RE: Amedia Live Reader app

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Grant,

This sounds interesting if it works well, but I am also not quite prepared to
shell out $40 Canadian (I assume it's $29.99 in the US) for a new app which
nobody seems to have ever heard about. I also wonder about the following item
in the feature explanation:

Hold the device flat (with the camera facing down) to take a still picture.
This is useful when you're reading paper sheets on a desk.

I wonder if this means that one has no control whether you want to hear live
scan results when holding the device flat because if so then I think this
should be changed to give the user control over whether to take a still picture
or to use video. I may have a bunch of mail I might not necessarily want to
scan accurately but I might want to just go through it and identify what' s
what. In that case I would want to sit at my table or desk and hold the phone
above the mail to hear what it reads to me in live video mode.
Then of course there is the big question about how well it may read LCD
displays on appliances or the computer screen.

Sieghard

Hi all,

Wondering if anybody has tried this app, which apparently provides real-time

RE: Changing my CC #

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Debbie,

Yes, you can change your credit card number on your iPhone 5S very easily, here
is how:

1. Open the App Store

2. Make sure the “Featured” tab at the bottom left is selected

3. Again make sure focus is on that tab, then swipe left twice which
should put you on “Apple Id” followed by your Apple Id email. Double tap on that

4. A menu pops up with the following choices: View Apple Id, Sign Out, I
forget, Cancel

5. Double tap on “View Apple Id”, you will be asked for your Apple Id
password, enter it and double tap “OK”.

6. After a moment a new screen comes up which has the heading “Account”
at the top and a “Done” button at the top right
If you swipe right from that Done button, you find the following items (they
are all links or explanations):

Apple Id, link
Your Apple Id email, link
Then it explains: Editing your Apple Id and Password will take you to
AppleID.apple.com, link
Swipe right some more and you find:
Family Sharing, link
Payment Information, link
Country/region, link
Explanation that follows says: This country/region is shared by your family. To
change it, you must first leave your family.
Gifts, link
Ratings and reviews, link
Subscriptions (this is a heading level 2)
Manage, link (this refers to managing your subscriptions)
iTunes in the Cloud (another heading level 2)
Remove this device, link
Explanation: This device can be used with automatic downloads and can also
download previously purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps and books.
iTunes Pass (another heading level 2)
Add iTunes pass to wallet, link
Easily add money to your account using wallet at participating retailers. Add
iTunes Pass, then show it to the casheer when you check out.
iTunes Newsletters and Special Offers (another heading level 2)
Manage, link (this refers to the newsletters and special offers)
A final explanation at the bottom: Apple uses industry standard encryption to
protect the confidentially of your personal information.
Lastly, two more links for “Terms of Service” and “Privacy Policy”.

7. Obviously you want to double tap on the link for “Payment Information”.

8. On the screen that follows you have a “Cancel” button at the top left,
the “Account” heading in the middle and the “Done” button at the top right.
The first item after the Done button is an explanation: All family members
share the payment method shown below. Codes you redeem will be applied only to
your individual account.
After that comes a heading level 2: Payment Type
In my case, I have 3 radio buttons: Visa, Mastercard and Amex, Voiceover will
clearly tell you which one is checked.
Next comes another heading level 2: Payment Card
Card number: Voiceover will read what is currently there as “4 bullets, 4
bullets, 4 bullets and then the last 4 digits of the card you are currently
using. It’s a text field so you can double tap on it and enter a new number.
Next comes the security code and Voiceover tells you it’s required. This is a
text field and you have to double tap on it to put focus there so you can enter
your 3-digit card verification code (4 digits for Amex).
Now comes another heading level 2: Expiration date
Swipe right and you hear “Month, bullet bullet, pop up button. Swipe right and
you get year, 4 bullets, pop up button.
Double tap on either one and focus is placed on a picker control and you can
flick down with one finger, it starts at 12 (December) and each flick down goes
down to the previous month. The one for the year works the same. Once you
selected you rmonth and year, flick left to the “Done” button and double tap it.

9. Unless you also have to change your billing address which is what
comes next, you are now done and you can double tap on the “Done” button at the
top right.

10. This takes you back to the main screen, double tap “Done” again at the
top right and you are now back in the “Featured” tab of the App Store.

RE: Alarm Clock options?

