I have an almost brand new VNT turbo here (in fact, other than sitting for a
long time, it may actually be brand new).

Re: SD 2.2 Long Block-Automatic Manual Transmissions Question

2011-11-10 Thread Neil Emiro
Nothing different about the engine blocks, heads, any of that. You'll need the
complete trans, torque converter, flex plate, shields and bolts. The flex
plate to crankshaft bolts are different than the bolts for a manual
transmission flywheel. Beyond that, you'll need the shifter cable, and
different brake pedal (if you want it). Also will need the transmission mount,
kickdown cable (and hardware at throttle body) and the wiring for the reverse
lights/neutral safety switch.

I'd get the trans and kickdown cable stuff from a turbo car, and everything
else from a NA L body.

It could be the SMEC, certainly. Also check the inside of the cap, and be
sure that the other plug wire contacts are poking ALL the way through the
cap, and that they are straight, not angled or bent towards the outside of

Rotor turns. Cap rotor and wires are from running car. # 3 is firing
only when it should. timing light on coil wire shows the same thing,
only lights when #3 fires, not 4 times like it should. Test light on
coil shows same thing.

1st is the rotor turning when cranking? I assume so or the hep
wouldn't
work. Is the cap intact?

Is #3 firing only when it should, or is it firing in place of 1,2,4
also.
(back to not turning rotor...)

This could happen if you put the coil wire on #3 and the #3 on the coil
post, but you can't do that with a normal 2.2 cap right?

What happens if you put the timing light on the coil wire?

Re: SD L body window parts needed

2009-04-13 Thread Neil Emiro
IIRC, doors, hoods, grilles, and fenders from early L-bodies are different
from later models. I think the switch actually happened in 1983, and not
1980. Doors and fenders are not interchangeable (easily) between the two
model year sets, except in complete sets, which is probably not worth it.

On 13 Apr 2009 at 10:26, Barry Goodall wrote:

Another possible fix might be to switch doors from a later

Barry

I've had an ongoing issue with the same thing but mine is
a little harder to fix. There's a metal plate that grabs
a hold of a runner keeping this mechanism on track. If it
loses grip it'll go up or down but nothing keeps it from
 falling forward.

I bought a used one recently to fix my window issue but
discovered something unusual. On the very early model
that I have (a 1979 Omni) the inner door assembly is
completely different than the ones used in the more more
common mid 1980's models (and it's too different to be
 adapted properly).

Now I need to ask the collective if anyone has access to
a driver side 1978 or 1979 Omni door that has a properly
functioning window mechanism. I could really use these
inner parts, unfortunately the later years from 1980 to
 1990 won't work.

I changed the HEP and that didn't do a thing. so tonight I'll put a presser

Re: SD car starts then dies?

2008-02-06 Thread Neil Emiro
You're on the right track, Roy. It will most likely be the HEP, followed by
the
fuel pump. They are supposed to hold pressure, but often do not. A third
possibility is a bad logic module. I have seen this particular failure a few
times before. I would try the HEP, first. The HEP is pretty much the ballast
resistor of this era of cars. It can fail without notice, and you are stranded
when it does. I would carry a spare in the trunk, anyway.
