MBraille Not Working Well in IOS 10

2016-10-01 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I hope I am the only one having the problem, but MBraille is not working very
well in IOS 10. It will crash for no reason, sometimes after only a few
letters, and I have to start over. It seems especially bad when I am using it
as a third-party keyboard. Until it can be straightened out, I guess I will
have to learn to use Apple's braille screen input. I miss MBraille! I hope I
am the only one having problems with it.Arnold Schmidt

RE: Text messaging, getting to the newest message

2016-10-01 Thread Alan Lemly
Maybe my Messages app works differently from the other repliers but when I open
a message thread, the components of it are listed from oldest to newest with
the most recent at the bottom, not the top of the screen. If you find focus at
the top or on the oldest part of the thread, place focus on the leftmost button
on the bottomline menu and swipe left once. This should move you to the bottom
or most recent message in the thread.

RE: New Sams Club app

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just like with any new technology there often is a period where accessibility
suffers, but at the same time some of the same technology may have the capacity
to be made accessible. One example is bank machines as in ATM terminals. At
least here in Canada they are by now pretty much all accessible as long as you
have a headset with you that you can plug in. I guess one twist of the new
iPhone 7 and models going forward is that I'll have to make sure I have a 3.5mm
headset in my backpack or that I definitely have the 3.5mm adapter with me
since of course I doubt ATM's will be equipped with a Lightning port any time
soon.
So, Brent, for the time being you'll have to snatch somebody to get that soda
or, of course you could simply bring your own which is much cheaper *smile*.

percentage of theft/disception. On the other hand they are basically making the
shoppers perform the work a casheer usually would perform so they are saving
money and I doubt people steel more this way then any other way. If somebody
wants to steel they do it regardless and either get away with it or not. If
they get caught they typically get a slap on the wrist which in most cases
won't prevent them from doing it again on the next day or the next week.

So, I found this to be very interesting.
What is preventing someone to scan a few items, and slip smaller items into
their cart with out scanning?
They don't have to see a casheer to verify all items have been paid for?
I don't think the person at the door looks at all the items in the cart and
what was paid for that closely do they?
This just feels like an open door to someone getting away without paying for
everything if they can get away with it.
Anyways, not bashing, just some thoughts that came to mind.

For Sams Club members there is a new app called Scanb to go. It will allow you
to scan your items as you place them in your cart. It will keep a running total
and when you are done you can pay with your phone and show the receipt on your
phone to the person at the door, thus by-passing the cashier. It is accessible
but unfortunately knowing where they place the bar codes isn't.

Thanks for the review – extremely interesting. What I’d like to know before
going ahead and buying them is whether there is noticeable or acceptable lag
when using VO on either your phone or Mac. If there was even a quarter second
delay that would be unsupportable in my experience.

Also it would be great to know what the in-ear buds are like. Hard like earPods

Re: Need to know how to wipe an iphone clean

2016-10-01 Thread englishrider91
While Rajmund's answer was a good one, here's a few more steps that would be a
great idea to take. I'm pasting in the text of an article beneath this
paragraph, followed by the link after that.

How-To: Safely prepare + wipe your iPhone for resale or trade-in – 9to5Mac

If you’re thinking of selling or trading in your current iPhone ahead of the
iPhone 6S’s release, you probably know that you’ll need to wipe your device
before a buyer can use it free and clear. Prepping an iPhone for resale used to
be almost as easy as hitting a “reset” button in the iPhone’s settings menu.
But over the past few years, the process has become more complex thanks to new
security, wallet, and cloud-dependent features such as Activation Lock, Apple
Pay and iTunes in the Cloud. Completely removing all of your personal items
from your iPhone — and your iPhone from Apple’s servers — requires extra work.

Today, I’m going to walk you through the process of thoroughly scrubbing your
iPhone prior to resale. There are 9 steps to take to make sure your device is
cleaned up and ready to sell to its next owner. Here they are…

[1] Erase All Content And Settings. The first, easiest, and best-known step in
wiping your iPhone is found within the Settings app at the bottom of the
General menu: click on Reset, then “Erase All Content And Settings.” (I’d
suggest taking this step only after using iTunes to do two complete, encrypted
backups of your iPhone to your computer. If you’re planning to move from iPhone
to a non-Apple smartphone, follow Apple’s guide to deactivating iMessage before
erasing your phone, as well.)