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kerri,

As Richard said, you can select a song of your choice as your alarm sound. I
assume most people will wake up in the time it takes for an entire song to play
at which point you can turn on any music you like.

If you ever contemplate to invest in a Sonos Player or players, Sonos can wake
you up with any radio station, streaming music service or play list you want.
You set the time, the volume and the music and Sonos will start playing quietly
and slowly increase the volume to the maximum you set. You can also set it to
play for a certain period of time after it starts. If, for example, you usually
know you need to get up at 6:30 and leave the house at 7:30 you can set Sonos
to wake you at 6:30 and play for 1 hour then stop. Lastly, in case something
happens and your internet connection is not working, Sonos will still wake you,
but it will just use a generic tone to do so.

Hi Everyone:
Instead of the Iphone default ringtone for my alarm, I think I need the alarm
to be top 40 music to wake me up.
Is there an app or something where I could set it to wake me up with a top 40
station?
Is there any way to set the Iphone alarm to play the Top Pop station in Apple
music instead of the ringtone?
I looked in the Iheart radio app and there is an alarm there but you have to
apparently leave the app open all night in order for the alarm to go off.
Are there any apps where you can close the app and the alarm will still go off?
I looked in the Pandora radio app and there doesn't seem to be an alarm...
The problem is with the Iphohnes alarm I just roll over and turn it off...I
feel like if a station like Top Hits or Top Pop or something like that would
play that would wake me up more...any options?
Thanks,
Kerri

Now I thought that being told that it was a Maori word would have told the

I ha'e ma doots that a paper letter addressed to Can I Titty Titty would have

We do have a dairy-farming area called Waikikamukau[ pronounced why kick a moo

Amedia Live Reader app

Hi all,

Wondering if anybody has tried this app, which apparently provides real-time

Re: RENAMING PICTURES

2016-06-07 Thread Grant
If you use a Mac and you’ve enabled iCloud Photo Library, you can assign
descriptions to photos in the Photos App on your Mac. These will be reflected
when browsing pictures on your iPhone. I’m not aware of any other way to do
this using the native photos library.

Re: Siri

2016-06-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I personally don't think there's anything to worry about here. If a
personal assistant makes something easier for you then that just means
you have more time to work on another skill. The same argument can be
made for any piece of technology, any tool or any time saving machine.

Are we wanting to depend too much on the personal assistants these days.
It seems that some want them to do everything for them instead of
keeping our skills up by doing some things on our own? I am happy to use
dictation when I want to whip up a text message without taking too long
but if I need further communication, either the phone or email is much
better and I do it without any personal assistant intervening.

As I understand it, in iOS 10, Siri gets greatly improved and you should
be able to talk to her just like talking to a neighbor or friend.
Personally, I'm just waiting to see that for myself. I do know this

Re: Firefox Web browser

2016-06-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Although all of the browsers use the same underlying engine, performance
can still differ quite a bit. Here's a web page where you'll see that
Firefox compares favorably with Safari, while Chrome and Opera lag a bit
behind:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/and-the-best-web-browser-for-the-iphone-is/

There may be plenty of reasons to choose one web browser over another.
One may have a simpler or more intuitive interface for a particular
user. The reason I prefer Firefox is because I use that browser across
all of my platforms, Windows, Linux, Android and IOS, and I can keep my
information synced across any instance of Firefox I run on any platform.

The Reader function in Safari is definitely a reason to stick with
Safari. I'm not sure if this has an analogous function in Firefox or
not, but I hope so, and I need to take a look for it.

Bottom line is there are plenty of reasons to use one browser or app
over another. If they were all the same then there wouldn't be so many
options. Give them a try and use the one that feels the best to you.

Alarm Clock options?

2016-06-07 Thread Kerri Kosten
Hi Everyone:
Instead of the Iphone default ringtone for my alarm, I think I need
the alarm to be top 40 music to wake me up.
Is there an app or something where I could set it to wake me up with a
top 40 station?
Is there any way to set the Iphone alarm to play the Top Pop station
in Apple music instead of the ringtone?
I looked in the Iheart radio app and there is an alarm there but you
have to apparently leave the app open all night in order for the alarm
to go off.
Are there any apps where you can close the app and the alarm will still go off?
I looked in the Pandora radio app and there doesn't seem to be an alarm...
The problem is with the Iphohnes alarm I just roll over and turn it
off...I feel like if a station like Top Hits or Top Pop or something
like that would play that would wake me up more...any options?
Thanks,
Kerri

