it is disappointing, but better to hold on the release and not release a
loser. I am not really too interested in purchasing these. I don't like
earbuds. But I know lots of people are interested.

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Wow in iOS 10.0.2 I think it was at the time no such option was presented
during phone setup at all; nor did the lovely Apple rep who guided me
through my very rare spell of panic indicate that such could be used
anymore. To further confuse matters I thought there were two variations of
Apple's tfa and the older form made use of such a key but it was my
understanding that had you switched to the newer incarnation therein such
was gone. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct.
Either way it can be quite confusing and sadly it's why many just don't
bother with it. I'll probably turn it on as soon as my second iDevice
arrives hopefully next week.

Hi,
the only time I encountered an issue with this was recently when upgrading
from one iPhone to another the system texted the code to my number but since
my phone wasn't fully up and running and operational I couldn’t get it to
sign into iCloud properly. So I had to set up phone as new, skipping iCloud
sign in go to apple ID and turn off TFA and then restore phone from cloud
after the fact. their system used to have a recovery key you could use for
times when you're off line but they've taken that away so much as it pains
me for the moment I have it turned off. If one has more than one Apple
device you shouldn't necessarily encounter this but for me it made for some
heart racy kind of moments so for now it's off but usually it's my practice
to use it wherever and whenever I can but I admit sometimes it causes the
user more stress than those it's trying to deter from evil doing.

When I updated my iPad mini two recently, I went ahead and enabled two
factor authentication. Subsequently, Apple sent me a notification that
included a link, which, if I activated, will let me undo the changes I
made. This link will go away as of sometime next week. Therefore, I am
interested in the details of the problems that arise with two factor
authentication. I gave them my mobile phone number where they could
send the six digit code that will be needed when and if I get a new
Apple device where I log in with my Apple ID. I certainly don't want
some unsolvable problem happening down the road. So what are the
issues? Is it something that happens when you're trying to enable two
factor authentication? In that case, mine is already done, so no
problem. If it is a problem that happens when you're actually trying
to start using a new device, that's another matter, and would make me
consider revoking my two factor authentication.

Hi,

This evening my IPhone 6, running the previous IOS10, developed a problem.
When I plug the phone into an external speaker using the headphone jack I get
no sound. I have tried with two different cables and three different speakers
and get no sound. The jack still works with earbuds.

This issue arose as I was listening to the World Series. The game was playing
and then stopped. When I unplugged from the external speaker I had no problem
with the IPhone 6 speaker.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Apple Delays AirPods, October Launch No Longer Happening
MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Juli Clover

When Apple debuted its AirPods in September, the company said the wireless
earbuds would launch in late October. Now that it's late October, people have
been wondering if a release is imminent, but as it turns out, the AirPods are
delayed.

Apple today told TechCrunch that it needs "a little more time" before the
AirPods are ready for a public release, without specifying the reason behind
the delay.

[airpods-2]
"The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don't believe in
shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before
AirPods are ready for our customers," an Apple spokesperson said to TechCrunch.
Apple did not provide TechCrunch with updated launch information, so it is no
longer clear when the AirPods will be available for purchase.

AirPods are Apple's premium headphone solution for the iPhone
7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, which do
not include a headphone jack. AirPods, powered by Bluetooth and an
Apple-designed W1 chip, are entirely wireless with no cords between them.

They include advanced features like infrared sensors to detect when they're in
the ear, beam forming microphones to reduce external noise, and accelerometers
to respond to touch gestures.

AirPods have been in the hands of reviewers since
September
and have garnered largely positive reviews for the fit, the features, the
simple setup, and the easy recharging.

Hi Gordan,

Well done, yes, there is a spelling mistake or two and a couple of places where

that you are not a native english speaker and I think all in all your message
describes the problem very well and in great detail and Apple Accessibility

Hi!

Due to recent bug experienced in Safari browser which was confirmed by some
members here I've composed a message for Apple Accessibility.

