Re: A Wonderful 3D Bowling Game for the Low Vision, It Is Not VoiceOver Accessible

Hi Mark, thank you for recommending this 3-D bowling game. I downloaded it and
I absolutely love it. If you come up with any more games could you please
recommend them? Thanks so much. Christine

 Hello Everyone,

After 5 years of downloading various games for iOS, I finally came across
one that I actually find addictive (smile).

As the subject states, it's a 3d bowling game with amazingly realistic
 visuals and sound effects.

Please note that this game is not VoiceOver accessible. However, especially
on a 6 or a 6 Plus, a low vision person may be able to enjoy it.

 The price is 1.99 USD.

When the game launches, you will be prompted to create a Game Center login,
 which I dismiss.

Also, the first time you launch the game, both sound effects and music are
enabled. The first thing I did was to turn off the music while leaving the
sound effects on. You only have to do this once as the settings are saved.

After getting the settings adjusted, at subsequent launches, assuming you
cannot actually read the 3 options presented, you, like me, may be able to
distinguish the three lines, each offering a different mode of play.
Selecting the first option will take you into single-user mode.

Here is a description of the game:

 Game Info
Play the ultimate sport game in amazing realistic 3D graphics.

 3 Game Modes:
 Single Player
 Pass n Play
 VS. CPU

 Features:
 8 unique custom bowling balls.
 3 Game Modes.
 Realistic Physics.
 Stunning 3D graphics.
 GameCenter Support.
 Full Retina Display Support.

I hope some of you, like me, will find this games fast, refreshing, and
 above all else, fun.

To download/purchase the game from the App Store, simply click the following
 link.

 Enjoy,

A few weeks prior, there had been several messages on this list

could someone give me a capsule synopsis of the game's accessibility and

Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm using jaws and iTunes 12 and I was wondering how I can tell which
apps are checked and will be synced to my phone? When I access my
music library I can hear which songs are checked, but in the apps list
all I hear is the name of the app.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi all,

I was wondering. What is the best color identifier app to use on iOS for the

Re: Color identifiers

2015-01-08 Thread Andy Baracco
We just discussed this, and I think that the consensus was that there are no
really good ones. Some have said that the apps Camfind and Taptapsee even
though not color identification apps, have worked well for them. Personally,
I think that if you really need to know the color of something, like
matching an outfit to wear to work, etc. if you do not have a sighted person
around, would be to invest in one of the dedicated color ID devices.

Problem with official YouTube app

2015-01-08 Thread Lynn Schneider
I know it has been claimed on this list by others that the accessibility of the
official YouTube app has improved over time, but I seem to have a vexing
problem I'm hoping you can help me with. When I first open the YouTube app and
try to swipe right through my list of new videos, I eventually encounter a More
button whereupon VO suddenly loses focus and I have to do a 3-finger swipe to
scroll the screen. It seems like focus is lost as soon as I encounter the More
button. I find this really frustrating, as I do not like the way my list of
suggested videos is laid out now on the screen. I am using an iPhone 5S with
the latest IOS. Any assistance with this problem would be most sincerely
appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

RE: bluetooth hand set

2015-01-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tracy,

Why not get some sort of case you put your iPhone in which is larger? I even
heard about cases which are sort of like an old style handset on the outside
and you iPhone is inside.
Using Bluetooth is always a compromise, usually a fairly large compromise if
you are talking about inexpensive bluetooth devices and while I understand some
list members feel their earpiece or handset is perfect and introduces 0 delay,
I have yet to find one. Sure, the delay may not be as noticeable for a call or
a few swipes or taps, but if you type and are practiced enough to have
reasonable speed it's a big pain in the neck.

Re: Updating credit card info

2015-01-08 Thread Lori Dent
Hi Joseph,

Okay, I have another question related to my credit card information I want to
update. I have my new credit card information stored in my iPassword app.
Like the expiration date and the three number code on the back of the credit
card.

Well I haven't had to go into i password for a while and when I open i
password, there's a keyboard with just numbers to enter my password and I
have a four number passcode I enter to unlock the app so I can get to the
information I want.

