 Sorry for the delayed response.

Good idea to have a Board. However, we need to have the frame work on
Decision board before we should we constitute a board.

 Couple of thoughts.

 1. Primarily, we need to have the vision and the activities /projects
which we are doing and going to do in future.
 2. The volunters who are interested, have been actively working on some
projects/activities should be involved in the board. Hope there is no
limitations on no of people on Decision Board.
3 No. of schools we have adopted and the activities which we have
conducted as of now and the expenditure incurred towards that. This is very
important for us to know our capability and to get the continuous 80G
benefit as well. This will also help us to have the kind of work/activities
which we need to do in future and to know our capability
management/bandwidth. We need to have an Audit on same as well.
 4. We have been sponcering the students for their education for quite some
time. We need to have complete details on same.
 5. Any other activities which we have been conducting.

If possible we need to have the presentation and publish entire TMAD folks.

[tomakeadifference] ] Mehdipatnam School class room construction

2010-08-02 Thread harinath
Hi, here is the update.

As the SSA engineer was not responding properly and the contractor who has
done work till now is absconding from me, I met district collector
yesterday. He spoke with S.E Mr. Bhojaraju and asked him to close it soon.

Later i went to SSA office as they were calling me. SSA engineers now
suggest to get the work done by another contractor but they are asking us to
pay for the material cost for now. They say we debit the amount once SSA
releases fund after work completion.

The amount they are asking us to pay to new contractor is 20k. Actually work
may cost around 30 to 50k. I am not sure of the actuals. They are suggesting
to record the present work so that we do not pay extra to the new
contractor.

But on the other side, we have already incurred additional cost with the
condition that we get it adjusted from the SSA funds.

for the people who do not hv enough background, we got one installment
payment from SSA around 1.4 lakh that we already paid to the contractor who
has done the work till now.

If members agree to proceed further to pay 20k to another contractor for the
remaining work, we can proceed further.

Please share your inputs. No criticism please, these guys(SSA engineers and
the contractors) are real rogues and its been getting delayed because of
them. I am just trying to see completion ASAP (1 or 2 weeks max) but again
it depends.

Thanks, Harinath

 Hi Friends,

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. We will take your suggestions
as guidelines and proceed. I feel giving small gifts in the competitions
 will improve children’s competitive spirit.

Anil garu, it is really good idea to gift them seedlings and ask them to
plant and take care. We will try to implement it. Before that we need to
plant seeds into their minds saying importance of trees. We are in the
process of that by taking regular classes regarding. One more reason is all
the children in the school are from nearby slum. I have visited the slum two
weeks back and I find no place to plant the trees, and even there is no
 place in school premises also.

Santosh Garu, essay writing would be useful for 8th or 9th class students
on Science topics. I agree with you. We are conducting essay writing for 5th
 class children on general topics.

I have already given the two topics to the teachers (Nagaraju Garu and one
Nandi foundation volunteer), to prepare the children accordingly.

 Given topics are

 1. About INDIA (Which includes importance of 15th August)

 2. about Uses of Trees (Environment).

My intention behind these topics is these are the topics each and every
 child should aware.

 Prasanthi garu,

Regarding story writing and story telling, it is good one to improve
children’s creativity and these types of competitions will definitely
cultivate the reading habit. We will do that.

While listing all the games, we have already sorted story telling and story
writing along with essay writing. Since we have very less time (only 2
weekends) to conduct all the competitions for all the classes, some games
are removed. Anyways we will plan for that if time permits.

The ultimate purpose is lifting the spirit of the children.

 better.

How about story writing? Asking tthem to write stories. This way we can
get to know their creativity and also their standard in Telugu.

We can ask them to narrate stories. New games.

We gave them so many books and let us ask them to read those books and
conduct story telling on those books. That way they will cultivate
 the reading habit.

 1. Essay writing (for 4th and 5th classes)
 2. 2 Memory Games (for 3rd and 4th classes, which tests their
 memory power).
 3. Musical chairs (For all classes)
 4. Running (for all classes)
 5. Lemon n spoon (for 2nd and 3rd classes)
 6. Writing numbers (1-100) and letters (A-Z) (for 1st class).
And we thought of giving some gifts (like GK books, geometry boxes,
writing pads, crayons, small boxes filling with pencils, erasers and
sharpeners etc...) to winners. Myself, Satya Krishna and Naveen discussed
regarding this. Naveen expressed his views as “giving gifts are like
 raising

 complete details of the school.

here the details of the school :

 school Established in 1918
School Name: WAESA Primary School, Mallepally,
Presnetly 4 teachers (2 telugu medium 2 urdu medium)
 Present strength - 158 students (1st to 5th class)*
Children coming from Afzal sagar slum where their parents are thieves and
 habituated to the crimes. *
 School is near by masque.
HM: Ms. Rajeshawari, she is going to retire in 31st August.

