Re: Some MP4 Videos Will Not Play on Apple TV 4th Generation

2016-10-06 Thread Kliphton Miller
You might want to consider the infuse app. There is a free version, and the
pro version costs 10 bucks. It is well worth it though. You can play any
format of video, MP4, MKV, AVI, DVIX, and more. And the best part? If you
have a NAS, or USB drive connected to your router, you don’t need your mac or
PC powered on to stream these videos. I love it, my 14TB library of movies and
TV shows stream with no issues. And yes, it is 100 percent accessible. Also,
it finds meta data for you so it can give you the year, jonarah, and
disscription of the movie or TV show. I give this app a 5 out of 5 stars and 2
thumbs up! Been using it since December and love it!

Some MP4 Videos Will Not Play on Apple TV 4th Generation

2016-10-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I'm not certain if this has been discussed, on list, but for whatever
reason, some of my mp4 videos won't play on my 4th gen Apple TV.

The funny thing is that they play just fine in both the Mac and Windows
versions of iTunes and, moreover, on all of my iOS devices.

After searching the web, I discovered that this is happening to a lot of
people. Some have suggested that the reason for the problem has to do with
the way in which the video was encoded/created. However, this does not
explain why some videos, created only moments before others, in my case at
least, play just fine while others do not.

In iTunes, there is an option to make Apple TV versions of videos. However,
when many of us attempt to do this, we receive the message that the videos
are already correctly formatted.

I'm going to paste in a URL to an apple discussion that highlights this
issue.

Fortunately for me, I don't have many mp4 videos that don't play but, still,
how annoying especially when all play just fine on other devices, including
Apple TV 3rd generation.

Re: adt alarm app

2016-10-06 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I have to respectfully disagree. It isn't as accessible as it used to be in
prior incarnations but it is still usable with VoiceOver yes. Nearly all on
screen elements are labeled and those whose labels are a bit more ambiguous
can still be figured out without causing any unintended consequences.
I should also note that if you have one of their pulse systems including
other things such as light controls or cameras and such their web portal
works a bit better with screen readers if accessed through FireFox as
opposed to IE11 on the Windows side of things.

The My ADT app for account management is accessible as well.
I hope that helps.

Double tap and hold on the attachment, and you should get the option to Open it
in another app. If it says just "open in" then double tap that and KNFB Reader
will be one of the choices.

Double tap that, then, when you are in KNFB reader it should say something like
PDF files ready to be recognized.

tap on that until you find the recognize file button and you should be good to
go.

That may not be the exact steps, but you'll figure it out. It works very well,
assuming the PDF images are of good enough quality.

Please Join Me in Making an iOS Feature Request That Will Greatly Benefit Low Vision Users

2016-10-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Please join me in requesting that the "Appearance" feature, currently
available in tvOS, be added to iOS.

In an effort to reduce redundancy, you will find more details on the
Appearance option in the request that I have already submitted to apple
which you will find below my signature.

Please feel free to use or modify it for your submission.

Thank you,

Mark

[BEGIN REQUEST]
FEATURE REQUEST: Please Add the Appearance Option, Now Available in tvOS,
to iOS

On the Apple TV 4th Generation, running the latest commercial release of
tvOS, from the General Settings area, there is an item labeled "Appearance."
As described on Apple TV, this feature allows one to select the color scheme
of menus choosing either light text on a dark background or dark text on a
light background.

This is a marvelous addition to the OS as it greatly reduces the number of
times low-vision users have to switch between the screen display using the
Invert Color option.

Please add this feature to iOS.
[END REQUEST]

Re: A Couple of Problems

2016-10-06 Thread Feliciano Godoy
It seems as if you did every troubleshooting procedure. I think it's time to
reset all settings. Doing this will ensure that all of the apps you use are
configured once again in terms of their notification, location services
settings etc.. Resetting all settings will not erase any content. I do have to
advise that if you reset all settings, you will have to configure your iPhone
settings in terms of Wi-Fi networks, Touch ID and enable Siri as it is off by
default. Voiceover will also be turned off. You will need assistance to turn
on voiceover if you don't have the sufficient vision to do so.

Have you tried to just go to notifications in settings and turning off
notifications and then back on?
And if that does not work, have you tried doing a hard restart by holding down
the power and home button for about 10 seconds? If it is an iPhone 7, you
would use the volume down button instead of the home button.

