Re: [ovirt-users] 4.2 VM Portal -Create- VM section issue

2018-02-19 Thread Tomas Jelinek
Hey Marko,

thank you for all the logs, they helped me to understand the issue!
We have hit something similar and started to fix it (wrongly :) ), so I
explained the real problem here
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-web-ui/pull/494/files#diff-3a773596665964819aa579d52d9feb94
so this PR will fix the actual issue you are facing.

thank you,
Tomas

Re: [ovirt-users] Spice Client Connection Issues Using aSpice

2018-02-19 Thread Jeremy Tourville
Hi Tomas,

To answer your question, yes I am really trying to use aSpice.

I appreciate your suggestion. I'm not sure if it meets my objective. Maybe
our goals are different? It seems to me that movirt is built around portable
management of the ovirt environment. I am attempting to provide a VDI type
experience for running a vm. My goal is to run a lab environment with 30
chromebooks loaded with a spice clent. The spice client would of course
connect to the 30 vms running Kali and each session would be independent of
each other.

I did a little further testing with a different client. (spice plugin for
chrome). When I attempted to connect using that client I got a slightly
different error message. The message still seemed to be of the same nature-
i.e.: there is a problem with SSL protocol and communication.

Are you suggesting that movirt can help set up the proper certficates and
config the vms to use spice? Thanks!

Hello,

I am having trouble connecting to my guest vm (Kali Linux) which is running
spice. My engine is running version: 4.2.1.7-1.el7.centos.

I am using oVirt Node as my host running version: 4.2.1.1.

I have taken the following steps to try and get everything running properly.

  1. Download the root CA certificate
https://ovirtengine.lan/ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource?resource=ca-certificate=X509-PEM-CA
  2. Edit the vm and define the graphical console entries. Video type is set
to QXL, Graphics protocol is spice, USB support is enabled.
  3. Install the guest agent in Debian per the instructions here -
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/guest-agent/install-the-guest-agent-in-debian/
It is my understanding that installing the guest agent will also install the
virt IO device drivers.
  4. Install the spice-vdagent per the instructions here -
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/guest-agent/install-the-spice-guest-agent/
  5. On the aSpice client I have imported the CA certficate from step 1
above. I defined the connection using the IP of my Node and TLS port 5901.

are you really using aSPICE client (e.g. the android SPICE client?). If yes,
maybe you want to try to open it using moVirt
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ovirt.mobile.movirt=en)
which delegates the console to aSPICE but configures everything including the
certificates on it. Should be much simpler than configuring it by hand..

To troubleshoot my connection issues I confirmed the port being used to listen.
virsh # domdisplay Kali
spice://172.30.42.12?tls-port=5901

I see the following when attempting to connect.
tail -f /var/log/libvirt/qemu/Kali.log

140400191081600:error:14094438:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:tlsv1 alert
internal error:s3_pkt.c:1493:SSL alert number 80
((null):27595): Spice-Warning **: reds_stream.c:379:reds_stream_ssl_accept:
SSL_accept failed, error=1

I came across some documentation that states in the caveat section "Certificate
of spice SSL should be separate certificate."
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/pki/

Is this still the case for version 4? The document references version 3.2 and
3.3. If so, how do I generate a new certificate for use with spice? Please
let me know if you require further info to troubleshoot, I am happy to provide
it. Many thanks in advance.

Memory is 128GB

I am following this documentation

2018-02-19 Thread Konstantin Shalygin

Hello,

does someone have experience with cephfs as a vm-storage domain? I think
about that but without any hints...

Thanks for pointing me...

This is bad idea. Use rbd - this is interface for VM, cephfs is for
different things.

Also, can you please describe the current setup of the environment?

I'm not sure I understand, do you have 2 data-centers?

Please attach some screenshots of the current situation.

Hi,

We upgraded one of our infrastructures to 4.2.0 recently and since then some of our
machines have the "Console" button greyed-out in the Admin UI, like they were
disabled.

I changed their compatibility to 4.2 but with no luck, as they're still
disabled.

Is there a way to know why is that, and how to solve it?

I'm attaching a screenshot.