RE: RENAMING PICTURES

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tom,

What you are doing is simply applying a custom label to the file name and that
of course is only valid with Voiceover. You can’t rename picture files unless
of course you save them to your PC and do it there with the help of a sighted
person.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the tip. I've successfully assigned labels to several pictures in my
camera roll. While this method is certainly useful for helping me keep track
of which photo is which, I should point out that it doesn't actually rename
the file itself, as I discovered when I e-mailed a picture to a buddy of mine.
The file that he received as an attachment was called "img084.jpg" or something
like that. It would be really great if there was a way to rename the file
rather than update VoiceOver's graphics dictionary, if there is such a beast.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried any of the apps that allow you to rename
photographs immediately you've taken them and which ones you've found have
worked well and which are not worth the money?

I notice there are a few free ones but some seem not to have been updated for
at least three years, which is probably quite a time in the Apple world and I'd
like to find something, not overly complicated that has features I ccan use and
does the job well.

I'm just beginning to get into photoes and am really finding it a little
daunting, mainly because I seem to be getting so many pictures that are
currently not identified and I want to get them sorted and let them stay that
way.

Thanks for any help in this respect.

Questions regarding offer up

2016-06-07 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I was wondering, have any of you tried to use the application, offer up?
I installed it about a month ago, and found it very inaccessible. I was
wondering, is there a work around, to make this application more accessible?
If not, is there a craigslist application that is completely accessible, or
close enough anyway? Any help with this would be very much appreciated. Or use
craigslist a lot, which I probably shouldn't. But don't worry I like Amazon
also. LOL! And sometimes even Best Buy. But I'd like to go into that store. Not
buy stuff online from them.
Thank you very much!

Terri

Re: Firefox Web browser

2016-06-07 Thread Mary Otten
I wasn't aware that Firefox was accessible for the iPhone. I know on platforms
like windows, there is a reader that makes it like the safari reader. Is that
feature available on the iPhone version? I really like the safari reader. I
wouldn't be willing to give that up.

Re: RENAMING PICTURES

2016-06-07 Thread Tom Lange
Hi Richard,
Thanks for the tip.

Hi all,
I just thought I'd mention how much I'm enjoying the FireFox browser on the

easier and more consistent when it comes to closing opened pages:
If anyone hasn't given it a look, I'd recommend you may wish to do so.

Question about the If app for the If This Then That site VoiceOver iOS 9.3.2

2016-06-07 Thread Shai
Hello all,
Yesterday, I created an account with the ifttt (If this then that)
website on the computer and attempted to download their app for iOs.
After downloading it and opening the app, I tapped on the sign in
button which asked for my user name or email. I double tapped on the
text field to attempt to enter my information but I noticed that I
could not type since no onscreen letters were announced using
VoiceOver. I also tried closing out the app in the switcher and
reopening it with the same result. Is there another app I could use
which works with this site or a work around that others can suggest?
At this point, I am just trying to play with it and look at the skills
or "recipes" that are there to possibly add a few.
Thank you in advance for any responses

RE: Question on Siri

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I just asked SIRI exactly what Ed said and received this answer:

Sorry, I can’t play song charts by genre, but I can find top songs from a year
or I can create a country radio station for you.

I am wondering why SIRI doesn’t know the top song from a particular genre as
this information should be readily available, so let’s hope SIRI gets a lot
smarter soon.

Hi Ed,
It works, except you can’t get it to play the number 1 song for that year, and
it does not play charts by genre. Try saying “Play the number 1 song from June
1972”
That will play “Oh Girl” by The Chi-Lites.
I’m sure this is not what you wanted.
You can have Siri create a classic country station, or possibly even a station
featuring a particular artist like Pandora offers.

I hope this helps some.

Hell with the notion of dependency in regard to phones. I think the beauty of
the iPhone is its versatility. I don't think any of us are so rigid that we're
stuck on one way of operating our phones or at least that's not the impression
I get.

Hi,
One more thing to add to this, if you don’t know your phone thoroughly you
can’t fix things when/if they go wrong. I have always thought and been accused
of thinking wrongly that before you can make an informed decision on what input
method to choose, you must know them all. Some like the built-in keyboard has a
learning curve, but it’s rewarding when you know you don’t have to rely on
anybody in case your favorite input method were to act up on you.

