Mini, Multi-tasking gestures?
I've not used the multi-tasking gestures on the Mini before. This is a 1G model running 7.1.2. So, I turned on these gestures so I could do the 4fingers things. The one that works and like is 4finger swipe up for the task switcher, been having trouble sometimes with the Home button double tap. But, although I hear a suitable sound for task-switching, can't find an effect, that is, I don't switch tasks. What am I missing or doing wrong? That's it, thanks. Re: Mini, Multi-tasking gestures?
Hi Rob, I have noticed a similarly inconsistent behaviour with multi-tasking gestures on iPad mini. The four finger swipe up the screen should bring up app switcher but it doesn’t for me. The four finger swipe to right or left should change applications if they are running but it doesn’t. The four finger pinch sometimes works to close an application but other times it doesn’t. I wonder whether others have experienced something like this too. Andrew On 28 Oct 2014, at 09:14, RobH! bobs...@googlemail.com wrote: I've not used the multi-tasking gestures on the Mini before. iPhone 6 Case Recommendations?
Hi All, I'm looking for recommendations on a case for the iPhone 6. The main requirement is that it have a belt clip. I've used Otterbox Defenders in the past and like them a lot. I'm hoping to find an option that's not quite as bulky as the Defender. It's a shame to have such a sleek phone in a case that makes it look like a brick. :) Thanks, todd -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Labeling photos app
Good morning, I am totally blind and was wondering if there's an application out there where I can label my photos. I am getting into these buy sell trade groups on Facebook and need to take several photographs. I sure do miss the old days of iOS, where it photographed had a number such as 001, and the like at least then, I could have my cited assistant tell me that 001 for example was stereo headphones so on and so forth. You can't do that with this new thing they got now. I can't see the photos, so I don't know what I'm posting so if anyone out there knows of an app that could help me label my photos that way I can post my pictures independently. Thanks in advance. Re: entering my e-mail address on a web site
Hi, I haven't seen this on web sites but I have seen it while using braille input in the app store. If I open the search field and type something in there and then click the search button it works fine. the problem occurs when I then go back to the search field and try to type something new. I switch to the braille input keyboard and it seems to be working except that when I check the field VO says what I entered first. I asked my wife to look at it and she says the search field shows my new entry but VO still says my original search entry. I have been trying to figure out more details so I could report this to Apple Accessibility. If anyone else can figure it out I'd sure appreciate it. When I go to enter my e-mail address on some web sites, if I am using a blue tooth keyboard, I can't type. I just hear the knocking noise. Then if I try to use the braille input, same thing. Hello list, I think I have asked before about all this, but some of my e-mails have been lost, so I'll try again. I have iphone and Ipad and I am looking for RSS reader with the following Functions: 1. The function to delete read or seen feeds. I mean I want to be able to delete my feeds after reading them so it won't fill up my phone. The ideal situation would be not to have RSS feeds stored on my devices, but in case it is not possible, the deleting function would be fantastic. 2. The function to kind of synchronize my either read ur unread RSS feeds. To explain it better, Let's say, for example, I will have the same RSS app installed on the Iphone and on the Ipad. When I open RSS app and read an article on the Iphone and delete it, then I open RSS app on the Ipad all the same article I have read on the phone would be deleted and won't appear as a new feed. Something very similar as ifyou're using e-mails and imap on a few devices and when you delete an e-mail on one device, it would synchronize on every single device. 3. And the last function is to be notified of new feeds. I am not sure if something like that is possible on I-devices. But wen I was using RSS reader or better to say RSS plugin with Miranda software for computer, I was notified of new RSS feed. I have Lire and Newsify installed. Does either of these have the functions mentioned above? If so, could anyone, please, give me step-by-step instructions how to set it up? Thank you for your help in advance. Re: Labeling photos app
Hi, Other people may have a better solution, but I tend to connect the phone to a computer after each photo, copy said photo onto the computer rename it based on its contents. Alternatively you could make a note of when each photo was taken what it was of, then when transferring them you could inspect the date time that they were created, matching up each photo to your notes. Re: entering my e-mail address on a web site
