RE: purchased an ap but can not install it
In iTunes go to the Store (on the menu bar) and arrow down until you find Authorize this computer. You will be prompted for your Apple ID and password. Re: Bluant Q2 What do I do?
My guess is you haven't found the on/off switch. It is not very apparent at all. It is located in the back where you plug the USB charger in. It almost feels like one of the sides of the USB connector. If you look very carefully you will see a very small slide switch that slides up and down. Off is up tward the top of the earpiece and down (on) is twards the bottom of the earpiece. Hope this helps. Sandy, I use quick nav for almost all of my VO commands. If I want to read an email in it's entirety, I then use my twfinger swipe up or down. Quick Nav is good for reading line by line with the right and left arrow keys, and for selecting an item with the up down arrow keys simultaneously. It''s also very easy to rotate and use your roter functions via use of the right or left arrow and up arrow keys I found an excellent youtube video by Luis Perez on use of the Bluetooth keyboard with voice oever.. Re: Refreash-a-Braille Connection Problem
After plugging it in and removing it a few times I have found that it has become a bit easier to manage. I figured out that once you get it into the slot, using my finger nail works to get it seated just that last little bit. Same goes for disconnecting it. I just use my finger nail to pull it out a bit and then remove it the rest of the way with the cord. I have also tried to use other cables and they pretty much work the same way. Keith On Jul 19, 2012, at 5:49 AM, Scott Howell wrote: Les, I know this is not much as an answer, but with Time I have just managed to hit the hole pretty accurately. THe connection is not super tight so what I have done to remove it is grab the connector as close to the connecting point as I can and work it out. One suggestion I read about and had not gotten around to trying is adapting a really stiff wire or some piece of material that you can rap tape to the usb cable. THis would provide a firmer section to the cable which makes it easier to maneuver. Although if you have the case I know a lot of folks just leave the cable attached and store it behind the flap of the case when closed. I believe there is a solution, but it would take resources to implement. We resorted to using a fork to push thew connector in the final distance, but this is no solution. Also, because the USB port and accompanying plug are not exposed, it appears once must remove the plug by pulling on the wire, again not a good idea. I know a number of you use this display. Do you use the USB cable that came with the unit, or did you get a thinner USB cable? Quite honestly, I am surprised at what I consider to be a really poorly designed connector for this display. Re: anagrams
Hi, Worder is a good anagram game. I don't remember whether it's free because I got it a long time ago. There are four unlabeled buttons near the top of the opening screen and many of the other screens. From left to right, they are New game Resume game Instructions Configuration The configuration screen is mostly accessible, xcept that most of the unlabeld buttons are Info, and the final one is Done. Also, you can't flick to all the controls, but you can touch them. On this screen, you decide whether to allow 3-letter words, whether adding S is necessary, whether to use American or British spelling, and a few more things. When you're playing a game, there is a group of 8 letters, each of which is a button. Double-tap a letter button, and the letter appears in a text box below the letters. When you have all the letters entered, flick to the Plus button to the right of the text field, and double-tap it. There's no sound, but your total number of words goes up and the word is added to the list. Both of these pieces of info are available after the text box. There's also a Cross button that deletes what's in the text box. If there's nothing in the text box, it seems to cross out the last word you entered and not let you enter that word again. I'm not sure why. There's also a Flag button. This lets you forfeit the game. There's no time limit, which I love. It's my understanding too, that you cannot remove any of the folders that come with the phone. I've seen others make a folder and call it unused or something like that, move all that stuff into it, and put it somewhere so it's not a bother. Re: anagrams