Hi Nicolas.
I had the same problem with most of my VMs after the upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2.
See bugzilla here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1528868
(which admittedly was a mesh of a bunch of different issues that occurred)

yeah, that’s not a good idea to mix more issues:)
Seems https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1528868#c26 is the last one
relevant to the grayed out console problem in this email thread.

it’s also possible to check "VM Devices” subtab and list the graphical devices.
If this is the same problem as from Nicolas then it would list cirrus and it would
be great if you can confirm the conditionas are similar (i.e. originally a 3.6 VM)
I believe it was originally a 3.6 VM. Is there anywhere I can verify
this info? If not, it would be helpful if oVirt kept track of the
version that created the VM for cases just like this.

 VM Device subtab: (no Cirrus)

And then - if possible - describe some history of what happened. When was the
VM created, when was cluster updated, when the system was upgraded and to what
versions.
All I know is that everything was working fine, then I updated to 4.2,
updated cluster version, and then most of my consoles were not
available. I can't remember if this happened before the cluster upgrade
or not. I suspect it was most and not all VMs since some of them had
been created later than 3.6, and this was an older one. I only have
this one VM left in this state because I had deleted the other VMs and
recreated them one at a time...
I will wait to see if you want me to try Vineet's solution of making it
headless,

The before bringing it back up, unchecked headless in the VM

We then had to do a Run-Once which failed
Then did a normal Run.

Console was available, and all hardware came back fine.

... but I won't try that yet in case you need additional information
from the VM first.

[ovirt-users] Setup ovirt-guest-agent from tarball possible?

2018-02-19 Thread Oliver Dietzel
Hi, i try to install ovirt-guest-agent on a Clearlinux vm (already up and
running in our ovirt test cluster).
The usual fedora / el7 rpm's do not work.

Is it possible to install ovirt-guest-agent from a tarball? Or do i have to
rebuild a src rpm?

And where do i find the latest tarball and src rpm of this package / these
packages?

Any help appreciated, thx in advance

[ovirt-users] Fwd: Fwd: why host is not capable to run HE?

2018-02-19 Thread Artem Tambovskiy
Thanks Martin.

As you suggested I updated hosted-engine.conf with correct host_id values
and restarted ovirt-ha-agent services on both hosts and now I run into the
problem with status "unknown-stale-data" :(
And second host still doesn't looks as capable to run HE.

Should I stop HE VM, bring down ovirt-ha-agents and reinitialize-lockspace
and start ovirt-ha-agents again?

Regards,
Artem

I'd suggest to run this command on the engine VM:
 sudo -u postgres scl enable rh-postgresql95 -- psql -d engine -c
 'select vds_name, vds_spm_id from vds'
 (just sudo -u postgres psql -d engine -c 'select vds_name, vds_spm_id
from vds' if still on 4.1) and check
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf on all the involved host.
Maybe you can also have a leftover configuration file on undeployed
 host.

When you find a conflict you should manually bring down sanlock
In doubt a reboot of both the hosts will solve for sure.

that should work, just edit the VM and move to a different cluster. Does it
give any reason why you cannot do that?

> Also live migration fails as well to the new cluster.

yeah, that should not work. How exactly does it fail to migrate? I guess you’re
using the migration dialog and migrate to the new cluster (that’s
removed/hidden in 4.1) It’s going to fail with a specific error/reason (might
be missing network or mismatch in cluster settings). Such error would only be
in vdsm.log somewhere...

Thanks a lot, Simone!

This is clearly shows a problem:

vds_name | vds_spm_id
-+
 ovirt1.local | 2
 ovirt2.local | 1

While hosted-engine.conf on ovirt1.local have host_id=1, and ovirt2.local
host_id=2. So totally opposite values.
So how to get this fixed in the simple way? Update the engine DB?

You define your networks then under cluster-> logical networks you select
which one will be used for migration.

At this point I'm wondering if there is anyone in the community that
freelances and would be willing to provide remote support to resolve this
issue?

We are running with 1/2 our normal hosts, and not being able to add anymore
back into the cluster is a serious problem.

[ovirt-users] issue on engine deployment on oVirt node

2018-02-19 Thread Vincent Kwiatkowski
Hi Folks,

I tried a few time to configure a simple oVirt engine on oVirt node.