Suggestion: with search fields, crank the rotor round to Edit, flick up.down to Select all, ditto cut; now start typing again, sorry, crank the rotor back to braille input and it should be a clear field to work in. I know I've done this, just did it out of frustration at keep seeing my previous in there. Yes - they're ordered by date time taken so it's not really a huge issue if it's just one or two photos. I do quite a bit of eBay selling so I have to put them onto a computer anyway; I tend to do them one at a time though so I can be absolutely certain that I'm putting a MacBook on one of my listings not a glass of homebrew. Re: confused on how to put documents into an app using a pc running iTunes 12
Thanks for this, I’ll be saving it for future reference. From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Monday, October 27, 2014 10:50 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: confused on how to put documents into an app using a pc running iTunes 12 Hi Michael, OK, hopefully I can explain this well. The way this works in iTunes 12 is that by default you have Music, Movies and More on your main screen. I might be missing something here, but I already customized this so I can’t remember if there was anything else. Anyhow, tab to More and press enter, then arrow down and you’ll find other things in a list view such as Audio Books, Books, Apps, Podcasts etc. When you get to Apps you could just press enter and then tab and you’ll find your app updates and so on. If you want Apps to be a radio button like Music and so on on the main screen, go to the very end of that list view where you find “Edit”. Now tab until you find a button also called “Edit” and activate it. Next tab and you’ll first go across a bunch of read only fields, then you will hear checkboxes which are either checked or unchecked and after each checkbox you hear the corresponding item, e.g. music, movies, TV shows, apps etc. Just remember that you need to check the checkbox before the item, so if you want Apps to be on your main screen, tab until you hear Apps, then Back tab once and check that checkbox. When you have checked or unchecked all you want, tab until you find the “Done” button and activate it. I find it easiest to always start at the same point of reference and a very convenient place for that is the search box in iTunes which you can always go to by pressing Control+F. From the search box 2 tabs will put you on the Music radio button and any other items you checked will appear after that. Also keep in mind that the shortcut keys for going directly to your various libraries in iTunes 12 work even better than in iTunes 11. The shortcuts are Control+Number keys in the number row from 1 to 0, they are as follows: Control+1: Music Control+2: Movies Control+3: TV Shows Control+4: Podcasts Control+5: iTunes U Control+6: Books Control+7: Apps Control+8: Tones Control+9: Internet Radio, maybe this is iTunes Radio in countries where it’s available, can’t say because it’s not available in Canada Control+0: iTunes Store As far as transferring books to Voice Dream, once you are in apps it should be the same as before, tab to the file sharing area, select Voice Dream from the list of available apps and go from there. Good luck, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Michael Malver Sent: Monday, October 27, 2014 9:28 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com; viphone@googlegroups.com; viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: confused on how to put documents into an app using a pc running iTunes 12 Hi, I can bring up my iPhone in iTunes 12, but the “apps” radio button doesn’t show up. Has anyone created an audio tutorial on how to do this with iTunes 12 and a pc? If not, are there written instructions anywhere? Re: SETTING SLEEP TIMER FOR BARD
There is no sleep timer in the BARD app. But, you can use the clock timer instead of having a sound when the timer ends, if you go to the end of the options you will find, stop playing. Double tap on that, then I think there is a set button then the start button and after whatever time you set, anything playing should stop. HTH, Richard The only limits are those of vision. Re: Labeling photos app
Hi Tap Tap See may be able to do what you need. I haven't figured out a way to label the pictures using the app. The app does have access to your camera roll and can describe what the picture is. For example if you take a picture of a pair of headphones Tap Tap See would return a description of headphones or if the brand can be seen the description may say Sony headphones. Within the app you have the option of posting the photo to facebook, sending the photo by text message or email and copying the photo Camfind can also identify photos in your camera roll, but I haven't figured out a way to label the photos and there isn't an option to share the photos. RE: Labeling photos app
