IPhone And GMail

2014-06-16 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Hello friends,

I wonder if anyone is able to help me out?
I have a Gmail account and I would like to use it with my IPhone.
There are around 3000 messages in my inbox as I have not used the account for a
while, I need to clear them out and I am having problems doing this.
I have my Gmail account configured with Microsoft outlook and it is almost
empty in Outlook but it is still showing the 3000 messages on my IPhone.
Can anyone tell me how to clear out Gmail?
I logged in to the web interface but I can't seem to find out how to delete
everything.
I deleted the Gmail account on my PC and re-activated it but the 3000 messages
don't come back for me to be able to delete them from there.

Know what you mean. I liked the older layout better when they had the tabs
along the bottom and the searchbox was easier to find, but now you have to go
looking for the searchbox, and as you say, the buttons for menu etc are all
over the place. You can only find stuff like basket and wishlist once you go
into the menu button now.

The scrub gesture was so much easier to use, but you have to look for the back

Messages: Huge Lag When Typing

2014-06-16 Thread SSEric
This seems to have just begun last week. I haven't changed anything, that I
can think of. I am not sure if it is just IMessages because that is
primarily all I send.

When in the edit field to type a new message or when doing edits, There is
about a 2-second lag between tapping the screen and it speaking the input.
This is whether entering a letter or reading a word.

I have looked at my phone and there is over 4gb of free space on a 16gb
IPhone 5 running the latest updates. Verizon.

Can anyone think what might have gone wrong or suggest what to try to fix
whatever it is.

All thanks!

Eric

Teresa, thanks, butI do not see the help there.

Heck I couldn't even find it in a quick go-through at Apple.com.

Maybe Apple has adopted Google's view that the user is not their customer,
but those who develop for and sell through Apple. They copy everything else
they do in Android, so why not! SMILE

Thanks for any further suggestions.

After reading this post, I realized I hadn't used kobo for a long
time and definitely not since I got my braille display. I
decided to try it on my ipad and was able to sign in and download
some of my books. But I am having a problem. Both braille and
speech keep jumping around with page 1 of 3 or page 2 of 3 or
page 3 of 3 being announced no matter what screen I'm in. When I
get into a book I just get started reading and suddenly I hear
page 1 of 3 or one of the other page options, seems to cycle
between 1 2 and 3, and so I can't continue reading though I can
see bits and pieces of the book. I do remember there used to be
something complicated that needed to be done to set kobo up to be
accessible and I wonder if this is the problem. I'm sure this
has been discussed and posted before but help would be
appreciated as it has been a very long time since I used it.

Try a soft or hard reset. A soft reset is accomplished with pressing the
sleep/wake button a few times. A hard reset is accomplished by pressing

also want to download and install iEncrypt which was talked about on

RE: Messages: Huge Lag When Typing

2014-06-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Eric,

Before I do the hard reset using Hone and Power buttons together, I would
first try to clear the app switcher, then turn the phone off, wait for 30
seconds and turn it back on.
If this doesn't help I would next once again clear the app switcher, then go
to Settings, General, Reset (at the very bottom) and select to Reset
Network Settings.
This will reset all your radios and reboot the phone as well.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Try a soft or hard reset. A soft reset is accomplished with pressing the
sleep/wake button a few times. A hard reset is accomplished by pressing
and holdin both home and sleep/wake for at least ten seconds. You may
also want to download and install iEncrypt which was talked about on
here recently. This cleans up junk from your phone and used to be called
iClean.

One thing that works nicely is to swipe between People, Recents and
Favorites instead of finding the buttons at the top. You can double tap
and hold either on the left side of the phone and swipe across to the

across to the left. This will smoothly and seamlessly move between

For those who didn't see my previous post as to how you can remove

 1. Double tap on the contact you want to remove
 2. Double tap on the More button at the bottom right
 3. Double tap on the Block button from the menu which pops up (the

other option is Add to Favorites

and No (the latter is if you change your mind and want to do nothing).