It also says please enter your password At the top of the screen on the left
side it says hint and then on the right side of the screen at the top it has
three dots. If I double tap on the first dot the number pad goes away and you
now have nine round circles that look like they repersent numbers from 1 to
9. .

I'm confused here and don't know how I can enter my four didgit code to
ounlock the app so I access the information I want to retrieve.

I had no problems before using this app can you help and give me some
suggestions on what to do to get this working for me again. Have you ever used
i password.?

There are two apps that I know of that have a Farkle game. One is called Dice

very accessible. With Dice World you can play online. iFarkle you play against
the computer or another person that is with you. Meaning you share your iPhone.

RE: Sounds when taking picture with an iPhone 5C

Sounds like you flipped the Mute switch which will mute the camera click as
well as many other system sounds.
This is the switch on the top right side of your phone just above the volume
buttons. Make sure it is pulled forward towards the touch screen. If you unlock
your phone first or even wake it up so it's at the lock screen and do this
Voiceover should say Unmuted.

Re: Farkle

2015-01-08 Thread Alex Hall
The ap you want is Dice World. It includes Farkle, among five other dice games,
and is not only accessible but includes features specifically for VoiceOver
users. It's still a fully sighted game, though.

Farkle is pretty easy, once you play it some and get the rules down pat. Here
they are:

* you have six dice to roll the first time. You may roll again as many times as
you like, so long as at least one die is worth points.
* Before rolling again, you must set aside at least one die.
* Three or more of any single number is worth points (three ones, four fives,
that kind of thing). Twos, threes, fours, fives, and sixes are worth 100 times
the value,, doubled for as many dice as you have showing that value, after
three dice. So, three dice showing 2 is worth 2*100=200, but five twos are
worth 2*100=200, doubled for the fourth die is 400, doubled for the fifth die
is worth 800.
* A similar system is used for ones, but they are worth more. Three ones yields
a score of 1000, which doubles for every 1 after those first three. Four ones
is worth 2000, for instance.
* For the above two rules to apply, the dice must be rolled at once. You can't
hold back two ones, roll a third one your next roll, and call it a thousand
points.
* You can stop rolling anytime you like, after your first roll. If you roll the
dice and get no points, you have a Farkle and all points you've gained during
your turn are lost. Deciding not to roll again or getting a Farkle are the only
two ways to end your turn.
* The game is over when one player's score hits ten thousand.

RE: How to tell which apps I have checked in iTunes 12

Which Apps list are you in? You have to connect your phone, go to your Device

unchecked. I suspect you may be in your App Library (Control+7 shortcut) in the

Sounds like that button with the 3 dots toggles between the regular keyboard

It also says please enter your password At the top of the screen on the left
side it says hint and then on the right side of the screen at the top it has
three dots. If I double tap on the first dot the number pad goes away and you
now have nine round circles that look like they repersent numbers from 1 to
9. .

I'm confused here and don't know how I can enter my four didgit code to
ounlock the app so I access the information I want to retrieve.

I had no problems before using this app can you help and give me some
suggestions on what to do to get this working for me again. Have you ever used
i password.?

A Wonderful 3D Bowling Game for the Low Vision, It Is Not VoiceOver Accessible

2015-01-08 Thread M. Taylor

To download/purchase the game from the App Store, simply click the following
link.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bowling-game-3d/id447101835?mt=8

Enjoy,

Mark

Color identifiers

2015-01-08 Thread Portia Scott
Hi all,

I was wondering. What is the best color identifier app to use on iOS for the
blind? A friend and I have been trying to find one, but everything is so old.
From 2012. If anyone could help us locate one and let us know what the best one
is, we would dearly appreciate it. Some are even from 2010 and older. So thank
you in advance.

Portia.

Personally, I would save it onto a computer instead of on the iPhone.
Listen to a bit of the tutorial, pause it, work on what you've heard until
you get the idea, then repeat the process.

RE: transferring music from ipod touch

2015-01-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

No, you can’t transfer directly. You would have to use a program like Copy
Trans which is not free and has accessibility challenges as well. It would be
easiest if somebody could give you the music that is on the iPod on a USB stick
since it’s probably on somebody’s computer and was transferred to the iPod
using iTunes. You could then add the music to your own iTunes library and sync
it to your phone.

