Re: CSfrozen shoulder

2009-10-21 Thread Rowena
Agreed about the DMSO. It would be a more efficient and effective way
of doing what I did for frozen shoulder some 15 or 17 years ago now. I
saw a specialist and he made an appt for me to have an injection. That
I did NOT want.

I read up all I could - no internet then - about various herbs, and
mixed up some ointment with various essential oils. Aromatherapy, I
suppose. If in doubt, put a few drops in. Probably in comfrey
ointment. Maybe emu oil, too.

I put it on faithfully morning and night, and it improved. Sorry, I
forget what the ingredients were, but they must have been fairly easy to
look up.

I cancelled the appointment and went back when another appointment was
due. The specialist put me through the tests and gave me a percentage
of the improvement. He asked what I had been doing, and I told him. I
told him the ingredients, and he said that as there was more than one,
we wouldn't know what had done the trick.

I doubt whether he tried it on any of his other patients, anyway. But I
didn't need that injection any more.

The first time I experienced frozen shoulder I went to my

Have you tried supplements and or exercise for the lymph system? This
is something that a friend of mine has just had for five months, and
after all the tests, this is what they have decided it is, and not
frozen shoulder as they thought. Lots of CS for infection and
supplements like arabingalactan for the immune system. I have had a
bout of this and this is what I am doing and it seems to be working.
Often lymph disfunction is thought to be poor circulation - like hands
and feet 'going dead' while you are asleep, this is not poor
circulation but blocked lymphs. dee

I should also have mentioned DMSO in my first reply.
I have been applying DMSO to my shoulder and it helps with inflammation and
pain.
I also use Topricin with the DMSO (usually right after applying DMSO), it
helps with the inflammation and reduces itching and drying of the skin from
the DMSO.
I use the following brand of DMSO, which is on the expensive side but is a
good one to start with for a beginner (like me) because it has few of the
reported side effects:

CSfrozen shoulder treatment

2009-10-20 Thread Anomie
Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is very very effective for Frozen
shoulder! I am in the Pittsburgh PA area if I can help anyone with
it there!
This is a note that I send out in response to requests for therapists
in a persons area. VERY effective for all kinds of pain issues. It
has changed my life for the better, I used to get migraines and was
dx with Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain!

If I can answer questions, please contact me directly... I dont
always check this very very busy forum...

Sadly the training programs are few and far between, this means there
are not enough well trained therapists. You will find them listed in
the member directory that can be found at http://
www.myofascialtherapy.org/. You will see a blue box on the left side.
Hopefully you may be able to see someone close to you in that listing.

You can also email the therapists there and ask if they know of
anyone close to you if they are not close enough. There may be
someone that they know that is good, but not in our organization.
Another possibility is to send me another note and I will post your
request on our professional email group which includes some therapist
that are not on the website listing.

You may also find some help by joining the myotherapy yahoo group
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/myotherapy/On this group
there are other folks with myofascial pain and therapists that are
doing trigger point work. You can ask questions and request help.
This group is not affiliated with the NAMTPT in any way.

You can try to find a therapist at
http://www.myopainseminars.com/seminars/travell/series_grads
 http://www.bonnieprudden.com/helpline.html
http://www.nmtcenter.com/practitioner/

Our website also lists several training programs and you might try
contacting them for a lead.

I can't personally vouch for any practitioners listed in these sites
but it is a good start. Ask them about their training. I hope this
helps.

Another possibility is to come to the training programs yourself or
encourage a friend or loved one to do so. That may sound far-
reaching, but that is actually what most of us have done. So many
MTPT where having pain themselves (some debilitating) and found it so
extremely helpful that we changed our lives and went to school to
learn to help ourselves and others! (part of class is working on each
other)

You can also look for books by Claire Davies Trigger Point Therapy
Workbook and Frozen Shoulder Workbook... big help for self care.

Please let me know if I can help you further or if you are having
problems. cm...@zbzoom.net

My Husband tore , broke and sprained his shoulder a while back and part of
his treatment to prevent frozen shoulder was to use chiropractic. They kept
the bone in place while the tissues healed properly. This might be a good
idea to make sure the bones are lining up properly so your therapy will work
effectively. Also remember to take vitamin C, Serrapeptase enzyme , and
bromaline enzyme. These were recommended here and they worked fabulously.

Re: CSFrozen shoulder.

2008-09-16 Thread Rowena
For what it is worth, here is my experience.

Some years ago, near enough to twenty, I had a shoulder problem and went to
a specialist, who was going to inject it with steroids. He told me what
degree of immobility it had. I didn't fancy the treatment, so looked up my
books and concocted an ointment out of essential oils, possibly in a base of
emu oil, maybe just added to comfrey ointment. I forget. The choice was
based on the action of the oils, and there were a number of them. I was
scared enough of the needle to remember to apply the ointment morning and
night, and quite possibly in between. I cancelled my appointment, and went
for a later one; he was extremely surprised to find that the range of
movement had improved, so the jab was not necessary. I then told him I what
I had done, and that it was with that variety of oils, and he said it was a
pity there were a number, as that meant it was not possible to work out
which one had done the job. (So sad, I was a housewife and I could do the
research and fix it . . . you finish the sentence.) How much easier to
research it now with the Internet.