Re: Messages: Huge Lag When Typing

2014-06-16 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi all,

For those who do as suggested in the message below, doesn't the procedure
increase the probability of file damage to the OS and such?

I have never had any problems simply powering down my iDevice in the usual
safe manner of holding down the power button for about 3 seconds.

Just asking because if doing it the safe way works, then why increase the
chance for more problems by using such extreme methods as suggested below. I
understand at times it might be necessary to use the methods described
below, but in most cases it is not though the person often suggests this
unorthodox manner of powering down.

This cleans up junk from your phone and used to be called
iClean.

RE: Skype's New Features Outweigh Rolling Back To A Previous Version

2014-06-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Eileen,

If being able to delete recent items is that important to you than you could
delete Skype and put the older version back. I think that the ability to
delete chat history will be back in one of the next updates since a lot of
people on various forums complained about it. As far as I can tell this
really is the only feature that is missing. On the otherhand if you use
Skype for calling landlines and if entering numbers is something you might
have to do then you gain touch typing for the in-call DialPad which I find
super nice and I would not go back and do without that. Besides that I like
the new interface better

Re: IPhone And GMail

Hello, if you open up the mail app on the iPhone, epic checks and sees that
there is no mail there and then everything will start to delete. If you want,
you can going to settings mail contacts calendars and select every 15 minutes
and it will delete the mail every 15 minutes if you are deleting it from
Outlook. As far as using the Gmail interface to delete these email messages,
you can go to the website and the check boxes in the mail also delete from
there as well. You can delete 50 at a time. But that will not allow them to
start believing from your iPhone until you going and make the changes as I

Hi all,

We are going on vacation next Month to a town that is suppose to be very
walkable. I want to enter the address of the hotel plan some future walks
to shops, restaurants, dog friendly area etc. At this point on my iPhone, I
have no special GPS apps. I have maps, google maps, map quest, and a
handful of public transit apps. It is a small town we are going to, so
public transit won't apply.

:) What do you suggest? I have of course heard of blind square Ariadne
gps, would you recommend one of those? Something else?

I thought I'd look at around me and walk score, but I'm not sure these apps
will do what I want.

I'd love to use the app and pretend I'm on Front street walking in the town.
If you know what I mean.

Thanks,
Traci

I would suggest the app places around. I have used this app on many ocassions
to find restruants, shopping, parks, museums etc before our vacations. The app
is fully accessible and POI's are seperated into categories for ease of
searching.

Here's the link to Places Around in the app store.

Re: Exploring a future destination

2014-06-16 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi Traci,

It would help if you could tell us what city/town you're going to visit,
that way if there's a specialty app for that city/town, someone from that
city/town could tell you if it exists.

For example, if you were coming to Toronto, I would tell you that you could
visit the Toronto website, see what's in Toronto that would be worth seeing,
and you could take public transit to each location, as all tourist
destinations in Toronto are accessible by public transit.

In any case, if you're to rely solely on the GPS apps on your iPhone, you'll
kill your battery, and not have a way to get back. This way, you'll know
your destination, and have a more reliable way of finding out about your
destination.

Maps question

2014-06-16 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.

I know that if I want to use iOS maps to find a route with bus directions, I
will have to download a third party app. But I cannot find the area in Maps
where it prompts me to download one from a list and connects directly to
those apps.

Help appreciated.

Re: Blind Square

2014-06-16 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi Todd,

You will undoubtedly get much more pertinent information if you directly
contact the Blind Square developers because they know their product better
than anyone else, and if they don't already have the Deaf/blind help you
need, they would be in the best position to address your needs. You also
have the option of installing the app for yourself and reviewing it for
accessibility. As a blind person I often find myself in the same position as
you in terms of wondering if the app of interest is accessible, and because
I often cannot find any information regarding accessibility using the
various resources available to us, I simply install and see for myself. Yes,
at times I lose a couple of dollars here and there, but I think of the cost
as a benefit to the list as a whole when I can thell them not to install the
non-accessible app. A couple of weeks ago I read a post on this list from
someone whose last name was Santo, I believe the full name may have been
Jeff Santo. This person needed to find an app which would read some sort of
barcodes for his business. He stated he installed and uninstalled about 200
apps before finding one which would meet his accessibility needs. When I
read his post I immediately thought this guy is a doer. This is a person
who will survive even if you drop him off in the middle of a jungle with an
ice cream scoop and a pair of nail clippers. He obviously isn't waiting
around for the government to provide him with laws to use as weapons to
berate others into submission.