Hi Donna, I think it would be good if a lot of people would write to Apple either using www.apple.com/feedback or the accessibil...@apple.com email address to request that Apple would implement photo labelling either as a feature for all users or an accessibility feature. Not being able to effectively label photos in iOS is definitely a big deal for blind users, but you even find threads where sighted users ask for this. I wonder how difficult it would be for Apple to add a feature where you could maybe double tap on a photo and a menu would pop up with options like Delete, Move and Label or something like that. If it was an accessibility feature it would maybe be done via the rotor, e.g. swipe down or up to get to options like Label, Delete, Move etc. Then if you double tap on label a simple text box would come up similar to the custom label feature which would allow you to add a text label but without changing the actual file name of the picture and it's order. There are a bunch of apps in the app store which allow you to add labels to pictures, but I think most are meant for sighted people who want to add artistic tapes, stamps and widges to photos which may or may not contain a text label. A Google search for Labelling photos in iOS 8 gives you a number of results and it seems that an app called labelbox is well regarded and has already been updated to take advantage of iOS 8 extensions. It's a large app, over 100 Mb, and it's free with in-app purchases. I did download it, but so far have not been able to get anywhere with it. I guess apps like this which are heavily focused on visual effects might be more difficult to make accessible and of course many developers may not even think about that. I wrote to the developer of Labelbox and mentioned the potential usefulness of his app for blind iOS users and if I receive a reply I'll post it here. The main problem with I think all of these apps is that you have to open the photo in order to see the description and I think what a blind user really would appreciate is a label which would be read along with the date the picture was taken when you go through your listing of pictures. Another app which comes to mind is Photovoice. This has been discussed before and I believe there might even be something about it on Applevis. This app allows you to record a voice label in your own voice, but once again you do have to open the photo in order to play this label. It basically converts your picture to a small video file in order to allow for the voice label. Here is the app store link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photovoice/id492150568?mt=8 Another app which does basically the same thing is called SpokenPhoto, but I can't say anything regarding whether it is accessible or not. It is, however, a free app whereas Photovoice is 99 Cents. Photovoice also has not been updated since January 2013 which is almost 2 years. SpokenPhoto was updated in April 2014 which is a lot more recent. Here is the link for SpokenPhoto: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spokenphoto-give-your-photos/id491723663?mt=8 Good luck, Sieghard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Donna Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2014 7:52 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Labeling photos app Hi Tap Tap See may be able to do what you need. RE: Stuck in an Edit Screen for Text Messages
Hi Sherry, That is normal behavior. You double tap on a person/conversation and a window opens with your message history and at the bottom is a text box. Double tap on the text box and it goes into edit mode and the keyboard comes up so you can send another message in that conversation. I don’t generally keep conversations which go back over weeks or months, but I believe old messages may be hidden after they reach a certain age. If you have upgraded to iOS 8, you might also want to go to Settings and Messages and check how long your text messages are kept before they are automatically deleted. This is a new feature and you can set this to 30 days, 1 year or Forever. Re: some rather big Focus 14 blue issues with iOS 8.1
Hi, I haven't seen the focus issues, but I can help with typing the commands in bARD Mobile. The problem is that Quick Nav is turned on when you install iOS 8 or 8.1. There is a braille display command that is supposed to toggle Quick Nav - Space with Q. Unfortunately, it currently doesn't work. If you have access to a Bluetooth keyboard, connect it, and press the left and right arrow keys together to turn Quick Nav off. Then the BARD Mobile commands will work normally. Has anyone else had these issues, and if so, is there a workaround for them? if not though, what do I do to remedy this? it’s making my use of the focus 14 a right chore, more trouble than it’s worth, and all the other cliches. thanks for any help! -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. I'm sure I got frustrated with this once, but having fiddled on 2 different 4S's running 7.1.2 and 8.1; and can't reproduce the problem. Whichever way I go back up to the thread or sender list, going back into any has closed the edit field until I double tap it again with a view to replying. Ok, this is precisely it. A safeguard in case you really need to write that person and got half a message you don't want to lose. So, I did as said before - Get VO on to the text field, crank rotor round to Edit, flick up/down to select all and double tap, flick up/down some more to cut and double tap; then back out of that sender's thread and the text field will close and stay closed until you double tap it to edit in it again. Re: Labeling photos app