I urge everyone on this list to copy the message bellow as new mail and send it
to Apple. Here it goes:

Address:

accessibil...@apple.com

Subject:

Voice Over Bug In Edit Fields On Web Pages

Beginning of message:

Hello!

Since iOS 10.1 upgrade Voice Over users are experiencing accessibility issues
while navigating through text entered in edit fields on web pages. It seems
Voice Over can't read or move by characters from the beginning of text forward
and it stucks after second character.

When going backwards from the end of the text everything seem to work
correctly. It is also confirmed this issue occures in Safari for iOS as well as
Firefox and Chrome browsers.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

1. With Voice Over on open any web page with the edit field;

2. Enter the phrase "today is a beautiful day" in the field;

3. Double tap to get to the beginning of the text entered;

4. Switch the Rotor to the Characters option;

5. Try to flick down for reading forward character by character;

In some cases, depending on web page you're currently browsing you won't hear
anything while in other cases You won't get further than first twocharacters
typed. For example, search field on www.amazon.com is
completely silent while search field on
www.bookshare.org reads first two characters.

This is a very serious issue for Voice Over users. Browsing the web is
everybodys daily routine including blind or partially sighted users and fixing
this in the next iOS 10 update is crucial for Voice Over users to be able to
use their iDevices completely.

Thanks and take care!

End of message.

it can't be done by a totally blind person using touch, but if a sighted person
is a little bit clever with things like that they'll be at an advantage. I was
fully sighted at one point and while my hand injuries may also have something
to do with it, I know for sure that there things that are super-easy for a
sighted person which are a bloody pain in the neck for a blind person.

Hello,

I’ve fitted them myself. I have fitted one to iPad Pro 9.7, 6S Plus and a 7. I
think using touch is better than attempting to align by sight. It’s about
confidence.

That is actually not Uber's official policy. Some drivers want you to do
that so they can gain another booking fee, most drivers however will
wait for you if you ask, without you having to request another trip. The
latter option was endorsed by an Uber customer service agent.

IPhone 6 headphone jack problem

2016-10-26 Thread rhs

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sarai D. Bucciarelli www.linkedin.com/in/SaraiDBucciarelli

Hi guys:
Just thought I’d give an update. Remember when I asked how to handle Uber and
multiple errands? Well tonight, I had an emergency, and got to put that in to
play. Here is how it works, according to my driver. If you set a destination,
and want to make a bunch of stops between your pickup location and the end
destination, that is fine. You can keep the trip going. Now, where it gets
tricky is if you want him to wait at your end point, and then resume the trip
to another place, he ends the trip, and you immediately request another one
while with him, and set a second end destination. He can then pick up the trip
and you can keep him. If you do not do this, then he has to pickup the next
Uber request. He cannot deny it, and wait for you. So, I hope this helps.

edit field problem in 10.1

2016-10-26 Thread Donald L. Roberts
I upgraded my iPhone 6 from IOS 10.0 to 10.1 and got the message that
the software installation was successful. However, when asked to enter
my password, the letters were not present. This was also true when I
was asked for a pass code. I selected the 4 digit pass code, but no
keyboard was present. Also, although I was told that quick nav was off,
quick nav came on immediately when I moved my finger around the
keyboard. Just so there is no misunderstanding, I am talking about the
keyboard on the phone, not a blue tooth keyboard.

I subsequently opened messages with the intent of creating and sending a
text message. The result was the same. This was also true when I opened
the uber app and attempted to enter a destination.

I then rebooted the iPhone 6, but the problem was still present. I have
never encountered such a problem previously. Suggestions please!