Sieghard

I was hoping that it could be done without using I Tunes on the computer. The

to use my computer to make the changes.

Would it be possile tto make the transfer using WIFI?

Family sharing

2015-01-08 Thread Dave Sheridan

Hi List

I have a couple of questions about family sharing which hopefully someone can
answer. Do those grouped together for family sharing have to live in the same
household and secondly, as the organiser's card details are kept within this
grouping does this mean the organiser is responsible in the first instance to
pay for any app purchased from the moment this group is setup?

RE: Family sharing

2015-01-08 Thread Deidre Muccio
Dave
Since no one has responded to your post yet, here is what I know. Family
sharing can include any family member no matter one lives on thewest
coast and the other on the east. The person who is organizer can allow what
they have purchased to be shared by any other identified member. In settings
a family members Id and password are entered by the organizer and then you
will show in the organizer's list and they in yours. After that, I believe
that if I (not the organizer) purchase something, then others can share it
as well. I also believe there are features of family sharing that you don't
have to allow.

Re: Can I use my old phone as a music player?

2015-01-08 Thread Alan J Paganelli
It's an iPod Touch then. That's how I use my iPhone 4, 32 GB. It also
makes a great book player for listening to NLS Talking Books. One big
advanatge is you can use a Bluetooth ear peace or wireless or wired head
phones. I like the bluetooth ear peace method. My Plantronics Voyager
Legend sounds pretty good and the start stop button will pause or play so if
you get an incoming call, the talking book gets put on pause. and, your
hands are still free.

I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but I don't.

I'm getting a new iPhone today but will probably go for something with
less storage than what I currently have. I use my phone for listening
to music quite a lot and I was wondering, once the new phone has been
activated, can I use the old phone as a music player? Is there any
reason I couldn't do this? Or is there anything special I need to do
to be able to do it?

Thanks,

Re: Shake to undo dictation

2015-01-08 Thread Christina C.
Rose, Sometimes, it sort of works. It’s hit and miss but I never hear undo
dictation, I hear undo typing and then after I click OK, than the text or only
some of the text is highlighted. I can then click the delete button. It’s too
inconsistant to use and is buggy on my iPhone 5S. I wonder who I would contact
at apple about this. Maybe they can tell me that they removed this option or
it’s a bug they are working on. This is not a deal breaker or anything for me
but I used this feature a lot and miss it. :)

A Question About Moving Photos from the Camera Roll to Any Other Album on the same Device Without Using A Computer

2015-01-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

As the subject line indicates, I would like to know if there is a way to
actually move, not merely tag, a photo from the iOS's device Camera Roll to
an album on that same device without having to use either a computer, the
cloud, email, or any other external resource.

I conducted several tests and conducted many Google searches but cannot find
an answer to this question.

The best that I have been able to accomplish, so far anyway, is to merely
tag a message so it appears in a different album. The problem, as you may
expect, is that when I delete the photo from the Camera Roll, it also gets
deleted from any albums.

There must be a way to accomplish this as I have no doubt that there must be
thousands of people who use iOS devices without benefit of an external
resource, as it were.

In fact, this problem was first posed to me by an acquaintance who only has
an iPhone 6 Plus.

Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Re: Weather Notification Temperature Inconsistencies

You can get notification of the temperature from more than one source. That's
why there may be different results. If you have more than one weather app,
check to see which ones are sending notifications to the notification area.

I could be wrong here so try at your own risk but a easier way to do this is to
press command a to select all and then press command c to copy it.
then switch to the text field that you are going to paste the text in to and

2015-01-08 Thread Isaac Hebert
If you want to highlight a message and copy it to the clipboard you can press
command a to select the whole message.
Then switch the rotor to edit with the up and left or right arrow keys but
first before you can do that you have to turn quick nav on by pressing the left
and right arrows together.
Then you can find the copy option by pressing the down arrow to find the copy
option and then pressing the up and down arrow keys to select it.
Next switch to the app that contains the text field that you want to paste the
message in to and then press command v to paste the message.