Next Monday, Apple’s Worldwide developers conference begins with a big reveal.
We’ll find out about many of the key new features in iOS 10, the operating

system for the Mac, which may even get a new name. There may be software
announcements pertaining to Apple Watch and Apple TV, and who knows what other
surprises Apple may have in store.

WWDC is aimed at developers, so the presentation can get a bit geeky. And due
to limited time, a lot of information is flashed up on the screen in
presentation slides that are not spoken about during the presentation. To get a
straightforward, comprehensive analysis and summary of all the big news, you
won’t want to miss our special Tech Team presentation on Mushroom FM right
after the event.

One thing we promise. We’ll offer you detailed, constructive analysis. This is
no Apple commercial. The team brings a range of perspectives to the show that
will help you understand where Apple is innovating, where they’re catching up
and where they’re behind.

Android, Steve will offer his views on how Apple’s announcements stack up from
an Android user’s perspective.

Heidi Mosen is an iOS user and tech geek. She also is unique on the Tech Team

presentations display a lot of information on-screen that isn’t discussed.
Heidi will be taking copious notes during the keynote event, so she can answer
detailed questions and comment on user interface and other issues she’s been
able to see from the demos.

And I, Jonathan Mosen, will be chiming in, moderating the conversation, and
doing my best to ensure you’re informed and entertained.

The Tech Team will begin by discussing the big news among themselves, then
we’ll open it up for discussion to find out what you think. You can Skype us,
or call us via numbers all over the world. Details about those numbers closer
to the time. We’ll also be monitoring the #MushroomFM Twitter hashtag.

If you have an interest in tech from a blindness perspective, you’ll want to
set two hours aside to join the Tech Team. We go to air right after the
keynote, at 4 PM Eastern, 9 PM UK, next Monday 13 June. See you then.

Hi Fanus,

Googling “How to fix a -45054 error in the iTunes Store” brought up an Apple
support article with the following instructions (I modified this a bit to
hopefully make it easier to follow when it comes to how you get to the
“ProgramData folder etc.:

If files or folders that iTunes uses to download purchases are restricted, you
might see an alert message that reads:

"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error has occurred
(-45054)."

Fix a -45054 error on a PC

1. If it's open, quit iTunes.

2. Go to your root folder by pressing the Windows key and type c: into the
search box then press enter. You can also press Windows Key+R for the run
dialogue, then type c: and press enter.

3. Show any hidden files or folders:

Windows 10: Click View, then select "Hidden items.", ribbon shortcut is Alt+V
then h and h

Windows 8: Click View, then click Options. On the View tab, select "Show hidden
files, folders, and drives."

Windows 7: Click the Tools menu, then arrow to "Folder Options" (Alt+T then O)
and On the View tab, select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives.".

4. Once you selected to show hidden files and folders, find the "ProgramData"
folder in the root drive and press enter.

5. Open the Apple Computer folder, then the iTunes folder.

6. Right-click the adi folder and choose Delete from the menu.

7. Right-click the SC Info folder and choose Delete from the menu.

8. Restart the computer.

9. Open iTunes and try to make a purchase.

Good luck,

Sieghard

RE: RENAMING PICTURES

2016-06-07 Thread Richard Turner
I’ve only renamed them in the camera roll or photos app and they have never
left as I’ve updated iOS.

If you are labeling pictures in another app, I don’t know. I hope they stick.

Happy labelling,

Richard

RE: what are the options to export the images or text from knfb reader?

2016-06-07 Thread Richard Turner
KNFB Reader is primarily for extracting text from a picture of a document. It
has a built-in feature to "add page to document" so you can compile many pages
into one document. I know of no way to piece all that back together unless you
first export the text from each one and then use a word processing app to put
it all together.
In the file manager, hit edit, then select the file you want and hit the export
option. Not sure what it is called exactly as my phone is in the other room.
Then, select plain text and the file can be exported as a text file.

HTH,
Richard

RE: error -465054 in itunes music store

2016-06-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Good luck,
Sieghard

As I understand it, in iOS 10, Siri gets greatly improved and you should be
able to talk to her just like talking to a neighbor or friend. Personally, I'm
just waiting to see that for myself. I do know this though. Sooner or later
it will happen.

