Moving to previous message

2002-12-01 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

I use view messages by reference and have mark message as read
after 3 seconds. Sometimes I read a message and find I want to go
back to it but can't find a keystroke to move back through recent
messages that I have looked at. It's not the same as CTRL [ because
that only moves to the previous *unread* message.

I think I am probably going to have to spend time trying different
ways of using TB!

Delete all messages on server

2002-12-01 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hello TBUDL,

my DUN connection is not so perfect, so it breaks (latest after 20
minutes, sometimes earlier) after some messages but oftentimes not all
messages are downloaded.

In order to avoid double-downloads, I leave messages on server for one
day. This is necessary as otherwise TB downloads already downloaded
messages again, due to a bug in the UIDL keeping (if this bug has been
fixed, please let me know).

Now it sometimes happens with one of my accounts that it gets pretty
full within one day (10MB limit), and I need to delete the messages
that are still on the server, after I have downloaded them. What I do
is I use the despatcher, click on delete for each message, and then
hit the colourful execute circle.

This works well, but at several hundred messages it is tedious work. I
have not found a way to get the tickbox delete marked with a
keystroke rather than the mouse, and to then move to the next message
(also with a keystroke). Keystrokes would help me, they are much more
convenient, so if there are any, kindly let me know.

What I am really looking for is an option to delete all messages on
server. Does this exist somewhere?

TF You mean in the message list, right?

No, I mean in the composition window.

TF Options / Message List Colours Font / Font / Size

But this is a help, also. I went there and increased the size and
quality to 12 pt. bold. Very much easier. Contrast is almost as much a
limitation for me as size.

I have chosen the best color settings I can, from the right-click
Desktop option in winXP. And I put the resolution down one setting.
This helps in TB as well as other places. And I chose 14 pt. bold for
the body of messages in TB. This on my 17.1 in. screen is a pure joy,
compared to what I was using before.

I don't know what is the correct term for the To, CC, and Subject
fields in the composition (Reply or New Mail) window. Is it headers?

If so, that is still what I lack a means to change.

Thanks, Thomas.

The spacebar will work to tick the box, but unfortunately if you move
down to the next message using the down arrow, [Spacebar] works on the
first ticked box, so if Read is ticked, then [spacebar] will untick
this and not Delete.

What I am really looking for is an option to delete all messages on
 server. Does this exist somewhere?

Ctrl+3 (1 for Read, 2 for Receive, 3 for Delete and 4 for Open) in the
Dispatcher window marks all messages for deletion. It works as a
toggle, so you can turn off in the same way, but it also means that it
will untick all ticked boxes and tick unticked boxes at the same time.

Shift+3 will untick all ticked messages, but this is not a toggle, so
you cannot turn the ticks on in the same way. It is good if you have
some messages ticked - Shift+2 will untick them all, and Ctrl+2 will
then tick them all.

For quick deletion Ctrl+2 to untick Receive, and then F2 to
execute the dispatch (delete the messages)

So the filter you could use is:

Although not exactly what you want it will do the same, especially if
before this filter you have all your oher filter and the Known filter

 Hope this helps.

What about this suggestion:

Create a catch-all incoming mail filter as your first filter, make it
move message from the inbox to the inbox and let processing continue
with other filters. In the options for this filter mark Delete this
message from the server.

This way, every message which was downloaded successfully (and thus
triggers this filter) will be deleted from the server the next time you
check for your mail. All others still remain on the server for the time
you specified in the account properties.

This should more or less automate deleting downloaded mail from the

MAU Yes, please do. Thanks.

Hmm, it turns out that PowerPro is even more intimidating when you

would never end...

But once i got past the initial setup wizard (which was crap IMO) - it
all made sense...

So yes, after initial testing, I got a macro to do what i wanted...

The ignore thread filter is my third in my incoming filter list, it
adds what is currently selected to the a new alternative set,
searching in kludges.

Under the Key/Mouse tab in PowerPro

Blank for all windows: The Bat!, View Folder*

Enter command: *Keys

Enter keys to send: ^c{ctrl}{shift}s

Enter more commands with button:

*Wait active Sorting Office*
*Keys
{right}{down}{down}{down}{tab}{right}%a^v{alt}{right}{alt}{right}{left}{left}{left}{left}{alt}{down}{alt}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{enter}{alt}c

The amount of {down} in the last *Keys line is in direct relationship
to the number filter it is, in my case, the 3rd... if that makes
sense...

looks bloody confusing i know, but after trial and error this is what
i came up with :)

And it works! - so thanks for the tip...

