Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS web interface keeps becoming unresponsive on Debian 10

I was never able to get this new version built, which I know is
definitely down to user error.

If this is newer build of Audio::Scan then does it not make sense to add
it to the nightlies since there are other people reporting the same
issue?

I downloaded the entire ZIP file and then extracted that and browsed to
the subfolder.

I don't know if I'm losing my mind, but I didn't find buildme.sh within

Am I missing something really obvious?

The nightly build you referenced hasn't helped at all, so I'm still
presently stuck with a perpetually-freezing user interface.

It would have surprised me...

to compiling Audio::Scan to replace the standard LMS one as that's not
something I've had to attempt before.

Grab a copy of
https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver-vendor/tree/public/7.9/CPAN

Then run

./buildme.sh Audio::Scan

from inside that folder. At the end of the process you should see some
information about where it put the binary file. You'll then have to copy
that file on top of the installed with LMS. The exact target folder
depends on your perl version and installation folders... would be
something like

CPAN/arch/5.xx/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/auto/Audio/Scan/Scan.so

Michael possibly won't see your edit.

Unfortunately I still don't have any good idea how to continue the
search... lemppari hasn't provided much information.

What you could try to do is re-compile Audio::Scan yourself
(https://metacpan.org/release/Audio-Scan). LMS seems to be hanging while
reading the image data from the flac files.

And don't forget to update to the latest LMS 7.9.2, as I've applied two
patches to address issues I've seen with more recent Perl versions.

Any thoughts on how to track this down then from my end if it's behaving
for you? If lemppari and I are both experiencing the same issue after

seems more likely that the change in Perl version has upset something.

The fact that it interrupts music playback makes it really annoying.

Easiest way to trigger it seems to be to hit play on the album in the

use the next button above the now playing art to skip to track 2.

I just tried an album that I knew was problematic before with the images
pulled out of the FLAC files and put in the folder instead, and that one
played fine. I also tried an album of MP3s (my library doesn't include
any MP3s) with embedded artwork and saw the same issue.

So at first glance it does appear to be related to embedded artwork.

I'll PM you a link to some files. but you can also use MP3tag to easily
embed artwork in FLAC and/or MP3 files. as well as extracting it.

Probably off target, but:

Is this the first time that Debian x86-64 has seen Audio::Scan v1.02 ?

Debian Buster is perl v5.28. Previous Debian has perl v5.24.

I don't think Audio::Scan v1.02 made it to x86-64 perl v5.24.
i386 and various arms seemed to get it, but not x86-64.

Could you please add the following log-line in Graphics.pm, then re-run

Same slowness here. I can confirm the unresponsiveness after upgrading
to Debian 10.

I've installed Debian 10 in a VM with 2MB of RAM, and it's running as
expected. I didn't have a large library though. Would you see the
slowness with only a few hundred tracks, too?

Tried a bunch of image IDs and sizes. Instant response to the browser

If you loaded one such image with slightly modified parameters (239x239

cache, would it really take that long to load? Where is the original
artwork stored? In the music files or separate as a cover.jpg or

Every image is stored in the FLAC files, and they're all pre-sized to
600x600. LMS is running off an SSD, so the database is on really fast
disk.

It's weird, but this is definitely correlated to the upgrade to Debian
10.

The log message "Resizing" is called after a call to LMS "idlestreams"
which is basically letting the routine pass controlback to LMS to
schedule pending tasks - I assume because routine expects resizing could
be time consuming and it is better to clear pending tasks. So the 30
secs delay may be due to one of these "Pending tasks".

Code:

main::idleStreams();

main::INFOLOG && $isInfo && $log->info("  Resizing: $fullpath using
spec $spec");

I agree that looks like it's a timeout value, since it's always 30
seconds almost to the millisecond.

Setting artwork.imageproxy to INFO or DEBUG didn't yield anything in the
log. I did notice what when I set artwork to INFO that there is a 30

There is a 30 secs timeout in ImageProxy.pm getImage - if you enable

I switched off the logging once I'd captured that, because I was able to
reproduce the problem immediately. It does seem to be sporadic though,
so I'll turn the logging back on and let it run for a while.

All my images are resized to 600x600 before being embedded in my FLAC
files for LMS, and this was was 287KB, so not especially big.

Lots of users use rpi with LMS no problems and especially and RPI3 is
plenty powerful for most cases. Are you doing something unusual such as
transcoding, resampling, image resizing etc.