I have not been following this thread, but I have had no trouble labeling photos or videos since iOS 7.1.2 In iOS 8.1, my previous labels are there and creating new ones works just like before. I use the standard gesture of a two finger double-tap and hold and enter text in the field and or delete what is there and enter something new and then double tapping on the done button in the lower right corner. It basically converts your picture to a small video file in order to allow for the voice label.. cases for the 6+
hi, When I got my 6+ on the 26th of this month, The verizon store said otter box had not created a case for the 6+ yet. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of it because if for no other reason it helped from getting stuff in the phone ports. Pluss the protection is good for when I want to trade it in. If anyone knows of an otterbox like case for the 6+ I'd appreciate it. currently my phone just has a sheet of tempered glass over the touch screen. I'm not sure if it was sticky on the back or how it was applied. I'm sure i'll have to remove it to put it in a more protective case. Wowed by WhisperSync in Kindle App
Hi, guys, I'm floored by this feature that many of you might have used, but some might not. Nonetheless, I have to relate my experience with it. So here I was, reading a book in the Kindle app with my Braille disply. I use the Kindle Unlimited servie, which lets you rent books for a monthly fee. If a book has an audio version, you can also download it for no extra charge. For individual books, I think the charge for the audio is a few dollars more. I decided to take a bath but still wanted to continue reading the book. On a lark, I downloaded the auio to play through my small portable speakers. I was a little grumbly about having to find my place, but something in the back of my mind told me I wouldn't have to. Well, the audio resumed where I'd left off in Braille. I was truly amazed. Then when I was ready to switch back to text, there it was. I hope more books are availble with this option as time goes on. I love it. I mostly read in Braille, but I like to read with audio occasionally when I'm puttering around the house. Re: Wowed by WhisperSync in Kindle App
Yes, I like this also and I think I posted once about it but in a different vein. You can also use your braille display and audio both together. Even when pages didn't turn automatically in braille, it still wasn't bad. I haven't tried it since the upgrade to iOS8 but it should work even better now. I don't often need both braille and audio together but sometimes it's fun. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! And now, every day: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Re: iPhone 6 Case Recommendations?
This is correct. I have an iPhone 6 in an Otterbox Defender case, without the belt clip, and though the case is big the phone is also a little bigger than the 5. I don't think it is overly bulky. The case on the 6 is not as thick as it was on the 5. You can always get one, try it out, and return it if it doesn't work. Or, see if you can look at one at the store to get an idea of how it would work. Re: iPhone 6 Case Recommendations?
I have a Defender case too. It certainly looks different than before! A lot thinner! Sharonda On 10/28/14, Wayne Merritt wcmerr...@gmail.com wrote: This is correct. Re: Downcast question
If you go to the More tab, then settings, you can set the default (global) behavior for all podcasts, under the new episodes action heading to either stream or download. If you're listening to a specific podcast you can make settings to that one podcast. I have done this for specific podcasts that I want to be able to hear anytime, but most of my podcasts are set to stream. Also, if you find a single episode of a podcast, you can do the double tap and hold gesture and bring up a short menu of choices, including to download or stream that episode. The wording may be convert to, I'm not exactly sure. Hth, Wayne On 10/28/14, Pinky pink...@abe.midco.net wrote: Is there a way on Downcast to not have it automatically download the podcast? Re: Stuck in an Edit Screen for Text Messages
In addition to what was said below, even when the virtual keyboard is up, I can still go back and review my previous exchange of text messages. If I start from a recent message displayed on the screen, I can swipe left and go back through the list of previous messages in reverse chronological order. Note that using the various page advancing gestures didn't have any effect and just exploring the screen or swiping right from the top only got me to a few messages that were actually displayed on the screen. Like I said, I had to swipe left from a message on the screen to scroll back through previous messages. On 10/28/2014 12:36 PM, RobH. wrote: Ok, this is precisely it. Re: I need advice about RSS reader, please help.