Peter Damen's Worder. Worder is a challenging anagram word game which tests your ability to find words within a set of nine letters. Worder requires no internet connection and is great for plane flights, commuting on subways and remote travel destinations. The object of the game is to make as many words as possible, and find the one word using all nine letters too. Worder has no timers, explosions or music, just sit down for a relaxing game of Worder, playing at your own pace. Worder includes many game options, including a Shared Letter mode where all words should include the highlighted letter, or standard mode that allows you to use all letters. The minimum word length for a game can also be selected, which can limit the number of words that need to be found. Worder also includes 6 difficulty levels, so that Worder can cater for those who are intimidated by games with large word sets, to those people who are word game experts. Level 6 includes all words, where lower levels include a subset of the entire word list, based on how commonly words are used in everyday language and text. You can challenge your friends by sending your current game for them to play. See if they can beat your score. Just had to say that this is brilliant news! I was looking at the featured area of the app store today and clicked on productivity. And guess which app was right at the top of the list? That's right, Fleksy! Personally I think this is great news. It means apple has really taken notice of this app. That's really the first step to getting an app like this integrated with ios, or at least standard apps within ios. Even if apple doesn't take steps to work with Fleksy, it's still encouraging to see that Fleksy hasn't slipped under the radar by any means. Hope you are all having a lovely day. Yes, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, or a Mac computer. Also be aware that if you just let it go to sleep, any key press will wake up your device. I got into the habit of taking out a battery when I put it in a bag or brief case to make sure it didn't wake up the device and leave it running. Re: Kindle books
Removing the DRM is legal in the case of accessibility issues. This ruling was made in July 2011. I have converted Kindle books in the past, but I avoid Kindle books if I can. Vashaun, I think that any scanning app that requires us to tap the start scanning button while simultaneously attempting to hold the camera steady and straight is not considering the needs of those of us who are totally blind. It may work if you have enough vision to help you align, but it sure isn't working for me! I am sorry I bought it. RE: The Sherlock Holmes Of OCR Apps
I think this scanning apps discussion is very interesting. I am one of those who could not get prismo or Saytext to work at all, but can with Text Detective. I suppose that really it all comes down to, (just like with anything else,) what works for one isn't always going to work for another. Meanwhile, am I the only one who wishes that if they bought an app and didn't like it or it didn't work for them, but maybe it would work for someone else, that they could gift their coppy to them? At least then your money isn't going to waste. *smile* Amy Billman Check out my company for your screen protector and phone accessory needs! Re: The Sherlock Holmes Of OCR Apps
Sandy, I am the one that wrote this blog post, and I completely agree with you about the tapping to start the scan issue. I think that is important to remember that this is the first version of this app, and it might be a good idea if those of us who have bought this app contact the developer with our comments so that they will know what some of our issues with the app is. I for one have had very good results with Text Detective and have no trouble recommending it to others. I really do appreciate your comments and if you didn't leave a comment on our blog would you please do so? This is how we will be able to keep track of how many people we are getting to read our blog posts. If you have any suggestions as to an app or something with the iPhone that I can write please let me know and I will see if I can put a future post. together. Scott E. Hi Amy, This is why I wish that more developers would have a demo version of their apps available from their website. Of course then we would all have to go to their websites, but I that this would be what all of the developers would want. Scott E. Advice on best way to communicate with app developers, and what to ask for re: accessibility, VoiceOver compatibility, etc
Hi, I'm not real tech savvy, but there are times I'd like to communicate with app developers about no accessibility, suboptimal accessibility, or suboptimized accessibility, particularly incomplete button labeling for VoiceOver, etc. I'd appreciate advice on how to best approach app developers to raise these concerns, and what I should say, to increase the best chances of a positive and complete, thorough response. Re: I am learning how to do this and I'll start with a couple of basic questions.Navigating through email with QuikNav
Sandy,Wwhen Quick Nav is on, you can use short cut keys to navigate to various web site elements with asingle key. For example, L will take you to links; h to headers; f to form controls, etc. Shift plus those keys will reverse uour order in scrolling through those elements. As far as reading through a site, again I use the on screen jestures: two fingers up and down. I have an iPad and find web navigation particularly difficult since the screen is large and the web site configurations are generally more complex and confusing than with the iPhone. Check out the youtube video on using the Apple wireless keyboard with voice over, as well as the one titled Top Five voice over features in IOS 5, also by Luis Perez. I never buy apps that way and I have heard tell it's a bit convoluted, although I can't really say. I purchase them directly from the App Store. App store is one of the apps that was on the home screen when you bought your phone. Click on it and on the bottom you will find some choices: search, categories, update, top 25, featured. If there is a particular app you want use Search and type the app name into the search field and Apple will find it. You can also browse categories. I personally find that tedious because the apps are not in alphabetical order so, unless I have missed some kind of secret code, finding one seems random at best. You need to have a credit card on file to do all of this. Once you say you want to buy an app or install a free app, you will need your Apple password. Re: The Sherlock Holmes Of OCR Apps
