Re: [sdre-l]: New song on Fire Theft

I just would like to say that it's fuckin great to have the old basslines
back.

i couldn't agree more. nothing against jeff palmer, joe skyward, or jeremy
himself, but nate's just fit the music so damn well. it's also really nice
to see that grohl hasn't totally sucked the creative life out of him.

true about appleseed cast at the beginningbut if you listen to them

even better is the appleseed cast. they were originally called, "december's tragic drive." they even played gigs all dressed up in suits like sunny day did for the diary-era promo photo. hard to be more of a sdre tribute band than that.

Re: [sdre-l]: sdre split

2001-06-14 Thread john d west

hey, anyone here about this?
check out rollingstone.com

am i missing something here? or am i just supposed to be finding the article
about SDRE breaking up? yeah, that was posted on this list sometime last
week, and the site a day or two before that. though i will give TRS credit
for at least having facts straight in the article, which isn't always a
given. =P
i guess now's as good a time as any to put my .02 in about the break-up, not
that anyone really needs to hear it...
personally, i'm in support of what they did. don't get me wrong, i love
SDRE, including their newer stuff. however, i'd much rather have them split
up now than wind up hating each other personally, which is what it sounds
like may have occured had they forced themselves into continuing work on
something they saw as somewhat of an impossible mission. at least this
leaves it open for future collaborations down the road. i will also express
my gratitude to the members of the band for the wonderful music and, in my
opinion, fantastic live shows they have provided myself and many others with
over the years. i never got to see SDRE live the first time around, but i
made sure not to make the same mistake this time. people would always ask me
why i saw SDRE every single time i possibly could. don't you get sick of
them? they's ask. and no, i never did. i've had too much experience with
bands breaking up before i get to see them, that i was going to do
everything in my power to see SDRE live as much as i could, just in case
something like this happened. and it was worth every penny i ever spent. i
wish Dan, Will, and Jeremy the best in whatever they do from hear, and am
anxious to hear anything new they have coming out, whether it be solo
records (which Jeremy does owe sub-pop as jeff stated), new groups,
whatever. and maybe someday in the future, things will get resolved to the
point that they can once again create music together in an environment they
don't consider stifling. if not, i hope we all can do what i plan to
do...and that's enjoy the wonderful music they've provided to this point,
and continue to turn to their music as we have for whatever powerful
emotions it gives us. i just hope everyone else out there got to see them
perform, as it is an experience i wouldn't trade for the world. sorry if i
rambled incoherently too much. i've had way too much time to think. john

[sdre-l]: an appearance by mr. mendel

2001-05-14 Thread john d west

hey everyone,

this isn't the most sdre related post in the world, but i thought i'd send
it anyways...
i picked up the new album by the band Juno the other day, and since their
bassist left the band last year, they had a couple people fill in for the
album. one of them is former sdre 4-stringer nate mendel. (the other for
those curious is nick harmer from death cab for cutie). anyways, if you miss
hearing nate doing cool basslines, i highly recommend picking up the cd.
sounds like he got a lot more creative on this than he typically does with
the foo fighters (and no, that's not a knock on the foos...juno's music just
allows more for it). actually, pick up the album just because Juno is an
amazing band. for those interested, you can get the cd at insound by
following this link:
http://www.insound.com/artistmain.cfm?arefer=P_ID=P%20%20%20310757

if for some reason that didn't work, go to juno's homepage here:
http://bosski.com/juno/index.html

has a link to the insound thing as well as a downloadable mp3 from the new
record (nick plays bass on it). and in case you were wondering, no, i'm not
in the band...i don't really know anyone in the band...i just happen to
think they're amazing and wanted to share with the rest of ya. hope i didn't
waste anyone's time.

this is partly true yeah.but i also think will leaving the foos had a
LOT to do with dave re-recording his drum parts for "colour and the shape"
without consulting him about it first, simply because the parts weren't up
to dave's "standards". pretty much everything i've read, including an
interview done awhile back with will, says as much. and yes, the cps did
have something to do with it as well. i don't know mr. grohl personally so
can't really speak on whether or not he's an asshole, but i can sure say
that if someone in my band decided to just record over my bass lines and
re-record them without saying anything to me, i'd probably be pissed off and