Main Problem : School building is very near to masque. because of the
masque people are coming to school to park their vehicles. and planing to
occupy the school. HM is not giving permission to park the vehicles. If she
retired there is more chances of occupying the school by the masque people
not only that there will be no school in that premises. So, HM is asking
 help to protect school.

Can we do any thing in this.

Members i am requesting all you please respond for this at earliest.
Because we have very less time. If we are ready to take the school, Hyd
members will go to school coming sat;day to discuss with HM.

But, is this what we want to publish? What was our cause and purpose? Why
 do we digress every time?

Can we please have some clarity to reduce email clutter.

When people join this group, you ask why they join, please pay respect to
 that intention.

Having a separate email address is not the solution, reducing clutter and
unnecessary emails is. If you feel this should continue, please make a

or create a separate address group so people can subscribe to these emails,
and receive as many as they want.

I don't intent to point my finger at someone, but I am in this group with a
strong intention, and we each have our own schedules, so I would stick as
much as possible to the cause than do receive numerous emails which I did
not expect to be a solution to our issues.

Another point, Why do we need to receive BOSF emails? and updates about

At least 600 people and around 150 children used the camp. we got 6
technicians from Ram reddy eye hospital (Lions club), mahabub nagar, a
dental doctor from mahabubnagar govt hospital apart from dr. veerappa,
medical officer from redcross mahabub nagar.

Khaja kutubuddin, district secretary was great help in conducting the camps.

I am left with anti biotic tablets and many other tablets with me. I think
this can be used in the next camp.

2010-03-04 Thread harinath
I took data forms filled by the nanal nagar hostel blind students, in a
specific format, that i created with simple details like name, contact
details, education, specific requirements/issues.

these forms are lying with me for the last couple of weeks or so. :-(.

somehow i am not able to manage my time properly, request someone from our
group to take the forms from me and get progress moving on.

Also one specific request they made is that, they need few benches and a
table or so. request team to look at the financial aspect of it.

 Dear Birds,

 Greetings.

I think this is my first e-mail in this New Year. Wish you all a very
happy, healthy, prosperous and fruitful new year.

We, TMAD group volunteers, visited two govt. hostels for visually
challenged on 1st Jan. It was a wonderful experience and very much inspired
by the spirit of them. They have many talents, they are qualified and what
all they are looking for is some support in their efforts to stand on their
 own.

Govt. blind hostels in nanal nagar area. There are 2 hostels for adult

 students (intermdiate to PG courses).

 1. Home for the Blind, Salarjung Colony (College Men), H.No. 9-4-86/50,

 Salarjung Colony, Mehdipatnam , Hyderabad.

 Hostel Warden: Kondaiah: +91 9247182034

Student Coordinator: Naidu, B.Ed. Mobile No. 92460-48411 and Arshad, D.Ed.,
 Mobile No. 98857-01806

No of Students: 100 (Intemediate to Phd.)

 2. Home for the Blind, Nanal Nagar (College Men), H.No. 12-2-718/A,

 Nanalnagar, Hyderabad.

 Hostel Warden: Vijay Kumar : +91 93467-76131

No of Students : 130 Nos.

 Student Committe:

 Sukumar BA., B.ED (M.A) Mobile No. 99855-44674;

M Raju, BA Mobile No. 9949222340 and Mallaiah BA., B.ED ( M.A. Telugu)
 Mobile No. 98494-55132

 Briefly these are the requirements:

 Immediate:

They want people who can read and record their syllabus. As exams are fast
approaching, this is the immediate requirement and will make a lot of
 difference.

 General:

 1. IPod for each inmate (they can record and they can read)

 2 C
omputers in their hostels so that they can practice (DTP, MS-Office) well

 Aspirations

 1. Media Support

They want media to write about them, their talents and also about what they
expect from the society. They do not want sympathy but empathy. They want to
prove that they can stand on their own. They expect livelihood.

 2. Job opportunities

Most of them are B.Ed. and D.Ed. students. Some completed their courses
 and are looking for opportunities.

Some are trained as tele callers and some in DTP, MS-Office etc.,

 3. Sports Competitions

They are good at sports too. There are Chess Champions, Karate Champions
and other players. They want tournaments to be conducted regularly so that
they can develop their physical abilities and also leadership qualities.
Those certificates would be of great value to them when they apply for govt.
 jobs.

 What we did so far!!

 1. Our members Kasyap and Murali came forward to donate Computer and
Speakers. Murali said that he will approach his company, Hellosoft, to
donate some computers. (Earlier they contributed 5 computers to Gautami
 Satyagraha Ashram, Rajahmundry)

 2. We are working in Govt. Primary School, Rethibowli, Mehdipatnam and we
are giving employment to one person to work as a teacher in this school. He
 will join from this month.