You will be prompted to enter your iPhone’s passcode, then told that “this will
delete all media and data, and erase all settings.” If you press the Erase
iPhone button, iOS will ask you for your iCloud account password to “erase this
iPhone and remove it from your [iCloud] account.”

You’ll be surprised at how quickly the iPhone is wiped — as soon as you’ve
entered your password and hit erase, you’ll get a notification email on your
account’s other devices that Find My iPhone was disabled, and it should take
only a couple of minutes for the wiped iPhone to display “Hello” and “Slide to
Set Up” text. Is the erasure secure? Well, all of the iPhone’s memory is
protected using AES-256 encryption, and hitting the Erase iPhone button
destroys the encryption key. Several security companies have tried to offer
‘secure erase’ tools that more aggressively scrub the iPhone’s memory, but
Apple has shut those tools down as ‘misleading,’ noting that the encryption is
effectively unbreakable. Hitting the Reset button leaves the former contents of
your device all but completely impossible to recover by a subsequent owner. But
you’ll be able to get everything back from your computer’s encrypted iTunes
backup, should you need it.

[2] What About Activation Lock + Disabling Find My iPhone? As shown above, you
can manually disable Find My iPhone by going into the Settings app’s iCloud
menu, pressing the Find My iPhone “On” button, flipping the Find My iPhone
switch to off, and entering your iCloud password. But if you use the Erase All
Content And Settings feature above, this step is automatically handled for you
when you enter your iCloud password at the end of the process. Either method
will disable your iPhone’s “Activation Lock,” the security system that allows
you to locate, remotely wipe, and send signals to an iPhone no longer in your
possession. Any purchaser of a used iPhone will expect you to have taken this
step (or more wisely, the step above) before selling your device.

[3] Apple Pay/Credit Card and Touch ID Fingerprint Wiping. If you’re using an
iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or newer iPhone, erasing your iPhone will
automatically purge whatever credit cards and fingerprints you’ve stored in
your iPhone. (Even attempting to disable fingerprint protection for your device
will prevent it from storing cards for Apple Pay.) You will probably receive a
collection of emails from your banks noting each “Virtual card” that has been
“deleted from Apple Pay,” and you may also receive notices of the card’s
deletion from your Apple Watch. If you want to manually remove individual cards
or fingerprints, the Settings app’s Touch ID & Passcode menu handles prints,
and the Passbook & Apple Pay (iOS 8) or Wallet & Apple Pay (iOS 9) menu handles
cards. But even if you delete cards for Apple Pay, your iPhone can still store
card numbers for Safari web transactions; they can be deleted under Settings >
Safari > AutoFill > Credit Cards.

[4] Carrier Lock + Clearing The ESN/IMEI/MEID. Buyers of used iPhones want to
avoid purchasing devices that are either stolen, or still under contract with a
cellular company. The status of an iPhone can be checked using a
device-specific serial number that’s called an IMEI (International Mobile
Equipment Identity) number, ESN (Electronic Serial Number), or

not. If they get caught they typically get a slap on the wrist which in most
cases won't prevent them from doing it again on the next day or the next week.

It will allow
you to scan your items as you place them in your cart. It will keep a running
total and when you are done you can pay with your phone and show the receipt on
your phone to the person at the door, thus by-passing the cashier. It is
accessible but unfortunately knowing where they place the bar codes isn't.

iPad Mini and Contacts

2016-10-01 Thread Jim Portillo
Howdy!

Question.

I just got an iPad Mini for a steal of a price and am setting up. It's an
iPad Mini 2, but for what I need to do, it's fine with me.

I decided to set it up as a new device rather than going and restoring from
iCloud, which only has my iPhone backup. I wasn't sure I wanted all of the
apps I have on my phone to go on the iPad.

One thing I'd like to know is how I can get my contacts onto my iPad without
having to rebuild the list. I have many contacts on my phone and think it
would be easy and good to have them on my iPad as well.