I think it would make sense to recommend that the developer consider allowing you to leave the phone flat on the paper and once the button is tapped, have you lift until the page is in view for the camera. In other words combine the functionality of SayText and Text Detective. Seems a marriage of both apps would produce a pretty interesting result. Howdy. As far as I know, MyWi isn't accessible with voiceover, reason we all decided to use PDANet. Take care. Re: The Sherlock Holmes Of OCR Apps
While I agree that having an automatic shoot option is a great idea, not having one has not hindered me from using this app. I have gotten pretty good results with it. I have used both SayText and Prizmo and had trouble with each of them. SayText gave me no good results. Prizmo, while sometimes giving me good results, took way too long just to get the results. So I found that the app was not worth using. I find that TextDetective works best with single pages that are lying completely flat. It also works well with bigger books. I found paperbacks hard to hold open, And I never got legible results with them. The app also states that magazines do not work well with it either. I found that to be true unless the magazine was all text. I did have a magazine that I knew was all text, and that worked very well. I know that this app will not work well for everyone, but these are just my experiences. Text Detective [was Re: The Sherlock Holmes Of OCR Apps]
Are you saying that the subject line should be changed to include Text Detective so people wanting information on Text Detective could easily find it in the future? If so, I went ahead and added that to the subject line, but there's no reason you couldn't have done that as well Jon! *smile* This is not a serious complaint or criticism, but just a gentle nudge. Also, although it's true that Text Detective wasn't in the subject line, OCR was, so I think most people looking for information on Text Detective would still stumble across it, but thinking about good subject lines is a good point. Re: ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR PROBLEM WITH STORES?
In that case, leave well alone. In some cases though it is necessary to change the DNS settings of your connection to access services that are otherwise blocked by your router's DNS. A DNS is simply a server that translates those strange numbers into proper, human readable names. Pandora's free version will let you create radio stations of your favorite artists. Let's say one of your faves is The eagles. When you create an Eagles station Pandora will include other artists they think you will like, either because they are that era or they sing each other's songs; Jackson Brown or the Grateful Dead would probably be on that station. If you dislike a song you hear you give it a thumbs down. After two thumbs down, that artist will no longer be included in that station. Also, you can skip a maximum of six songs per each listening session for each station. All you need to do is put up with an occasional ad. There are folks on this list who will help if you need it. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Michael Amaro Sent: Saturday, July 21, 2012 4:32 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: purchased an ape but cannot install it How accessible is it with voice over? -- From: Sandy Finley finleykn...@gmail.com Sent: Saturday, July 21, 2012 1:25 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: purchased an ape but cannot install it Pandora's free version will let you create radio stations of your favorite artists. My husband has been more conscientious (or neurotic, depending on your viewpoint) about liking and disliking songs aND artists and he's got a couple of nearly custom made stations on his Droid. Now, I am told that creating an account with Pandora is tricky. I had trouble doing it on my phone but I was a real new iPhone user so am not sure if I could do it now or not; at the time my I T stepson was here eating my food and drinking my beer and was glad to do it for me. I love Pandora!! It's important to make sure you are speaking directly into the microphone of the iPhone. That is because the original message in this thread was the title of the blog post. On Jul 21, 2012, at 3:26 PM, Jon Pierson wrote: Hi, Just a quick comment on the subject line here. I would recommend that you experiment with this and each time that you get a scan with a lot of gibberish just move the phone a little closer to your document.
