Inbox-Known is a special inbox, with a hard coded filter in the sorting office. The Known-filter is able to check whether senders are in (a selected part of) your address book. Those recipients are filtered into inbox-known. It's a filter to have an inbox with mail that isn't spam for certain. But you can adept it to a filter (just selecting only a few groups) that puts mail from important contacts into the known-inbox, so you could have mail with a high and low priority. Take care though, that the known-filter is the last one in your incoming mail filters, so that it doesn't interfere with your other filters. And I am always astonished as to why people asking for a newsgroup just don't get ahead and create one. then tell us on the lists, make it known through other channels - there are lots of people using TB! not being on any TBML - and see what happens. Any interest in this? Not really. I already do read all messages - well, some of them only get skimmed -, and I always find interesting ideas (not necessarily TB! related) within threads I wouldn't touch if I'd only see the header. Filter required to download only mail from originators in addressbook.
Hi folks, As a new comer to Bat, I am making very little progress in configuring it to filter my email. Ideally, I would like to configure it to download only the headers of email on my dial-up ISP's server, then to check the downloaded headers against originators in my address book and finally, to download the full text of those emails that that match and place them in a separate folder before notifying me to log off. The headers that are left will be 99% spam and after a quick glance through to check for legitimate mail, can be dealt with manually. TB!'s editor has some text reflowing capabilities that you'll only find in highly specialised text editors (certainly not in any other Windows e-mail client's editor). It shows you the exact formatting that the recipient will receive when they get your message, something that most other Windows clients fall woefully short on. There are also some other very nifty capabilities like column vs stream vs linear text selection modes, the ability to indent whole text blocks and paste text indented. I find myself firing up SmartBat for these abilities needed outside the context of e-mail. :-) I'm not saying that TB!'s editor is perfect either, but there's a lot to it that isn't initially appreciated. - -- -=Allie C Martin=- List Moderator | TB! v1.60m | Windows XP Pro PGP/GPG Public Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=2B0717E2 _ -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- iD8DBQE864LJV8nrYCsHF+IRAuF2AJ4i2CYPgGVWceoBSE4eVkuHfWL6sACg8SEb nRZ3gUZWqlMRCDcB9hcA5ag= =EhQC -END PGP SIGNATURE- Current Ver: 1.60m FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bug Reports: https://bt.ritlabs.com

And as it is just going to be a duplicate (or another method of viewing/posting) of the current list... the existing moderators have no extra work to do. JA I can understand that sometimes people post slightly different on JA news groups, Yes. This is why I generally don't like them and have since stopped. You yourself may end up posting differently. When I say cross-post, I don't mean two JA individual addresses specified, I mean the mailing list JA software/news server software passing the messages between each JA other, no end user interaction on that part. These lists are unmoderated, I assume. No... they can be moderated by the list moderator, or a dedicated newsgroup moderator (which would make either the list moderator redundant, or the newsgroup moderator pointless). I do prefer an e-mail based list. TB! already has the capability to thread messages so reading isn't a problem. The readers can participate using TB!. In fact, the only problem is bandwidth, but I think the advantages outweigh this disadvantage. I do agree. I can understand why people can see a newsgroup being a good idea, if they suffer bandwidth limitations, or even time limitations. One big disadvantage for me would be that I'd have to check the news server regularly and I'd have to put up with Gravity if I wanted to prevent this. Argh! Don't forget that participants would have to find a news reader and learn how to use it when they're already learning to use TB!. It just seems wrong to put TB! aside to read a discussion list about it. Understood. I can see the ideas of not using TB! to read about TB!... kind of defeats the whole purpose of TB! in general. While I doubt that I'd be gone if a newsgroup were to be started, I don't particularly agree with it though it's a free world of course and anyone who wishes to start a news group can do so as was done with these groups. :-) As my original idea said... it'd not replace the mail list... in fact it'll just be the mail list, but passed onto a news server. Any posts that hit the lists, get dropped into the news server, and any news postings get posted back to the list. There'd be no change in bandwidth usage for list owner (after all, it acts just like another email address), and the news server will sustain the same amount of data as the list. I'd be happy to look into it *only* if there is enough interest in the idea... and based on what a lot of you guys seem to be saying, there appears to be very little interest in it. I'm looking into a similar system for the company I work for, we'll be setting up our help list into a news server, while maintaining the mail list. Storing Sent Mail
Hi, I've been using The Bat! for a couple of days now, and very impressive it is too! However there is one feature from my (now ex) favorite mail client, VA, that I'm missing. VA would store an outgoing reply in the same folder as the original message. This meant that the conversation threads nicely for you. However, The Bat! will insist on storing outgoing mail in Sent Mail. As a big mail threading fan I don't like this much. What I would like is for any replies to be placed in the folder that contains the original. Why not use filters I hear you cry? Well, for some of my mail I have done this by moving outgoing messages to the Inbox, and letting my incoming rules sort the mail. Unfortunately some of my mail has to be sorted by hand, so any replies will sit in my Inbox until I manually sort those as well. Anybody know how I might achieve this, with filters or options I might have missed? I did a quick search of the list archives but found nothing (apologies if I've just missed them). With IMAP you need to do the processing on the server and the only thing you need a mua for is to access the processed mail and some manual operations. Re: Storing Sent Mail
Jan, By default TB! sends msgs to Sent Mail but you might also have TB! filter your sent mail for headers send them back to their original folders. Dispatch matched mail on server?
Hi, I'm trying to make a filter, so that if mail is sent to a certain alias, it downloads the mail, and deletes it from the server, while leaving the rest of the mail on the server. Roelof, I realize of course that without some coding 'Graeme J Hosking (aa12)' you're soon out of options, but it'll work both ways. Could a message header not be created by a template that contains a unique code for each folder? I've looked through the macros a little and there does not seem to be an obvious (to me, that is) way of adding custom headers in a template. Changing Account Parameters Quickly
I frequently change my account parameters because I often use SSH as my l4 tunnel to retrieve email and effect intranet access. I find it, however, cumbersome to have to go into my account properties to change the account parameters for several accounts everytime. Needless to say, I am interested in figuring a way to do this a little more seamlessly which leads me to the question: Is there a file I can manipulate to make this change quickly? Or can I set the parameters and name that config file normal and then change the account settings and then rename the config file to on-ssh, so everytime I want to change settings I can just run a batch file to copy one of the two files to the config file? Sorting and Navigation Issues
Hello TheBatUsers, As a new user to TB, I'm having a time trying to figure out how sorting and navigation work together. For example, I like to view messages by subject, but in a creation date/time ascending order. If I sort by subject in a folder, the creation date/times are in mixed order by their creation date/time. This creates havoc when reading thru a thread of messages with the same subject. What would really be nice is if we had the ability to do a sort on a second-level column, like Outlook allows. For example, I could then do a primary sort by subject, then a secondary sort by created date (ascending or descending). Is this already possible in TB and I'm just not seeing how to do it? Before anyone yells use Threading by reference!, I have and find it even more frustrating. Deleting a message or navigating to next or previous message using the toolbar buttons or shortcut keys seem to be an almost random experience. Messages in unrelated threads open. Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just me? Another thing that would be nice is if when opening a message in a separate viewing window that window could then inherit the same display/sorting/threading views as the message list window. Any thoughts on that? In all, I'm finding TB to be a very good email client, but as someone mentioned in another post, it takes awhile for the new user to get used to its power and flexibility. There is a big learning curve and this list does a great job to supplement the marginal documentation.