I've got my email accounts set up, but with email come contacts.

Any advice?

Jim

Re: Suppress iOS 10 update message

2016-10-01 Thread Dave
it isn't necesary to do a back-up every day, unless, you are installing
apps, and data, on a daily basis.

Also there use to be a back up now button, which you can do manualy, in the
iCloud settings, without having to charge and lock your handset.

I think that this option, is still there, but i am not 100 percent sure.

However, make sure, that your phone is fully charged, before doing a manual
back-up.

and as you say, you also can do it through iTunes.

unless you don’t care about that and backup through iTunes.

The only way, i can think of, is to delete any update that has already
been downloaded, and turn off WiFi, when you are charging your phone.

This will stop the redownload of the update.

Just remember, that once your phone is fully charged, you should remove
the charging cable and turn back on your WiFi.

The download can be removed from the device, eliminating the nag message,
and freeing up 1gb from your device.
When a person is ready to upgrade, simply re-download from the app store.

Actually, turning off wi-fi when a device is charging is a good idea, and
not one I’ve thought about. That way, the update won’t be downloaded as
that

requires wi-fi. Just remember to turn it back on again when the device is

Hi,
Speaking strictly for my experience and device. You got it that's exactly
how I shipped my phone to them minus accessories as they specifically didn't

Hi Robin,

"New condition" basically means in the original box with all accessories
(unused headphones/earpods) and not a single scratch on it. This is pretty
difficult with any used iPhone.
As for Cathy, I would wait to see what they say and if they insist the phone
is not working I would ask them to send it back so you can check yourself.
If it is truely not working there is of course a chance something happened
to it during transport, but then you would only have a chance if it was
insured and you can proof it.
I guess this goes to show one should maybe do a little video before shipping
off such devices showing the phone works and show the screen with the
phone's serial number and so on and also have a credible witness there in
the video, then show when you turn the phone off, place it in the box and
tape it up.

Yesterday they sent me an email saying that the device was broken, wouldn't

The device was working when I shut it down. I am sure that the screen

Well, the description for reset all in settings still says erase all content
and settings so I have to believe this will remove any iCloud and Apple I'd
settings as well. Who told you that was no longer the case under iOS 10 since
it seems very unlikely that Apple would remove the ability to reset an I device

Good luck and enjoy your iPhone 7 Plus.

Reject! trying to get it for nothing. I hate that kind of ripoff. Bare in
mind, they might try to charge you for returning it, they might not send you
yours back, but a broken one.

The choice is yours. But one I don't envy.

They said they were prepared to offer me $110 +5% for Amazon gift card option
from my iPhone 5s. When I excepted the offer they sent
me a nice box, in which I sent the phone, after removing from find my iPhone.
Since using voice over, felt uncomfortable completely
erasing the phone because of how I wouldn't know for sure when I had powered it
off.

Yesterday they sent me an email saying that the device was broken, wouldn't
power on, and offering me $20, which I can except or
reject by October 5. The device was working when I shut it down. I am sure
that the screen curtain was off. I didn't think about
adjusting the brightness, which I had at zero. I did an online chat with them,
where I explained these things, and they said they
would put it through reinspection and get back to me next week. Interesting how
on their website they don't have a phone number, but
I found one on Google, which I will have to see if it works. So, just wondered
if any of you had experiences with gazelle? Had
gotten a Nother phone from AT, which was prepared to offer 65, so I had tried
gazelle thinking I would do better.

RE: Perhaps cautionary tale about Gazelle

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Robin,

"New condition" basically means in the original box with all accessories
(unused headphones/earpods) and not a single scratch on it. This is pretty
difficult with any used iPhone.
As for Cathy, I would wait to see what they say and if they insist the phone is
not working I would ask them to send it back so you can check yourself. If it
is truely not working there is of course a chance something happened to it
during transport, but then you would only have a chance if it was insured and
you can proof it.
I guess this goes to show one should maybe do a little video before shipping
off such devices showing the phone works and show the screen with the phone's
serial number and so on and also have a credible witness there in the video,
then show when you turn the phone off, place it in the box and tape it up.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,
I used them years ago and got a message that they listed my phone as in good
condition rather than like new. I wrote back saying I had documentation to
prove other wise but also checked the box to accept their lower amount as it
was either that or they sent phone back for choices and I got the original
estimate they quoted me. Now that I'm on the trade up plan from my carrier
I've not the need to deal with them anymore.
If you don't like their offer you can always get your device back.

