Re: [videoblogging] .m4v on blip.tv, not returned as binary media type? (won't play on video iPod)
They will play on the ipod, it only means that blip.tv may need to tell their hosting server that the m4v file type is a movie file type. The servers already know about .mov files, so they are already returning the right type, but m4v is a new file type ... probably just has to be added on the server. But these things take time. I think the identity crisis of the dutch began in july 1995, when the dutch troops charged with protecting the muslim civilian population of sbrenica, ex yugoslavia, abandoned their duties and collaborated with the serbian barbarians. In those days the serbians killed 8.000 men and boys. Re: [videoblogging] Now google maps inside vlogdir member profiles
Hi, Ryan.I didnt have long/lat before but I just added those fields to the edit profile page.Seems to work. You can get longitude and latitudes from http://www.vlogmap.org/submit.php If an address is not entered, then it will fallback on long/lat data and use that... or if neither are filled in, the map will not be displayed.I'd like to interface with vlogmap to some extent send people over there to see who is near them etcetera I'll talk to Matt about it. sullOn 12/29/05, Ryan Ozawa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 12/29/05, Michael Sullivan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: if you are a vlogdir.com member, you can add your address to your profile and this will activate the google map to appear in your profile. could add long/lat option as well if preferred. Cool. How do you specify the long/lat option in the profile editor? I just entered the numbers separated by a comma and a space. I presume it takes a while for profile pages to update, though? [videoblogging] Harold is not (entirely) the Podcaster Herald
Happy Holidays, everyone,Some of you may be familiar with my alter-ego, Podcaster Herald. You may have encountered some of his heralding at the website PodcasterHerald.com, some of which has been controversial within a corner of the vlogosphere. His messages are sometimes provocative, though they're not intended merely to provoke. Hopefully -- and though the Podcaster Herald is still being defined -- hopefully, the fellow will grow and learn and share and converse and do all the wonderful things I'm hoping for in the new year. I realize I'm talking in the third person here. No need for concern; I'm aware of this. The medication is working and all that. It's like this: for some time I've had this idea of creating this persona, this other Harold -- in this case, a Herald -- that was not quite me but was kind of me, too. I'm still working out the concept, but I hope you'll all bear with me. I mean no harm, and neither does Podcaster Herald. I just wanted to use that domain and webhost that I'd already paid a year for, and have some fun learning a bit about video podcasting, too. I guess what I'm trying to say is, please bear with me. I believe I, Harold, want to be a part of this community. Any criticisms I make in my own domain(s) are not necessarily directed at any of you -- certainly not in a personal way -- though I admit that some of the criticism may turn out to be helpful for some of you anyway. I'm not implying that I know any more than any of you about video production, or vlogging, or video podcasting, or whatever it may be referred to as. Certainly that's not the case, and though I've studied some aspects of film (an *entirely* different medium), I have a great deal to learn about videoblogging (from *all* of you). I will say, however, that it's likely I'll have some things to say once in awhile, through the Podcaster Herald -- some messages from a podcaster -- that you may not always appreciate, or understand the intent of; but I aim to please, not to anger. Criticism -- thoughtful criticism -- is not designed merely to provoke, but is aimed at constructing new levels of analysis, consideration of techniques and art and other matters. What I've already learned: videoblogging/podcasting is not always art. Case in point: one of my own video (blog) postings at Something That Happened: http://www.somethingthathappened.com/2005/12/i-lie-about-most-things-but-this-is.htmlObviously not the most *compelling* of videos; but I share it with you because I want you to know that I'm just posting whatever, too, regardless of all the Podcaster Herald's high-falutin' notions. Because while this linguistic corner cutting may work for you... 99% of people are not going to know that by "video podcast" you mean a "video feed" without web based blog. It's well beyond wether they might agree with your use of the terminology or not... your arbitrary assigning of terminologies is a hindrance to communication.I agree there are those "video feeds" that are just "video feeds"... so... there's the distinction... it's just a "video feed"... What I have an argument with... is this distinction that they are only "video podcasts" What is a podcast? Does a podcast mean that it only has an RSS feed? Do not like 99.9% of all audio podcasts have a web based blog element? One or two people might agree with you including Steve Garfield... but I would say it's an completely arbitrary assumption and therefore a terminology that's wanton for argument, trolling and flaming I'm saying just use specific known language to make your distinctions and everyone will be able to follow a lot easier Not: "The Washington Post has no video blog, they only have a video podcast."But, less argumentative"The Washington Post has no video blog, they only have an RSS video feed."It's less argumentative.. it's more clear.Or if you disagree then argue with this statement which I've also heard here..."The Washington Post has no video blog, they only have a vodcast."Honestly... I still don't know what that's suppose to mean, which is my point exactly... If your going to discuss the language... then by all means discuss the language... BUT you're using your language in holding a discussion about the merits of these variations of videoblogging... which is confusing the issue between the value judgments you make with the terms... Hence when I say... "Video feeds with ONLY a feed and no corresponding web page for commenting suck!" people KNOW what I'm talking about... Hence when you say "Video podcasts suck!" people all jump up in arms saying "what the hell do you mean video podcasts suck?"