SeaMonkey 2.0.2 on Snow Leopard - Mail Folders Problem
Hi there, I just installed SeaMonkey here on my Mac and am using my .Mac account with it. However, there are many old, now removed, folders showing up in the IMAP folder list. I have tried deleting them but they keep coming back! I also took them off the Offline browsing list. No change. Each time I open SM mail I get many error messages indicating the folder doesn't exist (one message for folder). Ii did have SeaMonkey installed previously probably a year ago, and have also had ThunderBird on here as well (no longer resident), so I'm wondering if this is something to do with the profiles. How do I remove these non-existent folders once and for all? Please advise. Thank you! SeaMonkey does not start after update
Dear users of SeaMonkey, I was using Seamonkey 1.8 under Windows 7 Professional until yesterday on my Notebook. Yesterday evening an automatic update notice popped up and asked me whether I wanted to install the next version of SeaMonkey. I answered yes, had to authorise the administration tool for the user accounts of my notebook to accept certain modifications which were supposed to be carried out during the installation. No error message appeared. But since this update procedure has executed all its files, SeaMonkey does not start any more. When I click directly on the link on the desktop or when I click directly on C: \Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe, a pop-up window appears asking whether I would like to authorise the programme of an unknown publisher to carry out modifications on the computer. The programme to carry out these modifications is seamonkey.exe. It doesn't matter if I answer yes or no, since afterwards the pop-up window simply disappears and nothing else happens. Therefore, I have used a new feature which is available under the Windows 7.0, namely the Test programme compatibility. The result of the test is that seamonkey.exe is - according to Windows 7.0 Professional - an incompatible application. After having executed the test, I have the option to generate a report which is sent to Microsoft (who has not answered, since they never do) or to run through additional options. But none of these additional options is of help. Another idea was to stop my ESET antivirus before I start SeaMonkey. But the result was exactly the same as already described above. A last intention was to re-install the previous version of SeaMonkey, but the respective sub-programme under properties of Seamonkey searches for previous versions and ends with the message that there are no previous versions available on my notebook... The worst thing is that I have lost access to my e-mail account which is integrated in SeaMonkey. The browser is not that important, I can just use any other browser, but I do not want loose access to all my e- mails... Thank you very much for your help! Don't remove SM1 after installing SM2
I am under Windows XP SP3 and i finally have installed SM2.0.2 without any problem till now :-) except the following. This is to inform everybody that he should - First use add/remove program to Remove SM1. - Then Install SM2 by running the donwloaded SeaMonkey Setup 2.0.2.exe. I had installed SM2 without removing first SM1: - I encountred a mixed between SM1 and SM2 in the Start - All Programs - Seamonkey - Then to eliminate the mix - i used add/remove program to Remove SM1. - The mix dissappeared - so far so good - BUT also the link to start SM2 by using Start - All Programs - Seamonkey To remove this problem: - I used add/remove program to Remove SM1. - I used add/remove program to Remove SM2. - And finally i install SM2 by running the donwloaded SeaMonkey Setup 2.0.2.exe. - Now the Start - All Programs - Seamonkey is ok and suit SM2 only and completely. So i repeat: - First use add/remove program to Remove SM1. - Then Install SM2 by running the donwloaded SeaMonkey Setup 2.0.2.exe. SM 2.02, Ubuntu, heavy CPU load
Upon upgrade af SM to version 2.02 this morning I notice that SM is - still - rather slow, like it was in the previous releases. I've installed the GTK distributions on my Ubuntu 9.10 work station equipped with 4 1.60 GHz processors and 4GB RAM. While working, for example saving a mail/news posting, SM will sometimes for a while take more than 50% CPU; and even while idle will inbetween take 20% CPU. During startup SM can take up to 98% CPU. It may influence the CPU load that I use to have half a dozen browser tabs open? I've got the figures above by monitoring SM through Ubuntu system monitor. It's my overall subjective experience that SM reacts slowly (sometimes more, sometimes less) in spite of sufficient PC resources. Do others share that experience? I'm using SM anyway due to its obvious other qualities for me as a former Netscape user:-) -- Christian Mondrup, Archive Editor WIMA: Werner Icking Music Archive http://icking-music-archive.org/ ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Form Managers / Fillers
