At first I thought he meant window eyes, but then I read the message
underneath where the person said he hoped narrator would be made better. So
that's what I thought was talked about when it was said that it was almost
unusable. Pam.

Window Eyes is working great for me, if it is almost unusable for you, there
has to be a problem with its installation or something like a virus on your
computer.

 Hello list.

I don't think any comments sent to the vfo people will do much good.

Personally,I hope Microsoft Narater becomes so perfected that it puts
the other screen reader into the useless category.

That would make Narrater the main screen reader just as Voiceover is for
 the Apple products.

Probably that's how it should be any way.

The possibility of Window Eyes being phased out just makes my heart sick.

Having to change over to something else andlearn all those commands and
other things just seems a little to much of a chalange at this age.

Something is just a little funny about this whole thing.

 Kenneth Son.

2016-10-16 Thread Bryan Peterson via Talk
We can certainly hope. I do, although I'm not optimistic. We are, after all,
talking about a group of companies that includes Greedom Science Fiction.
But like others I'll just use the office version of WE until we get an
official answer and, should the worst case scenario come to pass, continue
to use it as long as humanly possible. I just know I absolutely will not go
back to JAWS, even if I have to resort to NVDA fulltime.

Hi:

I can say, having been through a "merger" which really was an acquisition,
there are things that take time to sort out. Many times, these things are
done just to get the customer base of the company that was a competitor.

One of my friends who was in a company that was acquired, told me how the
employees of the acquiring company were under strict orders not to talk to
employees of the company they were acquiring. This was, at least partially,
due to the fact that the acquiring company was not unionized, whereas the
company being acquired had been unionized.

Now, we can tell some communication is going on, but, at what level, and
with whom, we do not know.

At any rate, these things are usually not pleasant to go through, especially
when you are part of the company being acquired by a larger one. And, it is
possible that any AI Squared employees monitoring this list may, themselves,
not be totally aware of what is being talked about at a higher level. Those
still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone, but, may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect. If this is the case,
ranthing about the unfairness of it all on this list may only be seen by
folks just as worried as you are, maybe more.

Like others, I feel the best thing is to try our best to let VFO management
know how we feel.

Also, just remember, Window-Eyes has not gone away, yet. You can still
download the WE For Office version, and, updates are still being delivered.
I suspect there are Lease-To-Own customers to think about. Also, can they
just pull the product without giving advanced notice to MicroSoft, since, I
am sure, some kind of contract had to be entered into with MicroSoft?

There are so many things we just do not know.

And, think about this: Any decline in the Window-Eyes user-base, because of
negative talk will probably end up putting the final nail in the proverbial
coffin.

So, spread the word. There's still a great alternative for JFW that won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there, the more
users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for Office, be
sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a user-base
that is still growing.

Printing Envelopes

2016-10-16 Thread Barbara via Talk
Hi Everyone,

I have been struggling printing envelopes for a while. I do not need to
perform this task often, maybe 15-20 times a year.

I have Windows 7, Office 2013, and Window-Eyes 9.5.3.

When I use the mail tab inWord, it is hard to get the envelopes dialogue to
appear. Once it does appear, the mailing address field does not work right.
I can paste an address, but cannot review it. I had called AI Squared in
the past on this and they said it was an issue with Office, they could not
fix. Sometimes I get it to work and other times I do not.

Here is my question, is there a free or very inexpensive program which will
allow me to print envelopes? I want to be able to print different size
envelopes. My Canon printer has an envelope slot and can accommodate
different size envelopes.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Barbara

haven't a clue. If you have a search box like windows 7, you might find

So, like, you guys have pretty much already
decided that window-eyes is dead and gone, even before an official
announcement has even been made? I love your optomism.

 with attitudes like

this, no wonder people are convinced it's going away. oh, but yeah,
just sit back, and don't do anything. Great attitudes y'all.

Re: window eyes on 1 gb of ram and 1 ghz processor

2016-10-16 Thread David via Talk
Win-Eyes has for long been recommended nothing under 2GB of RAM. I have
been using Win7 Home Edition on a netbook with 1.3GHZ and 2GB RAM, and
it is doable, though not exactly the speed you want for everyday usage.
Yet changing the Hard Disk with an SSD, might be one way to speed up things.

Still, a CPU much under 1.6GHZ, is not adviceable in my opinion - at
least if this is meant to be your primary workstation. And in general,
these days, the more RAM, the better.

Hi:

I can say, having been through a "merger" which really was an
acquisition,
there are things that take time to sort out. Many times, these
things are

done just to get the customer base of the company that was a competitor.

One of my friends who was in a company that was acquired, told me how
the
employees of the acquiring company were under strict orders not to
talk to
employees of the company they were acquiring. This was, at least
partially,
due to the fact that the acquiring company was not unionized, whereas
the

company being acquired had been unionized.

Now, we can tell some communication is going on, but, at what level, and
with whom, we do not know.