Re: [sdre-l]: ol' whats-his-face

2000-10-06 Thread john d west

so i bought this john vanderslice cd called Mass Suicide Occult Figurines,
and there is a track called Interlude. guess who plays bass on it?

jeff palmer.

thought that was kind of cool.

on the pavement mailing list, i also highly recommended the john
vanderslice album. not sure if i should do so here. kinda poppy, lots
of piano, singer sounds british but i dont think he is (hey, maybe sdre
fans WOULD dig it!). anyway, JV has his own website,
www.johnvanderslice.com (...i think, but it could just be
www.vanderslice.com,) that has all of the tracks available for complete
download, so you're welcome to try before you buy.

well whether people on the list would like that or not, it's sdre related by
some six degrees kinda thing i'm sure. john vanderslice is/was the singer
for a band called MK Ultra, which opened some shows for sunny day real
estate back during winter of 1999. mk ultra is alright, not exactly my fave,
but they're pretty solid. better live than on cd in my opinion. and as far
as i know, john vanderslice is, like the rest of the band, from somewhere in
california (i THINK, don't quote me on that, cuz i'm just goin from memory
here).
as for the whole religious thing, i agree with the people who have said that
it may or may not be religious. music is great because of it's capacity to
mean different things to different people. i'm somewhat of a songwriter (not
a great one or anything, mind you), and i've had people read my lyrics and
say "hey, that totally relates to me in such and such a way!" and it was
something that didn't even cross my mind when i wrote the song. so yeah, i
think people can find different meanings in songs based on their own life. i
know this list is all about discussion of all things sdre, but this
discussion is pretty much not gonna go anywhere past that i don't think,
because truthfully, there IS no right answer. it's up for everyone to decide
for themselves.
take care peoples. =)

AHEM.

No specific offense to you intended, but I'm tired of receiving emails with

So, for the 100 billionth time.

SDRE are skipping EVERY city they played during the Summer tour. The goal
here is to hit markets that haven't been hit already.

the reason i posted that is because dan speCIFically said when i saw em in
vancouver this summer that they'd be playing in vancouver again on the next
tour. actually said they might kick off the tour in vancouver. and they
ALways play seattle when they tour.
besides, this is kind of a different tour than normal. so i figured no
matter what cities they'd play before, they'd try to hit as many as possible
for this sort of thing. but who knows

ummm.i caught them twice on the last tour (seattle vancouver), and not

[sdre-l]: various

2000-06-22 Thread john d west

hey listers,

just a few things to mention, respond to, etc
went to the show last night in seattle, and i thought they did a pretty
solid job. i could tell they were a bit rusty at times, as they just didn't
seem quite as "on" as i'd seen them in the past.
the touring bass player...someone said they didn't do justice to the old
lines. sounded to me pretty much like he played exactly what was on the
records. which is good and bad i think. but whatever.
"in circles" just didn't sound right in standard tuning. especially the bass
part on the beginning and between parts. they had like 15 guitars sitting
next to the stage. maybe they just forgot to switch or something, but they
should definitely do that from now on.
as for will's drumming on "8", i gotta respectfully disagree with the person
who said will went even crazier than he did on the album. i was standing
there basically waiting for him to do fills, watching him, expecting the
cool rolls he does during the choruses and the "sweet clover" parts, but he
never did them. probably my biggest reason for liking that song is the way
the drums and bass go together on parts like that, and that was just totally
missing for me at the show. i still dug hearing the song live for the first
time, but it was just missing something ya know?
oh yeah, and whoever was doing soundchecks for them.for crying out loud,
sound check dan's microphone before the show! i couldn't hear a word he
sang. mind you he only sang on two of the songs, but still! "in circles" and
"8" suffered greatly because of not being able to hear his vocals, in my
opinion anyways.
anyways, that's about it for me. my head is dizzy right now for no apparent
reason so i should go lie down. take care everyone.

john

p.s.- for the guy who asked, TSMAP stands for "thief steal me a peach", an
early SDRE 7" record.

p.p.s.- my roommate wrote an article about the show for the Western Front
(western washington's newspaper), so anyone who lives up here in b'ham check
that out. and if anyone wants to see a copy let me know and i can send it
either personally or to the list, whatever. =)

