On UseNet, some/several posters have a habit of cross-posting their
messages to news group that I am not in the least interested in, so is
it possible to set up a filter to "Mark as Read" any message that is
Cross-posted to particular news group??

I've had a look in the Tools->Message Filters->New screen and it seems
to allow to filter on "Subject", "From", "Date" and "Size" and it then
offers "Customize". I'm guessing, if filtering on "newsgroups
cross-posted to", it would be under this selection . Right??

Select "Customize...", and then on that dialog, in the "New message
header:" box, type "Newsgroups", and click "OK". You can now create a
filter containing cross-posts to newsgroups you wish to ignore.

On my setup, I've also added "Body", so I can filter on words _within_ a

A couple of years ago, that stopped working for me, so I switched to a

was modest.

Last year, Lastpass acquired Xmarks with big plans for folding it into
Lastpass, which I also use for passwords. But yesterday Lastpass made
this announcement:

On May 1, 2018, we will be shutting down Xmarks. Your account will
remain active until then. After this date, your bookmarks should
remain available in any previously accessed browser, but they will no
longer sync and your Xmarks account will be deactivated.

What other options are available for syncing bookmarks in Seamonkey?

As long as you're not using SM on more than one of those computers at
the same time, there's no reason why you can't move your SM profile
(which includes the bookmarks) to a cloud service, and then sync that
folder on multiple computers through the cloud service.

I currently have my SM profile on OneDrive, which both my desktop and

I did read about the PrefBar extension. However, I thought I had
recalled
reading in that Buzilla thread that the PrefBar was using exactly the
same
expression internally do purge browser history. If that is the case,
that would
mean that PrefBar would no longer work with SM 2.46, since that is my
problem in
the first place, that the expression no longer works in the error
console
evaluation. Are you currently using PrefBar in SM 2.46? I have no
verification
from anyone that PrefBar, which uses the exact same expression, is
currently
working in SM 2.46.

It seems to work for my SM since I quick check my histories often.
When I purge
the histories, I can feel the small short pauses too.

I reviewed the entire thread and I have no confirmation of what SM
version you are using PrefBar with for deleting your browser history.
Are you on SM 2.46 or another version? The other user in this thread is
on SM 2.46 but appears not to be using his installed PrefBar for browser
history deletion so I still have no confirmation on whether PrefBar
works in SM 2.46. If it does, then that doesn't make sense because
PrefBar essentially integrated the original expression lifted from that
Bugzilla thread and since that expression no longer works in the SM 2.46
error console, I don't see how the PrefBar using the exact same
expression in SM 2.46 would be functional.

Usually I would go into SQLite Manager extension installed in SM, run
the PLACES.SQLITE compacting, then run the expression in the SM error
console, and run the SQLite Manager compacting one more time and would
notice a major reduction in the PLACES.SQLITE file size, which then
confirms that the expression did its job.

The OP postulates (correctly, I think) that some change from F16 to F17

Your bookmarks are now part of places.sqlite.

If you set browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to true, they will be
exported to file bookmarks.html every time you terminate SeaMonkey.
When you use the Bookmarks Manager to update your bookmarks, you can
also export them to bookmarks.html (or any other file). Then, you can
still use bookmarks.html as your home page, as I do.

As do I.

Easier than manually exporting, though - once you have the

This goes back all the way to Mozilla, so it may be a W3C compliance

On many websites, I can't seem to get a decent printout. For example, my
local paper has a searchable obituaries page, and I got 60 hits on my
last search, but it would only print the first page. I can see the rest
on screen, but I can't get them out on paper.

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/montgomerynews/obituary-search.aspx?page=1affiliateid=2762countryid=1daterange=8stateid=49startdate=20110116enddate=20110210entriesperpage=50

This returns 60 hits, of which the first 50 are displayed, but only
seven will print. In fact, in print preview, the first page is the page
header with no content, the second page is the first page of content,
and the third page is the page footer. That's it. The other 43 hits have
 vanished.

I've tried this with several different printers, including Adobe
Acrobat, and they're all the same. Mozilla and SeaMonkey seem to think
the second page is 10 feet tall and print only the first 11 inches.