 3. a. Spoke with Rama garu of ETV2 (Sakhi programme) and she promised that
she would do a shoot after 31st Jan. Her programmes are usually aired on
 Thursdays @ 2 pm.

 3. b. Spoke with Satyababu of Sakhi Daily to write a story on them
immediately emphasizing the requirement of people who can read/record their
 syllabus.

 4. Also spoke with one of my friends (who wish to be anonymous) who earlier
requested me to show bright visually challenged job seekers as she wanted to
provide them training and employment as tele callers. She has been relocated
to some other city but she replied promptly saying that she is interested to
give job offers in Tele Calling and DTP. Hopefully things will fall in place
in another two to three months.

Haven't uploaded the photos yet. Will share the URL of the video.

companies are still cutting down the trees. I am going out of town today. I
think Usha garu is also not in town. Can you inform interested people
requesting them to attend the Dharna / send letters ?

Surendra garu and his SAVE team is organizing a two day protest at the
Dharna Chowk, Near Indira Park (while coming from lower tank band, after
emerald sweet shop, take left at next signal ). They are collecting
signatures and letters from the public and sending to the construction
authorities to implement the High Court stay order.
He strongly believes that enough pressure from the local community and
hyderabad public can enforce the stay order and save these magnificent
 gaint trees.

2010-02-22 Thread harinath
Dear all,

We are conducting medical camp in Bhallanpally village (my native place) in
Mahabubnagar district on march 6th (saturday) 2010.

This is in association with District Redcross society, Mahabubnagar and Ram
reddy Eye hospital Mahabubnagar.

Responsibility on TMAD part is to provide facilities in the village (tent,
chairs and food, water etc) and medicines.
I am taking care of this activity with my cousins,I know TMAD account is not
having enough funds now a days, so I am planning to generate the funds and
use it.

It is a good opportunity to learn about various issues in the vilage (My
father is very negative about this camp as there are some youngsters with
intention of creating troubles). But I am ready to face the situation as my
only intention is to conduct medical camp that benefits the poor.

[tomakeadifference] Thalassemia help!

2010-01-26 Thread harinath
One Mr. Rajesh called me today and discussed about some help related with
Thalassemia.

He is a businessman by profession but is helping some Thalassemia affected
children with blood transfusion etc. He explained me about the impact of
blood tranfusion. It seems Iron gets clogged in body because of transfusion
(usual food + iron in external blood), so it requires some costly medecine
to nullify this effect.

Rajesh has invited us to visit Redcross blood bank in

Athyuth Reddy Marg (opposite lane to andhra mahila sabha, Vidyanagar).

He is yet to register his organization but named it as Thalassemia
Awareness Society. He could be another bird into BOSF.

His contact number is 9848093106. We can plan visiting the place, he said
he will be happy to accompany us. Based on our understanding of the need we

Hyderabad. So we have to plan something big which helps the children and
also form the basis for our future course of action with respect to
Education. Luckily the children are in primary standard and Headmaster is
cooperative. We have to utilize this opportunity.

Can we plan to take the children to any place of significance that
specifies the importance of Republic Day?

[tomakeadifference] New year celebrations - Update

2010-01-01 Thread harinath
Dear all,

Many of us gathered at the Govt Home for blind, Salarjung colony (near
mehdipatnam) and celebrated new year with the hostel inmates. It was a
fruitful visit that let us listen to the aspirations of the students
who have talent in multiple functional areas.  We have distributed
snacks, laddu (thanks to satyakrishna) and apples to all inmates in
the hostel.

Hostel warden spoke for few minutes and thanked us for the visit. Then
it was prasanthi who managed the show later. Diwaker garu played
pivotal role in organizing the event. Satyakrishna garu brought TMAD
T-shirts which helped us to wear the TMAD brand :-).

We have also visited another hostel for blind in nanal nagar (on main
road)  (I went home home in the middle), but as I have the
information, our team has visited prema nilayam and then mehdipatnam
school class room construction work (which is close to completion).

I have captured the event and  burned onto a DVD(un-edited), not sure
how can this be published with the team. Youtube didnt't allow me to
upload it as there is a 10 min max video length constraint.

few commitments we made:
kashyap to provide a computer to the hostel.
prasanthi - recording lessons and to see feasibility of providing mp3
player/tape recorders to the inmates.
prasanthi - to check about call center job opportunity for few of the
eligible hostel students.
harinath/divaker reddy - to gather bio data of the inmates.

It would make lot of difference to the home if we do follow up and
fulfill some of the aspirations of the hostel inmates in towards a
better career and life.

Its already lengthy mail, so stopping it here, I request prasanthi to
send out detailed mail (I have problem in remembering names as well).

