[Bug 485562] [NEW] Data loss on ext3, maybe related to data=journal
Public bug reported: I'm currently testing a backup scheme on a new karmic installation. The procedure worked flawlessly on jaunty and older Ubuntu/Debian distributions (albeit using hardware RAID on those, the new machine uses a software RAID). With karmic however I'm experiencing data loss (at least on the designated backup partition). The partition in question gets mounted once per hour. The respective entry in /etc/fstab is UUID=7420cd8f-dd47-4fdb-b64e-4fd02f945e43 /srv/backup ext3 noatime,nodiratime,user_xattr,acl,noauto,nodev,nosuid,data=journal 0 2 The partition is an LVM2 logical volume which runs on a single PV on a RAID 1 composed of 2 disks (driver is AHCI). I noticed the data loss because I use sitecopy to push the backups to another machine after each backup run. On about 1 out of 3 backup runs sitecopy complains about a corrupted state file. I didn't check the backups for the integrity yet as I can reproduce the problem with sitecopy alone easily. To reproduce it I do: # cd /srv/backup/backup2l/scripts/ # cp data.1001.all.tar.gpg # change something so sitecopy has something to push # sitecopy -r /srv/backup/backup2l/scripts/.sitecopyrc -p /srv/backup/backup2l/scripts/.sitecopy -q -u backup # cd / # umount /srv/backup # mount /srv/backup # less /srv/backup/backup2l/scripts/.sitecopy/backup In about one out of three runs, the last step step shows a corrupted file: Old contents + rest filled with zeros or a truncated file. dmesg and syslog show nothing. In particular no journal-replay related message. Adding a fsck.ext3 -f /dev/vg0/srv_backup before mounting shows no problem either, still the file gets corrupted every now and then. So far I've discovered two ways to work around the problem: * Don't use data=journal. [Bug 483890] [NEW] Race conditions when creating multiple LVM2 snapshots
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lvm2 I'm creating several LVM2 snapshots in quick succession for backup. The attached bash script shows what is done. If I run the script like it is I *always* get error messages on console and in syslog, presumably all coming from udev. The snapshots seem to work fine but I'm a bit uneasy about this. If I add sync; sleep 2; statements between the snapshot commands it gets a bit better, the error messages only show up sporadically then. The system is an update-to-date x86-64 Karmic installation. [Bug 246789] Re: networking stalls between domU using vif
Hi all and Chris, I don't use Xen, the tg3 driver or something else produces this error, too. Yesterday I have found out that disabling AND reenabling checksum validation with 'sudo ethtool -K eth0 tx off rx off; sudo ethtool -K eth0 tx on rx on' fixes the error, too! Another notebook (HP 530) with another ethernet driver and same distribution (ubuntu 8.10) don't have these problems. [Bug 246789] Re: networking stalls between domU using vif
I have a similar/same error with a lenovo s10e and ubuntu 8.10: it uses the tg3 driver for the fast ethernet device: connecting with ssh to the netbook and starting firefox or other big application in this shell, produces an error Disconnecting: Corrupted MAC on input. and I'm disconnected from the s10e. In other direction: starting apps from the s10e on other machines through ssh shell produces no error. I have found a bugfix: calling 'sudo ethtool -K eth0 tx off rx off', after calling this command no errors are produced!!! -- networking stalls between domU using vif https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi after trying to make a USB-Stick bootable (didn't work) I didn't delete the files. One day I forgot this stick in my PC. The PC started normal from hd and then had a complete hangup when initializing the USB-subsystem. My feeling was that nothing external should have any effect on the boot-process. Since I got no response I have overwritten the stick since and recreating the fault will be difficult. I will make a bootable USB-stick again and try once again the next week! regards Jürgen Ott Thanks for taking users serious !! [Bug 138986] Re: [gutsy] HP DJ F380 ejecting blank pages
Actually it may be a PowerPC problem. My report from October was invalid. I have three printers and I rarely use Windows. Before I made my comment, I mainly used the two other printers, so I did not realize that the black printing cartridge on the DeskJet had dried out. Shortly after I made the comment, I had to go to the hospital (for about two months). Sorry for being late in correcting my mistake. As all other reporters seem to use the PowerPC architecture, it may indeed be specific to that architecture. -- [gutsy] HP DJ F380 ejecting blank pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 138986] Re: [gutsy] HP DJ F380 ejecting blank pages