Anyway, a few years later I was in trouble again in my left (other)
shoulder, and went to a Chinese Traditional Medicine practitioner.
Actually, he was a professor, in his eighties but looked like early sixties,
trained in China in Western Medicine first, then later CTM. He said this
was called the fifty year shoulder (I think) because it usually happened
around the time people were fifty years old. He rubbed and manipulated very
hard on an area on the top left hand area of my chest, I think he said it
was where the nerve went through a small channel. It should be possible to
locate it on an appropriate chart. I have never had trouble with it again.

Some days after this treatment I attended my (great) masseur, and he was
immediately concerned about the bruise, and said nobody should give
treatment that bruised a patient. Well, maybe so, but Prof fixed me. I
explained what Prof had said about the nerve going through etc. and he
agreed that this was true, but still was not happy about the bruise. I
mention this in case it helps anyone name the process.

Looking at acupuncture charts, the closest I could spot a possible site for
the bruise spot was Lu 1 on the lung meridian, but it seems a bit high..
I think he was targeting an anatomical spot rather than an acupressure
point.
Despite wading through charts and photos galore I haven't been able to
identify the spot conclusively.

Re: CSFrozen shoulder.

2008-09-16 Thread Smitty
For what it is worth, here is my experience.
I went to a Chinese Traditional Medicine practitioner. . . .
. . .He rubbed and manipulated very hard on an area on
the top left hand area of my chest, I think he said it
was where the nerve went through a small channel.

I had a similar pain which started at the base of my neck
and went down into my shoulder. I had it for a long time
and told my son's friend who is a masseuse.
I explained the pain and he dug his fingers into the area
which brought tears ! He explained about the nerve and said
I could massage the area myself, and showed me how.
After a week or so, the pain went away.

Smitty,

Good for you! I am an acupuncture practitioner... what you did was
shiatsu (Japanese finger acupuncture) or amma (chinese massage).
Regardless, for soft tissue injuries, muscle and nerve pain, it can be a
godsend... and so simple! The results are not always instantaneous and
sometimes people feel worse before they feel better but almost everyone
eventually experiences relief.

   Cheers.

You are right. My son's friend practiced Shiatsu. We all were at a party
I mentioned the pain. He gave me a freebee on the spot and
showed me how I could self-treat the area.

The medicos can't make their boat payments if we treat ourselves !

Re: CSFrozen shoulder - the pressure location is . . . where exactly?

2008-09-16 Thread Rowena
You who have experienced it or practice the art - can you describe the
location better than I was able to, or give a proper name for it, or a link
to a diagram?

Is it indeed the Lu 1 site, or is there another name for the acupressure
point?

And if it is an anatomical point, what is the correct name for the nerve and
the gap or hook it passes through?

If the Lu1 is correct, here is a link to a diagram:
flickr.com/photos/vitreoushumour/2655478072/ where the point would be the
end one near the shoulder. acupuncture-point-locator.com/akubild/Lu.gif
symptoms flat respiration, shortness of breath, discomfort of the
respiratory tract, bronchitis cough, asthma, depressions, grief, worry,
sadness, desperation, hiccups, shoulder pains, night sweat, skin discomfort,
to inflated belly and limbs, feeling of sickness, nausea
specific features: alarm point, helps in congested nose, stops cough,
transforms mucus.
Other syndromes: supports and adjusts lungs and spleen-Qi, leads down
lung-Qi, canalises humidity, cools heat, keeps open the surface, decreases
pains
Position:
1 thumb-broad under collarbone, in a deepening close before arm muscle,
upwards and outside
5-10 mms moxibustion

But is this indeed the correct point?

That's the area I put pressure, behind the collar bone, and toward
the shoulder. If you feel more pain while exploring with pressure,
you have found the nerve.

Yes. If you want to spend the money or have insurance, you can go to a
sports doc, they will likely refer you for physical therapy, which
includes exercises to make the muscles move. It hurts like crazy, but
it works. They give you exercises to do at home, and IF you do them
regularly, the muscles relax. My husband went through this, and it
worked very well. That was some years ago. Now once in a great while it
will act up a tiny bit, and he starts his exercises again. He works on
a computer all day, so maybe it is related to the positions involved.

Thanks for your reply Kathryn. My frozen shoulder problem has been
caused by slipping while climbing over a wire fence on my property. I
wrenched the shoulder in the fall but thought nothing of it at the
time. Over the passed few weeks the frozen problem has set in making
it very difficult to move my arm in some directions. Fortunately out
here all medical expences due to an accident are covered by the govt.
so I'm now in the hands of a physiotherapist who is already making a
difference. You're sure right about the pain bit :-)