Does anyone have experience with the different Form Managers / Fillers Add-Ons that are out there? I am one of the folks that migrated to FF and TB because SM2 did away with the Form Manager SM1 used; figuring that there was no sense to stay with SM any longer. Is there an Add-On that is darn, close to being similar to SM's Old Form Manager? I currently, use Form History; it has in the past, removed some of the Form data that was in there at 1 time. 'Time Usage Criteria' has not had either box checked; I did check them once, entered 999,999 into the 'Days' and 0 into the 'Times' boxes, jus' in case, and then, unchecked the boxes and then, closed Form History. I haven't lost any data here in the last week or so. I have used FireForm before, but a few times I'd open FF and it would not be in the Tools menu. Coincidentally, I would notice that my ZoneAlarm Browser Security Toolbar, I have it as an icon in the bottom right of FF, would not pop up its dialog to save a file when I would download something, as it had in the past, at times when FireForm was also, missing from the Tools menu. .. Weird. I am now, trying the Form Saver; tried it once on only, 1 site so far. I am not sure that I fully, understand its capabilities, yet. I mean, will it fill in forms, or offer me the data to select to fill out any form, on any site? Where are the Folks that originally, coded SM1's great, well, functioning, user friendly, Form Manager?! If you are out there within the view of this post, could ya' please, code an Add-On identical to the SM1's Form Manager ... please?! - MikeyG ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

The PLUS was that not only did I have no bookmarks transferred *but* the personal toolbar was also locked and I could not drag drop items from the Navigation window. (The profile copy was successful since the Adblock icon now appeared on Personal toolbar -- and was operable -- of M2 browser and in the M2 SM email client, all subfolders, filters and mail were present and operable.) End initial attempt at elegant symphony. :-) (it should have worked -- unless SQL recognized the file as not its own though a little used facility of the file descriptormaybe) Enter Plan B: 1. Export bookmarks from M1 to file (bookmarks.html) on shared folder on M1. 2. Import bookmarks to M2 (using manage bookmarks) 3. For that session, there were 536 objects in bookmark manager and bookmarks did exist from toolbar call of bookmarks but not on Personal Toolbar. 4. I unset and reset bookmarks toolbar as personal toolbar. Result: Personal toolbar populated with proper bookmarks and folders. BUT When i closed and reopened SM on M2, all bookmarks had disappeared. (I did Plan A and Plan B complete operations several times) Any ideas? jim Assuming Windoze, and default installation locations: 1. Install SM on target computer. 2. Shut down SM on both computers _completely_. 3. On target computer, completely delete folder C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey, and all its subfolders. 4. Also on target computer, completely delete folder C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla, and all its subfolders. 5. Copy those same two folders, and all their subfolders, from the source computer to the target computer. DO NOT CHANGE ANY FILES. 6. Start SM on the target computer. I used this strategy to clone my desktop's SM to my laptop; I use a standard folder synchronization program between the two machines (for the folders indicated above) to keep 'em in line. -JW I will try that *precisely* as you state it and I hope that I get the same result that you did. Claus Claus, I would not trust Microsoft when they say the software is not compatible with their system, regardless of what was said about previous versions (I believe you meant SeaMonkey 1.1.18). I would go to the SeaMonkey downloads site and see what version they claim works on your system. They would know, as they built it. As far as how to upgrade, I would do the following: 1. Re-install SeaMonkey 1.1.18 on your system and make sure you have access to your e-mail, etc. This is a priority. You want to make sure that you still have everything and that it is all working. 2. Download the new version of SeaMonkey 2.X and install it. The default installation location for SeaMonkey 2.X is different than the default installation location for SeaMonkey 1.1.X, but in any case, don't install the 2.X version in the same directory you installed the 1.1.X version. Then, you can deal with migrating your existing SM 1.1.X profile to your new SM 2.X profile location. I'll leave that as a topic for someone that's gone through it. Re: SeaMonkey does not start after update
I just thought of something: are you using a localized version of 2.0.2? Maybe that would have something to do with it. When SM auto-updated to 2.0.2, I got a warning that my French language pack add-on wasn't compatible and wouldn't work. I just ignored it and everything installed fine and in French too. I guess that the language pack (probably imported from my 1.1.18 profile when I switched to 2.0) isn't necessary anymore and is integrated in the file. Anyway! All that to say that if you *were* using a localized version, try downloading and installing the English version to see how that works. We could then take it from there. Took me only 3 installs to get it right! [grin] First thing was to clean up old SM files under XP. That included uninstalling SM1.1.18 and deleting the SM2 profile that had been created when I tried a beta copy of SM2 (location - C:\Documents and Settings\John W\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles) Install of SM2 was easy including importing all my SM1.1.18 profile info that was on my D: drive. I then created a new directory on my D: drive for the SM2 profile (I labeled it moz). With SM2 running again, I hit Tools|Switch Profile and clicked to create a new profile. I selected my new D:\moz as