I speak out on behalf of the deafblind!

Thank you Jonathan. Can you tell me how to switch? When I sat up the
account, it didn't ask for the pop 3 information. I just had to put in my

Hi Connie, Yahoo supports Imap, so if you're currently using pop3, switch to
Imap on all your devices and this will make deletions much easier to handle
across all your devices.

Re: AGoGo Question

2014-06-16 Thread Robert Manson
Hi Guys,
We've just released version AGOGO 1.5 which i pushed out basically just to
adjust some of the feature requests you guys mentioned. Would love to hear
your feedback if you have a chance to check it out!

I've added the following two features:
Support for the Scrub Gesture which allows you to go back.
Now playing now has an adjustable slider to allow you to quickly adjust
the playback position.

Thanks for the help making AGOGO more accessible!

 Thanks everyone for the feedback.

It looks like everyone implements the scrubber more or less the same so I
think that is definitely a good starting point. The way the voice dream
reader allows you to adjust the forward and back interval is super cool!

 Robert

 Hi Robert,

Keith mentioned Voice Dreamreader among a couple of others. I was going to
suggest it as well because I think their implementation is very smart. In
Voice Dreamreader if, for example, I am listening to an audio book, I have
a navigation control and flicking up or down let’s me switch between 15
seconds, 30 seconds and 60 seconds as well as chapter. So I select by what
unit I want to jump forward or back and then I just swipe to the left once
which puts me back on the Play/Pause button and I can now just use the same
swipe up or swipe down gesture to jump forward or back by the interval I
 set.
I guess in the case of AgoGo instead of chapter you could have Episode or
whatever you want to call it and of course some time intervals.

Voice Dreamreader furthermore has a progress indicator which shows the
percentage of where you are currently at. For example, if I have a chapter
of an audio book which is an hour long and I am 20 minutes into the
chapter, the indicator would tell me that I am at 33%. I can flick up or
down and change this by 5% or I can double tap and hold on the progress
indicator and a little numeric pad comes up and I can type in an exact
percentage, say I want to go back to 23% I just type 23 and then tap Done.

Similarly the Play/Pause button in addition to letting me adjust the
playback position by my preset interval allows me to set the sleep timer. I
double tap and hold on it and up comes the sleep timer with some preset
time periods like 15, 30, 45 etc. minutes as well as an edit field where I
could, if I wanted, type in 27 to set it for 27 minutes.

I think the way the Voice Dreamreader developer has done this is
fantastic, very efficient and I have not seen this much functionality
 anywhere else.

 Sieghard

 Hi guys,
 Lead developer of AGOGO here.
I really appreciate you guys using AGOGO and helping me discover issues
 like this!

Play controls are definitely an area where we need to improve. I was
looking at how the voice over play controls work on Apple's Podcasts app
and was planning on using that as a model for future improvements. Is
there another app that you think has a better play controls experience?

 Thanks,

to other shows. But, there is sort of a work around for this. From the
lock screen, double tapping and holding on the previous and next buttons
found there will indeed fast forward and rewind through shows. Same thing

RE: Status Report app for Facebook

2014-06-16 Thread Cristóbal
I used this app a lot back in the day, but noticed that some postings from
friends weren't showing up in the Status Report feed. I stopped using it in
part because of this.
Otherwise, it's quite accessible and the few times I wrote the devs, they
responded promptly and addressed the accessibility questions I had.

RE: Status Report app for Facebook

Cristóbal et al,

Since I never touch Facebook/Twitter, how accessible are they?
What about Braille for DB and those who read Braille heavily?
Just curious.