... and then the conversation descends into the same old conversation about 'definitions'.If you don't intend it to descend into this conversation about terminology... and do intend to keep it as a platonic conversation about the merits of different variations on video blogging mechanisms you'd refrain from using those terms which confuse the issue and alienate people. While language does need to evolve and hence be experimented with... if it is NOT the point of your argument why make such assuming use of terminologies... why bother making up such arbitrary distinctions when there are perfectly good terms that do this... it's an "RSS video feed" or a "video feed" not a "video podcast" because while you can site perhaps 5 or 10 people who agree with you about your arbitrary use of the term "video podcast" and person B might site a couple dozen who see no such distinction and see video blog and video podcast as one in the same... and ALL OF THAT WOULD BE MUTE... Because I'm saying to you right now the majority of people are probably scratching their heads and saying "video blog / video podcast? what in the heck are they all talking about!"So, in summary... do what you like... but know that in using terms such arbitrary terms unnecessarily you're the ones responsible for bringing about these debates about "defining" that I see so often and defeating your own attempts to have an interesting public conversation on the merits of the many flavors of video blogging. We only have these debates because in using these terms unnecessarily you've "posed the question" about them. People are merely asking the most obvious question.. "What do you mean video podcasting?" which leads right back to the same old silly "defining" discussion. :)I personally feel that if we're setting out to discuss distinctions we can have far more in depth conversations and make far more distinctions... as I pointed out in my last email... if we stick to the terms that already exist for such stuff... In short there are THOUSANDS of variations on the video blog... some don't have RSS... some don't have permalinks... some have just RSS... while you can argue about their legitimacy or utility all you want... please do not just arbitrarily go... heh... those ones without permalinks... those one I'm going to call "video podcasts" even though I could just call them "video feeds with no corresponding web page" and everyone would know exactly what I was talking about.Anyway... it's all in good fun... I've indulged in the issue... it has nothing to do with the real issues which we claim to be discussing... it's just an

Re: [videoblogging] Hosts for video podcasts?
Non-free, Libsyn seems a popular choice. (They're known for podcast hosting, but I know several videobloggers/video podcasters use them as well.) Still unsure how their hosting model can sustain itself, but for now, the price is pretty darn good given the size of file they're happy to serve for a fixed price. For free, I still use the Internet Archive (I'm generally avoiding the Ourmedia interface), and just started using Blip.TV. The latter is a service that I appreciate enough that I'm actually looking forward for them to introduce their pro/paid options. -- Ryan HawaiiVog - Videoblogging in paradise. http://www.lightfantastic.org/imr/extras/videoblog Yahoo! That may take some time. ;) Enric wrote: --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, andrew michael baron [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I posted a video that hotlinks into my site that is a complete package: http://blogs.opml.org/andrewBaron/ Don't know if this will translate onto the message board, but all you do is enter this code anywhere, and the video appears with all its comments, tags, etc. as part of the work: embed src='' height='286'width='330'/embed Pretty clever. Re: [videoblogging] Now google maps inside vlogdir member profiles
yep, i think matt is working on an easier way for me to link to vlogmap passing some url parameters... pref the feed url.i requested that and i'm sure once everyone regains sanity, some more loose integrations will come about. glad you updated your profile... let me know if you have any questions.sullOn 12/29/05, Ryan Ozawa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 12/29/05, Michael Sullivan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I didnt have long/lat before but I just added those fields to the edit profile page. Thanks! [videoblogging] College Videobloggers?
the CollegeWit.com site makes college videos: http://collegewit.com/index.php?cat=15 one's like this one: (GMAT Hysteria) http://collegewit.com/media/videos/GMAT.wmv- is a satire on standard tests to get into grad school (Feminazi Rant) - observation about why college guys shouldn't be obsessed with Boobs, sex and makeup http://collegewit.com/media/videos/Feminazi_Rant.wmv We discovered the Gay Porn Section in Barnes and Nobles while shopping for our school texts http://collegewit.com/media/videos/brainygayerotica.wmv we put up both original content and other amusing videos we find on the net- which we then analyze and often write articles around, so we're never just regurgitating meme's- we're showing the meme's from our perspective.. we're working on getting a regular flow of content up - but the caution is quality- our market niche (college students) like pointless sensationalism...so unless one person is willing to jump around like a moron day in and out, it's not easy to put up entertaining college themed videos daily. :) obreahny SPONSORED LINKS Individual Fireant Typepad Use YAHOO! [videoblogging] Re: .m4v on blip.tv, not returned as binary media type? (won't play on video iPo
This is just an issue of using the M4V extension. It's a file extesion that Apple made up recently (with the release of the ipod video) and you can just change the file name to read .mp4 instead and it will work just fine. The new ipods will play files with .mov, .mp4 and the Apple invented .m4v file extesions as long as they are encoded to ipod specs. [videoblogging] 3ivx compression -- Help!
I've been doing some tests with 3ivx and QuickTime, but have not been getting file size economy that is any better than MPEG4 or H.264. I got the idea of usinig 3ivx from the Rocketboom tools documentation. It was very helpful and generous, but I'm afraid I need some more guidance aboput specific settings. The whole subject of compression has been, quite frankly, something that I've been avoiding because it is so confusing with its own language and parameters that, to me, don't make much sense. I am developing a vlog that will a lot of footage of horses in motion. I am trying to keep the bit rate as low as possible to avoid stuttering while showing some sense of motion as clean as possible on DSL bandwidth. What I am looking for from this list is some pointers to instruction about compression that is somewhere between the Freevlog tutorials and the 3ivx documentation. I'd appreciate any advice.ThanksStan Hirsonhestakaup.blogspot.com SPONSORED LINKS Individual Fireant Typepad Use YAHOO! GROUPS LINKS Visit your group "videoblogging" on the web.
