Colour Groups and Memo limitations
Hello all, A few days ago there was a thread about Colour Groups. Someone asked for possible uses of them and got many replies and, IIRC, most of them were quite satisfied with what they could do with Colour Groups. I do use C.G. quite a bit but I am not 100% satisfied, I'll explain why. For me, the most important thing about C.G. are not the colours and fonts that you can assign, which are nice, but the fact the you can assign an attribute or category to messages and that these categories can be tested and/or set from filters. I use this quite a bit. Why I am not 100% satisfied then? Because I can ONLY assign a message to ONE group. If I define a number of groups A, B, C, etc., that are not mutually exclusive (for example For_Reply and For_Reference) why can't I assign a message to more than one group? Trying to look for a workaround for this limitation I thought about using the Memo field. I can use some Keywords or characters to define different categories and I can include as many of them as I wish in the Memo. Great! Well, not really. It serves some purpose because I can certainly Tools-Search the Memo field, but there is no way it can be tested/set from filters :-( Has anybody else found this to be a limitation of Colour Groups? Has anybody found a workaround? BTW, I think there is an inconsistency in the Search Tool. As I have said, you can search the Memo field but ONLY if you tick Memo in the Scope. If you tick Anywhere only, the Memo is not searched. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Missing folders
Hi Batters!, I have been trying to upgrade my computer system, and I have found that carrying on the Bat is rather complicated, at least for me. I followed the procedure described in the FAQ page, but probably did some mistake. First I upgraded from win98 to win2k in a 2G disk, reformatting the HD. I succeeded. But then I bought a new computer with a 20G disk, and the installation in this machine has not been fully successful. I have 3 accounts. The 2 secondary accounts whose mail files are located in subdirectories with more than 700 messages have been transferred OK. This includes the present account with the Bat folder. But I have been unable to transfer correctly the main account. The new install has only the 5 basic folders( In, out, in known, sent and trash), but the other created folders with their messages have disappeared. Is there a simple method to recover the folders and messages in this folder, or should I better start it all over. Searching former postings I realize that it may be tricky. Any advise would be appreciated. -- Greetings, Joan Josep Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

ACM Are the different senders using the same clients? I've had the same problem as Mark for a long time, with varying versions of TB! I sent email to the list back in April, and nobody had any clues then. The attitude seemed to be well it doesn't happen to me, so I guess it must be a problem on your end. Luckily, other people are starting the experience the attachment corruption issue, so maybe it will get resolved. Allie, it shouldn't matter what client the senders are using. The points are this: - The mail is being received and stored properly by TB! (otherwise, you would not be able to forward it to another user and have them be able to read the attachment correctly. If it was network errors, ISP related, or a problem with how TB! stores messages, forwarding the message would result in the forwarded copy being unreadable by the new recipient, which is NOT the case. The attachments which are corrupt for me in TB! can always be forwarded to a non-TB! user and be perfectly readable). - This leads me to believe there are issues with how TB! decodes attachments, such that under certain circumstances (which are yet to be determined), attachments are corrupted. - In any event, TB! should never corrupt an attachment, regardless of what MUA is used. I have sent zip'd versions of a TB! folder that contains corrupt attachments to other TB! users, including Thomas F., a frequent participant on this list, and they have verified that indeed, the attachments are corrupt for them when they open the folder... yet forwarding that same message to a non-TB! user results in a perfectly readable message. The key now is to get the authors to look at why these attachments are being corrupted when they are opened by TB!, and get a fix into the next version!
