On that page, select the link for "Program interface" and then scroll
down about two thirds of the page (14 times on my screen), you get a
brief mention: "In the Shortcuts section you can check the shortcuts
set for certain program actions and specify your own shortcuts. You
can also remove shortcuts if needed."

And it is in the help file for my TB! version, although the menu route
listed to get there is incorrect.

Yes, it is changeable. These are the steps to do it:

1.- Open a text editor window (i.e. new message)
2.- Right click on the toolbar and select 'Customise'
3.- On the Customise window, on the the left of the Menu & Toolbar tab
(Containers) select Main menu.
4.- On the top left, select the Shortcuts tab. Main menu will now show
expanded.
5.- Expand 'Utilities' by clicking on the + on the left.
6.- Double click on 'Insert Quick Template' end the Shortcut Edit
window will open.
7.- Select Ctrl+Space a click on Remove button.
8.- On the right, where 'none' is shown, type your new desired
shortcut and hit the Add button. Confirm your new setting and then
click on the OK (or Cancel) button of Customiser

It *is* corrected, thank heavens. Thanks to the help from the guys in
the Czech Bat! list, I was given the suggestion to try the latest Beta
version, 4.2.10.12, and keyboard shortcuts editing works again. Hooray!

However, as to smileys, these still aren't displayed, despite identical

3.xx, which is the last time I ever saw smileys displayed here. (Admittedly,
a cosmetic issue compared to the keyboard shortcuts.)

It looks like this may have been caused by a conflict in versions, too.
Believe it or not, the smileys are *slowly* coming back. :-O I wouldn't
have thought this possible, but right now in *some* emails, the smileys
aren't displayed, and in other emails (like this one I'm currently composing),
they are displayed OK. Well... anyway... my warm recommendations to
everyone to upgrade to the 4.2.10.12 Beta version, as it seems to have
worked wonders on my computer, compared to the most recent regular

No Keyboard Shortcuts Customization, No Smilies After Upgrade

2009-10-04 Thread aam

Hello, I have just upgraded to the current version of The Bat, 4.2.10.1,
from 4.0.38. After upgrade, the following 2 main bugs occur:

* I can no longer edit keyboard shortcuts. If I attempt to do so and
confirm the change, the window immediately disappears and the change
is NOT saved. All shortcuts appear to be frozen from the 4.0.38 status.

* Smilies do not get displayed, even after activating them the rich-text
viewer.
They are present in the standard The Bat! directory in Program Files.

I will appreciate any help. Customizable keyboard shortcuts are essential
for me, and a show-stopper in case they aren't available in the new version.
I would need to downgrade. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Yes. This is now found in View/Toolbars/Customise

 ... The help file references
the menu item View-Edit shortcuts as do several emails
in the archives. However, I cannot seem to find this item. Does
 it still exist?

Some of the v. 3.xx Help file is now outmoded, although there are many
useful things in it that still work. For instance, the list of macros.

It may not be easy to find your way around the Customise dialogues. Be
sure to ask again here, if you don't figure out what to do.

I remember some discussion about it being different in V3.5, but I can't

View/Toolbars/Customise (or right clicking on any toolbar or menu). It
may seem a little awkward at first and you may not actually be able to
assign al shortcuts you had before. 'Customise' is not yet complete.

Under Available Items on the left side, find Message Controller and
then scroll down to mFolderViewMode. Try adding it to a new menu and
then setting a shortcut to it. You should be able to then hide the new

Anything you found would not be accurate at present. Most, or at least

Hello tbudl,

I know everybody's off testing the bugs in the new version, but I'm

Collapse Thread (i.e. completely collapse the current thread)

An old shortcut list I have says it's ctrl-* but that does not work

which is the shortcut for open thread...

And I can't find the item Collapse Thread in the customiser. Anybody
knows where it hides?

How would it be to have a quick search field in customiser so
I can search for Shortcuts or functions/items by namecl? I never know if I need
to search a certain function under MsgCtl or meEdit because I

Keyboard shortcuts bug: Show Header Pane in Folder View

2004-02-29 Thread aam
Hello The Bat! developers,

I'm using The Bat! Version 2.04.4
  Serial Number B8EEA39B
under Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

Even after you change the keyboard shortcut for displaying the Message
Header Pane in Folder View from the default CTRL+SHIFT+H to whatever
(I wanted it to be CTRL+H), this shortcut always returns to the
default CTRL+SHIFT+H after you close and re-open this particular or
any other Folder View. The same happens after program re-start.

