Re: Possible fix, was Re: WE suddenly notifying me I have an evaluation copy

2023-03-22 Thread David Pedersen via Talk
By earlier experience: When this kind of behavior has shown up in
the past - this it seems to do every now and then - all I have had to do is to
hard-boot my computer. That is shut it all down, and start it up again. Seems
waking it up from sleep mode does not work, as it will only reload memory. Even
restarting it, warm-booting, seems not to do the trick. Have no clue why it
pops up once in a while. Get a feeling it happens upon some update
installations of Windows itself.

Hello

I have tried the suggestion for a fix and it seems to have worked.
Instead of adding a line under misc, I simply edited the existing line
and changed it from a 1 to a 0.

Hi all,

It appears that Vispero have completely taken down all GW Micro-related
pages and services without any warning. This is likely the reason for the
errant message on startup. I expect checking for updates, downloading apps,
and the like are completely busted now.

Hello again listers,

I have just come off a rather tromatic computer crash experience, one that I
think will haunt me for at least a while. I will spare you all the gory
details in this message.

Although I do intend to make the migration to JAWS some time in the
relatively near future, but right now I have managed to get WE for Offfice
to run, thanks to the Office key being stored on my motherboard.
I certainly hope that one of you can give me the news I would so much like
to hear.

What I need to know if it is at all possible to once again obtain Eloquence
speech since I lost my previous license in the crash.

At present I am using the female Microsoft voice, but it is not only harder
to understand, but the responsiveness leaves much to be desired.

If not, would it be possible to use a version of Eloquence purchased for
NVDA with WE for Office as well?

Hope I've made myself understandbale in my enquiree. At the moment, nothing
else makes any real sense at the moment.

Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated,

Larry

If the Eloquence you purchased for NVDA is SAPI 5 complient, just set it
in the Window-eyes synthesizer menu as sapi and find the voice in the
list.

If not, you can email wesupp...@aisquared.com and they can get your
eloquence for Window-eyes for office back.

Re: is it possible?

2017-05-30 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk
The main thing here is to make sure that both screen readers are not
opened at the same time, or at least, not while running on Win7. Every
time I started my PC with both programs installed to run from the
beginning, (not by personal default,) my ystem received a blue scree
failure. For me, the trick was to find out which one I could close
before the other started talking. Once I made the startup change, all
has been fine.

Yes, they both have their own peculiarities, so it becomes necessary for
me to close one and open the other for a specific task, so I am glad
they can both be on the system.

2017-05-30 Thread Amanda Lee via Talk
Very true and have operated this way for years as I have used them for
testing for various purposes or at times, I've found one Screen Reader
provides a better interpretation of the content, the controls within an
application for navigational purposes and other aspects. I only recently
had issues with JAWS crashing after I unloaded Window-Eyes and JAWS blue
screened. There were updates for Framework which seemed to have resolved
this aftertheir installation. Still, this isn't related to both Screen
Readers being installed on the same computer at all.

Hi,

JAWS won't install over any copy of Window-Eyes, you can have them both
installed quite happily.

All the best

Hello group, I just got the message about win eyes being discontinued and
that I can itagrate to jaws. My question is will I be able to keep my
current copy of window eyes and use it if I want too? I have the latest
version o.5.0. or will jaws install over this copy? If so can I still get a
cd of window eyes 9.5.0? Thanks for all the help. Rick

If you are in the Window-Eyes control panel, alt-f4 is the close command
or you can use the menues, alt-f, and up arrow to exit.
On the other hand, if you are on any other screen, control-insert-f4 is
the built-in Window-Eyes shut down key command.

if both w e and jaws is running the computer will crash before you can shut w e
down.
i had to find and rename the gwmicro folder with nvda running. then windows
can't find wineyes to load. let jaws load on reboot and turn it off so it would
not load on startup. rename the gwmicro folder back. then reboot the computer.

***
there is 3 ways of doing this.
open w e with control backslash and press alt f4 to close it.
use the w e hot keys control insert f4. but i can't use this if w e has
crashed.