[sdre-l]: an idea

2000-03-02 Thread john d west

i've been thinking since reading all the posts about the new song, "the
ocean", and i've come to a realisation. everyone i've seen has made
comparisons, favorable or otherwise, to other sdre stuff. i know it's the
obvious thing to do of course. but maybe we should all try listening to it
as it's own thing, without saying "oh it sounds more like this album or that
album or this song" or whatever. i doubt seriously that sdre went into the
songwriting and recording process thinking "hey, let's make this song sound
more like diary/lp" or "let's make this sound more like hiftbso". i think
the song should be judged on its own merit as opposed to comparing it to
what sdre has already done. it isn't very fair to the band to hold it up
against what they've done before for comparison. "the ocean" is sdre now,
not when they did any of the other records. so it just kind of seems to me
that it should be looked at that way, as something completely different from
anything else, even if it is by the same band who did the other stuff. know
what i mean?
anyways, just thought i'd share my opinions on the matter since other people
have. thanx for reading. =)

Everyone here is wondering what the shark's own private fuck is about.
I know there was a rumour going that the song was about Nate, the old
bassplayer.
But I think that's a bit fabricated. But, yes, I could be true...

the jury's still out on this one i think, but i took a real good listen to
the words the other day when i was listening to the album, and for the first
time i really really thought about it, and if it might be about Nate.
listening to the words, it struck me how similar the words are to what i've
read about how jeremy and dan feel about the nate situation. pretty crazy

somebody get me in touch with the band. i'll play bass for em! =)
if i thought i actually had a shot, this would be a serious post. i actually
have figured out by ear a good number of their songs, and could probably do
a pretty good job. but anyways, on with my real life.

sleeplessly dreaming,
john

p.s.- speaking of which, i still have some SDRE stuff tabbed out for
bassso if anyone's looking for bass tabs for them, e-mail me and let me
know.

[sdre-l]: no merch in canada

1999-08-22 Thread john d west

hey listers,

came across a bit of interesting info a little while ago. i don't remember
if it was on this list or another, or just people i was talking to, but i
remember talking to people wondering why SDRE didn't have any merchandise
(shirts, CDs, etc.) available at the show they played in Vancouver last may.
well, i think i might have come across the reason. this comes from the Deep
Elm website's FAQ section...

"In addition to vehicle searches, the Canadian government sees fit to charge
an indie rock band about $400 in duties and taxes to cross the border. The
only way to get around this is to bring no merchandise (and therefore lose
money at shows) or lie to the authorities."

so you could see why SDRE wouldn't want to be selling stuff up there. would
most likely lose money on the deal. so just keep that in mind if you go see
bands in canada, and are upset at the fact that they aren't selling any
stuff at shows.
take care. =)

brian brings up a good point. i will admit that i myself have been guilty of
talkin off topic stuff on this list in the past, so i'm not trying to play
holier-than-thou here or anything. on this subject, a pretty good place to
find mailing lists about different bands is at OneList. i haven't looked
through it all, but if you go to www.OneList.com, they have a long list of
"communities", which are e-mail lists, that you can join. so for other
bands, i recommend maybe goin to check that out. okay, enough of my PSA work

you can get mp3s of the original versions of song #8 and song #9 from
http://karl23.ml.org in the rare tracks section. these are from before
jeremy joined the band and dan sings lead vocals.

it could just be my meds screwing with my brain, but doesn't jeremy sing
lead vox on these songs? the versions i've heard (from TSMAP) have jeremy
singing them. are there versions out there i'm unaware of?

[sdre-l]: POLL results

1999-07-06 Thread john d west

Hey listers.

got the results all tallied and tabulated n stuff from the last poll. the
request was to list your top five SDRE songs you'd like to see them play
live that they haven't on the recent tours. a total of 20 songs were
included on ballots. the only song i know of that wasn't requested at least
once was "9". but anyways, here are the full results. i did it on a 5 points
for first, 4 for second, etc. points system. here ya go:

grendel (42)
theo b (41)
red elephant (38)
48 (35)
sometimes (30)
spade and parade (26)
shadows (24)
friday (21)
8 (20)
iscarabaid (20)
seven (19)
bucket of chicken (18)
5/4 (17)
two promises (15)
47 (9)
round (8)
pheurton skeurto (7)
the onlies (5)
flatland spider (2)
tsopf (1)

i sent the results to mr. skyward earlier, so maybe the guys will take a
look at the list and consider it when they decide what songs they play on
future tours. i know joe says on the SDRE site that he really would love to
play "theo b" live, so there's one strong possibility there. =)
anyways, as far as future polls go, i've decided to hold off until
september, cuz i seem to be getting less input than usual since it's summer.
so i'll be back with some more fascinating (??) polls at that time. i'll
still be around on the list reading and very occasionally responding to
stuff of course.
take care all. =)

greetings, my excellent friends.