I'm not sure I follow the attached message. There's a free version and a paid version of Feeddler. InoReader is free as far as I know. I think the Old Reader is also free, but the number of feeds you can follow may be limited until you pay a small fee. Back in the day, when Google Reader was till around, you could subscribe to whole groups of RSS feeds at once, such as news, sports, life hacking, Linux/Ubuntu and so on. I got started with RSS feeds by subscribing to a handful of these collections. Over the years, I've dropped feeds I wasn't interested in and rearranged the feeds I still follow. I'm not sure if any of the other RSS feed services do anything similar or not. RE: cases for the 6+
Before you guys get real excited about the Otterbox Defender for the iPhone 6, please read some of the reviews at Amazon. A lot of opinions are not so complimentary. Among some of the criticisms is that the volume control is difficult to use, and the gap between the iPhone 6 and the built in screen is such that activating apps is quite awkward. RE: I need advice about RSS reader, please help.
The old reader charges $2.00 a month or $20.00 a year for more than 100 feeds. It's free for less than 100 feeds. Unless they made some changes since last I tried it, I didn't find Ino Reader to be all that accessible on my PC (JFW). This is why I'm partial to The Old Reader. The site is completely Jaws accessible. It also syncs quite well with Feeddler Pro. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2014 4:59 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: I need advice about RSS reader, please help. Re: cases for the 6+
I will say that the volume controls buttons on the iPhone 6 Otterbox Defender case have taken a bit of getting used to, more than the iPhone 5. In my humble opinion, the 5 Otterbox case was easier to use for the volume and for plugging in the phone to charge. Things have gradually gotten easier for me over the month I've had my phone and case, and they will hopefully continue to get better. However, getting a good firm and hard press on the volume buttons or on the power/wake button does take more doing with the iPhone 6 case, and it sounds like perhaps for the 6 Plus case too. iOS 8.1 and iTunes 11.x, Anyone?
Hello, Has anyone attempted to attach/sync an iOS 8.1 device to a computer running iTunes 11, successfully? Until I purchase an iPhone 6 Plus, I have decided to keep my 5 S at 7.12. Because of this, I see no reason to update my primary Windows 7 computer, to which I sync my 5 S, to iTunes 12. However, on my newer Windows computer, along with my MacBook Pro, I have updated to iTunes 12, and must say that I am getting used to it, slowly. Hi Mark, Shouldn't be a problem. I have been running iOS 8 since June and throughout the Beta cycle as well as until the release of iTunes 12 I synced and backed up to iTunes 11. I am 99% certain I synced and backed up after I upgraded to iOS 8.1 and before I upgraded to iTunes 12 which I only did 2 or 3 days ago. I also ran iOS 8.1 Beta since early October so I definitely would have synced and done encrypted backups since I never do a major update without first syncing and backing up. RE: can I use braille typing on my iPhone 5 or not
No, this is an iOS 8 feature. All you have to do is go to Settings, General, Accessibility and Voiceover. Double tap on the Rotor settings, locate the braille option and double tap on it to select it. Now when you are in an edit field you can turn the rotor to braille and it should work. Hi, Sadly I can confirm that which you've reported. My defender for the 6 plus was received today and will begin its return trip tomorrow. the screen protector has a springy feel to it I.E. it is not flush with the front face of the phone thus making interacting with the phone quite a chore. While I have seen this on occasion before with these built in screen protectors and have sometimes been able to fix it with some maneuvering or worst case scenario a swap out of the case for an exchanged one in this instance due to such limited availability and vast reporting of this issue by users from all across the board I think at least for the 6 Plus era of phone use Otterbox and I will sadly be parting ways. This leads me to another case related question. For those who have chosen through the years to use open face cases have you used an adhesive type screen protector which affixes to the phone's screen? RE: cases for the 6+
Hi Robin, I can see how many people like to put a substantial case around their phones, but as long as there is good protection around the sides and the case has a pronounced lip which stick up above the glass of the screen I really think having a integrated, relatively thick screen protector is not necessary unless you work in construction or another job where your phone really might be exposed to serious abuse. The Gorilla glass Apple uses really is quite tough and doesn't scratch that easily. Just my opinion, of course. Re: can I use braille typing on my iPhone 5 or not
Just to add to this, the braille input option is nearly always one rotor turn to the right. That is, it doesn't stay in one place, like characters or headings. Instead, it keeps moving, so that at almost any time it is available, one clockwise turn of the rotor will activate it. No need to move it around in your rotor settings, or hunt for it by turning the rotor left. On Oct 28, 2014, at 9:37 PM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: No, this is an iOS 8 feature.