***
the long way, which is the way i do it all the time.
i use a batch file with a desktop shortcut to the batch file and a shortcut key
to load it.
you can use a w e switch to kill wineyes. you can even try it in the windows
run dialog box.

type in wineyes.exe /k to try it.
with the batch file you can use note pad to create it.
type in the path to the wineyes.exe file with the /k switch.. includeing the
quotes.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GW Micro\Window-Eyes\wineyes.exe" /k
then create the desktop shortcut to the batch file and add your own shortcut
keys to run it.

you only have to do this once. grin

 Hi

No you will absolutely not lose your current instalation of Window-eyes
if you install another screenreader like JAWS, because JAWS is a
completely different Windows program that installs into a different
folder location on your pc. You can safely have several screenreaders
like Window-eyes, JAWS and NVDA and they will all co-exist without any
problems whatsoever.

 Hope that helps.

Re: Is it possible?

2017-05-28 Thread Dave via Talk
Jaws does not over write Window Eyes. If you have Window Eyes starting
when you Boot up the System, be sure to set Jaws up, to Not start at
Boot up. Otherwise you will have both Jaws and Window Eyes starting
together. Not a problem, if it does, just shut down one of them and go
from there.

Re: Is it possible?

2017-05-28 Thread David Gerry via Talk
Hello,

I have both installed on my system. Currently I still have Window-Eyes
launch at the login screen and automatically on my desktop. I did have
to setup a shortcut key in the JfW icon on my desktop (control+shift+J)
because it doesn't have one by default. Now I can unload Window-Eyes and
use the shortcut to start JfW when I want to practive with it. I'm still
having a hard time migrating but when I have nothing that needs to be
done I can practice with JfW.

RE: Is it possible?

2017-05-28 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk
As stated, you can install JAWS without uninstalling Window-Eyes. One thing
you do need to be aware of, though, is to make sure that you disable
Window-Eyes’ automatic startup, otherwise JAWS and Window-Eyes will try to run
together. This can result in weird things happening, not to mention 2 speech
synthesizers talking at the same time.

On the issue of Window-Eyes CD, I recommend writing to:

wesupp...@aisquared.com

and asking that question.

Thanks!

Actually, the volume setting is also in the same screen. It is the next
tab after you set the pitch control. Now, for something nice, though,
they did include hot keys for changing the speed. Increase and decrease
for temporary use is alt-page up and alt-page down. To make permanent
changes, throw in the windows key to the mix, grin.

Re: Eloquence pitch in jaws?
Yes, this can be done. My instructions may not be the best, but I think you
can figure it out since you have already been in the Jaws options and found
the voice settings. From within the voices setting, choose voice
adjustment.
Press alt-v to get to the combo box where you choose which cursor you want
to modify.
you will get to an option where you can down arrow through options for
default cursor, PC cursor, Jaws cursor, etc.
You can not have the option set to default. After choosing the cursor you
want to set, tab until you find the pitch setting. This is the next tab
after
the punctuation setting.
You change it with the arrow keys.
Once you have it set, tab to save as and give it a name, something you will
recognize, like Glen pitch 44 and press enter on OK.
You will be asked if you want to set this for the default. Enter on yes or
OK, I forgot what it is called at this point.
Now, you will have access to that voice whenever you want to use it.

Re: A question about a possible add on

2016-05-09 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Hi Larry,

Why not save the file attachment to a folder just for that purpose.
This way, when you need to send the attachment, you will always be in
the correct folder, once you have selected it the first time. Now, if
there are more than one file in that folder, all you need to do is type
the first couple of lettters of the file name and then press down arrow
to select the file and press enter. So, the command would be:

alt-f, h, enter, type in letters, down arrow, enter.

In my case, my Carol folder is my default and I usually know just what
the file name is I am looking for, so a couple of keystrokes does the
trick to locate the file in question.

I have noticed these things since I have installed the newest version of
Thunderbird.

First, when reading a certain email, a kind of minicatalog, WE is very
slow to respond when I arrow down through the message. This does not
happen with shorter messages.

Second, when I am writing a message in Thunderbird, the backspace
doesn't always work when I want to correct a mistake; when I press it, I
get the Windows sound.