I have a similar problem with a HP DeskJet 5652 (which is connected to the local network with a print server). The printer does not always eject blank pages, it simply forgets to print the text. I no not use a powerpc, so I do not think that the bug is specific to the architecture. For me, the problem occurs both with the i386-version and with the amd64-version of Kubuntu. I will attach both a scan of the printed CUPS-test page and the output of the printingbuginfo script run on my computer. ** Attachment added: test page http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10108957/Testpage.jpeg -- [gutsy] HP DJ F380 ejecting blank pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 131418] Re: Open Office Write styles do not work OK
Hello there, I experience the same problem using NeoOffice 2.1 Patch 0 on MacOsX 10.4.10. After reopening a writer file I inserted another Paragraph using the Numbering (Bullets and Numbering). Instead of the concurrent number I get an 1.1 (2nd level). The bad part is, that the button Restart Numbering, which is a toggable one, should actually allow to switch back and forth between the concurrent and a new Numbering. That doesn't work - The button shows no effect. So in my Opinion this must be a Bug in the OpenOffice Package. Are you going to commit a BugReport at OpenOffice.org? Greetings :oliver -- Open Office Write styles do not work OK https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131418 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Thanks for the answer, Oliver. I actually thought that by writing the original message I had reported a bug to OpenOffice.org. If this is not the case, how does one report a bug since I would like to do that. Greetings Jürgen __ Wippies-vallankumous on täällä! Re: [Bug 131418] Re: Open Office Write styles do not work OK
Hi Jürgen, first it would be helpful to know, which version of Ubuntu and OpenOffice.org you are using. The next question is, if you used another version of OpenOffice.org before, where this bug did not occur. I've never had a similar problem with OpenOffice.org Writer, neither on Linux nor Windows. Are you using consequently styles like Heading 1-3 and so on (in German: Überschrift 1-3 etc.)? And how do you enable the numbering for your headings? Are you using the Option Tools-Outline Numbering (in German: Extras-Kapitelnummerierung) (the right way for getting headings numbered properly) or are you using e.g. the context- menu-entry to enable it for each new heading? Regards, Gert -- Open Office Write styles do not work OK https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131418 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Hi, Gert, and thanks for your answer. I have Ubuntu 7.04 and Openoffice 2.2. (the newest). I have had the problem both in Windows and in Linux. I use consequntly different headings, usually 3 or 4 levels (Heading 1-4, Otsikko 1-4 in Finnish). I have activated the numbering from Tools - Outline Numbering. I have chosen the levels to match the styles (i.e. level 1 - heading 1, level 2, heading 2 etc.) From Format(?) - Bullets and Numbers(?) I have chosen the correct form, i.e. 1 - 1.1 - 1.1.1 - instead of, for instance, 1. -a) - b) etc. It still happens that when I put a heading level 2 in chapter number 4, I get 1.1 and 1.2 etc instead of 4.1 and 4.2 etc. Jürgen __ Wippies-vallankumous on täällä! [Bug 131418] Open Office Write styles do not work OK
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I use constantly OpenOffice Write. Its style management gives constant headache. The automatic numbering of styles (. 1., 1.1., 1.2. etc) sometimes gives 1.1 (or similarly 1.1.1 etc) instead of giving the right number (for instance 4.2. after 4.1.). This happens often. Recently, the heading style should have given an italic font but it gave a normal font instead, although the previous heading of the same level was in italic. These sort of bugs are annoying, since OpenOffice is otherwise superb, especially considering that its open source and FREE! Re: [Bug 67327] Re: xdm interferes with running X
Hey the problem is still there in feisty. It can be reproduced. Before (I think in Edgy) I could switch sessions with ALTF7 and ALTF8 now F8 is not longer associated with a X-Session the second session starting with ALTF9. Starting with this Function-Key-Gap the problem occurred the first time. Even with this bug I need only one strong PC for the family with other members attaching with slow terminals. Imaging doing this with a MS-system. Greetings from Germany Jürgen Ott Am Mittwoch 18 Juli 2007 schrieb Bryce Harrington: Can you please report if this still occurs with Feisty or newer Ubuntu? [Bug 87337] Please include the D compiler gdc into ubuntu
Public bug reported: D is a new programming language. Its focus is on combining the power and high performance of C and C++ with the programmer productivity of modern languages like Ruby and Python. [Bug 67327] xdm interferes with running X
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: x11-common When someone (A) is working on a local X-Session I can get another X Session from a remote computer via xdm. There is no problem until I log out from the remote session. Now (A) gets the ubuntu splash screen and has to to type strgaltF7 to get back to his session.