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Helga Schreiber
Hi all! How are you all? This is a great question! So I activated two-factor
authentication as well! I had it for two weeks. So this is the issue that I
encounter. So when I install the IOS 10.1 update, adn ehn I got to icloud adn
to set it up, it ask me for my password, and then it gave me a message saying
waiting for approval, yu need to loggign to icloud and approve this iPhone 6S.
Thsi was giving me a lot of stress since I logging to iCloud on my Mac, and
other ios devices, but it did not do anything! It is good but it gives em more
problems than helping. Me. So the next day, I turn off two-factor
authentication guys! I wasn't able approve my iPhone, and I need icloud since.
I will get aniPhone 7 this week. I really don't know why I could not approve my
iPhone. So I doubletap on aprove later. So that means my icloud settings was
not complete and so on. So I end up turning off two-factor authentication. Do
you hve any idea wy I could not approve it? I did not know where to go to
approve it. With this many peopel did not help me ata ll! I look forward in
hearing from you soon. Thanks and God bless!

Mary,

I hear you and I'm a bit worried about the two-factor authentication as well. I
also got put on it after upgrading to iOS 10.1 if I understood the Apple email
I received correctly. It had a link as you mentioned to turn it off but when I
clicked on it, I got some message about having to change my password so I left
it alone. I normally handle 2-factor authentication using a text to receive an
authorization code but if I'm setting up a new iPhone, I'm scratching my head
as to how this is going to work. Hopefully, it will offer an email option.

I'm not worried about getting the code and entering it, although I don't have
any vision. When I am worried about our glitches such that the code doesn't
come or whatever, essentially making your two factor authentication unusable
and locking you out on your new device. There have been some talk about some
major problems, not specified, unless I didn't see the follow up message, with
this system. So I was wondering what they were.
 That would be a problem.

Hi!

Due to recent bug experienced in Safari browser which was confirmed by some
members here I've composed a message for Apple Accessibility.

I urge everyone on this list to copy the message bellow as new mail and send it
to Apple. Here it goes:

1. With Voice Over on open any web page with the edit field;

2. Enter the phrase "today is a beautiful day" in the field;

3. Double tap to get to the beginning of the text entered;

4. Switch the Rotor to the Characters option;

5. Try to flick down for reading forward character by character;

In some cases, depending on web page you're currently browsing you won't hear
anything while in other cases You won't get further than first twocharacters
typed. For example, search field on www.amazon.com is
completely silent while search field on www.bookshare.org
  reads first two characters.

This is a very serious issue for Voice Over users. Browsing the web is
everybodys daily routine including blind or partially sighted users and fixing
this in the next iOS 10 update is crucial for Voice Over users to be able to
use their iDevices completely.

Thanks and take care!

End of message.

Voice Over Bug In Edit Fields On Web Pages
Beginning of message:
Hello!
Since iOS 10.1 upgrade Voice Over users are experiencing
accessibility issues while navigating through text entered in edit
fields on web pages. It seems Voice Over can't read or move by
characters from the beginning of text forward and it stucks after
  second character.
When going backwards from the end of the text everything seem to
work correctly. It is also confirmed this issue occures in Safari
for iOS as well as Firefox and Chrome browsers.

Steps to reproduce the bug:
1. With Voice Over on open any web page with the edit field;

2. Enter the phrase "today is a beautiful day" in the field;
3. Double tap to get to the beginning of the text entered;
4. Switch the Rotor to the Characters option;
5. Try to flick down for reading forward character by character;
In some cases, depending on web page you're currently browsing
you won't hear anything while in other cases You won't get further
than first twocharacters typed. For example, search field on
www.amazon.com is completely silent while search field on
  www.bookshare.org reads first two characters.

This is a very serious issue for Voice Over users. Browsing the
web is everybodys daily routine including blind or partially
sighted users and fixing this in the next iOS 10 update is crucial
for Voice Over users to be able to use their iDevices completely.
Thanks and take care!
End of message.

There is no reason to pay 30 or $35 for a glass screen protector.