well, i just wanted to remind all of you who haven't already to send me your
input on my latest poll. if any of ya missed it or need a reminder, the poll
is to list, in order, the top 5 songs you would like to see SDRE learn for
the next tour. (that's stating it differently than i did last time, but it's
clearer this way i think). so yeah, send that stuff in. i haven't gotten as
big a response as i've gotten in the past. that could be cuz of it bein

not sure exactly when though, but i'm pretty sure it's gonna be this

[sdre-l]: POLL: first song results new poll

1999-05-31 Thread john d west

hey listers.

the results are in from the last poll, which asked the question "what was
the first SDRE song you heard knowing it was them?" i got a total of 30
responses including my own, and here are the results:

seven-12
in circles-5
8-3
friday-2
pillars-2

the blankets were the stairs, two promises, j'nuh, theo b, shadows, and
roses in water each received 1.

so there ya go. i figured "seven" would win out, but it didn't by as huge a
margin as i might have thought. thanx for the responses everyone. =)
so now, onto the new poll. this one goes out to all of you that have had the
wonderful experience of seeing the band live. and the question is:

what are your three favourite live SDRE songs?

this of course can be (and in many cases, including mine, will be) different
from your favourite three SDRE songs. this asks for the SDRE songs you most
enjoy hearing live. and as hard as this will be to do, PLEASE put them in
order 1-2-3. i will have some trouble with that myself, but the only way i
can do the poll right is if it goes this way. thanx. =)
the poll will run for the usual two weeks, and i'll look to have results out
on the 14th of june.
take care everyone. =)

[sdre-l]: vancouver n' stuff

1999-05-30 Thread john d west

hey everyone. =)

well, i don't have a ton of time right now, but i just thought i'd let all
you setlist fans know what SDRE played up in vancouver. same stuff as usual,
but here it is anyways

pillars
guitar and video games
the blankets were the stairs
100 million
every shining time you arrive
song about an angel
the prophet
how it feels to be something on
rodeo jones
j'nuh

-enc-
in circles (which aaron the guitar guy accidentally gave dan the
wrong guitar on at first so he was off keyd'oh!)
roses in water
days were golden

so yeah. the show was very cool, probably my fave of this grouping so far,
probably because it was more of an intimate setting as opposed to the huge
ballrooms. can't wait to see em again tonight at the break room.
and another cool part of the whole vancouver deal was meeting fellow lister
Chrystal, who is a very cool gal if i may say so. (my check's in the mail
right? =P just kidding).
so anyways, i'm gonna go eat now. have a great holiday weekend everyone, and
i'll be back later most likely with a report of the Seattle show, unless i
crash first. i will also have a log of total miles i've driven to get to all
these shows and back. it's pretty crazy. take care everyone. =)

[sdre-l]: portland, of course! =)

1999-05-28 Thread john d west

heyas. =)

yeah, so what jane beat me home? could it be partly cuz she LIVES in
portland, and i had to drive to tacoma? h =P and hey, i should get
some kudos for doing a report at 4 am. (by the way, we left before they came
out).
so yeah, the show rocked. right up front for a change. i usually tend to
hang out closer to the back, but i just wanted to see what it was like from
up there. same openers as the eugene show. Juno just rocks. i liked em even
better this time. (OTS, they have a show in Seattle on the 6th of June with
some other bands, a benefit show of some sort...i don't remember where, but
their singer said it's advertised in the rocket, and they have a website you
can get to by going to the UBL and typing in Juno in the search field. i
recommend it highly.). anyways, back to SDRE.
played a more standard style set this time. that being...

in circles
pillars
guitar and video games
the blankets were the stairs
100 million
song about an angel*
every shining time you arrive*
the prophet
how it feels to be something on
roses in water
j'nuh

