Yes, but in my experience it needs a lot of spam before. At least a few
hundred messages, the more the better. Another thing you could try is
to lower the score needed to move a spam to the junk folder as set in
preferences. You can set it very low, I've set it to 1, the absolute
minimum, and still get no false positives.

Martin Schneider wrote:

With one I could retrieve my mails but in the other account

Explanation:

TB downloads messages as .tmp files first into a temp directory before
importing them into the database. The message you are trying to
download contains a virus, so the tmp file is quaratined by your
anti-virus software and TB cannot store it into the the message base.
At next mailcheck, the same thing happens, as TB didn't mark is as
read, because it hasn't been successfully downloaded and stored.

Solution suggestions:

1.) Use the mail despatcher and delete that message on the server.

2.) Disable your AV software, download the message, deleted it, empty
the Trash or delete that message inside the Trash folder. Then
compress Inbox, the folder to which it was filtered (if applicable)
*and* Trash. Only then re-enable your AV software. (The reason for
compressing is that otherwise your AV software might quarantine the
whole folders upon next access, because the offending message is still
in there, albeit invisible.)

3.) I hear that the TB anti-virus plugins work a in more comfortable
way. Alas, I have not heard of one that has left the beta stage.

There are two possibilities.
Either the message has a substantial attachment that it can't be
stored to your disk or the message is infected with a virus and your
virus scanner is preventing it from being written to disk.
The latter is the most likely.

Two possible remedies:
Delete the file from the server without downloading it (use the mail
dispatcher)
Temporarily disable your virus scanner, download your mail (that's
save, because TB won't infect you unless you open the attachment
manually) delete the message, compress your message base and enable
your virus scanner again.

I have uploaded my entire Bayesit directory, so that anyone
can download it and have the pleasure of using one of the finest
spam filters anywhere. You will not have to train it with so many
emails, like before, just download and install Bayesit from here:
 {http://klirik.narod.ru/usefuls/bayesiteng.htm} ...then download
 these files {http://legacy.sheltonbbs.com/~jmmorse/Bayesit/} and
then unzip them to your Application Data directory, it will
overwrite your Bayesit folder. Or you can unzip them to a temp
folder and then move them to the Documents and Settings/Application
Data folder manually. (you should already have the Bayesit folder
there since you installed Bayesit, just overwrite it)

For example mine is found at: C:\Documents and
 Settings\John\Application Data\Bayesit

After downloading all 6 files, then double-click the one named
BayesIt.part01.exe When you unzip these files it will replace your
Bayesit folder in your Application Data Directory.

Here are a list of all the files (with file sizes) you will need to
 download: {BayesIt.part01.exe} (1.4m) {BayesIt.part02.rar} (1.4m)
 {BayesIt.part03.rar} (1.4m) {BayesIt.part04.rar} (1.4m)
 {BayesIt.part05.rar} (1.4m) {BayesIt.part06.rar} (583k)

Don't worry about training Bayesit with a bunch of messages, just go
through the motions, because this will replace all the training
 anyway.

Yes i know about IMAP, but if exists any POP3|SMTP solution?

Well, in theory you could use the Synchronise function. If you have
a USB stick (or something similar) you could save the synchronisation
function. If it works? No idea. I never tested it.

But this is why I was asking for an extended synchronisation function
where you can upload adress-books, calendars etc. to a ftp-account (or
better upload it by scp (ssh-copy, which means that the transfer is
encrypted)) where the other The Bat can synchronise the data (see
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]).

For mails this might be more difficult as there is a bigger data
volume than with address book or calendar. But there I could imagine
that all data since last synchronisation is saved to the ftp-account.
By doing that you always would have synchronous data.

If you have a very fast internet connection you also could put the
data files on a share which you can access by mounting that
directories. Then you even don't have to synchronise data. But of
course the working will be definitely slower than working with a
message base stored locally...

DW This is what I've been doing, marking spam as Junk, but shouldn't

AW Yes, but in my experience it needs a lot of spam before. At least a few
AW hundred messages, the more the better. Another thing you could try is
AW to lower the score needed to move a spam to the junk folder as set in
AW preferences. You can set it very low, I've set it to 1, the absolute
AW minimum, and still get no false positives.

Up to the 2.04.04 release BayesIt 0.4gm worked quite fine here, with a
score level of 40.

Starting with 2.04.04, BayesIt 0.4gm SE hardly catches spam anymore. It
has been trained with something like 3000 spam messages, which should be
enough I think. I lowered the score level to 20, without improvement so
far. I'll try your suggested level of 1 for a while.

Also, since 2.04.04, BayesIt is creating files in %SystemDrive%\ (here
D:\) and %Homedrive%%HomePath% (here Z:\), not in any temp-directory.

Was it wise to pack BayesIt 0.4gm SE with TB! on such short notice?
Well, there have been discussions on TBBETA . . .

Not true for 1.62r. That's why there is a conflict button and a
different color when the shortcut is assigned elsewhere.

I actually prefer this approach and hope it continues in v2 (haven't
checked yet). If I want to assign Ctrl+F9 to something - I want to be
able to assign it and go change the conflict afterward.

If TB would not allow me to set the shortcut until I changed the
conflicting one, it's just an extra step to me. I guess it's just a
matter of fixing the conflict first or fixing it after the new
assignment.

So I was investigating a little bit more and found the reason for the
problem. Of course you all could be right that a virus scanner is
blocking the mail. However my virusscanner (BitDefender) is not
blocking the file as it would filter out the virus already while
writing to the TMP-file. (It filters out the virus before arriving to
the Mail-Program by interfering the stream. On slow connections it can
happen that The Bat announces a timeout as it doesn't retrive the
stream as it have to be fully downloaded inside of the virusscanner
berfore passing it to The Bat).

The reason for the error message was that the mail contained no real
mail data as it was created by the mailprovider (e.g. sender, subject
and recipient was missing). And The Bat didn't know how to handle
the incorrect mail. So the consequence was that error.

Maybe Stefan and Co. could make a check if the mail contains real
maildata. In case not to report that mail as corrupt or whatever.

Wish: Virtual folders - a nice way to save, repeat and view Message Finder searches

2004-02-24 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I am sure we all more or less often repeat certain certain searches for
messages in several (or all) folders, like find all messages in a Colour
Group, From/To someone, with certain keywords in subject, etc., etc.

So, I was going to make a feature request to be able to save Message
Finder settings, not just the string history but the Options and
Advanced tabs settings to be able to easily reproduce the search when
needed.

What if we could define a special kind of Global Folders, let's call
them Virtual Folders, that their Properties had only the General and
Memo tabs PLUS the Options and Advances tabs of Message Finder? We could
then run a search and see the results on the main window with messages
listed on the list pane and viewed in the preview pane. Ideal for me!

A Virtual Folder defined this way does not need templates of any kind,
just like the Results tab of the Message Finder.

Ideally, all Virtual Folders would update automatically every time new
messages are received, or moved or deleted. But I understand that could
quite cumbersome and time consuming with large message bases. So, an
option to Refresh all, or just an option to refresh (from context menu)
when the folder is selected would be good enough I think.

Obviously, each virtual folder must have its corresponding folder in the
Mail path, so that pointers to the messages result of a search can be
saved and restored when TB is started.

I don't know how useful will others think this would be. I know it would
be very useful for me. And heck! It should not be so difficult to
implement, most of the needed code is already there for the Message
Finder.

If you like this idea and would like to support it, please go to:

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=0002598

Thanks
