add a "MusicMaster Nexus" import template to RDAdmin->MusicDataImport. Add MusicMaster Nexus rdnexusd configuration to RDAdmin specifying host, port, database, and field mappings. Launch rdnexusd instances from rdservice. Command line utilities. This would have a couple of limitations: Log changes in MusicMaster after a merge would have to be re-merged in RDLogManager. Log changes in Rivendell would not be pushed to MusicMaster. > On May 14, 2019, at 3:38 PM, Fred Gleason wrote: > > On Tue, 2019-05-14 at 15:02 -0700, Patrick Linstruth wrote: >> It's a pull model. The client (Rivendell) initiates all transfers. I feel that ManageServices is where the MusicMaster stuff should go. The library is pretty slick. We can ask for a list of song/metadata changes since the last time we asked. The scheduling isn't quite as elegant. We can either ask for a date/time range and get elements (log events) or not, or there is a "last scheduled" date we can poll for and request new elements that way. Both of these are only a problem if more than one Rivendell host is asking for the same information, in which case we'd have to manage syncs another way. > > Cheers! > > > |-| > | Frederick F. Re: [RDD] Rivendell and MusicMaster
I have not used Replication. At this point in time, I'm mostly working on the RDNexus model and have some command line utilities running. Dealing with the bi-directional library updates has been fairly straight-forward, as was the "as played" info once I added some playout notifications and timestamp data to RDNotification and RDAirplay. It is the scheduler that has a very specific methodology based on importing a flat file at the time the person wants to do the merge. The mere presence of a file turns the red lights green that data is available for a merge. The concept of the "live log" updates you mentioned doesn't seem to fit the existing architecture. That's why I'm asking so many questions about the logs and merging, since that's an area I have not spent a lot of time in. I'm going to continue working on the RDNexus glue between Rivendell and Nexus using command line tools, and once that interface is ironed out, start looking at the actual integration. At this point I'm leaning towards an rdnexusd daemon and a separate admin/configuration from Replication to handle external schedulers. Hopefully we get more feedback on the subject. [RDD] Rivendell and MusicMaster
I am currently working on integrating Rivendell with MusicMaster's Nexus interface. https://www.musicmaster.com/nexus.php For those of you currently using Rivendell with MusicMaster, do you have any suggestions on how you'd like to see this interface work? For starters, we need to be able to keep the two libraries in sync. Should MusicMaster require standard/specific field names for cart number, artist, title, etc or should Rivendell provide for a translation table so that, for example, the Rivendell cart number can be defined in MusicMaster's library fields as anything such as "Cart#", "CartNo", "Cart Number", or "XYZZY"? Should merging remain the same through RDLogManager(1) but have the MusicMaster events come directly from MusicMaster rather than through a flat file. Any feedback would be appreciated. Re: [RDD] Compiling Rivendell 3.0 rc0.0 on debian 9
Clearly we need some instructions for compiling on Debian systems. If anyone has them, maybe we can add them to the master branch. I think in this case it’s because your non-root user path doesn’t have /sbin or /usr/sbin in it. As root you can “which runuser” and see where it’s at. Add the directory that contains runuser to your path and you’ll be golden (at least for configure). [RDD] Autofill Voice Tracks
Sometimes we are not able to voice track all of our slots. This leaves empty spots in the programming. What do people think about the idea of adding a default cart to use if the log machine encounters an empty voice track? For example, it could be set to a cart full of bumpers or sweepers. Re: [RDD] Scheduler codes time taken
There have been some optimizations made to scheduler in Rivendell 3. I'm not aware of any issues with scheduler codes in the 2.x branch, but the stack that keeps track of carts for artist/title separation grows indefinitely which could severely slow down log generation. Rivendell 3 purges the stack during maintenance runs which helps to keep log generation quick. Re: [RDD] Several questions Voice Track & Logs Backups
There isn’t anything different the talent has to do. The magic is handled by the rsync scripts which run in cron. Every 15 minutes I run an rsync script that checks if there are any new voice tracks to send to the server. If there are, it sends them. Every night at midnight I have an rsync script that checks for new audio files (music, sweepers, etc) that have been added to the server. All new content is downloaded to /var/snd on the remote computer. This is all handled behind the scenes. The talent just runs RdLogEdit like normal. The only thing we can’t do remotely is RdAirplay because it is too SQL intensive. With good internet access, RdAirplay would probably work too. It is a hack, but we’ve been doing this for a year without any issues. We have 2 remote studios. Patrick > On Feb 21, 2018, at 1:50 PM, Al Peterson <apeter...@radioamerica.com> wrote: > > Good. Re: [RDD] Several questions Voice Track & Logs Backups