Needless to say, it prints fine in Internet Exploiter (except the header
page, which is the same in both).

Any ideas? I hate wasting ink and paper on ads, and I really hate having
to switch browsers whenever I want to print something.

Yes, switch to Google Chrome/Chromium to print.

Attempting to print that page (an most any web page) in anything Mozilla
is akin to spitting into the wind keeping dry. Mozilla (SeaMonkey and
FF) has had issues for years with printing; I provided some examples on
the dev group/list awhile back was told that it was my OS that was the
problem:

http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/JUslgS4dmgZfEKK87TXI
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey/browse_frm/thread/48fffae1a06d4c58/9bbf55890c22c896?tvc=1#9bbf55890c22c896

So I then switch operating systems (from linux to Win7) and... well you
can read the entire thread for the responses.

I've also tried printing your web page on SM 2.1x and FF 4.x and it's
still the same. Just install Chrome/Chromium and print it from there -
you'll save yourself a ton of aggravation the print will work out of
the box.

Practically, yes. SM 2.1 will read it once initially and import its
contents into places.sqlite. It will use that file then and stop using
or updating bookmarks.html. If however you go to about:config, create a
boolean pref called browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML and set it to true,
SM 2.1 will again write bookmarks.html, but only upon exit.

interested in, I right click and open it in a new tab. When I'm done
I usually have four or five extra tabs open. I go to each tab and
save the page locally. This is where the problem is. Within two or
three saves, SM will freeze up in the Save As dialog box. Usually
just clicking in the File name area will cause it. At this point, the
only thing I can do is go to task manager (where XP says SM is running
fine) and kill it. I then run it again, wait for the tabs to load in
and continue saving until it freezes up again. This is a real pain in
the A$$! The Save As dialog box doesn't operate normally in other
ways when saving from that site. For example, if I type in a new name
and press enter, it highlights the name instead of accepting the enter
as the Save button being pressed.

There are many other web sites where I save pages this way.
Zap2it.com is the only place I've found where this happens.

I have no idea why it's happening but I can confirm it. Tested on
SeaMonkey 2.0.8 and Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows 7 Pro.

1. Go go link above, select a service
2. Open four show descriptions in new tabs
3. After saving one or two tabs CPU usage jumps to 50% and memory usage
keeps climbing, falling climbing etc. and the app appears frozen. I can
select other program windows but cannot re-select FF/SM. A couple of
times during testing my entire system froze for several minutes. I
couldn't select anything. I finally hit SHIFT-CTRL-ESC and that forced
Task Manager to have focus. I then manually killed the FF/SM process.

Does not happen with Opera 10.61.

So you said that SM is not clever enough to transform it to a forward

No, I said: SM is not 'clever' about, which was meant as SM is not
stupid to. Sorry for not being clear enough.

You are wrong because when i propose to SM the following:
 file:///C:/Program Files/Abyss Web Server/htdocs/IMAGES\pose-yoga.jpg
he shows me the picture and modify his URL-adress-zone as follow:
 file:///C:/Program Files/Abyss Web Server/htdocs/IMAGES/pose-yoga.jpg

Why SM is clever with file adress and not with webserver adress ?

I think David E. Ross has given you a very probable explanation in
 another reply:

 news://news.mozilla.org:119/euqdnsazdykfwv7rnz2dnuvz_uadn...@mozilla.org

If you want to find out for real, you could ask the Mozilla devs in a
 more technical group.

I will not go further, because SM gurus and devs think they are the best
... it's abnormal that SM works in every possible way except when the
page is on my isp web space. This was causing me lot of understandings
why it did not work when uploaded for online general use.

File structure on the local system follows the rules of the particular
OS involved whereas on a server, the convention in most cases is quite
different and therefore interpreted differently by the browser.

 file:/server/directory/file.htm is server based
file:/c:/directory/file.htm is local system based and the browser will
automatically insert two more // such as:

 file:///c:/directory/file.htm

Your image is displayed because everything following the file:/// is
interpreted as being formatted locally and local rules apply, therefore
the backslash \ is rendered correctly.