RE: Family sharing

2015-01-08 Thread Richard Turner
If you set up a family member as a child and create an Apple ID for them, they
can be restricted in purchasing apps.
But, if you add a family member who already has an Apple ID, I could not find a
way to set them up as a child who couldn't purchase without permission.
So, if they are not setup as a child, any purchases they make will go on the
organizer's credit card.
So, only set folks up in family sharing you trust.

Hi List

I have a couple of questions about family sharing which hopefully someone
can answer. Do those grouped together for family sharing have to live in the
same household and secondly, as the organiser's card details are kept within
this grouping does this mean the organiser is responsible in the first
instance to pay for any app purchased from the moment this group is setup?

Re: Family sharing

2015-01-08 Thread Dave Sheridan
Thanks very much Deidre and Richard for yor answers to my questions. The first
is clear, you can be part of a family group but live some distance apart from
members within the group. The second I'm not so sure about although having just
the credit card info for the organiser of the group does make one think
payments would be deducted from that card. If that is the case then your point
Richard about trusting members of the group is most important.

RE: Family sharing

2015-01-08 Thread Laury-Johnson, Shawnese (LARA)
Hello Dave the payment method that is entered by the organizer is shared by all
members in family sharing. I am the organizer for my family and when my husband
purchases anything it is billed to the card that I have on file. After he makes
a purchase I get an email letting me know that he purchased it because his
email address is there and I get detailed info as to the name of the app or
song as well as the amount. Because my daughter is a minor I have it set up
that she is not allowed to download anything unless I give her permission. If
she tries to make a purchase I immediately receive an alert letting me know
that she wants to download or purchase something. It tells me if it is free or
if there is a cost. I then have to select yes or no. If I say yes to allow
permission it will automatically begin to download to her iPod in my case. If I
say no she would get a message letting her know that it was denied. HTH

Mark,
I also recently bought the KNFB Reader and have been amazed as well.
During the holidays I went out to Denny's and out of curiosity, I
scanned the Denny's menu from front to back. The Reader did extremely
well, even when there were pictures on the pages. Some text was
distorted or not recognized correctly, but for the most part
everything came out well. I saved the file to refer back to later on

 Subject: Mark on the K N F B Reader

 Hello Everyone,

During the recent K N F B Reader sale, I purchased a copy from the App
 Store.

For years, I heard about how well the reader worked on the Symbian
 platform.
Of course, as fate would have it, I was a Windows Mobile user. By the time
I considered exploring Symbian, the iPhone 3GS hit the market and into the
 Apple orchard, went I.

I just wanted to say how pleased I am with the ease-of-use of the reader
 and
how versatile it appears to be.

The accuracy is stunning, to say the least. I am running the app on an
 iPhone 5 S with iOS 7.12.

When I purchased the app, I took it for a test drive, so to speak, and it
read several documents I received in the mail, including insurance
statements, bank notices, etc very well.

On Friday, I was sitting in an office waiting room. On the table in front
of me were several magazines. On a whim, I snapped a shot of a cover of
 one
of the magazines and, despite the image on the cover, it was read almost
perfectly. So, I decided to browse the magazine with the reader. As I had
my headset attached to the phone, I disturbed no one and was able to, on
 the
 fly, access printed material. Marvelous.

Now keep in mind that I do have some usable residual vision such that I do
not need to first place the phone in the center of the page and then raise
it up in order to get a good shot of the document. Nevertheless, not until
now have I ever been able to enjoy reading printed material, on the fly,
without magnification, in such a relaxed manner.

What a wonderful piece of technology and how fortunate we are to live at a
time when such things are possible.