We do remote voice tracking by doing the following: 1) Establish a VPN from remote locations to main Rivendell server location. 2) Remote Rivendell configurations use SQL server over VPN on main Rivendell server. 3) Remote Rivendell configurations use their own local copy of /var/snd. 4) Remote and main Rivendell server keep /var/snd in sync using “rsync” scripts over VPN. The way Rivendell does SQL queries is not very efficient, so other than mild delays while RdLogEdit talks SQL over the VPN, the system works quite well. When I started using Rivendell about a year ago, I found the Wiki very frustrating due to all of the outdated information. As I learned more, I wanted to be able to make changes so the next person wouldn't have to go through the same vetting process I did. I never received a response to my offer to help with the Wiki. Rivendell is amazing. The amount of time and effort that has been put into it is stunning. I do wish the Wiki was open to the Rivendell community for updates much like the source code on Github. [RDD] RDAirPlay and Remote SQL
We have a Rivendell server at a private school where the broadcast studio is. We also have 2 remote Rivendell systems. Each of the remote Rivendell system access the main MySQL running at the school over a VPN. Using rsync scripts, the remote systems keep their own local copy of /var/snd and send local updates to the main Rivendell server. This works fairly well for RDLogManager, RDLogEdit and RDLibrary. What I cannot get to work is RDAirPlay. RDAirPlay is constantly running MySQL queries, even when not playing anything: select CART.TYPE,CART.GROUP_NAME,CART.TITLE, CART.ARTIST,CART.ALBUM,CART.YEAR,CART.ISRC, CART.LABEL,CART.CLIENT,CART.AGENCY, CART.USER_DEFINED,CART.CONDUCTOR,CART.SONG_ID, CART.FORCED_LENGTH, CART.CUT_QUANTITY,CART.LAST_CUT_PLAYED, CART.PLAY_ORDER,CART.START_DATETIME, CART.END_DATETIME,CART.ENFORCE_LENGTH, CART.PRESERVE_PITCH,GROUPS.ENABLE_NOW_NEXT, CART.ASYNCRONOUS,CART.PUBLISHER, CART.COMPOSER,CART.USAGE_CODE, CART.AVERAGE_SEGUE_LENGTH,CART.NOTES, GROUPS.COLOR from CART left join GROUPS on CART.GROUP_NAME=GROUPS.NAME where (CART.NUMBER=10996) select `NUMBER` from `CART` where `NUMBER`=10996 select `NUMBER` from `CART` where `NUMBER`=10996 select `TYPE` from `CART` where `NUMBER`=10996 select `USE_WEIGHTING` from `CART` where `NUMBER`=10996 select CUT_NAME,PLAY_ORDER,WEIGHT,LOCAL_COUNTER,LAST_PLAY_DATETIME from CUTS where (((START_DATETIME<=\"2018-01-22 20:12:17\")&&(END_DATETIME>=\"2018-01-22 20:12:17\"))||(START_DATETIME is null))&&(((START_DAYPART<=\"20:12:17\")&&(END_DAYPART>=\"20:12:17\")||START_DAYPART is null))&&(MON=\"Y\")&&(CART_NUMBER=10996)&&(EVERGREEN=\"N\")&&(LENGTH>0) order by LOCAL_COUNTER ASC, ISNULL(END_DATETIME), END_DATETIME ASC, LAST_PLAY_DATETIME ASC ... select `USE_WEIGHTING` from `CART` where `NUMBER`=10996 select LENGTH,START_POINT,END_POINT,SEGUE_START_POINT,SEGUE_END_POINT,SEGUE_GAIN,TALK_START_POINT,TALK_END_POINT,HOOK_START_POINT,HOOK_END_POINT,OUTCUE,ISRC,ISCI,DESCRIPTION from CUTS where CUT_NAME=\"010996_001\" Then it starts over with the next cart select CART.TYPE,CART.GROUP_NAME,CART.TITLE, CART.ARTIST,CART.ALBUM,CART.YEAR,CART.ISRC, CART.LABEL,CART.CLIENT,CART.AGENCY, CART.USER_DEFINED,CART.CONDUCTOR,CART.SONG_ID, CART.FORCED_LENGTH, CART.CUT_QUANTITY,CART.LAST_CUT_PLAYED, CART.PLAY_ORDER,CART.START_DATETIME, CART.END_DATETIME,CART.ENFORCE_LENGTH, CART.PRESERVE_PITCH,GROUPS.ENABLE_NOW_NEXT, CART.ASYNCRONOUS,CART.PUBLISHER, CART.COMPOSER,CART.USAGE_CODE, CART.AVERAGE_SEGUE_LENGTH,CART.NOTES, GROUPS.COLOR from CART left join GROUPS on CART.GROUP_NAME=GROUPS.NAME where (CART.NUMBER=10720) This seems to continue over and over again, with every cart, forever. This bogs RDAirPlay down so much, the clock updates about every 20 seconds and RDAirPlay is mostly unresponsive. Does anyone know what RDAirPlay is actually doing and why it continually does this? I have not dug into the source code yet, hoping someone knew how RDAirPlay works. We are in the sticks and crappy DSL is about all we can get, so these SQL queries take a long time. [RDD] Using Jack with 2.17.0
I have been trying to figure out how to use Jack with 2.17.0 which was originally installed using the appliance CD. There are so many different web pages out there on how to do this, I don’t know which is the correct one. I believe the current (recommended) method is to: 1) Enable “Start JACK Server” and enter a JACK Command Line in RDAdmin->Manage Hosts->Jack Settings 2) Create a Macro to make all the Jack connections using the “JC” command. Set this cart as Startup Cart. I’ve done this and Jack never starts. Does Jack information still need to be placed in rd.conf? Does Pulseaudio need to be removed? Anything else? [RDD] Advice on pre-recorded show