[tomakeadifference] New year event @ Nanal nagar (Near mehdipatnam)

2009-12-30 Thread harinath
Hi,

We have decided to visit govt blind hostels at Nanal nagar (one at
nanal nagar, and other at salarjung colony). Both the hostels are near
by.
These hostels are catering to male students who are studying their +2
to PG (or until they get a job) and are fully funded and operated by
govt of andhra pradesh. Each hostel has around 140 inmates staying.

Let us meet at Nanal nagar X road at 8.30AM on jan 1st, 2010.

Diwaker garu and satyakrishna garu will provide further details on the
program. But essentially it could include
1. New year celebration - cake cutting
2. Snacks distribution.
3. Sharing their aspirations

There was a plan about TMAD T shirts as well. Satyakrishna\diwaker
garu will update on that as well.

Landmark: Nanal nagar junction is after the food world junction (on
the way to chilkur road from mehidpatnam), there is a status with hand
symbol. we can meet at the junction (at the bus stop after taking left
towards chilkur).

Please reply to this mail thread with your contact details and count
of the persons with you.

 Hi Friends,

 Source URL:
 http://business.rediff.com/slide-show/2009/dec/11/slide-show-1-water-crisis-what-india-is-doing.htm

If you are afraid because your tap has been running dry lately, then it is
time you braced yourself for worse times to follow. Terrifying times, in
 fact.

By the year 2020, says a recent World Bank report, most major Indian cities
will run dry. Given the state of the monsoon this year, it would appear that
the World Bank report has come true almost a decade earlier.

Severe water shortage had already led to a growing number of conflicts
across the country, with 90 per cent of India's territory served by
 inter-state rivers.

India's supply of water too is rapidly dwindling primarily due to
mismanagement of water resources, although over-pumping and pollution are
 also significant contributors.

Climate change is expected to worsen the situation by causing erratic and
unpredictable weather, which could drastically diminish the supply of water
 coming from rainfall and glaciers.

However, we are not still ready to accept the reality of depleting
groundwater reserves in India. This condition has caused a major water
 crisis.

Water.org, an NGO with which Hollywood actor Matt Damon is closely
attached, gives some terrifying water facts (globally):

3.575 million people die each year from water-related diseases

43% of water-related deaths are due to diarrhoea.

 84% of water-related deaths are in children ages 0 - 14.

98% of water-related deaths occur in the developing world.

884 million people, lack access to safe water supplies, approximately one
 in eight people.

The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any
 war claims through guns.

At any given time, half of the world's hospital beds are occupied by
patients suffering from a water-related disease.

Less than 1% of the world's fresh water (or about 0.007% of all water on
earth) is readily accessible for direct human use.

 *More water facts*

An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than the typical
person living in a developing country slum uses in a whole day.

About a third of people without access to an improved water source live on
less than $1 a day. More than two thirds of people without an improved water
source live on less than $2 a day.

Poor people living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more per litre of
water than wealthy people living in the same city.

Without food a person can live for weeks, but without water you can expect
to live only a few days.

The daily requirement for sanitation, bathing, and cooking needs, as well
as for assuring survival, is about 13.2 gallons per person.

Over 50 percent of all water projects fail and less than five percent of
projects are visited, and far less than one percent have any longer-term
 monitoring.

Only 62% of the world's population has access to improved sanitation -
defined as a sanitation facility that ensures hygienic separation of human
 excreta from human contact.

Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.

Millions of women and children spend several hours a day collecting water
 from distant, often polluted sources.

 *Climate change, another threat*

In an unprecedented incident, a 30-year-old man, who was part of a
1,000-strong group protesting against the stringent water cut outside the
Bombay Municipal Corporation headquarters recently, died of apparent cardiac
 failure during a police lathicharge.

Viral Dholakia, who died before he could be taken to GT Hospital a few
metres away, was a founder member of Swabhimaan, an NGO set up by Narayan
Rane's son, Nitesh, who was also leading the protest.

Incidents like these, however weird they may seem now, are bound to get
repeated unless we sit up and take some drastic steps to counter water
crisis, which is sure to assume alarming proportions in years to come

With climate change set to have unpredictable consequences on water regime,
the action plan, he said, aims at increasing water use efficiency by 20 per
cent and promote basin level integrated water resources management.

Noting that efficient use of crop water can increase the gross irrigated
area either by increasing the irrigated cropped area or the irrigation
intensity, the prime minister said that the second green revolution could
come from technologies developed in the private sector.

Water related issues need to be addressed with full involvement of local
people and taking into account the local conditions. Farmers should be
consulted in any agricultural water management initiatives.

 Women too play a key

relief efforts are already in abundance in response to all the media
 coverage.

Support the Hyd Ground Teams Financially as much as we can. All our
donations will be routed through Chandra Manubothu, our US Chapter
 Treasurer, as always.