Hi, I suggest you go to your iPhone settings followed by notifications. There
you will see all of the apps that can push notifications to you. You want to
ensure that when you're go into to an app that notifications is on and that
the appropriate notification is selected whether you want a banner or
interrupting notification.

It's quite a dilemma. I just went in and checked all the settings again and

Hi Esther,

The fact you still have your old iPhone does not matter with respect to

speak. Maybe you can explain exactly which notifications you want and how you
want them. Do you want them to show up on the lockscreen and/or in notification

check in Voiceover settings for the "Automatically speak notifications" toggle

Hi, Alan!

Thanks for responding. Concerning the native mail app, the three-finger
placement on the unread message is great! However, as far as my notifications
are concerned, I do have all the apps on in the Notifications app and I'm still
not getting them. Maybe it's because I still have my iPhone 6+ and everything
is still on it. I'm not going to wipe it clean yet until I get my Music
straightened out.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Esther,

Apple changed the way the native mail app works in iOS 10. Even with preview
turned on in your settings, you'll need to touch the screen with 3 fingers to
initiate a Voiceover preview of the email with focus. If you're using message
threading and the thread with focus contains more than one message, you can
single finger swipe until you hear expand thread and double tap and the
messages in the thread will appear below it. Swiping right to each message in
an expanded thread will result in Voiceover speaking your preview number of
lines without the three finger touch previously mentioned.

I would think you should check Settings, Notifications to see what you have set
for each app.

I'm not sure about your music but I would start by going into iTunes with your
7 plus connected to your computer and making sure you have the music you want
transferred to your device appropriately synced within iTunes.

Rev Voice recorder is easy and free. I suggest that if you download this app,
navigate through the settings and make sure it is configured to your liking.
For example, you can change the quality of the recording I like to use the high

Subject: Simple voice recorder for the iPad?

Hi all,

I need to record an hour long class and I'm looking for an easy-to-use voice
recorder for my iPad. I don't need to edit the recording or send it anywhere,
so it doesn't need tons of features. In fact, the simpler the better.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: voiceover voices scratchy

2016-10-06 Thread Feliciano Godoy
The compact option is no longer available with that term. You must choose the
regular Samantha voice as that is what used to be the compact voice. If you
want to make sure that the Samantha voice is selected and not the enhanced
Samantha voice you must go to your iPhone settings, general, accessibility,
voiceover, speech, US English, Samantha and then choose Samantha opposed to
enhanced Samantha.

If I'm not mistaken, you were probably using the compact voice before.
Then when you did the update you got switched to the enhanced voice.
For whatever reason, it seems like the enhanced voices, especially Samantha,
sound to me like three pack a day smokers. Go into VO under accessibility and
switch back to the compact voice and all should be well.

Sorry, but that won't happen. Also, more and more of what Netflix

stagnantly staying at 4%, at least for the foreseeable future,
according to legislation in the US, and since most of Canada's

I have the app on my iPhone 5S with iOS 10 but have not yet set up the

app store, are there any such problems with setting up a Netflix
account? Would I be better off setting it up from my Windows laptop
and then logging in there or on my phone.

If I'm not mistaken there is a plan that allws use of two devices. Do
I have to specify what I am using when I set up the account, or do I
just log in from either the phone or computer, depending on which I
wish to use.

I want to get this first step done, and then we'll talk about how to

Re: voiceover voices scratchy

2016-10-06 Thread Kimber Gardner
If I'm not mistaken, you were probably using the compact voice before.
Then when you did the update you got switched to the enhanced voice.
For whatever reason, it seems like the enhanced voices, especially
Samantha, sound to me like three pack a day smokers. Go into VO under
accessibility and switch back to the compact voice and all should be
well.

Hi.

I’ve encountered VoiceOver stopping speaking. Doing a three finger double tap
doesn’t work for me. What does is to tell Siri to turn off VoiceOver, then
tell Siri to turn it back on.

Hope this helps.

Have a blessed day and don’t work too hard.

Simple voice recorder for the iPad?

Any suggestions?

