Another thing that being on Twitter allows us to do is take this
conversation out of the list more - and use Twitter tags to aggregate
tweets and discussions around a subject. So if you're posting a
message here about an issue or event, you can start your subject line
with #navlopomo2008 or #pixelodeon, say, and the tweeted version of
your message can then be easily found along with other tweets on the
 same subject.

Re: [videoblogging] Miro Not Working Well for Me

2008-02-23 Thread Tim D
I also had problems enough with Miro that I have switched full-on to
Netvibes. I used Miro for about a month, and found that it didn't
always update feeds when it was supposed to, and no matter how many
times I would attempt to remove a file from the list once I had
watched it, it would always be there when I opened up the program the
next day.

Netvibes has been working great for me. I love the way it is set-up,
and I like that I can organize more than just my RSS feeds. I can
view my e-mail, Flickr photos, ebay, craigslist, and the weather all
in one place (among many other possibile combinations). It updates
feeds when it is supposed to, and I can easily toggle between the feed
view in Netvibes and the vloggers actual website. Really liking it.
Anyway, my two cents.

[videoblogging] RSS Feed Distributing Wrong Video

2008-01-16 Thread Tim D
Hi Everyone,

I know this has been addressed in the past, but I can't seem to find
it in a list search. I just realized that my RSS feed picked up a
video I linked to on Jan McLaughlin's fauxpress.blogspot.com in a
recent post instead of the video that I actually made. When I open up
my RSS reader the video that plays in my feed is Jan's and not mine.
Here is the link to the post to which I am referring:
http://realitysandwich.wordpress.com/2008/01/13/bold-statements-all-around/

I can't figure out why this might be happening. I have not linked
directly to Jan's video url in my post, but to Jan's archived post url
instead, so I know that isn't the problem. Any ideas why my feed is
not picking up my video? All I can think of is that there is
something wrong with the way I embedded the vid on my site using
blip.tv. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Vloggers,

Some of you may remember me, and many of you probably have no clue who
I am. My name is Tim, and I used to set up shop at a place called
Reality Sandwich on Typepad (and I even posted on wearethemedia.com
now and then). One day I decided I didn't want to vlog anymore, and I
walked away. Sometimes I regret that decision, and sometimes I know
it was necessary. Either way, I have been out of the vlogging loop
for a little over a year. What's done is done. Fortunately, I am
happy to say that I have gotten the itch back (mostly because I just
discovered Twitter, and found many of my old vlogging friends there).
After being gone for so long the idea of jumping back in is more than
intimidating, but I'm doing it anyway! I've moved my site over to
Wordpress now, and I hope it becomes as much of a home as my previous
site was. For the time being I am posting some of my old videos to
get reacquainted with the process. My feed is up and working, so
please stop by and say hello. You can find me at
realitysandwich.wordpress.com. Looking forward to the dialogue.

Happy Almost New Year,

[videoblogging] Here's your chance: WATM Feedback

2006-01-24 Thread Tim D
Hi Everyone,

As some of you may know, we recently held a We Are The Media video
conference. During this conference we discussed a number of things.
We talked about the ever-changing dynamics of videoblogging, the
re-structuring of WATM to a membership-type site, and most importantly
what we can do to make WATM a hub of information, conversation, and
interaction for vloggers everywhere.

It is very important to all of us at WATM that we are giving you the
kind of useful information that you desire in a way that keeps things
fun and interesting. Therefore, we wanted to put out some feelers to
see exactly where our strengths and weaknesses lie. What advice do
you have for us? What would you like to take away from a visit to
wearethemedia.com? What do you like, and what don't you like? Do you
want to see more SpeedVlogging competitions, or perhaps you really
liked Remixoff 2005? You tell us how to be better reporters, and
while you're at it why don't you join the cause and be the media with
us?

Please use this thread as a way to sound-off. If you feel
uncomfortable discussing suggestions in such an open forum, feel free
to e-mail any WATM reporter off-list. We always enjoy your comments
and e-mails. Keep on vlogging!

I want to turn the page for a minute. Move away from the technical
aspects of software and cameras and celebrity. Talk about the
organics of vlogging. Stick with me. Listen while I flow. Have you
experienced that moment? You know the one I mean...when you've
finished editing a video, and it's perfect. You can just feel that
it's exactly the way it needs to be. You don't want to touch one more
millisecond of footage. Maybe you're editing film of an event that
meant a great deal to you. Maybe you're making it for someone else so
that they can experience what you did. Or maybe you're just
documenting a memory that you can watch whenever you need a laugh...or
a cry. A smile curves your lips. You find yourself watching it over
and over again. The sound track is right, the cuts are right.
Everything is right. Everything comes together, like vlog Nirvana.
How does it feel for you? Is it Physical? Emotional? Both? Have
you experienced it?

I have. It rocks.

Something tells me that the high school may not appreciate Starfire
showing a video of Verdi's, as awesome as he is, naked ass to a group
of their students. I don't doubt the kids would get a huge kick out
of it. However, take it from someone who works in a high school:
unless it's a school unlike most in this country, avoid any video with
anything that could be deemed coarse or brazen by the conservative
masses. It only takes one dissenter to put the kibosh on the whole
thing.

[videoblogging] Help - Tranferring files from Canon ZR100 to Windows Notebook

2005-08-18 Thread Tim D

Hey everyone,

I turn to your wisdom and guidance because I am all out of ideas.
What I thought would be a simple process has turned into a
hair-pulling-task. I recently received a Canon ZR100 MiniDV camcorder
as a gift. I just went out and got a firewire card and cable so I
could transfer videos and get with the times. They work fine. No
more digital still camera video for me...or so I thought! I can't
figure out how to transfer my video from the damn thing. I am all
excited about creating vlog posts with my new toy, but right now I am
ready to throw it out the window. Does anyone have any idea how I
might go about getting my media off of my camera? E-mail me off list
if this is too off-topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: [videoblogging] recording video directly into a PC program

2005-08-15 Thread Tim D

Jay,

Here's what moviemaker says in the help section under video capturing:

Capturing video
You can capture video and audio to your computer by using Windows Movie
Maker. To begin capturing, a video capture device must be connected
properly and detected on your computer by Windows Movie Maker. Some audio and
video capture devices and sources that you can use include a digital video (DV)
or analog camera or VCR, a Web camera, a TV tuner card, or a microphone. You can
capture
content live or from video tape.

When capturing video and audio in Windows Movie Maker, the Video Capture
Wizard proceeds as follows:

Select the capture devices you want to use. For more information about
choosing capture devices, see Choosing a
video and audio capture device.
Specify where you want your captured audio and video file to be saved. For
more information about choosing a destination for your captured audio and video
file, see Choosing a saving
destination.
Choose the video setting. For more information about choosing a video
setting for capturing video and audio, see Choosing a video setting.
If you are capturing audio and video from a video tape in a DV camera or DV
VCR, choose the method you want to use to capture video and audio. For more
information, see Choosing how to capture
from a DV device.
Capture the video and audio. For more information, see Capturing video and audio.

 Note

If you have a DV camera connected to an IEEE
1394 port, the camera must be turned on for it to be detected by Windows
Movie Maker.

So...it looks like the answer is yes, you can directly record into
moviemaker. E-mail me if you need me to research anything else on
MM.
