[twitter-dev] Whitelist Requests from REST API
Hello, I have a question about number of requests, if I signed up with twitter, let's say, to allow visualizing my data, then the app will consume my requests. how does it work if the app got whitelisted, the app will not consume my requests? This looks like something you could implement using the Streaming API, using REST and Search to fill in the missing pieces. Re: [twitter-dev] Whitelist status update
Hi Trevor, There's nothing specific you can do to ensure that it gets reviewed sooner than later -- if you like, you can send me an email after you've submitted the review and I may give it some advance consideration. To be clear: the vast majority of whitelisting requests are denied. An accompanying fact to that is that the vast majority of whitelisting requests are too vague, inappropriate, unintelligible, or not serviceable. I highly recommend that anyone who applies for whitelisting make as verbose of a request as possible: giving insight into current usage patterns, predicted usage patterns, how tweets/Twitter is specifically used in the integration, insight on the target audience the integration serves, and demonstration that other options have been given consideration & exploration (such as using the streaming API, making efficient use of API calls and caching, acting on a member's direct behalf). If you're requesting IP address based whitelisting, your request will be analyzed even more critically. Help us help you. Some areas where we don't typically provide whitelisting, regardless of how well-written the request: proxy servers, research/university projects, bots, obvious information scrapers, pre-release applications, etc. Previous whitelisting approval does not guarantee future whitelisting -- even if you're just moving IP addresses around. Also, the http://twitter.com/help/request_whitelisting form isn't to be used for requesting Search API whitelisting, xAuth permissions, Streaming role requests, etc. It's strictly for requesting whitelisting for a user account/IP address within the context of REST API development. Finally, be aware that we have a bug in our whitelisting system that often results in denial emails ridiculously not including the reason for denial. If you get one of these and it wasn't obvious why it may have been rejected, feel free to follow up with me and I'll research the reason for you. Re: [twitter-dev] Whitelist and Authentication
Hi Juan, IP based whitelisting stays the same except that any authorised requests must use OAuth. This means any requests you make at the moment with a username or password will have to be converted to OAuth. If you only use public methods (no username and password) then you don't need to make any changes. It is still worth understanding what needs to be done to make OAuth work though - just in case you want to make authenticated requests. More information on converting can be found on our developer resources site: http://dev.twitter.com/pages/basic_to_oauth Hope that answers your question, Best, Matt On Wed, Aug 25, 2010 at 10:59 AM, JuanP wrote: > Hi, > We have our application (actually our IP) whitelisted in order to > access the 20K per hour rate. Re: [twitter-dev] Whitelist confirmation . . .
Hi there, We're a bit behind on processing whitelisting requests, as we had a hiatus of approving requests during the World Cup. Whitelisting is a privilege granted on a case-by-case basis (criteria and acceptance rates change over time), but we don't generally provide whitelisting for research or academic purposes. In most cases, researchers (and developers) wanting expanded access to the Search API would be better served by implementing the Streaming API instead. Rate limits are in place to ensure best performance for the highest number of users. While higher limits would benefit the speed at which many research projects may be completed, the vast majority will have to make do with the current rate limits. Rate limiting, whitelisting and their role within the Twitter ecosystem are reviewed frequently. Re: [twitter-dev] Whitelist Limits for Direct Messaging
To my knowledge (and I might be wrong, but this is what I understand to be true): - there is a limit of 250 DMs per day for a user account, blanketly applied. Whitelisting for an application has no effect on this limit. This isn't an API limit. It's a limit for a Twitter user. A twitter user could contribute to their allocation by using the website or an API client. I'm trying to find a reliable source for whitelist limits for Direct Messaging. I looked through the "direct messaging limits and best practices for individual services?" thread - http://bit.ly/cLVv1Q but there weren't any authoritative descriptions of whitelist limits. What I'm looking for is: 1. DMs allowed per user per hour, and per day - (Where user is defined as someone using an app). 2. DMs allowed per app per hour, and per day I saw that Doug Williams had said that whitelisted users get 5000 DMs per day, but didn't specify whether that was an app total or a total for a random user using an app for DMs. The hourly limit for whitelisted apps wasn't specified at all. -Mo http://www.pay4tweet.com

[twitter-dev] Whitelist DM limit Question
I'm developing an application and I need to find out how the DM limit will work if I get it Whitelisted. Does the expanded DM limit for whitelisted applications only apply to DM's directly from the account associated with the application that has been whitelisted, or does it apply to an account that uses my application? For example if my application is linked to my account named MyDmAccount and a user with an account called SomeUser uses my application to send DMs. Can SomeUser send an increased amount of DMs through my application, or does the allowed increase in DMs only apply to DMs send directly from MyDmAccount? Trying to design this application to stay within the lines and need to figure this out before moving forward. Thanks, Matt
[twitter-dev] Whitelist Limits
>From what I can tell, the white list limits are 20,000 calls per hour. I am trying to make a decision about creating a single user desktop app vs a multi user web app. I really want to create it as a web app, but I am concerned about the long term viability of the white list limit.