Yes that's the weird part: I sincronize ITunes with my 4S, thus the

   Hi listers
I've never been able to understand the scenario of even though I've updated the
35 pending updates on my iPhone 4S through ITunes, when I go to the App Store's
Updates tab, why does it show the 35 pending updates?
Shouldn't there be more sincronization between ITunes and the App Store?

So? Be it for altruistic or more selfish reasons, the end result is that it's

Strange occurrence with the weather app

2016-10-06 Thread Mary Otten
As I usually do, I checked the weather with the stock weather app on my iPhone
when I got up this morning. Much to my surprise, it said I was in Salem Oregon.
That is about an hours drive away for me here in Eugene. I haven't been in or
near Salem Oregon in months. I haven't been there with this phone ever. I
checked with Siri just asking Siri where I am, and he said I wasn't Sherwood,
which I think is a suburb of Salem. I opened up Seeing Eye GPS, and it
correctly told me I was at my home address. I then again ask Siri where I was,
and he got my address right. But the weather app still thinks I am in Salem.
Has anybody ever had this happen?
Mary

Esther,

Maybe having more than one device is the cause of your notification issue.
Someone else will have to comment on that since I prefer to use just one iOS

I understand completely wanting to get your music straightened out before
engaging in a lot of trial and error steps.

Good luck with getting everything tweaked to your satisfaction.

RE: Even though updated through ITunes, iPhone still shows pending updates

2016-10-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gerardo,

If you update apps on your computer in iTunes it simply means the latest
version of the apps will be saved on your computer. You can connect your iPhone
and do a sync and it should then copy these apps to your phone hence all apps
on your phone will also be updated, but unless you do this updating apps in
iTunes on the PC does not magically update apps on your iPhone.

  Hi listers
I've never been able to understand the scenario of even though I've updated the
35 pending updates on my iPhone 4S through ITunes, when I go to the App Store's
Updates tab, why does it show the 35 pending updates?
Shouldn't there be more sincronization between ITunes and the App Store?

RE: A Couple of Problems

2016-10-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Esther,

The fact you still have your old iPhone does not matter with respect to
notifications on your new phone. If set up correctly Notifications should
speak. Maybe you can explain exactly which notifications you want and how you
want them. Do you want them to show up on the lockscreen and/or in notification
centre? Do you want Voiceover to automatically speak them? You may want to
check in Voiceover settings for the "Automatically speak notifications" toggle
and turn it on if it is off.

Hi, Alan!

Thanks for responding. Concerning the native mail app, the three-finger
placement on the unread message is great! However, as far as my notifications
are concerned, I do have all the apps on in the Notifications app and I'm still
not getting them. Maybe it's because I still have my iPhone 6+ and everything
is still on it. I'm not going to wipe it clean yet until I get my Music
straightened out.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

The app is Sound Hound, and it's completely accessible. But, now you
can ask Siri the name of the song that's playing, and she'll answer in
a matter of seconds -- usually with the right answer!

Apple integrated Shazam's song identification features into iOS 8. So, we have
not needed a separate app to do this since then.
If you google this, you will likely find several articles about it.

Re: reading PDF files with iPhone 6 and IOS10

2016-10-06 Thread Richard Turner
Double tap and hold on the attachment, and you should get the option to Open it
in another app. If it says just "open in" then double tap that and KNFB Reader
will be one of the choices.
Double tap that, then, when you are in KNFB reader it should say something like
PDF files ready to be recognized.
tap on that until you find the recognize file button and you should be good to
go.
That may not be the exact steps, but you'll figure it out. It works very well,
assuming the PDF images are of good enough quality.

sound Hound and Hound also can listen to live music, like at a bar or

demo of goggles app

2016-10-06 Thread Robin Christopherson
Tony

It’s called talking Goggles and probably uses the Google Goggles engine but has
the nice additional feature of automatically talking whatever it recognises. It
does text and objects. I’m not sure how much it is (probably 99 cents) and is
by, I think, Sparkling Apps.

Thanks, Robin

  Hi all

Using an Iphone 6 with ios 10.0.2. When I go to a contact to phone a friend
using an iphone, I now only see facetime video calling. When I choose the more
options, I still only see the video call option. Am I missing something here,
or what must I do to be able to make the facetime audio call now? In prior
versions of ios there was a button clearly marked that way, making it possible
to choose between video call and audio call for facetime. What might I be
overlooking here? Any help appreciated.