We have a show segment titled “Celebrate the Music”. The show is about 45 minutes long and plays 3 times a week. Right now, we make one big WAV file using Audition with all the music and voice tracks and load it into a cart. What I’d like to do is make a log with the all the music and voice track markers and then play that log at the specified times. I can see that I can load a log at a specified time, but I’m not sure how to get to the original log at the correct spot. Is there a good way to do this, or is the single WAV the way to go? Thank you. ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev

Ok, I'm really hosed. A reboot didn't fix the problem. There must be a database problem somewhere. [RDD] Dropbox Problem
I have a dropbox problem that I cannot figure out how to resolve. Dropboxes were working fine. I thought I'd try using the metadata so I set a single dropbox's metadata to "%a_%t_%y.". I then uploading a file into that dropbox's folder. What I got was an "Invalid URL, skipping" error in the dropbox log. I went and deleted the metadata and tried again. Same error. Now all of the dropboxes are reporting that error. [RDD] Timed Events and Post-Imported Carts
I am using "Post-Imported Carts" to add voice tracks to the log. If I have "Use hard start time" selected, it sets the imported cart and the voice track as timed events essentially dropping the imported cart and keeping the voice track if there isn't enough room for the imported cart. Should a post-imported cart also be set as timed or should only the imported cart (Select from: Music) be timed and the post-imported cart should just play next? I'm also wondering what the "Len:" option does on Pre and Post imported carts. -- Patrick patr...@scnv.net ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev

[RDD] Problem with log chain
I'm having an intermittent problem with chaining to the next day's log. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Last night it just started the February 19 log over again. I think this may have something to do with a timed event at the beginning of the log happening before the log clears and hits the chain. My first question, is it possible to make the automatic log chain a timed event so it dumps everything out at midnight? Here's what my /var/log/messages looks like from last night: Feb 19 23:58:53 rdhost caed: Play - 1 Feb 19 23:58:53 rdhost rdairplay: started audio cart: Line: 818 Cart: 11261 Cut: 1 Pos: 0 Card: 0 Stream: 0 Port: 0 Feb 19 23:58:53 rdhost caed: Play - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 22 Length: 223874 Speed: 10 Pitch: 0 Feb 19 23:58:54 rdhost rdairplay: finished event: Line: 817 Cart: 11187 Cut: 1 Card: 0 Stream: 1 Port: 1 Feb 19 23:58:54 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 21 Feb 19 23:58:54 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 21 Feb 19 23:58:54 rdhost caed: UnloadPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 21 Feb 20 00:02:36 rdhost caed: LoadPlayback Card: 0 Stream: 1 Name: /var/snd/011232_001.wav Handle: 23 Feb 20 00:02:36 rdhost rdairplay: started audio cart: Line: 819 Cart: 11232 Cut: 1 Pos: 0 Card: 0 Stream: 1 Port: 1 Feb 20 00:02:36 rdhost caed: PlaybackPosition - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Pos: 168 Handle: 23 Feb 20 00:02:36 rdhost caed: Play - 1 Feb 20 00:02:36 rdhost caed: Play - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 23 Length: 227210 Speed: 10 Pitch: 0 Feb 20 00:02:37 rdhost rdairplay: finished event: Line: 818 Cart: 11261 Cut: 1 Card: 0 Stream: 0 Port: 0 Feb 20 00:02:37 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 22 Feb 20 00:02:37 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 22 Feb 20 00:02:37 rdhost caed: UnloadPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 22 Feb 20 00:06:15 rdhost caed: LoadPlayback Card: 0 Stream: 0 Name: /var/snd/060101_002.wav Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:15 rdhost caed: PlaybackPosition - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Pos: 120 Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:15 rdhost caed: Play - 1 Feb 20 00:06:15 rdhost rdairplay: started audio cart: Line: 2 Cart: 60101 Cut: 2 Pos: 0 Card: 0 Stream: 0 Port: 0 Feb 20 00:06:15 rdhost caed: Play - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 24 Length: 4344 Speed: 10 Pitch: 0 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: LoadPlayback Card: 0 Stream: 2 Name: /var/snd/010583_001.wav Handle: 25 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost rdairplay: started audio cart: Line: 3 Cart: 10583 Cut: 1 Pos: 0 Card: 0 Stream: 2 Port: 1 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: PlaybackPosition - Card: 0 Stream: 2 Pos: 2496 Handle: 25 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: Play - 1 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost rdairplay: finished event: Line: 2 Cart: 60101 Cut: 2 Card: 0 Stream: 0 Port: 0 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: Play - Card: 0 Stream: 2 Handle: 25 Length: 193994 Speed: 10 Pitch: 0 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:19 rdhost caed: UnloadPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 0 Handle: 24 Feb 20 00:06:23 rdhost rdairplay: finished event: Line: 819 Cart: 11232 Cut: 1 Card: 0 Stream: 1 Port: 1 Feb 20 00:06:23 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 23 Feb 20 00:06:23 rdhost caed: StopPlayback - Card: 0 Stream: 1 Handle: 23 — Patrick patr...@scnv.net ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