Well, I do have an iPad, so I'm thinking that the message would come through on
the iPad even if I was setting up an iPhone. Also, as somebody else noted, I
tend not to shut off my old phone until the new one is actually set up. So I
guess the message would come across on the old phone. As long as there isn't a
problem with receipt of the messages, I guess I'll be OK.

RE: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Alan Lemly
I feel more informed about two-factor authentication after reading the Apple
Support article found here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915

I'll post the full text of the article after my signature. To avoid an issue
with setting up a new iPhone, I think I'll hold onto my old iPhone to use it as
the authorized device until the new one is set up. I also have a home phone
number I can provide as a fallback.

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID

Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security for your Apple ID
designed to ensure that you're the only person who can access your account,
even if someone knows your password.

How it works

With two-factor authentication, your account can only be accessed on devices
you trust, like your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. When you want to sign in to a new
device for the first time, you'll need to provide two pieces of
information—your password and the six-digit verification code that's
automatically displayed on your trusted devices. By entering the code, you're
verifying that you trust the new device. For example, if you have an iPhone and
are signing into your account for the first time on a newly purchased Mac,
you'll be prompted to enter your password and the verification code that's
automatically displayed on your iPhone.

Because your password alone is no longer enough to access your account,
two-factor authentication dramatically improves the security of your Apple ID
and all the personal information you store with Apple.

Once signed in, you won’t be asked for a verification code on that device again
unless you sign out completely, erase the device, or need to change your
password for security reasons. When you sign in on the web, you can choose to
trust your browser, so you won’t be asked for a verification code the next time
you sign in from that computer.

Trusted devices

A trusted device is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with iOS 9 and later, or Mac
with OS X El Capitan and later that you've already signed in to using
two-factor authentication. It’s a device we know is yours and that can be used
to verify your identity by displaying a verification code from Apple when you
sign in on a different device or browser.

Trusted phone numbers

A trusted phone number is a number that can be used to receive verification
codes by text or phone call. You must verify at least one trusted phone number
to enroll in two-factor authentication. You should also consider verifying
other phone numbers you can access, such as a home phone, or a number used by a
family member or close friend. You can use these numbers if you temporarily
can't access your own devices.

Verification codes

A verification code is a temporary code sent to your trusted device or phone
number when you sign in to a new device or browser with your Apple ID. You can
also get a verification code from Settings on your trusted device
 .

A verification code is different from the device passcode
you enter to unlock your iPhone, iPad,
or iPod touch.

Description:

Turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID

Two-factor authentication is currently available to iCloud users with at least
one device that's using iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan or later. Learn more
 .

You can follow the steps below to turn on two-factor authentication.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later:

1. Go to Settings > iCloud > tap your Apple ID.
2. Tap Password & Security.
3. Tap Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.

On your Mac with OS X El Capitan or later:

1. Go to Apple () menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details.
2. Click Security.
3. Click Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.

Description:

What to remember when you use two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication significantly improves the security of your Apple ID.
After you turn it on, signing into your account will require both your password
and access to your trusted devices or trusted phone number. To keep your
account as secure as possible and help ensure you never lose access, there are
a few simple guidelines you should follow:

* Remember your Apple ID password.
* Use a device passcode on all your devices.
* Keep your trusted phone number(s) up to date.
* Keep your trusted devices physically secure.

Description:

Manage your account

You can manage your trusted phone numbers, trusted devices, and other account
information from your Apple ID account page .