RE: Search for cell network under system services, what is it?

2016-06-07 Thread Gary Bowers
I was away from my computer, so I could not respond earlier. You guys were
right, I found System Services right where you said it was.

I appreciate the help. Now I'm on the same page as the rest of you.

Thanks again to all of you.

Yes, it is on all phones and if you use the 4-finger single tap to go all the
way to the bottom in Settings > Privacy > Location Services you do have to
swipe left 3 times to get to System Services.
The last 3 items explain what the meaning of various coloured icons is, but as
Voiceover users you don't have to worry aboutthat as Voiceover announces what
for sighted people is indicated by colours or an outlined icon.

I have an iPhone 4S, and I see System Services near the bottom of the Location
Services list. It isn't all the way at the bottom. On my phone, it's about
three up from the bottom.

Re: which navigon app

2016-06-07 Thread Don Breda

Hi there.

Truthfully I used to be a big navigon fan but I would not recommend it
at all anymore.

I used it a couple of weeks ago and it never alerted me when I was at
my destination which it was always the best at doing.

It didn't display street names anymore in some cases as it used to but
instead displayed route numbers which were not helpful to me since I
didn't know the area.

Gry google maps.

Next Monday, Apple’s Worldwide developers conference begins with a big reveal.
We’ll find out about many of the key new features in iOS 10, the operating
system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that will be released later in the year.
We’ll learn about the name and feature set of the next version of the operating
system for the Mac, which may even get a new name.

On our tech team for this show are:

Allison Hartley, so much of an Apple fan that she even includes the brand in
her own Twitter Name, @AppleAlli. She’s also the co-host of the Tech Doctor
podcast.

Steve Nutt knows his way around iOS and VoiceOver, but he’s a committed Android
user and advocate. If you’re debating whether your next device should be iOS or
Android, Steve will offer his views on how Apple’s announcements stack up from
an Android user’s perspective.

Heidi Mosen is an iOS user and tech geek. She also is unique on the Tech Team
show in that she has eyeballs that work. As already mentioned, these Apple
presentations display a lot of information on-screen that isn’t discussed.

It depends in which country you live.

If you are in the United States, you can buy Navigon for your region, Western,
Central or Eastern, or by the whole United States package, or the North America
package that includes Canada.

As others will point out, Google Maps does a good job and is free. Though in
some cases, I’ve found Navigon finds things that Google doesn’t.

If you are in the United States, mapQuest is also very good, but they won’t let
third party apps like BlindSquare launch them, which is a shame.

Later,

Richard

I have the BlindSquare app, and the instructions say I can use the Navigon app

I searched for “Navigon”, and got a number of navigon apps, which one should I
purchase for use with BlindSquare?

Thanks.

Re: Using my iPodTouch to make a Video?

2016-06-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
3 more thoughts:

Recording: remember that the camera is recording as soon as you press that
button, hwile you are putting it on the mount and you
are getting into position; so having got there, count yourselfin 4.3.2.1.Go!,
pause for 2 beats, opening greeting, opening remarks
to say what you are about, embark on main presentation.

At the end, final remarks or conclusion, final goodbyes; freeze for 2 beats,
then go grab the device and stop it, etc.

Editing:

make sure you know the video editing controls, you now need to top and tail
it, which is why you put pauses and count in, so you
have cues to stop at and mark, then delete from start to first mark, and then
go right to the end to set End marker, then rewind
until you hear yourself, and play until your goodbuye, then stop, set marker,
and delete marker to the end.

Errors; just try and keep going, appologise or work around it if it doesn't
go that smoothly, don't try stopping and starting and
redoing bits mid flow; you'll never be able to put it together afterwards. Do
as abovein a single take to top and tail, do it
more than once if not too long and then check all 3 for what you regard as the
best one.

It should start with your opening greeting and end at your final goodbye with
none of the leader and trailing litter.

Re: Using my iPodTouch to make a Video?

2016-06-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
A further thought:

To address audience in the right manner, think of someone you like, respect,
absolutely non-gender, so make this person someone
from childhood maybe, but not parent as this will put the level of
communication on the wrong plane. When you find someone you can
talk to freely as an equal and a friend; address yourself to the camera as
being that person.

My first thoughts:

Be sure to grasp the concept of viewing angle ( which is essentially conicle
fanning out from the camera lense), so you know how
wide it is at how far; so you can be sure you have all you need to show, fully
in the angle of view.

