once I have added custom render channels, how can I manage them? Delete,

Re: Expression For Shape Blend

2014-01-28 Thread Will Sharkey
Very cool, its a linear interpolation I'm after and this solution works
great!

Cheers.

It depends on how you want to interpolate. As the relation may not be
necessarily linear, there could be infinitely many ways in which the
 interpolation can happen.

Take a look at my drawing http://imgur.com/bM8Gx2H to see what I mean.

I suggest an fcurve into the expression will be of great use as you can
completely control the interpolation. It seems that either ICE or link with
 parameters are a better choice.

However, if you want to use expressions, it is simply a condition of
selecting one of the two equations straight line:

Here is the expression that you can use on Eyefix:
 *cond( Slider = 0.2, Slider / 0.2, ( 1 - Slider ) / 0.8 )*

This expression will properly interpolate and even extrapolate( for value
of slider outside the interval (0, 1))

Please note that the expression is in condensed form based on the values
 you provided : (0,0), (0.2, 1.0), (0, 1.0). If you change your point of
choice from 0.2 to some other value then this expression needs to be
 changed.

I have not included the method to derive this expression for the reason of
being succint but it simply is an implementation of two equations of
straight lines through two points plugged into a condition statement.

 Good luck!

 Alok.

I'd go the ice route as well, not least because you can add an fcurve
node to control the amount of influence over the 0 - 1 range, so its a link
with but without the keys or curves appearing in the character's
 dopesheet/ae.

It will work faster in ICE with the described method as you bypass the
shape manager, or the animaton mixer. And go direct to the cluster to grab
the point data as you are direclty adding the point positions. You can
also drive the point positions with a weightmap as well, multiplying the
output value by the weightmap, before setting the point positions again on
itself. And it's easy to debug than getting, as Sergio said an expression
to interpolate the weight of the shape.

 Cheers!

 2014-01-27 Will Sharkey willjshar...@gmail.com

Yeah, I would need the values interpolated. I could do it in ICE but I
thought it would be nice to keep it as a simple expression.

 Thanks for the help.

Yes you can do it with expressions.

It is a nested conditional. cond
 (slider=0,eyefix=0,cond(slider=.2,eyefix=1,cond(slider=1,eyefix=0,0))).
But I wouldn't suggest this approach. There is an easiest way to do it
 in
 ICE.

image sequence doesnt render with vray

2014-01-28 Thread Kris Rivel
Anyone know why an image sequence used as a texture doesn't seem to render
with vray? It just seems locked to one frame. But ironically...a render
region seems to work. Its like it just grabs whatever frame the scene is

clear for the next frame so it just uses the same frame again.

Yes, I mean the SI implementation. The core of VRay is quite stable. Has
to be, after all it's kind of industry standard for the 3ds max

Might be that Chaosgroup's Softimage department is a bit understaffed...

the leg_L0_0_jnt. This has a scripted op undeneath it setting a number of
things related to the leg bend, and I can only guess that the op is not
being evaluated on certain frames, causing the twisting.

My fix for now is to make it visible yet unselectable, and shrink the
shadow scale down so its not confusing to animators.

This is using gear 1.1.0, will test gear mc tomorrow and if it repros,
maybe dig out miquel's email for a bug report ;)

If it's the solver not being properly evaluated, that won't be fixed in
Miquel's version. Afaik he didn't do any change on the solvers.

That might be coming from the optimization of the solver that's trying to
be evaluated only when needed. :(
Sorry about that

Re: The Lego Movie: Behind the Scenes and How They Made the Movie

2014-01-28 Thread Ahmidou Lyazidi
Everything is CG, some people were talking about stop motion after the
first trailer release,
but they were just abused by the extraordinary work did by the team :)

The purpose of the face rig was to simplify the select move keyframe
workflow and the hierarchies to the maximum.
So instead of having a lots of control object to drive the curves we
decided to work directly with the curves (which has to be bezier ones ).
Shape animation wasn't an option either, as we needed more flexibilityity.

Actually there was 3 levels of manipulation:
1- the curve itself fot SRT
2- the soft controls basic and predefined shaping mostly driven by ICE
3 -A custom manipulation tool was built that was kind of like the tweak
tool with extra options for fast and
direct point manipulation (click drag, without selection).
But instead of moving the points, it was updating per point translation
parameters
then a custom C++ operator was reading those parameters to drive the points.
another operators was doing the curves offsetting to give thickness.

The curve had some color and other properties used by a realtime
shaderapplied on the heads.
And that's pretty much all, I hope you'll enjoy the movie!

Cheers
-A

RE: A question on FBX

Softimage does not convert to Z-Up for FBX Export.
Can go through Maya for that, or if you work with the FBX SDK, it has a
ConvertScene function that handles all these.