RE: Listening to Classical Music with Bluetooth

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would take a look at the UE Boom or Mega Boom, these are made by Logitech and
"UE" stands for "Ultimate Ears". These are very nice 360 degree speakers which
are waterproof and get great ratings. They are, however, not cheap, but the
quality you get of course is very much related to what you spend. If you are
looking for something under $100 nothing will give you really good sound
quality. The Ultimate Ears line of speakers can be used as single speakers or
you can buy two and set them up as a stereo pair.

The website is www.UltimateEars.com and they are available on Amazon, from Best
Buy and maybe also the Apple Store online, can't remember exactly, but I think
I saw them there.

All,

Are there any good bluetooth speakers that will produce good sound quality when
listening to classical music without distortion at a higher volume? Right now I
use a Soundbrick Plus which is fairly good for most kinds of music but terrible
for symphonies/choral music.

RE: Text messaging app with IOS 10 being visual

If all you want to do is send a basic text message then it's really no
different than before. Yes, the send button is a bit smaller, but if you are
typing text and are in the edit field all it takes is a flick right and you are
on it.

The only thing different with the text messaging app is that the send button is
a bit tricky to find some times. The best way to find it is to slide right
while in the text box and you should see it. Some times if you put your finger
in the right place you'll get it pretty quick.

RE: New Sams Club app

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is not that different from self checkout lanes, if somebody really wanted to
steel smaller items that way they can also do so, all they would have to do is
hold a smaller item behind a larger one when they scan at the self checkout and
then put it back in the cart. I think all of these systems count on most people
being honest, but I am equally sure that these big companies also factor in a
percentage of theft/disception.

Sieghard

RE: Facetime

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is a Voip app for making voice or video calls between iOS device users. It
works just like iMessage except it is voice or video/voice and it is only
between users of iOS devices and of course they must have Facetime enabled on
their devices. If the person you ant to call does have an iPhone, iPad or iPod
Touch, has it turned on and is connected to WiFi or a cellular network then you
simply ask SIRI to make a Facetime Audio call or a Facetime call to so and so
or you can of course go into that person's contact and tap the appropriate
button. The call then starts and the other person's device will ring just like
when they receive a phone call, they can pick up and at that point you are
talking via the data connection (WiFi or Cell data).

Sieghard

RE: [blind-philly-comp] Problem With Enhanced Siri Voices No Longer Available to VoiceOver After Restoring an iPhone 6S

2016-10-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The SIRI voices may just take time to download, try going into SIRI settings
and switch SIRI to another language like British or Australian and then back to
US and see what happens. I know you are talking about using the SIRI voices in
Voiceover, but obviously if the high quality voice hasn't downloaded it won't
be available and forcing it to redownload this way has worked for me in the
past.

As for speed I suggest you do a complete restore and see if your iPhone behaves
more snappy when it is set up as a new phone and without having first restored
a backup. If so and it becomes slower again after restoring your backup it
might be time to set it up as a new phone and configure it freshly the way you
want, sync your data back to the phone and so on. Every few years I find this
helps, backups can contain their own baggage so to speak especially if they are
years old and have been restored from older devices to newer ones. I know
setting up as a new phone is a bit of work, but it can be a good thing in the
long run and then once it is all the way you want simply delete the old backup
in iCloud or iTunes and do a new one.

Sieghard

Subject: [blind-philly-comp] Problem With Enhanced Siri Voices No Longer
Available to VoiceOver After Restoring an iPhone 6S

   David Goldfield,
Assistive Technology Specialist

Feel free to visit my Web site
WWW.DavidGoldfield.Info
The following is a note which I sent to Apple Accessibility concerning a
problem where I am unable to use enhanced Siri voices with VoiceOver on iOS 10.
If any of you have a fix for this problem, I'd be grateful for a solution.