I used this app a lot back in the day, but noticed that some

postings from
friends weren't showing up in the Status Report feed. I stopped

using it in

part because of this.
Otherwise, it's quite accessible and the few times I wrote the

devs, they
responded promptly and addressed the accessibility questions I

had.

Question: Is there any way to share a facebook post through this

I mean, if you get a post that you want to share with all of

That's why I, when started using my EMail on my IPhone, forgot about
Outlook2007, and changed to Thunderbird, which manages EMail by default
in Imap. Yes I tried configuring/managing EMail with Outlook2007 with
Imap, but had a very frustrating experience! thus why I left it for the
peace, and stayed with Thunderbird here on my PCwith IMap; this way it's
a breeze EMailing! When on my IPhone, I've deleted and read the day's
worth of EMails, no need to have to turn on my Laptop at that moment to
check/delete mail.

delete the same messages from my computer, my iPod, and my iPhone. I
went into settings on my iPhone and found mail. So I clicked on it
but didn't see anything in yahoo mail that would say something like
delete every 15 minutes. Any suggestions will be very much
appreciated. Thank you.

Subject: Exploring a future destination

Hi all,

We are going on vacation next Month to a town that is suppose to be very
walkable. I want to enter the address of the hotel plan some future
walks to shops, restaurants, dog friendly area etc. At this point on my
iPhone, I have no special GPS apps. I have maps, google maps, map
quest, and a handful of public transit apps. It is a small town we are
going to, so public transit won't apply.

:) What do you suggest? I have of course heard of blind square
Ariadne gps, would you recommend one of those? Something else?

I thought I'd look at around me and walk score, but I'm not sure these
apps will do what I want.

I'd love to use the app and pretend I'm on Front street walking in the
town. If you know what I mean.

Thanks,
Traci

We are driving there. I haven't been to Grand Cooley since I was a kid. :)

I use to use around me, but the difference between the 2 apps seems to be, I
can search around an area without actually being there. I don't think around
me does that.

I found it funny and interesting that with places around, I could even search a
town in England.

Bookmarklets?

2014-06-16 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folk,

I'll just introduce this by explaining that I want to work with bookmarklets,
which are little apps that can be used as bookmarks. I'm trying to get a
LastPass bookmarklet to work on my iPod, as I indefinitely have no computer at
the moment. I know different apps have different ways of doing this. LastPass
indicates dragging the link to bookmarks. I don't think that's right, even
without Voiceover. If I double-tap and hold on the link, a dialog opens and
says javascript, but then if I tap open nothing happens.

I want to at least try to get the address so that I can edit it to put
javascript at the beginning instead of the URL prefix. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: Maps question

2014-06-16 Thread Grant Hardy
You are correct in that Apple Maps doesn't prompt you to download any specific
app, but there's definitely a large list of third party apps that it recommends
to you even if they aren't on your phone. When you request transit directions,
you're taken to a screen with two sections: installed apps and from the App
Store. The latter section does indeed allow you to download any of the
recommended apps that you don't currently have on your device.

 Hi.
I know that if I want to use iOS maps to find a route with bus directions, I

 those apps.
 Help appreciated.

What does the emergency services tone for the government alert sound like?

2014-06-16 Thread Jerry Mader
Hello. I have a question. Seeing as we are in tornado season now, what tonedo I
need to be listening for, that will let me know when there is a tornado warning
or when there is a government issued alert. I'm told it sounds a little bit
different and I'm just curious to know what it sounds like? Does anybody know?
Thank you.

Re: What does the emergency services tone for the government alert sound like?

2014-06-16 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

It sounds a lot like the emergency broadcast system tests you hear on the radio
from time to time - very loud and will definitely get your attention.

Best,
Anna

Re: What does the emergency services tone for the government alert sound like?

2014-06-16 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hi,
The phone will also vibrate as well when an emergency alert comes in. So, it
will vibrate as well as play that tone. It is definitely loud for sure and will
definitely get your attention.
Hope this helps,
Jeffrey