[RDD] Remote Voice Tracking
I've been working on remote voice tracking and have something that sort of works, but have run into a problem I wasn't expecting. When I started out I thought the problem was going to be dealing with massive .WAV files. This was solved by keeping a local copy of /var/snd on the remote computer and using rsync to keep /var/snd in sync with the host (new songs are downloaded from the host and voice track carts are uploaded to the host). What I wasn't anticipating was MySQL connectivity being an issue. I loaded a voice track, just clicked "start", "record", "start", "save" and that generated 9 pages of SQL queries. For example, getting 15 fields from CUTS is 15 queries, not just a single query. Does anyone see any unintended consequences of optimizing the SQL queries for the voice tracking module and possibly pre-loading some of the information rather than doing it in realtime while playing cuts and recording? Other than the annoying pauses caused by these queries, the remote voice tracking works quite well using rsync for all of the heavy lifting. I'm sure smarter heads have already looked at this so I'm reaching out to the list. — Patrick patr...@scnv.net ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev

[RDD] Best way to keep music logs on time
Hello! I'm wondering what would be the best method for setting up logs so that the music would stay roughly on time... especially if a bad estimate of music length is given in the clocks (I have some tracks that are up to 5X+ the length of most others). Would there be a way to accomplish this? And if so, how would it be? [RDD] rmlsend not sending commands to rdairplay
Greetings all! I am running rivendell 2.5.1 on Ubuntu Studio 12.04 with the JACK Audio connection kit on 3 ports connected to JACK Mixer and being streamed from JACK mixer out to a darkice stream. All audio works, database is fine, but the issue is that when trying to execute rmlsend commands triggered by php scripts via. the RN command in macros, rmlsend doesn't work; rdairplay doesn't change logs as appropriate. Yes, I do have php client installed. /media/snd is chmod 0777 and owned by rivendell:rivendell. Those users are specified in /etc/rd.conf. There is a symlink to link /var/snd to /media/snd since it's its own partition. Rivendell and rduser users are part of rduser and rivendell groups, and have access to audio. So does my own username have access to audio. Hosts file correctly points to my computer name on 127.0.1.1 and localhost on 127.0.0.1. Also, the rivendell system is set on 127.0.0.1. I tried 127.0.1.1 too and it didn't work. This used to work fine until I had to re-install my operating system due to a hard drive corruption. Now I cannot get rmlsend to work. Re: [RDD] RDairplay Stops
...actually I think he upgraded to 12.04 Ubuntu. But same principle. Kill and keep off Pulseaudio! It is Rivendell's worst enemy. I happen to be one of the lucky ones who have Pulseaudio and Rivendell working and not conflicting thanks to JACK and JACK Mixer, as well as a custom asound.conf. Anyway, check to make sure that there isn't a RAM problem as said before. Also check your hard drive's read access. Sometimes if my hard drive stops reading for whatever reason, it crashes Rivendell or Rivendell will be up but not playing anything. I have frequent crashes of RDAirplay myself, most likely caused by macros. Thus I created a PHP file that executes every minute via. Cron Job that does a pgrep of rdairplay... and if rdairplay isn't running, the PHP will open up rdairplay (then waits until it loads and it gets a process ID when pgrepping) and then uses rmlsend to trigger a recovery log to make rdairplay playing again. This may not work for you (using a recovery log) if you use Rivendell in its intended way. I don't. My Rivendell is based off of logs (but not pre-generated or temporary logs. These are permanent) that are triggered by either RDCatch or a PHP script firing rmlsend (and logs inside Rivendell contain macros to fire off php scripts). Hope this helps for you. If you are interested in the PHP RDAirplay auto-recovery code, I can send it to you in this mailing list. It isn't that long. Simply copy and then paste into Gedit or something, save as a php file, then set up a cron to run this script by php /path/to/php/file.php. Re: [RDD] Ogg/vorbis truncated in import ?