-encore-
rodeo jones
days were golden

*-on the setlist, they had these songs in reverse order. i think they played
"angel" first because something was wrong with joe's standard tuning bass.
he knocked it over during "blankets", and it wasn't in it's stand during
"angel"

so yeah. went back to playing in circles first, which i thought was cool. i
like it both ways, so it's all good with me. as Jane already aluded (sp?)
to, i met her and saw Agnes again at the show. it was a fun time. two down,
two to go (with a big =P to Agnesgawd i'm meanheh heh).
what else can i say about the showmy mind is empty right now cuz i'm so
freakin tired i think. oh yeahthere was this one guy who between every
single song kept yelling for them to play "what it's like", and one time
said "what it's like to be something on". after that one, dan said "you've
ALmost got it!" which got a laugh from the crowd. i found it humourous. i
mean, it's one thing to yell requests, even if they always stick to the
setlist, but at least get the freakin song title right, eh? *laughs*
okay, i'm gonna check out the rest of my mail then go to bed. hope you all
have great fridays. take care. =)

[sdre-l]: You Jean

1999-05-27 Thread john d west

hey everyone!

well, after a lovely four hour drive (who, me speed? nhhh), i just
got home from the eugene show. it was a pretty incredible show i must say. i
just wish there were some people there. it was a HUGE room, and a VERY small
crowd. especially for the opening bands Juno and Lucky Me, both of whom are
seattle bands and both of whom were pretty darn cool.
anyways, this is an SDRE list, so i will talk about them. i'll start off
with the set list (note a few changes):

pillars
guitar and video games
the blankets were the stairs
100 million
every shining time you arrive
song about an angel
the prophet
roses in water
j'nuh
in circles
days were golden

(now when they started playing days, i was surprised, cuz it was a short
set. then, they all walked off in typical fashion, but the house lights
stayed off. so the crowd started cheering for an encore. then the house
lights came on, and everyone was kinda confused for a minute. but then
people started clapping again. then, joe stuck his head out and everyone
started REALLY clapping and cheering. so they came out for an encore, which
dan said they weren't planning on doing, but we made such great noise that
they did it anyway.i gotta say, for so few people, we sure made a lot of
noise.)

encore:
how it feels to be something on
rodeo jones

so basically, it was the same songs as usual, just in a different, crazy
order. it was the first time i had ever seen them end on something other
than days were golden. kinda liked this set order though. will be
interesting to see what they do in the next few shows.
well, as much as i would love to write more at this point, i am pretty dead
tired, and i gotta get up at some halfway decent time today so i can get up
and drive back down to the Portland show (which i know for a fact at least
Juno will be playing at as well, cuz i talked to their singer after the
whole thing was over). so it should be another cool show. for those of you
going to the show, look for me if ya want. i'll be wearing a black Who's
Your Daddy? (a Tacoma band) t-shirt, and it has a big question mark on it.
so if ya see me, be sure to say hi and stuff.
take care everyone. =)

[sdre-l]: upcoming show info

1999-05-05 Thread john d west

Hola list-type people. =)

info about upcoming shows:

EUGENE:
well, i got info from a friend today about the SDRE show in Eugene, OR, on
the 26th of May. they are playing at the UofO in the EMU ballroom, which
from what i can tell is basically the same type of deal as the HUB ballroom
where they played on the 26th of April. tickets will be 18 bucks to the
general public. they are not yet on sale, and my friend forgot to ask when
they will be, but she said she'd call em back and let me know. the number
again for the EMU ticket office is (541) 346-4363.

PORTLAND:
i know this has been talked about many times on here, but i figured since i
was doing this, i might as well include it. the show is on May 27th at The
Crystal Ballroom. tickets are $15.45 (including service charge), and can be
purchased online at: http://www.mcmenamins.com/Crystal/crysched.html
there is a section on that page that allows you to purchase tickets online.
go there and find the sunny day show, and get your tix there.

VANCOUVER:
all i know about this one is that it's at the place mentioned on the
website, and it's on the 29th. the number to call for TicketMaster in
Vancouver is (604) 280-. the place is a bar type place, but keep in mind
(as i forgot until i thought about it) that since it's in canada, this means
19 and up instead of 21 and up. not sure if anyone on the list is planning
to head up there besides me, but just thought i'd let ya all know.