the location and named the new profile (JW for me). Closed SM. Using Win Explorer, I copied my SM1 profile files under D:\nsp to the new SM2 profile location, D:\moz. That is: I copied everything under that crazy code number (that Netscape assigned when I first set-up that profile) D:\nsp\jw\6tw0u8b7.slt to D\moz. Exited Explorer. Restarted SM2 and all my old profile info came up just fine with Browser, Mail, Addresses all looking and acting just like SM1. After that, I did clean up - went back to Tools|Switch Profile and deleted the default profile that was set up when I first installed SM2. + + + + + + Lacking any other suggestion, I tried to follow your approach. Since I had started with a clean SM v.2.0.1 install, copied all of the messed up profile information to a CD-R and deleted the profile folders from both my c:\ partition 'Documents and Settings' directory (folder) and from the partition and directory where I tried to move the profiles. I then tried to restart SM. It would NOT restart and returned the error message: SeaMonkey is already running but is not responding. The only thing I can think of is that SM has left behind some hidden file somewhere that I can't see and/or don't know where to find so it can be removed. Smiles wrote: I have tried 4 times to move to SM v.2.01 If I leave my profile as is it always chooses the wrong profile to move and set up as default. So I remove the other 3 giving it only one option this is my primary account, having 9 accounts in default profile location and it has three accounts with files on my G drive as long term storage going back 11 years. SM v.2.01 wants to move all that data to its default mail profile on C. Any idea on how to stop that? I think the whole idea of setting a profile up as default is a bug. If the name is not default then whatever profile it migrates should keep its name. Next how can I add the other profiles if I move them back to old profile they always get added to my default profile when imported. If I use profile manger I do not seem to pick up my old profile. I need to see only the currant profile I log into I do screen shots for teaching on two profiles plus this profile for my eight news servers. I do not want any cross readability shown. Migrate one, rename it from default to the proper name, then migrate the rest? I haven't tried this, but it seems sane, although my automatic migrates always did the right thing for the first. I'd like a sensible way to migrate a profile giving the old and new name. I still think that the migration tool should have been a separate software, not built-in, then capabilities could be added. It could even have been written in such a way that people didn't have to invest weeks in code study before rewriting or enhancing. -- Bill Davidsen david...@tmr.com We have more to fear from the bungling of the incompetent than from the machinations of the wicked. - from Slashdot ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Re: Don't remove SM1 after installing SM2
Ray_Net wrote: Leonidas Jones wrote: Ray_Net wrote: I am under Windows XP SP3 and i finally have installed SM2.0.2 without any problem till now :-) except the following. - The mix dissappeared - so far so good - BUT also the link to start SM2 by using Start - All Programs - Seamonkey To remove this problem: - I used add/remove program to Remove SM2. To avoid the problem i encountered. You could also have used the Properties dialog for the Start menu shortcuts, to repoint them to the new location for SeaMonkey 2.0. Its a hassle, I admit, but it would have saved you the ininstall/reinstall of SM2. (i have modified my previous text due to a mistake) The problem was first because having both SM intalled, the start menu dialog points to a mixed of SM1 and SM2; then after removing SM1 the problem is not to repoint somewhere, but to réinstate loosed links. This last action removing/installing SM2 was very fast(no migration step) and give me a surely correct situation. This is to explain why i have done this to cure the problem. Anyway the message i will pass to everybody is: Don't remove SM1 after installing SM2 ... DO IT BEFORE. All I can say is that I installed SM 2.0 without removing SM 1.1.18. BOth currently exist on my XP machine. The StArt menu shortcuts ppoint to SM 2.0., so its not a consistent behavior, I guess. Re: Lost my Add-on with SM 2.0.2. last update

I checked out the compatibility of some of the themes, they are installed properly in my browser but they don't apply when I reboot SM. I can only use the default one. Which theme was it? In my case, my GreyModern theme was deactivated at that time (probably because 2.0.2 was older than the max version defined in the theme), but a quick search online showed me that its author had already put out an update for it. What I'd like to know is why SM didn't detect the more recent version automatically, though. The same happens with some add-ons too. S. My add-on manager is ok with some of the themes found on Mozilla.org installed and ready to use. None of them show up on reboot. I was using Sky Pilot Classic before and thought it wasn't compatible anymore, but same problem with the other themes. I just switched to Sky Pilot Classic, which I had installed before the upgrade to 2.0.2, and it is behaving fine. Indeed, all the themes I had installed before 2.0.2 are working without issue. Try reinstalling the theme. I do have Mr Teck Toolkit installed, maybe that is a factor.