I was just now having this problem on XUbuntu 12.04 (but it was with the repositories) with the web uploader. It imports a couple seconds of the ogg and nothing else, even though Rivendell logged the full length of the ogg instead of the length that was imported. My suggestion is to use FFMPEG (in Ubuntu, there's a program called WinFF). Convert all ogg files into wav... and then I don't know if after doing that you can convert to flac or mp3 without errors... I'll have to try. If conversion doesn't work (you get errors), then one tedious method you could try is Audacity... import each file one at a time and export it in a different format. When I've had broken audio files and such, Audacity almost always came in handy. I hate to sound rude but please stop spamming the mailing list by repeatedly posting in short periods of time. It is annoying and an inconvenience. The Rivendell system is open source so support is offered as a volunteer basis (in other words people don't have to help you and if they do they don't have to as quick as you want). [RDD] Mp2 audio files do not pause properly. Workaround?
Hello. I am in a set up requiring I have some sort of compressed audio. I use mp2... saved as wav. Problem is though even if I have sound panel buttons set to allow for pause, the audio itself starts over when I resume the button. Say if a button has 30 second audio clip. I pause it at 3 seconds left. I click the button to resume. It appears as though it plays from where it left off... but it instead plays the beginning of the audio file... and only for the 3 remaining seconds. It should not start from the beginning of the audio track... it should play the remaining 3 seconds of it. It worked fine as regular wav but I have to have compressed audio on my set up... bandwidth won't permit wav uncompressed. Suggestions? Workarounds? Re: [RDD] How to use dynamic IP address in Rivendell Hosts?
I am moving to a college campus so in no way can I host Rivendell on my campus computer, which was my original intention. Their policies forbid that. So the setup is like this: Computer #1 located off-campus with a dynamic IP registered as wrrj.org(and updated with an update client): This is the server. It hosts the Rivendell database and music library. It also runs rdairplay most of the time. It send the audio from rivendell to an internet stream via. JACK and darkice. Computer #2 located on the college campus has a dynamic IP and is registered with the domain wright.edu. This is a client computer which I will use to access the rivendell server to manipulate the music library and to control rdairplay for live shows (by using rmlsend to stop rdairplay on the server and then using rdairplay on the client computer. This set up is actually interesting because even though the two rdairplays do not match each other with logs, whatever I play on the client rdairplay also plays on the server rdairplay... audio only that is so I can't control the logs on the server rdairplay.) The music library on the server computer has an nfs filesystem which will allow the client computer to mount it on the client computer to manipulate. The server computer does not have a sound card, neither does my streaming provider support more than one source at the same time... therefore when I do live shows I will have two skype accounts, and the client and server will be in a call with each other, and the audio on the server skype will go through the internet stream... and the audio from Rivendell (playing live) on the server will go through skype to the client computer. If you're referring to latency caused by live audio going from the client to the rivendell server, that will not be an issue for I'll be using Skype for live shows. In addition to the dynamic addressing issue already referenced, using 'best effort' public Internet connectivity between RD hosts will be likely to cause you problems due to dropped UDP packets. If provisioning a business-class network is not an option, then your best bet may be to employ a TCP-based tunnel between the two systems across the unreliable network. This will make overall latency somewhat worse, but will at least solve the dynamic addressing and dropped packet problems. Cheers! |-| | Frederick F.