OK but if you want to follow up it is better to start a new thread of
your own as it is difficult to follow two different problem in the same

I'm a little confused about what you are doing (i.e. no details on test)
and then editing old post does not help.

1. From original description, your problem look to be network related
and/or hardware related - this is different to OP issue and a bit of a
thread hijack. If problem is not Pi hardware then source of problem
can include cables, connected network devices (e.g. Powerline) and
possibly but unlikely PSU.
2. You have not given any details on your network setup - wired/wireless
etc. Also check network interface statistics to see if any errors,
timeouts , link resets appearing on "bad" system more than "good".
3. Difference between a Pi3 B and Pi3 B+ is 15% CPU and big change in
network interface - so dismissing the two cards as similar is not right
as problem looks network related.
4. You have swapped SD card - this may not be the best way as "history"
may be on the card going from one system to another. Not sure if
Raspbian save some config/tuning info.
5. To do like for like comparison swapping SD card is not enough you
need to swap cables and PSU and stay in same location to make sure there
is no other variable.
6. No comparison tests done playing local music to see if problem have
an internet aspect.

Michael

Haven’t tried it in failsafe mode yet, but that won’t tell me where the
problem lies particularly, just whether or not it’s in the core product.

I realised that I’ve been streaming a bunch of music the last week or so
using Spotty, and that’s been much better. Went back to my local library
tonight and it started freezing again.

I will try with failsafe, but I think it would also be useful to know
which logging options would be worth cranking up to try to identify the
cause.

Any way you can think of to diagnose the lock-ups in LMS that this
thread is actually about? It seems to be much better since I got the
July 24 build, but definitely isn't working nearly as well as it was on
Debian 9.

bpa asked you to run in --failsafe mode. Did you do that? You mentioned
this happened when you eg. skipped tracks. What kind of tracks is this?
Any kind (local, remote)?

navigation is slow. After hitting 'next' on my playlist it takes slightly
less then a minute before music plays. If I switch radio stations after
hitting 'play' itt takes more then a minute before radio plays. To start
a new podcasts takes many minutes before playing starts (if at all)

After a little messing with this, my problem seems to be related to pcP

Something that will probably get worked out in later versions I

Thanks for this. I'll try to do some more testing over the weekend. In
response to question 2, it seems to be track navigation (skip, play,
pause) that triggers the issue. And I noticed it happening when I used
iPeng as well the other night, so it doesn't seem to be just the web
interface causing the problem.

I did pull Michael's latest July 24 build down to see if the fixes in
there would help and it (anecdotally) felt more responsive, but the
problems have persisted.

Also, make sure that you have the -ca-certificates- package installed.
It provides root certificates for verifying secure SSL/TLS connections.

You almost certainly do, but it is worth checking, as an absence of root
certificates will cause HTTPS failures.

LMS is single thread which means a badly behaved plugin or more recently
some https network problems can "lock" the system as WebUI and player
are all network comms.

Your LMS seems to be up to date (10 Jul by the datestamp). On 20 Jun
some changes were made to LMS to fix some blocking code on https
connections which had similar symptoms.
Also check your OpenSSL libraries are up to date

1. Have you tried LMS with all plugins disabled (i.e. --failsafe on

2. Does the lock up seems to be associated with a specific activity
such as looking at plugins tab of Settings ?

I've been able to get the problem to occur again with a clean logging
period, and I didn't get anything at all in the server log, so I think
those previous errors were related simply to it losing connection with
the players.

This definitely feels like it's related to the Perl version in Debian
Buster, although I would have thought that other distros were running
this version way before Debian adopted it, since Ubuntu and the like
tend to be more bleeding edge.

Not sure what the next steps are, but it's annoying since I use the web
interface a lot.

Am on buster too - I see my LMS client (squeezelite) disappearing on a
few occasions.
The funny thing is that those clients - on top of being disconnected -
had their squeezelite service halted as well. I have to restart the
squeezelite service on the client and re-establish connection to LMS.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS web interface keeps becoming unresponsive on Debian 10

2019-07-19 Thread drmatt

I've seen solid hangs in Lms since upgrading perl versions and it seemed
to be to do with the trackstat plugin. Do you use this?

Though I suspect it's more to do with a perl behaviour change. To me it
seems more likely that a method is being used which previously ran in
the background in parallel and is now causing a foreground lock to be
held. This is really hand waving hunch type stuff, but there you are.
Nothing changed on the plugin between not having the problem and having
it, so I have to look elsewhere..