 Mark

RE: Family sharing, and unlock vs carrier phones

2015-01-08 Thread Deidre Muccio
Richard
This is funny. I noticed that too. The explanation on the phone itself is
unclear about the child thing. It leads you to believe you can designate
anyone as a child but you've tested it and you say that is indeed not
true.
I just called my local Apple store. An unlocked iPhone 6 64 runs
around 749 plus tax. Verizon might sell me a package for $50 a month and a
phone for $199. Doing the calculations of the cost of an unlocked phone plus
the cheapest of non contract minutes I could buy verses say $800 for a year
of Verizon services plus the second year well, it's gotten to be a
slightly harder decision. Oh, then I can recycle through Apple the old 4S
if I want but I don't know how much I'd get for it. So, I don't really plan
to be traveling overseas, but who knows. And I don't plan to sell the phone
either, so unlocked might not be such an issue other than not wanting to get
locked into contract. My remaining question is if anyone who has a phone
they got from Verizon noticing any drawbacks to the phone or their overall
package? As Mark wrote, the T Mobile phone had more options but I don't know
how that would influence me in my rather limited use as opposed to things
Mark would be doing with his phone.
Lastly, I called Bes Buy and could not get through. I know that they
are a designated Apple ... but do they sell the phones for any cheaper than
the Apple stores, or are the prices across the board the same? My fingers
are tingling, I'm not ready to go to their sites and check! Any pointers
would be helpful. Deidre

 Thanks,
 Kimber

Hello Dave the payment method that is entered by the organizer is shared by
all members in family sharing. I am the organizer for my family and when my
husband purchases anything it is billed to the card that I have on file.
After he makes a purchase I get an email letting me know that he purchased
it because his email address is there and I get detailed info as to the name
of the app or song as well as the amount. Because my daughter is a minor I
have it set up that she is not allowed to download anything unless I give
her permission. If she tries to make a purchase I immediately receive an
alert letting me know that she wants to download or purchase something. It
tells me if it is free or if there is a cost. I then have to select yes or
no. If I say yes to allow permission it will automatically begin to download
to her iPod in my case. If I say no she would get a message letting her know
that it was denied. HTH

Thanks very much Deidre and Richard for yor answers to my questions. The
first is clear, you can be part of a family group but live some distance
apart from members within the group. The second I'm not so sure about
although having just the credit card info for the organiser of the group
does make one think payments would be deducted from that card. If that is
the case then your point Richard about trusting members of the group is most
important.

permission.
So, if they are not setup as a child, any purchases they make will go on
the organizer's credit card.
So, only set folks up in family sharing you trust.

Since no one has responded to your post yet, here is what I know. Family
sharing can include any family member no matter one lives on thewest
coast and the other on the east. The person who is organizer can allow
what they have purchased to be shared by any other identified member.
In settings a family members Id and password are entered by the
organizer and then you will show in the organizer's list and they in
yours. After that, I believe that if I (not the organizer) purchase
something, then others can share it as well. I also believe there are
features of family sharing that you don't have to allow.

 Hi List

I have a couple of questions about family sharing which hopefully
someone can answer. Do those grouped together for family sharing have
to live in the same household and secondly, as the organiser's card
details are kept within this grouping does this mean the organiser is
responsible in the first instance to pay for any app purchased from the
moment this group is setup?

 Mark

Yes the only thing is you will have to connect to a wifi network to use the
wireless features.

Subject: Can I use my old phone as a music player?

I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but I don't.

I'm getting a new iPhone today but will probably go for something with
less storage than what I currently have. I use my phone for listening
to music quite a lot and I was wondering, once the new phone has been
activated, can I use the old phone as a music player? Is there any
reason I couldn't do this? Or is there anything special I need to do
to be able to do it?

 Thanks,
 Kimber

How to tell which apps I have checked in iTunes 12

2015-01-08 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi all,

I'm using jaws and iTunes 12 and I was wondering how I can tell which
apps are checked and will be synced to my phone? When I access my
music library I can hear which songs are checked, but in the apps list
all I hear is the name of the app.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: hilighting and selecting and copying a text with the Apple keyboard.

2015-01-08 Thread Isaac Hebert
First I would let voiceover read the message.
Next press shift vo c to copy the text of that message.
Next go in to a text field for a example choose reply and reply again to get
in to the text field where you reply to a message. then switch the rotor to
edit and then press the down arrow to get to the paste option and then select
with the up and down arrow keys together.
You can also paste with command v.