SEATTLE:
actually, i know zero about this except for the fact that it's at the
Breakroom, which is 21+, on the 30th. if anyone knows the number for the
Breakroom or where to get tickets (or even where the place IS), might wanna
post that info to the list, or if not, at least hook ME up with it. =)

hope this helps out some of you who are interested in one or more of these
shows. i'll be at all of em myself, so i'll see some of you there. take
care. =)

[sdre-l]: POLL: location/time listening

1999-04-28 Thread john d west

hey everybody! =)

well, i got a poll idea from someone finally, so i figured i'd put it
into action. kinda goes along with my last poll actually. what i'm
asking now is, i'd like the people who sent me responses to my "where
are ya from?" survey, to now let me know about when they started
listening to and/or first heard SDRE. people who didn't answer my
last survey can still participate in this one, but along with the
above info, i also need to know where you're from since i didn't get
it in the last survey.
now just to let everyone know, this is NOT designed to separate the
people who've been fans for years from those who have been fans only
for a few months. cuz if that were the case, i'd be in the latter
category, cuz i've only seriously listened to them since last
september after their Bumbershoot show, which blew me away and got me
hooked and i haven't looked back.
what this IS designed to do is try to get some sort of an idea of
when SDRE hit various locations in the world. my predictions, of
course, are that people on the west coast will, in general, have
earlier dates compared to east coast and foreign listers. but we'll
just have to see.
and one more thingif you sent me your location AFTER i posted the
results of my last survey, i didn't keep em so i need em again if you
wanna take part in this one.
so to make a long story short
1) if you took part in my last poll, please send the approximate time
you started listening to and/or first heard SDRE
2) if you did NOT take part in my last poll, please send the info in
number (1) along with your location
thanx to Amy for sending this idea in. i hope it pans out well. i
haven't quite decided yet how i'm gonna do the results, but i've got
an idea. so please send in your responses between now andoh,
let's say may 16th, which is two weeks from this sunday. i will have
the results up as soon after that as i can.

[sdre-l]: UW show-no new stuff

1999-04-27 Thread john d west

hey all

well, just got back from the UW show, and it was very awesome, as
sunny day always is. they didn't play anything new, basically the
same stuff they usually play. the set list:

pillars
guitar and video games
the blankets were the stairs
100 million
every shining time you arrive
song about an angel
the prophet
how it feels to be something on
waffle
j'nuh

encore:
in circles
roses in water
days were golden

so there ya have it. the only down point of their set was during the
beginning, they had feedback problems with jeremy's mic. but after
they fixed that, all was good.
the opening bands were both pretty cool too. stella maris was REAL
chill, nothing hard or heavy at all. but that's cool with me, i'm
into that sorta stuff. and death cab for cutie was more on the faster
and somewhat heavier side. the singer got into it a little with some
fan up near the front who was apparently givin him a hard time. it
was pretty funny. anyways, i don't have much else to say, mainly cuz
i'm about dead tired right now. hope all the rest of you who went had
a great time like i did. take care. =)

[sdre-l]: geography finals

1999-04-12 Thread john d west

Hey everyone!

well, i just got done compiling the results to the geography poll i
did. there were 52 entries (including myself) in this one, which is
up from my last one, so that's cool. i appreciate everyone who took
the time to take part in this. =)
here are the results:

new york city-2
yonkers-1
syracuse-1

Canada-1
Japan-1

well, i gotta say, i was a bit surprised with the lack of northwest
representation, especially washington. (i know for a fact there are
more WA residents on this list, but i only put people in the poll who
responded directly to it). i can also say if this poll is at all
representative of SDRE's fan base around the country, they definitely
need to be gettin out to new york one of these days.
now that the poll is done, i had something else to bring up. i was
running around the web the other day in search of more sunny day tabs
to add to my collection, and i came across a page of someone on this
list who had compiled a page of lister bios for the sdre-l. i thought
that was pretty cool and am wondering if that person is still keeping
up with that. i can't for the life of me remember who's page it was,
though i told myself i would. =P so if that person could let me know
about that, it would be cool.
anyways, hope you all enjoyed the poll. i'll probably be back with
something else in the near future, so be on the look out. thanx
everyone. take care. =)

[sdre-l]: i can't give you a TAB unless you ORder somethin'.....