Hello.

I am writing concerning a problem which I am unable to solve. This issue
concerns an iPhone 6S, 64 GB model. The same problem has affected a family
member who owns an iPhone 6, 128 GB.

Here are the details of my device and the problem I am experiencing.

I am visually impaired and use VoiceOver for access. I use the U.S. Siri
enhanced male voice. My iPhone 6S initially came preinstalled with iOS 9. Its
speed and overall performance were extremely satisfactory using VoiceOver. When
iOS 10 was publicly released, I downloaded and installed it onto my 6S. I
noticed that some apps took a longer time to load. I also noticed a slightly
longer than usual delay when performing the two-finger scrub gesture to move
back to the previous screen. While I wouldn't say that the delays were
unacceptable, I admit to being disappointed at the difference in performance on
a phone which is still a very recent model. I decided to perform a complete
reset and erase, followed by a restore from a recent iTunes backup, hoping that
doing so might increase my phone's performance.

After performing the restore from iTunes, I noticed that there was no
difference in my phone's performance. However, I was unable to switch to the
enhanced Siri voices with VoiceOver as these voices were no longer listed as
available choices. While it was possible to set VoiceOver to any of the Siri
voices, these were just the lower-quality voices. The enhanced voices no longer
appeared as possible choices. Please understand that these enhanced Siri voices
were available to me when I initially upgraded from iOS 9 to iOS 10. They
disappeared when I performed a reset and restore on my phone.

This is very troubling to me as these are my favorite voices and I very much
prefer them over the other voices from Nuance and I would very much like them
back. As I indicated, another family member who also uses VoiceOver is
experiencing the same problem with his iPhone 6. If there is a way to return
these voices to my phone, I would appreciate learning how this is done. If this
is a bug due to resetting or restoring the device, I would greatly appreciate
it if Apple could investigate the cause of the problem.

Many thanks.

RE: Need Some Navigon Help

2016-10-01 Thread Rob
Is there a free update for Navigon maps? I have had Navigon for several years.
Usually, there is a free map update about once a year. But I haven't seen any
message in the app or any other indication that a map update is available. Did
I miss something? There is usually a limited time to take the map update free.

Hello Jed,

I’m just getting to grips with the new look of Navigon.
In the Map Manager, no maps are downloaded automatically. You have to
double-tap with one finger on each map that you want, then go to the bottom of
the list and double-tap on Accept Changes or whatever it says. The selected
maps will then start downloading, and beside each will be the amount already
downloaded followed by a slash and the full size of the map. Clicking on the
Open button must do something visual because all I find is a Close button.
I had to uninstall and reinstall Navigon to make the Map Manager do its job.

Cheers,

Anne

Voice Dream Reader and iCloud

2016-10-01 Thread Christina C.
Hi,

I never did turn on iCloud sync with Voice Dream Reader. Now that some time has
passed, I was wondering if you are loving it and if the wrinkles have been
ironed out. I’d also like to know what things I might need to be aware of if I
turn on the iCloud sync for Voice Dream Reader. I would backup my library
before I try it. However, I’d like to know what you all think before I decide
to try it.

Thanks so much,
Christina

You may not want to do that. Apple recommends pressing the power and home
buttons instead. Using the below method could corrupt data on the phone.

2016-10-01 Thread Les Kriegler
Paul, if you locate the MLB TV option and do a one finger double tap, then flip
through the games, they will list the free game of the day and you can click on
that and you should be in business. Just remember to turn on location services.

Hi!
Not sure will it work on iOS 10 since my old 4S can't upgrade
there but if you logout from iCloud, iMessages, Facetime and few
other things including Find my iPhone you should be OK. In fact,
be sure you logg out of Find my Iphone because this feature
remains active after restoring to factory settings, due to
security reasons. I formatted my 4S and right now a friend of mine
is using it with his credentials and I don't see it in my iCloud

Listening to Classical Music with Bluetooth

2016-10-01 Thread kelby carlson
All,

Are there any good bluetooth speakers that will produce good sound
quality when listening to classical music without distortion at a
higher volume? Right now I use a Soundbrick Plus which is fairly good
for most kinds of music but terrible for symphonies/choral music.