Keep your trusted phone numbers up to date

To use two-factor authentication, you need at least one trusted phone number on
file where you can receive verification codes. You can update your trusted
phone numbers when you follow these steps:

1. Go to your Apple ID account page.

I’ve fitted them myself. I have fitted one to iPad Pro 9.7, 6S Plus and a 7. I

Mary,

I hear you and I'm a bit worried about the two-factor authentication as well. I
also got put on it after upgrading to iOS 10.1 if I understood the Apple email
I received correctly. It had a link as you mentioned to turn it off but when I

RE: issue labelling buttons in an app

2016-10-26 Thread R Van Lant
Update on this. Now I'm also seeing that the library menu still seems to be
somehow overlaying over the player after I've clicked on the book I want and
can see that the player has loaded. That may be playing into my labelling
issue. If I hit the large arrow for play, the book starts playing, but if I
move my finger up the screen it's reading the names of the other books in my
library,

Subject: issue labelling buttons in an app

Hi,
I just watched a little video on YouTube to refresh my memory on labeling
unlabeled buttons, and I'm still not getting it to work. I double tap and hold
on the button and I heard three ascending tone, not the sound on the video. I
do not get the edit box. This is in the Christian Audio app, which has a built
in audio book player. Is it possible that the buttons cannot be labelled?
I'll give feedback to the company, but would love a short term solution, as the
play, rewind, fast forward buttons are not labeled.

Apple Delays AirPods, October Launch No Longer Happening

2016-10-26 Thread Mary Otten
Apple Delays AirPods, October Launch No Longer Happening
MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Juli Clover

When Apple debuted its AirPods in September, the company said the wireless
earbuds would launch in late October. Now that it's late October, people have
been wondering if a release is imminent, but as it turns out, the AirPods are
delayed.

Apple today told TechCrunch that it needs "a little more time" before the
AirPods are ready for a public release, without specifying the reason behind
the delay.

AirPods are Apple's premium headphone solution for the iPhone 7 and the iPhone
7 Plus, which do not include a headphone jack. AirPods, powered by Bluetooth
and an Apple-designed W1 chip, are entirely wireless with no cords between
them.

They include advanced features like infrared sensors to detect when they're in
the ear, beam forming microphones to reduce external noise, and accelerometers
to respond to touch gestures.

AirPods have been in the hands of reviewers since September and have garnered
largely positive reviews for the fit, the features, the simple setup, and the
easy recharging.

RE: Opinions about glass screen protectors and affect on 3D touch

Can these glass screen protectors be applied by the blind, or is sighted

Thanks, Keith

I have to agree with Mary. A glass screen protector for $7.99 seems a wise
insurance for that one time your iPhone is dropped and takes a hit on its
screen. Insurance policies and AppleCare+ can be a very good investment too
depending on the chance damage might be incurred on the insured item. I realize
the iPhone screen is manufactured to be tough but if I can add another layer of
toughness for a small cash outlay without affecting the performance of my
device, I'm all for it.

I have never had an issue with my screen either. But there is a first time for
everything, and these are not very expensive. My husband has had two scream
protectors crack. If it weren't for the fact that he had the screen protector,
the screen would've cracked. He's not using an iPhone, and he's obviously
harder on his phones than I am. But there is a first time for everything. And
given the price, I couldn't disagree with you more about the advisability of
purchasing a screen protector.

Rescue email with Apple

2016-10-26 Thread Donna
Hi All

Is there a way to change the rescue e-mail address associated with my Apple
account? The rescue e-mail address that is on file is no longer an active
e-mail account. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Vicky Collins

Hi Mary and All,

even if you don't choose to use that link, you are still able to
log into your Apple account page and turn off the two factor
authentication.

I've not exactly had a problem setting up a new device with it
turned on, but I have had to tell it to send me a text message
with the six digit code, rather than use the code just sent to
the phone number. I haven't yet, though, set up a brand new
device with iOS 10. For some unknown reason, even when logging
into some of Apple support pages with my current device,
receiving the code via text message works better than getting it
via an alert on the phone. Sometimes, even if I get the code
with the alert, and then double check that I've entered it
correctly, I still get an error and have to use the text message
way.

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
the only time I encountered an issue with this was recently when upgrading
from one iPhone to another the system texted the code to my number but since
my phone wasn't fully up and running and operational I couldn’t get it to
sign into iCloud properly.

 Hi to all!