At any rate, these things are usually not pleasant to go through,
especially
when you are part of the company being acquired by a larger one. And,
it is
possible that any AI Squared employees monitoring this list may,
themselves,
not be totally aware of what is being talked about at a higher
level. Those
still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone,
but, may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect. If this is the
case,

ranthing about the unfairness of it all on this list may only be seen by
folks just as worried as you are, maybe more.

Like others, I feel the best thing is to try our best to let VFO
management

know how we feel.

Also, just remember, Window-Eyes has not gone away, yet. You can still
download the WE For Office version, and, updates are still being
delivered.
I suspect there are Lease-To-Own customers to think about. Also, can
they
just pull the product without giving advanced notice to MicroSoft,
since, I

am sure, some kind of contract had to be entered into with MicroSoft?

There are so many things we just do not know.

And, think about this: Any decline in the Window-Eyes user-base,
because of
negative talk will probably end up putting the final nail in the
proverbial

coffin.

So, spread the word. There's still a great alternative for JFW that
won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there,
the more
users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for
Office, be
sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a
user-base

that is still growing.

Disabling is sufficient, but if you really want to get rid of Flash in
Firefox, you have to completely uninstall it. You can do this from
add/remove programs in Windows. Adobe also makes an installer available;
information on downloading the uninstaller can be found here:

Thanks very much, Don. Easy fix, and working way better.

One follow-up question: I noticed that, by default, the option in Firefox
Enhanced to include Flash content in browse mode was turned off. I know, in
the past, including this content in browse mode used to cause problems. Is
there any reason I should leave that turned off now? Have those problems
been addressed (or just gone away with Firefox's built-in Flash support)?
Seems like turning it on would give me a richer experience in browse mode if
it doesn't break things.

Re: th all audio enthusiaths, what editor you use with window eyes?

2016-10-16 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Drew,

Below is a link to the App central page where you can download the app I
wrote for Sound Forge Pro 11. It gives you control of the main data
window, i.e. hot keys to speak file length, current position, selection
points and length, and read and reset the peak meters. Up/Down will
speak the zoom ratio, S, which toggles selections speaks the status, and
process completion notifications are voiced.

There is also real-time previewing while navigating when the file isn't
playing. But this goes against the grain so to speak. So please read the
help file to see what I'm talking about. Open the Window-Eyes control
panel, Alt-A Apps, S Sound Forge Pro 11, Help.

I've also scripted several of the processor windows so that everything
will talk when you tab around and change values. These include the
parametric and paragraphic equalizers, the hammerfall compressor and
limiter, normalizer. noise gate. noise reduction. audio restoration,
mix/replace, click and crackle removal, pitch shift, time stretch, and
volume.

Who knows. Probably someone with a virus. I reported it to GW yesterday

Re: Contacting VFO Regarding Window-Eyes

2016-10-16 Thread Bryan Peterson via Talk
Yup it is. I bought my copy on the LTO plan from 2007 to 2009 and haven't
looked back.

I do believe the LTO program is gone now, it's been replaced by the free
version for users of Microsoft office.

This was, at least
partially,

due to the fact that the acquiring company was not unionized, whereas the
company being acquired had been unionized.

Now, we can tell some communication is going on, but, at what level, and
with whom, we do not know.

At any rate, these things are usually not pleasant to go through,
especially
when you are part of the company being acquired by a larger one. And, it
is
possible that any AI Squared employees monitoring this list may,
themselves,
not be totally aware of what is being talked about at a higher level.
Those

still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone, but, may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect.

Also, can they
just pull the product without giving advanced notice to MicroSoft, since,
I

am sure, some kind of contract had to be entered into with MicroSoft?

There are so many things we just do not know.

And, think about this: Any decline in the Window-Eyes user-base, because
of
negative talk will probably end up putting the final nail in the
proverbial

coffin.

So, spread the word. There's still a great alternative for JFW that won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there, the
more

users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for Office, be
sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a user-base
that is still growing.

Yep, as far as i know the free Window-eyes is still available. Also, there
may be legalities. The AI squared staff are most likely, not at liberty
to

speak about anything official since a. they may have a contract which says
they can't speak about it, or b. they don't know anything themselves,
which

makes this whole conversation null and void.
I know people want answers now, it'd be amazing news if we all got our
answer today. but, we aren't going to, so sit back, relax and enjoy
Window-eyes for as long as is humanly possible.

True. I would have hoped to hear at least something official by now,
although I do still hope that at least the free Office version of WE
will continue to remain available.

Sorry to hear you're having such problems, Tom. I don't know what to

others, and I've never heard of anyone having a problem.

Hope you can get it straightened out.

Wow, how many more of our friendly helpers are left in the auction block?

Marc Solomon, gone! Dan Weirich, retired; Jeremy Curry, gone! Looks like
Aaron Smith might be next?

And when the battle is over, where's the new crown for Window-Eyes? Guess
one won't be found in Fort Wayne or Jerusalem, but in Saint Petersburg!

Jeremy, thanks for your invaluable services! I hope that somehow, those of
us whom you have helped through the ages will be able to stay in touch.
Fondest regards to your family, and the Good Lord bless and keep you as you
go.