Re: Perhaps cautionary tale about Gazelle

2016-10-01 Thread gs
Their instructions recommend resetting the phone. This is perfectly possible
with VO and should have been done else your data is still on the phone. You can
determine if the phone is powered on by using the mute switch and if it
vibrates, it's on. Also, if you triple click home after the reset, VO will
activate.

Even if you did mistakenly leave the phone powered on and put it in the box,
the worst that could happen is the battery would go flat.

I have sold two phones to them and never had a problem. I'm sure experiences
may vary.

felt uncomfortable completely erasing the phone because of how I wouldn't know
for sure when I had powered it off.

Yesterday they sent me an email saying that the device was broken, wouldn't
power on, and offering me $20, which I can except or reject by October 5. The
device was working when I shut it down. I am sure that the screen curtain was
off. I didn't think about adjusting the brightness, which I had at zero. I did
an online chat with them, where I explained these things, and they said they
would put it through reinspection and get back to me next week. Interesting how
on their website they don't have a phone number, but I found one on Google,
which I will have to see if it works. So, just wondered if any of you had

Reject! trying to get it for nothing. I hate that kind of ripoff. Bare in
mind, they might try to charge you for returning it,
they might not send you yours back, but a broken one.

Hi,
I used them years ago and got a message that they listed my phone as in good
condition rather than like new.

Re: Disabling iCloud on the phone I am going to get rid of

2016-10-01 Thread Alan Lemly
Well, the description for reset all in settings still says erase all content
and settings so I have to believe this will remove any iCloud and Apple I'd
settings as well. Who told you that was no longer the case under iOS 10 since
it seems very unlikely that Apple would remove the ability to reset an I device
completely for those selling or trading them.

Good luck and enjoy your iPhone 7 Plus.

I love this keyboard. It took me a little bit to get used to, I won't lie. It's

Hi,

Have you tried doing a four-finger single tap at the top of the screen? You
should land on the edit button. Now flick right a couple of times, and then you

Re: Need Some Navigan Help

2016-10-01 Thread Anne Robertson

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Advice for those with the new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus

2016-10-01 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
Well, Wayne, I'm really glad you got that phone replaced. Maybe, as
yours got water damaged, they will look again to see just how well the 7
really will stand up to that sort of damage.

Now, no taking your phone to the bathroom in future! It will wait for
you outside :)

Greetings. I know it is a generic subject, but this is a cautionary
tale for those that have the new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus phones. If you
have any hesitation of your phone not working as expected, don't wait
a long time or think that the problem will go away or will fix itself,
before you take your device back to an Apple Store. In my own case, I
accidentally dropped my new 7 in a bathtub with about 4 inches of
water. I pulled the phone out, dried it off, but noticed that the
speaker did not seem as loud. I took my phone to the Apple Store and
had a technician look at it. He did several tests with the speaker and
the microphone, and he did find that a mike was not working as
expected. Then, no questions asked, he swapped my ten day old phone
out with a brand new one of the same color and gig size as my last
one. I took the new one home and was able to restore from my latest
ICloud backup, which happened to be that afternoon. I've heard on the
Macbreak Weekly podcast that the Apple Stores have a certain number of
phones available to swap out in these cases, and they will do the
swapping no questions asked if they can verify the problem. The deal
is you have to take your phone inwithin the first two weeks or so
after you get it. IN my case, the phone was advertised as being water
resistant, and a mike evidently had some water damage after the
phone's swim in the tub. However, if you hear hissing or other strange
noises from your new phone, then it is worth taking a trip to the
Apple Store.

Kind regards,
Wayne

Text messaging, getting to the newest message

Hi: I find on occasions, when I go into my messages old messages are
appearing and to get to the newest ones, I have to flick through the screen.
Is there a keystroke to get to the most recent message without going through
that? Thanks.

Re: VO and mail app ios 10

2016-10-01 Thread Kimberly
Yes. VO behavior in the mail is what's kept me from updating the iOS on my main
device.