Hello,

I installed Opera for a trial run, then un-installed the program.

One would have thought that would be the end of the subject. Not
so, now when I click on a HTTP:URL ie: www.anywhere.com The Bat

box where I could locate the Opera program.

Thinking if I just put back in the IE exe program, that all would
be well was a mistake. I now click on a url IE will open with no
follow through. I tried using FAQ, I couldn't find anything
specific to this. There is nothing in the program HELP files
 itself relating to URL .

Has anyone run into this before. I tried to look in the registry
for any opera commands, nothing. I looked in IE and made OE the
mail reader of choice, rebooted. Then went back and changed the
Mail to TheBat! again. Rebooted. Nothing.

 Any suggestion welcomed:)

Yes, it will. If a filter is set to delete messages from the server, it
will only do so during the next mail check after the filter was
triggered (I just tested this, just to be sure).

If I understand Thomas correctly, his line isn't dropped every time he
fetches his mail. So the deletion would eventually take place without
user intervention.

PP RFC states DELE should be _real_ executed (on servers
PP side) after QUIT was submitted, because before a client could still
PP send 'RSET' which (a.o.) 'undeletes'.

OK, I knew that already. But I assumed that -- having downloaded most of
the mails already -- Thomas' connection wouldn't reach the 20 minutes
limit during a subsequent mail check and therefore *would* delete the
messages when the connection is closed correctly.

Allie Martin may be a good source to call upon, as he uses NOD32 as his

Allie, over to you? LOL ;-)

The one thing that did bug me about NOD32 with the TB! plug-in was when
it scanned mails, it would take away focus of what you were working on,
and therefore require you to re-select it before continuing. Only minor
really, but still frustrating all the same.

As for cost, I think it was 25 Euro's.

A quick look at http://www.xe.com/, and you can find out that cost in
your local currency.

Sorry for the lack of comparison, but it wouldn't be fair too and hope
Allie can from a better position. Oh, one key thing I do like about
DrWeb though is the fact it scans compressed files before execution,
which was something I wanted.

Did you already download it on your pc, or is it the act of
downloading the e-mail that triggers the AV-program?

In case it's the downloading, than use the mail dispatcher to select
and delete the bad mail on the server:
Account - Dispatch mail on server - All messages

When it's already in your inbox and it's the viewing of the mail that
causes problems:
 Disable your AV program
 Start TB
Delete the infected mail (TB won't start the virus, unless you
specifically tell it to open the the attachment)
Compress your inbox (Folder - Copmpress)
 Start your AV program

This second path can be used in case the mail isn't downloaded yet,
but the dispatcher is the safer way.

BTW Both of your messages I read just now were replies to other
messages. That's not the best way on this list and this is the reason:

The Bat is able to thread messages properly, in order to see what I
mean, just select the folder where you're storing the messages from
this list. Go to the menu: view - view threads by - references. Now
you'll see that all messages are lined up after the message to which
they're first, second (or whatever) level replies to.

You started what's essentially a new thread by replying to another
message. That means it shows up as listed in another thread. Since
people sometimes skip messages in threads they don't consider
interesting (for lack of time). They might skip your message too,
since they're not aware of the newly started thread. So next time
you'd do yourself a favor by sending a new message in stead of a
reply, because you're reaching a larger audience and one of those
might have the answer you've been waiting for.

Fonts in Move Message to Folder box

2002-12-01 Thread Mary Bull
Hello tbudl listers,

With a little help from several of you, I have all my fonts
enlarged to 12 or 14 pt bold (note aside, to Miguel, not
bald :) ) including message pane and headers and folder tree
and message list--except: boxes such as Move Message to
Folder. Can anyone tell me where those choices are hidden?

I found the Folder Tree choices all by myself, after Miguel
told me where to find the Message Pane font changes, in
Options/EditorPreferences/Display/font, Change button.
(Patting myself on the back. :) )

But I'm now stymied by the 8 pt font in Move Message to
Folder. Help?