We are a registered NGO back home, and thought process needs to start on
how to register it here in USA. I will try to get some insight into this
from other friendly Desi NGO's here. Others can do the same with their
 contacts/info.

Our Ground teams need more Volunteers - please spread the word to your
families back home. Anyone interested in joining the Purchase/Distribution
Teams can contact Prasanthi @ Hyd directly.

What can we do to raise as many funds as we can on this issue??
 Suggestions invited.

Members who could not attend, pls join us in the thread here.

Also, new members of this chapter, pls update ur details in our database
under US Chapter, and leave a ph no for contact. If possible, please give an
 intro mail to the group.

Any other qns or suggestions, pls mail here.

For a more updated situation on our co-ordinated relief efforts, go

Here is a quick update about mehdipatnam school class room construction.

after slab work, there is no further progress on the work. contractor has
brought bricks and kept at the school. He promised me that he will start
work after ganesh chavithi. But it didnt happen. I am trying to reach the

contacts from SSA engineers.

For now, I wanted to say there is no further update on the construction
work.

[tomakeadifference] TMAD I.Day celebrations in Bhallanpally

2009-08-16 Thread harinath
Dear all,

Here is the update about In Z.P.High school, Bhallan Pally, Mahabubnagar
district

I went along with my brother (Sudharshan reddy) and was present during
August 15 celebrations in bhallan pally. My brother was really very
handy through out this visit.

Students are very active and given proper guidance they can really
achieve good progress in their life. I have presented the school with
science experiements kit (worth 3500/-), books, pens, pencils, charts,
calculators, multiplication tables books (plastic) and chocoloates.
We made sure that every student of the primary school and the high
school got something or the other (table books, pencils, pens in primary
school and pens in high school).

Photos:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BVsbx11wehY/SofNIEoTnGI/FL8/EJiQ6ji15s0/s1600-h/P1010028.JPG

http://harinath-photos.blogspot.com/2009/08/august-15-celebrations-in-bhallanpally.html

Total cost incurred was close to 5500/-.

Present needs:
payment for volunteers:

There are 2 volunteers working. Looks like they are getting a regular
teacher and hence 1 teacher has no hope of getting any salary from govt.
He has been working from June 12 and as telugu teacher but as a regular
govt teacher is going to join in a week or so, he will not be getting
anything from govt for his work.
I promised the head master that, we will pay 500/- per month, total
1500/- for his work between june and august). Head master will look for
further donations from others.

Also there is another local volunteer called Venkataswamy (He lost his
right leg during his childhood). For me he looks a very valuable asset
to the school. He also needs financial assistance. I am thinking even if
the school gets all the vacancies filled it is worth having him in the
school as teacher. He is very energetic and belongs to the village
(where all the teachers come from neighbouring towns).

I am thinking of supporting this guy as he is worth of it. Request
members to consider it. I am ready to pay the initial amounts.

Benches:
Apart from 10th class no one else have benches to sit, when head master
requested help for the same, some of the ward members and villagers came
forward and offered benches (total of 25 ) but I cannot take it granted
(my father was telling that every year people do give word but they do
not stick to it, I will wait for a month as asked by the donors and see
what we can do about it).

Sarpanch and ward members have gave oral commitment to resolve some of
the local issues (like a power connection ) and getting more teachers
and land for the school.

[tomakeadifference] School education related items

2009-08-04 Thread harinath
Hi,

With motivation from Diwaker reddy garu, i took a day off and visited
govt schools in my village. We have 2 govt schools 1. Mandala parishad
Primary school and another one is a Z.P.High school.
In total there are around 300 students (my rough estimate is that around
230-250 students are regular to the school, thanks to no rains, children
come to school. If rain they are on demand in agriculture related
activities on daily wage basis).

As I spoke with teachers, these schools are somewhat better in terms of
class rooms and teachers. There are 3 regular teachers and 1 volunteer
in primary school and 5 regular teachers and 2 volunteers in the high
school.

Teachers have suggested me to buy them useful books like dictionaries,
puzzles, science instruments like vernier calipers, screw guage etc.

I will buy some of them on my own and then will expose the full details
to TMAD such as. There are few local issues which are causing funds to
lapse. (last year there is a fund lapse or Rs. 3 lakhs and there is a
fund of 9 lakhs even now. I am discussing with few of the panchayat ward
members about utilizing this fund).

well, Here is what i am looking at:
1. school teaching aids - items and location where we can get them.
2. science experiments related items - locations where we can get them
(screw guage, vernier colipers, test tubes etc).

3. General books, dictionaries etc - places where we can find good
collection and get decent discounts.

4. Any other educational information/items.

I am not looking for anything that runs with electricity, as my village
schools have no electricity supply as of now. But if you have useful
information please do share with me.

Thanks for reading through lenghty mail, Usually i like simpler ones.