The bug you describe, as well as the one where the two finger flick up does not
start at the beginning of the message are the two worst bugs in the mail app in
my opinion.

Re: Perhaps cautionary tale about Gazelle

2016-10-01 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I used them years ago and got a message that they listed my phone as in good
condition rather than like new.

Subject: Perhaps cautionary tale about Gazelle

They said they were prepared to offer me $110 +5% for Amazon gift card
option from my iPhone 5s. When I excepted the offer they sent me a nice box,
in which I sent the phone, after removing from find my iPhone. Since using
voice over, felt uncomfortable completely erasing the phone because of how I
wouldn't know for sure when I had powered it off.

Yesterday they sent me an email saying that the device was broken, wouldn't
power on, and offering me $20, which I can except or reject by October 5.
The device was working when I shut it down. I am sure that the screen
curtain was off. I didn't think about adjusting the brightness, which I had
at zero. I did an online chat with them, where I explained these things, and
they said they would put it through reinspection and get back to me next
week. Interesting how on their website they don't have a phone number, but I
found one on Google, which I will have to see if it works. So, just wondered
if any of you had experiences with gazelle? Had gotten a Nother phone from
AT, which was prepared to offer 65, so I had tried gazelle thinking I
would do better.

I am needing to know if there is a good, VoiceOver accessible accounting app
that also works well with a bluetooth braille display.
We have a client needing to keep track of a few accounts, expenses, income, etc.
Thanks,

Perhaps cautionary tale about Gazelle

2016-10-01 Thread Kathy Brandt
They said they were prepared to offer me $110 +5% for Amazon gift card option
from my iPhone 5s. When I excepted the offer they sent me a nice box, in which
I sent the phone, after removing from find my iPhone. Since using voice over,
felt uncomfortable completely erasing the phone because of how I wouldn't know
for sure when I had powered it off.

So, just wondered if any of you had
experiences with gazelle? Had gotten a Nother phone from AT, which was
prepared to offer 65, so I had tried gazelle thinking I would do better.

VO and mail app ios 10

2016-10-01 Thread Harry Bell
Since installing ios ten on my iPhone 5s, when VoiceOver opens and then reads
out an email in the Mail app and I then delete it, a strange thing happens:
after I tap the trash can and confirm to delete the email, my screen moves
immediately to the next message (I do not have thread view turned on), but
VoiceOver insists on now reading out the subject line of the old message which
is being depleted. VoiceOver then immediately moved on to read out the body of
the next email without reading out the subject of the email. I'm sure it did
not behave like this in ios 9! Anyone else getting this? Thanks. Harry

RE: New Sams Club app

2016-10-01 Thread Jeremy Gilley
So, I found this to be very interesting.

What is preventing someone to scan a few items, and slip smaller items into
their cart with out scanning?

They don't have to see a casheer to verify all items have been paid for?

I don't think the person at the door looks at all the items in the cart and
what was paid for that closely do they?

This just feels like an open door to someone getting away without paying for
everything if they can get away with it.

Anyways, not bashing, just some thoughts that came to mind.

For Sams Club members there is a new app called Scanb to go. It will allow
you to scan your items as you place them in your cart. It will keep a
running total and when you are done you can pay with your phone and show the
receipt on your phone to the person at the door, thus by-passing the
cashier. It is accessible but unfortunately knowing where they place the bar
codes isn't.

Re: New Voice Dream Reader Update Released Today

2016-10-01 Thread Richard Turner

Note, Winston said nothing about iCloud in the What's New for version 4.0.5.
Here is the What's New for 4.0.5:
What's New

Version 4.0.5

Updated for iOS 10.

Minor bug fixes and enhancements.

Great news! iOS 10 comes with many free, high quality TTS voices, including
Siri voices. Go to iOS Settings, General, Accessibility, Speech, and Voices.
Select the language you want to use, and you'll see all the available voices.
The enhanced version of a voice is higher in audio quality, but note that it
uses a lot more storage. After download is complete, come back to Voice Dream
Reader. Go to the voice selection screen and tap on the Refresh button at the
bottom. Newly downloaded iOS voices will be available for use.