After the fresh install of the node, I connect cockpit and launch the
engine setup, then at the end I have the message that I need to connect to
the VM with "hosted-engine --console" or via VNC.

Via VNC, I can't do nothing, have no prompt

using the --console, I have the error:

:internal error: character device console0 is not using a PTY

What can I do to continue the setup?

Thx a lot in advance

[ovirt-users] Moving VMs to another cluster

2018-02-19 Thread Yeun, Chris (DNWK)
?Hello,

How do you move a VM to another cluster within the same data center? I have a
cluster running ovirt 3.5 nodes. I created another cluster with hosts running
CentOS 7 (ovirt 3.6 version) and want to move VMs to this cluster. The
compatibility mode for everything is 3.5.

I tried shutting down a VM, but I cannot select the other cluster. Also live
migration fails as well to the new cluster.

Thanks,

Chris

I'd suggest to run this command on the engine VM:
sudo -u postgres scl enable rh-postgresql95 -- psql -d engine -c 'select
vds_name, vds_spm_id from vds'
(just sudo -u postgres psql -d engine -c 'select vds_name, vds_spm_id from
vds' if still on 4.1) and check
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf on all the involved host.
Maybe you can also have a leftover configuration file on undeployed host.

When you find a conflict you should manually bring down sanlock
In doubt a reboot of both the hosts will solve for sure.

Unfortunately no, I haven't had a chance to create updated documentation.
However the first two links are mostly still accurate as we haven't done any
major changes to the API.

Some things to note that are different from the API documentation in https://
www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/ux/uiplugins/ for 4.2:

- alignRight no longer has any effect, as the UI in 4.2 no longer respects it.
- none of the systemTreeNode selection code does anything (since there is no
more system tree)
- As noted in the documentation itself the RestApiSessionAcquired is no longer
available as we have a proper SSO mechanism that you can utilize at this
point.
- Main Tabs are now called Main Views (but the api still calls them main tabs,
so use the apis described). And sub tabs are now called detail tabs, but the
same thing the API hasn't changed the naming convention so use subTabs.
- mainTabActionButton location property no longer has any meaning and is
ignored.

That is it I think, we tried to make it so existing plugins would remain
working even if some options no longer mean anything.

this two issues are being tracked here:
add disk: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-web-ui/issues/489
add nic: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-web-ui/issues/488

are you really using aSPICE client (e.g. the android SPICE client?). If
yes, maybe you want to try to open it using moVirt (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ovirt.mobile.movirt=en)
which delegates the console to aSPICE but configures everything including
the certificates on it. Should be much simpler than configuring it by hand..

[ovirt-users] Disk image upload pausing

2018-02-19 Thread spfma . tech
Hi, I am trying to build a new vm based on a vhd image coming from a windows
machine. I converted the image to raw, and I am now trying to import it in the
engine. After setting up the CA in my browser, the import process starts but
stops after a while with "paused by system" status. I can resume it, but it
pauses without transferring more. The engine logs don't explain much, I see a
line for the start and the next one for the pause. My network seems to work
correctly, and I have plenty of space in the storage domain. What can cause the
process to pause ? Regards

Hi Matthias,

thanks for your quick response.
I had already tried to use "Change CD" - but there's no effect at all. I also

Also the "run once" option using the floppy does not work as there's simply no
floppy in the setup guide visible (or any other device with the drivers on it).

There's no need for a floppy device.

Steps to take (with oVirt 4.1.9 and Virtio-SCSI disk in VM):
1. "Run once" - "Boot Options" - "Attach CD" to attach the Windows
2016R2 ISO

2. Windows setup starts in console window
3. Choose "Install Windows only"
4. Windows setup presents "Where do you want to install Windows?"
5. oVirt "Change CD" - choose oVirt-toolsSetup-4.15.fc24.iso (has to be
in ISO domain)
6. Windows setup "Load driver" - "No signed drivers found" - OK -
"Browse" - navigate to CD ROM drive "vioscsi - win2016r2 - amd64" folder
- driver is highlighted - Next
7. Windows setup presents "Drive 0 Unallocated Space" (with warning:
"Windows can't be installed on this device")

8. oVirt "Change CD" - choose Windows 2016R2 ISO
9. Windows setup "Refresh"
10. Warning disappears - Press "Next"

I managed to get it working – the only thing that worked for me is changing the
CD at the Webinterface -> Virtual Machines -> mark the VM -> klick on the
„three points“ (further options) on the right side --> and use there the option
„Change CD“.