[tomakeadifference] update on mehdiapatnam school

2009-08-04 Thread harinath
Hi,

Today I got a call from SSA regarding some signatures. So I went to SSA
office and provided required stuff along with TMAD bank account details.

We will be getting SSA contribution (close to 2 to 3 lakhs) towards the
mehdipatnam school construction. It will take another 1 or 2 weeks for
the actual amount transfer.

Also met contractor at the office. It seems he faced lot of difficulties
in executing the work. issues like material theft, objections from local
regarding petty things, He some how managed things well till now.
SSA engineers were appreciating our efforts as it is very difficult to
execute work like this one.(no space to keep material or lift it to
first floor etc).

This is for your information.

Remaining funds, we will pay as per the SSA payments to us. No further
payments to contractor from our side, until we receive from SSA.

 Thanks Ravi,

 For others,

Contractor was requesting to provide some more funding,as SSA will release
 funds in another 2 weeks.
SSA fund should reach our TMAD account and then we pay the same to
 contractor.

Contractor was requesting me to provide some additional amount (he was
actually asking for another 90k, to make the total payment to 2 Lakhs).

As we anyway need to pay 18k towards the classroom construction as our
contribution (20% amount -108k total). So I thought let us pay 20k (making
it round figure for now and adjust the 2k additional amt from SSA fund to
 TMAD account).

Hope it is ok for our members. I didn't commit any additional amount to
contractor, but only said 'will try based on the availability'.

[tomakeadifference] Mehdipatnam school update

2009-07-21 Thread harinath
Hi all,

Here is the latest update about Mehdipatnam school class room
construction.

Today Slab construction is happening under the supervision of SSA
engineers. Mr.Laxmaiah,AE,SSA called me and informed me about the work.

Though there was little delay, I am happy that we are progressing on the
work. I spoke to contractor to complete the work by Aug 15th, But It
will be difficult, atleast they need to leave 2 weeks for curing, so
building walls and windows/doors etc will take some more time. Given
the phase of the work, it might take another 1 month+ for the actual
completion.

Meanwhile, I have submitted a request letter to SSA to release funds
from their contribution (80%) based on the work status.

Thanks
harinath

[tomakeadifference] mehdipatnam school update [5 Attachments]

2009-06-20 Thread harinath
Hi everyone,

This is the update about mehdipatnam school (ambedkar nagar, GPS).
I am visiting the school on alternate days (while going home in the evening,
school is on the way for me anyway).

as you might know construction work has started last week and columns r
completed. in another week slab will be done as well.
I have visited the site this morning and superviser (of the contractor) is
hopeful of slab by next tuesday or wednesday. This contractor looks
committed

It will take around a month or so to complete the full class room.

Please find few snaps of the school.

Re: [tomakeadifference] Re: Update on Mehdipatnam School

2009-06-08 Thread harinath
Thanks :-).

Special thanks should to all the donors and prasanthi and others who had lot
of patience through out this exercise, Donors had their trust with TMAD.
While the work was delayed, we had no complaints from our members especially
ones who have donated. This shows that they have confidence in us in
executing projects like this.

regarding the school work, I have visited the school this morning as well.
There is progress.
The work has just began few days ago, we will see the columns raised in
another 2 to 3 days. goal is that before start of the school we want to
complete slab work as well. In practice it will take some more time.

This contractor is better and keeping his word as of now.

Photos:... We can have the snaps once the columns raised. so another one
more week of wait.

Also as prasanthi mentioned earlier, if there are any volunteers to take
care of the work (along with me) it will be great. work includes few phone
calls a day and visiting the site on weekly basis or as per the
availability.
While this will not be a show stopper such as , but it is to make sure we
get work done little quicker. Always regular follow ups are better.

No words can explain the efforts of Harinath garu for this project. He has

 Sep 22, 2007 - Registration
 Feb 20, 2009 - 12 A Confirmation
 June 2, 2009 - 80 G Exemption Confirmation

I am proud to say that no single donor so far asked for 80G exemption no

This is a moment to enjoy and thank each one of us for their commitment and

 principle of no administrative overhead.

Though everyone of us deserve appreciation, special mention is required of
Chaitanya who singlehandedly guided everyone of us in this process. Then
Vani (who cleverly excluded her from the list), Satya, Ravi, Sivanand garu,
Kasyap and Sarat. All of them made it possible. Blr members are to be
commended for their constant follow up. Anyway this is all team spirit.
 This is team's achievement.

This is a time for Celebration too.

I agree with prasanthi,

As a side note, I believe we are here in this group to do something to the
society.

at the same time, if we are too busy and pre-occupied with lot of things for

By introducing new members who can actively volunteer and spend their time,
we will be helping the needy.

Please do consider, let there be momentum and activities in TMAD.