Make sure you're always fully aware of where the device is so you can address
it directly; talking off at an angle breaks the
thread of communication, unless you focus on some third element you are
demonstrating, in which case, you should be able to direct
the viewing public's attention to that element.

i.e: the camera is the person you are addressing, so address it in the manner
you would address the person who is to watchit. A
camera is the one way to do 1 - to - 1 communication to a collective audience.

Hi!
Not sure at the moment since I'm not using POP3 protocol but maybe
the easiest way would be to delete and create the desired account

If you are not comfortable with that try to explore advanced

Re: Siri, YouTube

2016-06-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Google is quite good at isolating phonymns rather than spellings, and does a
good line in context quite often. This as distinct
from trying to reverse-TTS (STT) to reproduce a written phrase,... whichit
probably then submits to the search engines. Even
Google would choke on a second-hand chinese whisper.
This scenario more than explains some of siri's greatest bloopers.

Yes, it does get things wrong although I assume if you had perfect
pronunciation and clear speech there wouldn't be many mistakes.
If, for example, I dictate in German which is my first language it is almost
perfect, but then again German spelling is also a lot
simpler than English spelling since typically there aren't two or sometimes
maybe even 3 different ways to spell certain words as in
English. For example, "there" and "their", "hear" and "here", "bear" and "bare"
etc. Anyhow, I did say " except for any potential
mistakes" and I definitely don't want to defend SIRI because sometimes it
really does interpret what you say in interesting ways and
I think we all hope for major improvements both with dictation and especially
with what queries SIRI can answer and how it can
handle more compound queries.

Whenever you are dictating it's like you are writing the information, except
for any potential mistakes SIRI will put exactly what
you say. Dictation is also done via SIRI, but it is just voice recognition just
the same as when you dictate a text message. Then if
you dictate a phrase or whatever and you are in the Youtube search box then of
course whatever is found is up to how Youtube matches
what you said.
If you use SIRI and ask "When was Albert Einstein's birthday" or something
similar the answer depends on what sources SIRI has
available and is checking for answers. Here SIRI is not as good as other
virtual assistants such as the one from Google which seems
to come up with useful information more often.

I guess what I was noticing is that when I dictate a query in the search field

brings me up pretty near exactly what I'm looking for. When I asked Siri a

it or not? What she will find? Why is the performance so much less able to
recognize the nature of the information I am seeking?

I have to disagree, in that, Siri doesn't write exactly what you said: Siri
writes what he * thinks
you said, and that can make an embarrassing difference.

Whenever you are dictating it's like you are writing the information, except
for any potential
mistakes SIRI will put exactly what you say. Dictation is also done via SIRI,
but it is just voice
recognition just the same as when you dictate a text message. Then if you
dictate a phrase or
whatever and you are in the Youtube search box then of course whatever is found
is up to how Youtube
matches what you said.
If you use SIRI and ask "When was Albert Einstein's birthday" or something
similar the answer
depends on what sources SIRI has available and is checking for answers. Here
SIRI is not as good as
other virtual assistants such as the one from Google which seems to come up
with useful information
more often.

I guess what I was noticing is that when I dictate a query in the search field
in YouTube I can use
very natural speech and it brings me up pretty near exactly what I'm looking
for. When I asked Siri
a question what determines whether she'll be able to answer it or not? What she
will find? Why is
the performance so much less able to recognize the nature of the information I
am seeking?

Re: Siri, YouTube

2016-06-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
I'm not sure if Apple have their own search engine servers, I thought siri
might just submit any search term to the big boys like
google, then filter the responses before sending it you back. Global web
crawling is not really Apple's thing, so a bit of an error
if they have one dedicated for siri's use.
Some of the big names don't even do the crawling for themselves, they submit
the search term to all the other biggest ones and
combine the results. Apple could try that, but how to then filter would then be
an issue.

In short, I don't necessarily know an answer, but am just looking at some of
the related questions or issues.

OK, I understand all this, but I guess my question is a little out there since
you don't seem to understand what I'm asking. Or
nobody else knows what I'm asking either! I just don't know why Siri's
performance is so miserable at times when asking her to look
something up or find something or answer a question. On the contrary when I
plug something into a search engine I get far better
results. I suppose these are two different systems of gathering information