The other „Change CD“ option directly at the machine via spice or vnc does not
work at all.

Thanks all!

Hi Markus,
I install Windows 2016 just for two weeks, so in general it must work.
Have you insert the windows iso to the dvd drive and the floppy file to the
floppy? After booting and selecting installation, a bit after must come a menu
where you normally choice the hard drive for installation, but this is empty.
There is a button with install driver or something similar. When you click on
it, you can navigate to the floppy drive.
When this is not working, you can also change your HDD to IDE, install Windows.
Add a second drive with virtIO, insert den driver CD install the driver.
Reboot, remove the second HDD and change the main disk to virtIO to.
But this is a bit hacky :).
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

thanks for your quick reply!
I startet with run once and attached the flv to the floppy, but still there’s
no floppy or cd-rom drive with the drivers on it.
Any hint on this?

Markus

Hi Markus,
you need to use the "run onces" option, to be able to insert the floppy.

Hi!

I’m new here – hope you can forgive my „newbie questions“.

I want to install a Server 2016 – so I uploaded both the Windows ISO and the
virtio drivers iso to the ISO Domain location. In the VM Options I can choose
both ISO files.
But as refered in a Howto, I need to use a Floppy device with a flv file. I
found the FLV drivers file, but I cannot find any Floppy device – there’s no
option to choose.
So I tried to add a second CD-Rom because in Proxmox that already did work. But
I cannot find any option to add a second CD-Rom too.

Any idea how I can provide the drivers for the windows installation?

Thanks for any help!
Markus

Hi Markus,

you don't need a second CD Rom or floppy drive. Choose "Run once" - "Boot
Options" - "Attach CD" to attach the Windows ISO. When the install process gets
to detecting storage devices you have to choose "Change CD", where you insert
the VirtIO ISO. When the hard disk is detected you revert back to the Windows
Installer ISO for the rest of the install process.

Good luck

[ovirt-users] Fwd: Install Windows VM issues

2018-02-19 Thread Jon bae
Hi Markus,
I install Windows 2016 just for two weeks, so in general it must work.
Have you insert the windows iso to the dvd drive and the floppy file to the
floppy? After booting and selecting installation, a bit after must come a
menu where you normally choice the hard drive for installation, but this is
empty.
There is a button with install driver or something similar. When you click
on it, you can navigate to the floppy drive.

When this is not working, you can also change your HDD to IDE, install
Windows. Add a second drive with virtIO, insert den driver CD install the
driver. Reboot, remove the second HDD and change the main disk to virtIO to.
But this is a bit hacky :).

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

thanks for your quick reply!

I startet with run once and attached the flv to the floppy, but still
there’s no floppy or cd-rom drive with the drivers on it.

Any hint on this?

Markus

Hi Markus,

you need to use the "run onces" option, to be able to insert the floppy.

Hi!

I’m new here – hope you can forgive my „newbie questions“.

I want to install a Server 2016 – so I uploaded both the Windows ISO and
the virtio drivers iso to the ISO Domain location. In the VM Options I can
choose both ISO files.

But as refered in a Howto, I need to use a Floppy device with a flv file. I
found the FLV drivers file, but I cannot find any Floppy device – there’s
no option to choose.

So I tried to add a second CD-Rom because in Proxmox that already did work.
But I cannot find any option to add a second CD-Rom too.

Any idea how I can provide the drivers for the windows installation?

Thanks for any help!

2018-02-19 Thread Matthias Leopold

Hi Markus,

you don't need a second CD Rom or floppy drive. Choose "Run once" -
"Boot Options" - "Attach CD" to attach the Windows ISO. When the install
process gets to detecting storage devices you have to choose "Change
CD", where you insert the VirtIO ISO. When the hard disk is detected you
revert back to the Windows Installer ISO for the rest of the install
process.

Good luck
Matthias