2009-03-18 Thread harinath
Yes, We are all set to start the work. Please find the TMAD request letter,
SSA approval letter and the plan as given by their engineers.

I have been coordinating with SSA for the last 6 months or so. Manavata was
initially supposed to take this up but they had some problems and hence it
got delayed. Finally we have taken this up on our own.

I must thank Maheedhar Maddi, who happily contributed for this activity. He
was the first contributor to this activity which gave us confidence.
Also Naveen, Divya, Dave.kavitha and prashanti(sorry if i missed) for their
contributions toward this.

Total project is estimated at 5.4 Lakhs and as you might know we are into
this activity with 20% contribution from our side. i.e 1.08 Lakh.

I will publish the MOU copy and further details about the estimates in
another few days.

I am talking to a builder to take up the work as it might be difficult for
us to monitor and manage the work. But options are open as of now. Initial
discussion is that we try to build it on our own, but it depends on getting
a good Mason. Engineers at the SSA office shared with me few experiences
where similar projects were hurt badly by greedy masons.

Please share your views and your involvement too is welcome!

 Thanks

   Friends,

 Good News.

We got the formal letter from SSA office. Harinath has the copies with
him. He has spent more than two hours for this work today and he will be
going to the school tomorrow to discuss with Headmaster.

According to SSA Official Srinivas Reddy garu we have to complete this
work in two months. They will release 10% amount each time as the work
progresses. We have to start the work asap.

Harinath also met an Engineer (he himself summoned Harinath) who is good
at Accupuncture and is very interested in serving the society. He asked
Harinath to involve him in our activities.

You will receive regular updates as the work progresses. Children will
study in the new classrooms without any disturbance from the next academic
 year onwards.

 Thank you.

   Friends,

 Greetings.

I gave 2000 rs. to Suresh Deepala to help a mother-son duo in desperate
condition of health. This I didn't consult the group as there was no time.
Suresh will give us the bills.

Please go through the following mails from Suresh to me about these people
 and his empathy for them:

Sometimes I cannot describe in words the pain which we undergo. The mother
and son whom I was talking about are out of hospital now. I dont know what
to do with them. I really tried hard with all the homes but I could not get
any response from them. I also tried hard to get their relatives who havent
turned up. Both of their condition is really severe. I heard that old lady
devoloped a bed sore and magotts are coming out of it, it seems. and from
the sons leg the puss is oozing out.

They require immediate shelter now. Mother Theresa home is the best place
for them. I tried with the letter from share a service for which they said
they have no space. this was 10 daya ago. I am thinking to send somebody
again and ask the perimission. I will try with share a service again.

My biggest worry is this the Old lady is just lying on her back at a
constant position for morethan 20 days and as is the case with the son too.
we must understand one thing here that they have undergone a surgery after
which they are suppose to have been provided the good food, medicine and
must be looked after by the family which didnt happen. It is really hard to
see them suffering like that and being not in a position to do anything..

That is why many worst conditions than these at the hospitals, I decided I
need to take it up as a project and I keep saying to the people whoever i
meet to go to Osmania hospital whenever they are free and observe the things
thre. That is how i got enlightened of how poor are really suffering.

Cleaning maggots and all is not a big task, as it needs some medical
material which I suppose is not much expensive and also that these two
people after being treated at some shelter home for some time need to be
taken to the hospial specially that lady whose leg is also infected and
might need amputation. but definitely it must be only after she gets fit
physically. Also we cannot say when she will die and I am quie surprised and
feel disheartened to see her alive till now as i thought she will die soon.
To be open I am really praying god to take her to him soon.

 ===

This is the story. So I hope that there will not be any objection.

An important point. I am pondering over setting up a shelter home for such
people (who are not allowed admission in any of the oldage homes). To set up
a children home with our ideology is not easy and there is a long way for us
to go to achieve that. Meanwhile why don't we help for this cause!!

Share A Service group came forward and is in discussion with three to four
NGOs to take part in this endeavour. I told to Suresh that help would be
there from TMAD front and it would be based on constraints.

We do not have any objection in collaboration as service is our motto but
running a home with the help of few more NGOs might not be smooth. Will keep
you posted of further developments. Any serious decision will only be after
 discussion in our group.

 Thank you.

 with regards,
 Prasanthi.

thanks for the mail prashanti. It is a nice summary of the event.

Yes i do believe, when we find we are not doing enough, we need to do
some brainstorming and find ways of re-energizing ourselves.

TMAD has been doing wonderful job, I thank all the members who are

 Friends,

 Greetings.

Feeling happy to share that we could meet and some of us could actually turn
up. Thanks to all those who attended and thanks to all those who tried their
level best to attend and unfortunately couldn't make it.

It was a good meeting. We could discuss few things. NTR Gardens was nice. We
 sat at a comfortable place.