O, I almost forgot. I have WE 9.4.

Thank you.

Re: possible Thunderbird and/or WE problem

2016-05-04 Thread Nick Sarames via Talk
Yeah I've been wondering about the back space issue for a while. Another
observation, when I am replying to some e-mails, the back space, or I
should say WE, does read me what I am erasing.

Another issue is that when I am reviewing my message with arrow keys, WE
reads me letters which are not there. For example, WE thinks I have
spelled e-mails, e-mailss.

2016-02-29 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Audio enhancements is by nature going to slow down any computer whether
it has a screen-reader on it or not. This is because every audio event
is being intercepted and processed before it is output.

It's simply much more noticeable with a screen-reader because we have a
constant stream of speech as compared to the occasional little bleeps
and bloops and dings and dongs the sighted user has. Therefore every
speech event is delayed for that processing, which creates a bottleneck
in data flow. Any system is only as good as its weakest link.

Audio enhancement is nothing more than an attempt to compensate for the
3 dollar speakers in tablets, laptops, and those that come with desktops
or in monitors.

Re: possible announce hashtag script?

2016-01-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Chris,

While in your browser open the Window-Eyes control panel.
Go to Dictionaries, Status, Character dictionaries include program
dictionary, and check it.

This should create a dictionary such as IE.chr for IE.
F6 back to Status and arrow down to Character dictionary.
Then tab to Original and Replacement and enter the number sign and hash
tag respectively.
Keep tabbing down and you should see that it's in the IE.chr or whatever
browser you're using character dictionary.

Keep going until you hit the Save button and activate it.

Hth,
Tom

Hi guys!
Every so often I have an idea, but don't necessarily have the scripting

hashtags on social media like Facebook, and especially twitter. Hashtags
are huge on there. As it is now, Window-eyes does not announce what the
hashtag actually is, so I was thinking it'd be kind of nice to be able
to hear the words "hash tag" before the actual text of the hashtag
itself. For those not familiar, a hashtag is a series of characters
proceeded by a number sign. If the hashtag is multiple words, it all
gets run together. To make them understood a little better, some people
will put capital letters at the beginning of each word so it's easier to
tell what it's actually saying.
For example, if you're watching Monday Night Football and you're
tweeting about it, you would use the #MNF hashtag. So for example, if
you saw a tweet with that particular hashtag, Window-eyes would say,
hash tag MNF, instead of number mnf.

I atempted to do this with the pronunciation dictionary, but didn't
have much luck, since the text of the hashtag is constantly going to be
different. I'm wondering if there's a way to do this in Window-eyes
itself, or would a script have to be written to achieve this? Also, I'm
sure that not everyone wants this behavior all the time, so a setting to
disable it would be good too. Like I said I'm totally not a scripting
guru, but as I was going through tweets one night, I thought to myself
that it'd be nice to have this functionality. Let me know if this is
even doable, and if so, how I can make this happen.

Thanks guys!

Re: possible announce hashtag script?

2016-01-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
If you want it to be global just put it in the standard char.chr
dictionary. Below are the instructions from the manual. Note at the end
how you can associate it with the font. That would cut down on hash tag
being voiced in other programs using other fonts.
The unicode value is 23. So you'd enter "/x23" without the quotes. Note
the slash.

The Character Dictionary The character dictionary functions like the
pronunciation dictionary. The difference is that Window-Eyes uses the
character dictionary to alter its pronunciation of any Unicode
character, whether it is surrounded by other characters or is displayed
alone on the screen.

To add an entry to a Window-Eyes character dictionary:
Press the Edit Dictionaries hot key, which is Control-Shift-E by
default, to reach the dictionaries settings group in the Window-Eyes
control panel. Or, press Control-Backslash, and press "D" until you
reach the "Dictionaries" settings group.