Mary

Re: Bat illegal operation

2002-12-01 Thread Peter Evans
Roelof,

You've enabled to view the html part of messages automatically. Turn
that off. (That won't mean you can't see it, but to see the html-part
you'll have to click the html-tab first.)
You can change this setting here:
Options - Preferences - General - uncheck: 'Display html part of
messages automatically'

This was the clue to enable me to resolve the problem. Thank you.

Unfortunately I could not get to do what you suggested because by running
the Bat it abended...

What I did was to ::-
1) rename Account directory on disk [I have two accounts]
2) run the Bat. It now runs because the problem message is not there.
3) change settings as you suggest
4) rename Account directory on disk to what it was originally

Re: Bat illegal operation

2002-12-01 Thread Peter Evans
Scott,

This sounds more like an IE error to me. If you have an icon on the
left of your screen for the attached html message, try saving it to your
hard
drive somewhere and double clicking on it to take TB! clear out of
the loop. See if you still get the same error. If you still do then
it most likely is an IE problem and not TB...

I followed your advice. IE does not abend. This means that the problem is
clearly with The Bat.

In a previous message on another topic I said that The Bat is unable to
handle some HTML that other mail program handle. This has been proven by I
receiving the same message that my friends have - their mail programs have
not crashed, nor have they brought down the whole operating system.

I looked at the message with a hex viewer. The message commences with a
Carriage Return followed by a Line Feed. The human readable text then
follows, commencing byte 3.

Unfortunately The Bat does not have good error recovery routines.

Re: Neverending loop

2002-12-01 Thread Peter Evans
Roelof,

Did you already download it on your pc, or is it the act of
downloading the e-mail that triggers the AV-program?

Sorry, I will have to change my abbreviations to suit this List.
By AV I meant ::-
   AV = Access Violation

By AV you mean
  AV = Anti Virus

I didn't have my Anti Virus program running. I had disabled it so that that
could not be the cause of the problem.

BTW Both of your messages I read just now were replies to other
messages. That's not the best way on this list and this is the reason:

I won't do that again.

anyway, this is what I use to add the clipboard contents to a new set

%a^v%{right}%{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{enter}%c

which adds a net set, pastes the clipboard, changes location to

PE How do I delete this message so that I am not in a 'Neverending loop'?

Try starting The Bat! with an appropriate command line parameter to
change the folder at startup.

Change the link you use to start The Bat! for it containing something
like this:

thebat.exe /focusu=joe;f=outbox

replace 'joe' with the name of one of your accounts. Keep the quotes.

Now disable Preview (View / Message Auto view or
Ctrl+Shift+E) and you should be able to delete the message.

have the try to clean first box checked, just the display a warning

executed, thanks to TB) and I go in and delete it by hand. My guess is
that probably if I did go ahead and let NOD32 try to clean the virus
out of the temp folder it would indeed mess things up for TB. Since it
works for me now just the way I want it to I'm not about to change

PP No. Sadly it wont. The Delete from server would issue the 'DELE'

PP DELE commands.

Yes, it will. If a filter is set to delete messages from the server, it
will only do so during the next mail check after the filter was
triggered (I just tested this, just to be sure).

If the line is dropped again at the next mail check, will TB remember
to issue this command every time again, until the message is
successfully deleted from the server?

If I understand Thomas correctly, his line isn't dropped every time he
 fetches his mail.

Once I have downloaded all mails, the next check would go without
problems, i.e. the connection finished by TB's issuing the QUIT
command. At this moment, this is still a few MB (read: 2 or 3
mailcheck sessions) away for today.

OK, I knew that already. But I assumed that -- having downloaded most of
the mails already -- Thomas' connection wouldn't reach the 20 minutes
limit during a subsequent mail check and therefore *would* delete the
messages when the connection is closed correctly.

Yes, but usually not during the mail session immediately following the
one in which the mail was deleted then.

I am not aware of customisable fonts for pop-up boxes.

However, you might want to consider a third-party software that
magnifies *all* Windows fonts across all applications. This is used by
people who have difficulties reading the small standard fonts. I
forgot the name of a program that does this (got this info from an ML

They do seem a bit hidden. But you do know you can just drag messages
to any folder? Your mouse cursor turns into a white stop sign. And you
can drag whatever messages you've selected, to any part of the tree.

Hit ESCape if you change your mind before dropping.

My guess is most people keep manual moving to a minimum, and move
around mostly by filtering. I'd wonder though if some can get by
mostly without moving messages at all.