Raghu Vineel, Harinath, Mrs. Kavita Harinath, Ravi Shankar, Bhargav, Kasyap,
Murali, Ratan, Mrs. Deepthi Kasyap, Divya, and the little Adya attended. We
had a good time with Aadu and chocolates from Ratan and Divya.

Initially we discussed on how each of us joined the group, what are the pros
and cons that we feel and what are the suggestions to revive the group and
keep up the pace. Harinath felt that BosF is the best thing that we are
doing. He says that we seem to be lacking in focus.

Bhargav suggested that we should give publicity to the activities that we
are doing and that is how we can bring in more volunteers. He also mentioned
that we should target people who are looking for jobs and give them some
money for doing our work and though there are chances that these people will
only work til they get job, still it is worth a try and helps our
 activities.

Kasyap suggested that we should appoint senior persons like school
principals etc., for the teams (Education and Health) and TMAD members
should assist them, back when needed. Kasyap mentioned that he feels we are
doing charity only and he personally does not like helping individuals
(medical cases, providing funds for Mehdipatnam school etc.,).

Ravi says that he feels happy that he is doing things though he feels that
he does things on impulse. He gets to know so many things. Instead of
charity work, we can focus on the society and how we can expand our
knowledge and reach there by we can try to create awareness among people.

Murali felt that no group can be active all the time and so if any volunteer
feels that he cannot be active or cannot take part for some reason or other,
it is good if he/she introduces new volunteers to the group. He cited his
example that he introduced Karthik and Jairam who were very active and did
 good work.

Raghu Vineel said that as he relocated from Blr he felt that he cannot
mingle with others easily and he will be all alone. So he has taken some
time to get adjusted to Hyderabad and also to settle some personal issues.
He is actively involved with other groups as well. He feels that our group
is more planned and organized. He is now ready to take active part.

Prasanthi mentioned that it would be good if the interaction is more and
people open up with reasonable replies (does not sound absurd) and also it
would be helpful if we can say if we are available for any activity in
particular period say for two months or so and this way we can get a clear
view on how many volunteers are available and which activity to take up.
Also as every volunteer knows about their potential and interest, it would
be good if they come forward saying that this is what I can do and am
willing to do and it helps the group tremendously. It is not like someone
assigns tasks but we do the things that we like and also own up the tasks
 and TMAD as well.

Harinath mentioned that for a group like us it is not sufficient that we
meet for two hours and go but should keenly sit for 3 to 4 hours doing
brainstorming to take the group forward.

Divya said that though she is extremely busy she came only because today is
our anniversary. Meeting members we can meet any day but as this is
anniversary it is special and so she wants to take part. Though we used to
have many fights in the group we restricted it for the difference of opinion
on the concept and we always used to be like a family and thats what keeps
the group going despite how many of us can be active or not. She hoped and
expressed confidence that we will continue the spirit and be like a family
and do the constructive work. That is what she suggested Raghu Vineel too to
keep meeting people even online (she also quoted our example that most of us
haven't met each other for so many years and inspite of that we were like
 one strong family).

Ratan seconded Raghu Vineel's view that our group is much better when
compared to other groups, we have all the things at our disposal to make it
work and just that we are expecting more from us and are setting high
 targets and expectations.

Though we didn't conclude anything, we dispersed with the view that we need
not feel sober that we are not doing much. It only

 Friends,

I too thank everyone involved in this effort and you know what
Chaitanya didn't even go for lunch today thinking that he might miss
the turn. He was there in the Income Tax office from the morning till
 evening.

As mentioned in the email they put in lot of efforts (me joined only
at the end for providing the required details) for the past two weeks.

Lets cross our fingers and wait.

 Chaitanya,

Incidentally I am chatting with Srivyal now and he is telling that
earlier they used to give both 12A and 80G at once but now the system
has been changed and we get 12A first and then we have to apply for
80G after 3 months. Lets see.

At the end, I would also say...thanks to TMAD. I am not getting
time to write in detail, but there are umpteen number of reasons to
be proud of TMAD and its members. Let us all keep up the same spirit.

 Thank you.

 with regards,

   Great, Chandra.

So far the contribution for the school would be:

Rs. 20,000 - Maheedhar and friends

 Rs. 20,000 - Naveen Ramisetty

 Rs. 1,000 - Prasanthi

 Rs. 1,000 - Divya

 Rs. 2,250 - Kavita Nistala

Rs. 14,000 - Dave, colleague of Santhosh Alladi

 Rs. 10,000 - Chandra Manubothu

 Total - Rs. 68,250.

Great going. We are short of Rs. 31,750.

Lets hope that we can raise that amount as well.

Harinath, please start the process. Try to get in touch with the
Headmaster and Srinivas Reddy too. Also find out about Govt.'s
 permission for construction of classrooms.