Press the right arrow to expand the node.
Press the down arrow until the Character option is selected.
Tab to the "Original" edit box, and type the character whose
pronunciation you want to change. If your mouse pointer was on a
character when you pressed Control-Shift-E, then this box will already
contain it.
Tab to the "Replacement" edit box, and enter the text Window-Eyes should
speak when it encounters the character.
Tab to the "Update Entry" button, and press the Space Bar to add the
newly defined character definition to the dictionary.
You can Tab to the list of defined characters and remove either a single
entry, or you can delete all character entries in the active dictionary
at once. See the detailed explanation of the Window-Eyes control panel
later in this user's guide for additional information about these controls.
If you wish to define a character which cannot be typed from the
keyboard, you can use an alternative method. For example, an Unicode 147
is often used as a quote symbol. But this character cannot easily be
typed from the keyboard. You can use the following to make an entry for
this character:

/x147
Simply start the entry with the Slash key followed by the Unicode value
of the character you want to define.
If the character was automatically placed in the original edit box
because you pressed the Edit Dictionaries hot key with the mouse pointer
sitting on the character, you will also have the option of associating
the font of the character in question with the entry. That is,
Window-Eyes will only voice the replacement text for the character if
both the character name and font match what is stored in the dictionary.

 Hi Tom

Since I use a twitter client that works globally anywhere in Windows, I

Windows, that I forgot to mention that. Unless what you're saying can be
set to work globally, as in anywhere within Window-eyes itself? The
twitter client I use, called TW Blue allows you to use either a user
interface, or you can hide the interface and use specific keystrokes in
conjunction with the control and windows keys to read tweets.

I'm sorry for not being so clear about how it would have to be global.
Thanks.

Hi Tom

Since I use a twitter client that works globally anywhere in Windows, I
would need something that works globaly, instead of something program
specific. I get so used to using something that integrates itself into
Windows, that I forgot to mention that.

Thanks.

While in your browser open the Window-Eyes control panel.
Go to Dictionaries, Status, Character dictionaries include program
dictionary, and check it.

This should create a dictionary such as IE.chr for IE.
F6 back to Status and arrow down to Character dictionary.
Then tab to Original and Replacement and enter the number sign and
hash tag respectively.
Keep tabbing down and you should see that it's in the IE.chr or
whatever browser you're using character dictionary.

Keep going until you hit the Save button and activate it.

Hi guys!
Every so often I have an idea, but don't necessarily have the scripting
chops to make it happen. More and more nowadays, people are using
hashtags on social media like Facebook, and especially twitter. Hashtags
are huge on there.

Jonathan, I am unfamiliar with the echo that you mention. What is it please?

After you make a preset in Winamp by using the ctrl-shift keys along
with a particular number on the top row of the keyboard, you can use
that number to go directly to any audio stream. Kind of like using the
buttons on a radio. It is really one of the cool things about the Winamp
app, or as we used to call them "script."

Anyway, if you could please tell me a bit more about this possible
conflict, I certainly would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry,

You should check the Scope of the setting for Keyboard, Voice in the set
file which is in effect for the Winamp app, assuming that there is a unique
set file in effect, and this can be checked by opening the WE control panel
when Winamp is the active application.
My guess is that it is set for Program, and you should change it to Global.

Re: Is it possible for a WE user to effectively access the Microsoft Communities site?

2015-04-18 Thread via Talk
I have done this successfully, but its definitely tricky. You want to
hit the link which says reply, from there, what I have done is to pass
over the options like bold, etc. and turn off bm and eventually after
doing that I tab into rich edit box where I can type -- its the last
thing in that list. Its a mess, but doable is all I can say.

What I am really asking here is if anyone has had any
luck posting to the MS Communities site?

I have a conversation that I would like to join specifically
concerning getting my Epson 1660 scanner to work with Windows 8.1, but
WE isn't giving me any satisfactory info as to whether I am able to do
so. I see so many menu items on the page, and when I press enter on
them, nothing seems to happen. Maybe there is a secret to using these
menu items that I'm not aware of? I don't see any obvious edit boxes
 to use either.

If I seem to be going all over the map with this post, I'm just trying
to post a reply for clarification on a matter, but just can't figure
out how to do so using Window-Eyes.

 Could someone please help?

 Thanks,

 Larry