The bug does not apply to The Bat!'s main window where it is possible
to change the default CTRL+SHIFT+H to whatever.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

Open any message in Folder View. Try to change the keyboard shortcut for
Main Menu -- View -- Message Header -- Show. This is possible and
the new keyboard shortcut works, but only until you close that
particular Folder View. After that the keyboard shortcut is back to
default.

It's possible to modify other keyboard shortcuts in Folder View, but
this particular one with Show-Header-Pane (CTRL+SHIFT+H) appears
un-modifiable.

F12 doesn't do anything here. However, what you want to do is create a
catch-all filter (for example testing for presence of @ in kludges),
make it manual, and assign a hotkey to that filter.

also to change the view mode for a folder (currently have to go

Why do you need to change the view?

It's still here, under View (for some reason) / Edit shortcuts.

I don't mean the keyboard shortcuts editor itself, but a section in it
that used to be called, in 1.6x, something like Attachments Pane
PopUp, and there you could modify shortcuts for actions such as Open
This Attachment, Save All Attachments etc.

This is what my keyboard shortcuts editor looks like in Version 2.0's
main window:
http://avenarius.sk/misc/keyboard_shortcuts.gif
If you can help me where, in this editor, to find the option, for
example, to switch the shortcuts for Open and Save attachments
(I'd like to have ENTER and CTRL+ENTER the other way round for the two
actions -- it was possible to switch them in 1.6x), I'd be grateful.

And you're right, the location of that editor under View menu is
illogical. It should perhaps be located in the recently introduced
centralized Preferences dialog, even though The Bat! is devious in
that the same keyboard shortcut performs a different action depending
on where you currently are (writing a message, reading a message,
performing a search, or simply in the main window).

That is another *wonderful* aspect of TB. Still, all of these
variables could be brought together in the centralized Preferences
window. I mean, since the Preferences window features two sets of
preferences for two various TB editors, why couldn't the same window
feature four or five sets of preferences for keyboard shortcuts for
each of TB's working environments? The four or five environments could
be hidden under a common heading such as Keyboard Shortcuts
Remapping and could be unpacked using the customary + sign/key so
that they wouldn't clutter the Preferences window.

rename it so that you can get it back if it kills TB). Exit TB

As you're using 1.54 beta, go to View-Edit shortcuts, and define a
shortcut for Main Menu-View-Display-Unread only (and you'll
probably want to change the Display-All shortcut, too, as it
conflicts with Expand whole thread shortcut)

Keyboard shortcuts

Hello,

I am looking at the file on the FAQs page for keyboard shortcuts for
version 1.52f. Some of these seem to work with version 1.53d which I
am using, but others don't.

Is there an updated shortcut list anywhere for the latest versions or
is it just me that some of them refuse to work for?

Many thanks,

Carren

Keyboard shortcuts

Hello TBUDL Members!

Just to remind us: We definitely, urgently need a compiled list of
  all keyboard shortcuts within TB!.

I just tried to send mail from all accounts by hitting
Ctrl+Shift+F2 and only got a mail check for the active
account. When I searched the menus - first I only looked in the
  Account menu - I found

  a) Shift+F2 for sending mail (in Account menu) as I knew
  b) Shift+Alt+F2 for sending mail from all accounts (in
  Tools menu)

This is neither very logical nor easy to find. It was pure hard
headedness on my side that I looked further than in the Account
  menu.

BTW, I don't find it very logical either to find keyboard shortcuts
in the menus regardless of the application. when I am as far as
having touched the mouse to go to the menu I don't need the shortcut
anymore, I just use the menu item.

1. Had a look at the version it is for?

2. Not quite. I am strongly convinced that such a list belongs into
the programme itself - either in the Help file or (better still) as
its own list directly accessible through a menu or shortcut.

No problem here. for once the implementation of MS Word is not that

People may prefer proportional fonts for aesthetical reason (which,