If you try: http://your_server/directory/images\image.jpg will usually
not work because the \ is an illegal character as such in some browsers
but not all browsers. IE guesses that the \ is really a / and will work.

As explained before http://localhost/IMAGES\pose-yoga.jpg with SM works
... localhost is a an access to your_server (mine)

Yes, on YOUR local system, that's my point.

If you try my examples, you'll find that it doesn't work on a remote server:

 http://www.ufaq.org/themes/RavenIce/images\logo.gif

local systems are governed by whatever OS you're running locally.

Why did I wait? Because I had gone to the e-s web site and seen that

Two failures in a two day period doesn't sound reliable.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. :-) (30?)

I can't imagine how you can trick SeaMonkey into doing it your way
unless you're manually adding your first name to every message.

Actually, the signature line in question _is_ added manually; I
change it for various contexts. The rest -- my address -- is the sig
file. And I'm using Pegasus Mail in any case.

Perhaps Pegasus expects that you should add the -- as the first line
*within* in your sig text. I've encountered a few clients like that over
the years -- and discarded them.

As you can see, your inclusion of text on the same line after the
space prevents my SeaMonkey from recognizing your sig as such, so it
doesn't automatically snip it when I reply.

So any time I put -- by itself on a line, everything below that is
 snipped?

Just for kicks, I will manually add a -- here. See what happens when
 you select Reply:

My signature is:

Phillip M. Jones, C.E.T. If it's Fixed, Don't Break it
http://www.phillipmjones.net mailto:pjon...@kimbanet.com

But I use the dash, dash, space so that it only shows the first time I
post in any given thread.

signature, the signature is not quoted or included in your reply. -JW

I get this sometimes when the link is actually for JavaScript. The
script tries to launch a new page (which in my case becomes a new tab)
as it fetches the PDF file. It seems that the script actually downloads
another script (new page) that, in turn, gets the PDF file. Obviously,
if this is what is happening, it's a poorly designed Web site.

In my opinion there is no need at all for SM to open a blank tab/page
when it's the PDF reader that is launched, no matter how the web page
is designed! Why not just open the PDF reader?

I don't think it necessarily is supposed to. On occasion, when SeaMonkey
crashes for whatever reason it goes to a Blank Home page the only way to
cure is go to your homepage. then go to Preferences (in Macintosh -
called something else in Widows/Linux/UNIX) then To Browser clear out
what ever you have set as home page and click on Use current page) this
will fix it until next crash. Possibly the same mechanism the screws up
then is screwing up when you call a PDF and the only PDF viewer from
within SM or ThunderBird for that matter, that works is called PDF
Browser Plugin by Schubert of Germany.

There's no crash involved with this, though - it's just this extra,
blank page that opens up while the PDF is downloading and before
whatever external PDF reader is called, and which stays open and blank,
even after the PDF reader is exited.

It's not a crash, and it's really only cumbersome to the extent that
it requires one click on the X to close it away, but it's still a bug.

It's not the launching of the PDF reader that throws up the blank page.
It's the JavaScript that thinks the PDF file will be viewed in a
browser window. However, the PDF file is served by a MIME type that
instead requires a separate PDF reader. As I said before, it's the
result of a poorly designed Web page.

Okay, then give me a link to a site with downloadable PDF-files where
this don't happen. Sure there must be at least one you have found, and
even that would be one more than I know about.

I have also still to find a PDF file that *requires* a separate PDF
reader. Only in IE (v.8) I have no clue how to prevent PDF's from
opening within the browser window, but since I don't use IE I don't
 care. ;)

I believe it is the code within SM that cause this, not the site. When
SM can't decide if the pref settings are set to open within the SM
tab/page or within the stand alone PDF reader.

How about trying the Family Tree files I have on my website. I use PDF's
extensively I just link to to them I have the files loaded on my
website. they will either open with a PDFViewer such as adobe's for
Safari. Or in a PDF Browser Plugin from Schubert for anything else
except for a PDF viewer such as Acrobat Reader, or equivalent.

I don't use java or javascript.