1999-04-08 Thread john d west

Hey everyone!

well, i got a couple things in this one. first off, when i first
joined this list a few months ago, i was making sdre bass tabs and
sending them out to a few people. i haven't been able to do that much
lately, but i just got one done for "days were golden" and am going
to be doing at least a couple more in the near future. just to let
those of you who i was sending them to (or would be interested in
seeing them) know, i will from now on be sending all bass tabs i do
to mr. charlie wagner for his sdre tab site. so anyone can see them
there without me having to go thru the trouble of sending them to a
bunch of people thru e-mail, and the tabs get all messed up that way
anyways. so when his site is done and up, go there and you can check
out my bass tabs, as well as i'm sure many other wonderful tabs from
fellow listers. =)
and for your sdre guitar tab needs right now, i highly recommend
ansigod's unofficial sdre page. he's got some well-done guitar tabs
from the first two albums, so go check that out if ya haven't
already. (now where's my money, brian? =P)
speaking of tabs, if anyone out there knows where i could locate a
good guitar and/or bass tab for "bucket of chicken", it would be much
appreciated. thanx.
take care everyone! =)

[sdre-l]: SDRE at You Dub

1999-04-06 Thread john d west

Hey listers. =)

i know that there are a bunch others of you out there who are excited
like i am that SDRE is playing a show back in good ol' Seattle, but so
far i haven't seen item one posted on this list about where to get
tickets for it. so if any of you out there know, i am sure that no one
on this list would get too flustered if you posted said info to the
list. thanx much. =)

[sdre-l]: geography lessons

1999-04-01 Thread john d west

hey listers. =)

well, i tried doing this last night, but apparently i screwed up when
typing in the address or something cuz it never went to the list
apparently. so i'll try again.
similar to deacon's age survey, i'm curious as to where all the listers
are from. so i'm gonna ask that everyone e-mail me with their location,
city and state (or country if outside the U.S.). i'll put together some
kind of chart with all the data and post it to the list. i'll take
e-mails from now thru april 11th and post shortly after that.
hope people other than me are interested in this and will take part.
talk at ya all later. take care. =)

[sdre-l]: Tears For The King...KOTS

1999-03-18 Thread john d west

Hey everyone.

I remember seeing a little while back something about a band that Jeremy
used to be in with the guys from Poor Old Lu, i think it was called
Tears For The King or something like that. do any of you know where i
can find sound files and/or actual recordings from them, or if any
exist? if so, please let me know. i'm a big fan of both sdre and poor
old lu, and would love to hear what jeremy would sound like singing with
those guys. (other than "digging deep", which was cool, but it wasn't a
very typical poor old lu song). thanx. =)

[sdre-l]: live song about... and daze

1999-03-17 Thread john d west

Hey everyone!

A couple people asked earlier about mp3 files of "song about an angel"
and "days were golden". well, i know there is an mp3 version of an
entire sdre LA show from last november up at LALive.com. I think it's
still there anyways, i haven't checked lately. They play both those
songs during the show. Hope that helps.
Take care. =)

[sdre-l]: OOPS!!!

1999-03-17 Thread john d west

Hey all.

Well, as anyone who has checked out LA Live since i posted that info
knows, i made a mistake. The SDRE live show is not in mp3 format. It's
in like .asx or something weird like that. i used media player when i
played it, so i was thinking mp3 for some reason when i posted about it.
so i'm sorry for anyone who went there and didn't find what i talked
about because it isn't there. i'll think before i post next time. sorry
again.

[sdre-l]: more problems...

1999-03-10 Thread john d west

Hey everyone!

Well, just when i got some time on my hands, my computer is now screwed
up so i can't get online from my apartment (at my girlfriend's house
right now). So to those i owe bass tabs STILL, i am REALLY sorry, and i
SWEAR as soon as i get my comp back from being fixed, i will get those
taken care of. PROMISE! =)
And to everyone else, be good while i'm away. Not like i have anything
to do with that anyways. Take care. =)

Re: [sdre-l]: Live problems

1999-01-02 Thread john d west

yeah, i was watching the video yesterday when i got it, and i too noticed
certain places where the sync between the picture and sound was a little
off. kinda sucked to see will hit a cymbal and then a second later hear the
sound, but ah well. the video overall was still cool. wish they had left in
the talking parts between songs though, that woulda been cool. it seemed to
me that sub-pop was somewhat careless putting it together though. they had a
typo on the band name on the back cover, which is something that happens.
but then also, on the video itself, they had the wrong date for the concert,
even when they had it correct on the cover. strange.
was kinda disappointed i never got on camera. *laughs*