Someone just told me about the Safari bug in recent iOS 10.1
version. I checked it out and here's what I found. Please, try to
reproduce it by yourselves and if it is consistent amongst you I
believe we should report to Apple Accessibility. I apologise if this
was discussed in some recent iOS 10.1 threads, I followed it at some
 point but not thoroughly.
So, I got the hint edit fields on web pages can not be navigated by
character or word. I checked it out to see for myself and found this
 situation.

If you load some web page with he edit field, type some text, e.g.
"apple" and try to navigate behaviour is as follows:

 1. Double tap to get to the beginning of the text;

 2. Switch the rotor to characters;

 3. Try to flick down as you would navigate from left to right
 (beginning to end);

 4. You'll hear something like: Insertion point is between A and P at
 position 2;

 5. If you flick up (backwards) you'll hear: Insertion point is at
beginning of text. The problem is you can't flick further than the
position 2, Voice Over remains silent and insertion point doesn't
move no matter how you flick; 6. Double tap again to get to the end
 of the text;

 7. If you flick up (from end to beginning) you'll hear: Insertion
point is between L and E at position 4. Flick up again and you'll hear:
Insertion point is between P and E at position 3.

Flicking from end to beginning seems to work fine but flicking from
beginning to end hangs between first to characters of the entered text.

I believe Apple introduces some new standard for navigating editable
text and it seems to me they didn't properly work it out. It has a
bug when trying to navigate from left

This same problem is exhibited when trying to do web searches in Firefox or the
Chrome browser. Also, from what I can tell, even when searching in the App
store, this same inability to review the text that is typed in the search field
is there as well.

RE: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

I use "Authy" which is an app that provides codes for two-factor
authentication. You have to set up the accounts which support this and then
whenever you need a code you just open the app, select the accunt you need a
code for and it displays a 6-digit code. However, you do have to be somewhat
quick since the code is only there for 30 seconds, then it changes and the next
code is displayed for 30 seconds etc. Of course you still have the option to
get a code texted to you even if you set your primary method to use an app and
also not all services support these apps. Authy is just one option, Google
Authenticator is another and I think Microsoft also has one. Microsoft Id's
support this if you enable two-factor authentication and so does Google and
Dropbox. Apple of course uses it's own method and Roboform, the password
manager I use, sends codes by email to the registered email address.

RE: Opinions about glass screen protectors and affect on 3D touch

2016-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is definitely personal preference, you can say there is no use for something
in any situation until something happens. Apart from that screen protectors may
not necessarily prevet the screen from cracking, but if you plan to resell your
phone and get maximum Dollars for it then consistently using a screen protector
and good case will definitely prevent the small little scratches and scuffs
which may take away from the resale value. If you do protect your phone, are
careful with it and keep the original box you can in good conscience advertise
it as a phone that is "as new" or "in mint condition" and you probably do get a
better price for it.
Having said all this, I personally don't use a screen protector, either. I
should maybe try the glass ones since mostly what I don't like about the
plastic ones is the fact that my screen is not as slick as when it's just glass.

Sieghard

I have never had an issue with my screen either. But there is a first time for
everything, and these are not very expensive. My husband has had two scream
protectors crack. If it weren't for the fact that he had the screen protector,
the screen would've cracked. He's not using an iPhone, and he's obviously
harder on his phones than I am. But there is a first time for everything. And
given the price, I couldn't disagree with you more about the advisability of
purchasing a screen protector.

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Mary Otten
I'm not worried about getting the code and entering it, although I don't have
any vision. When I am worried about our glitches such that the code doesn't
come or whatever, essentially making your two factor authentication unusable
and locking you out on your new device. There have been some talk about some
major problems, not specified, unless I didn't see the follow up message, with
this system. So I was wondering what they were.
 That would be a problem.

This same problem is exhibited when trying to do web searches in
Firefox or the Chrome browser. Also, from what I can tell, even when
searching in the App store, this same inability to review the text
that is typed in the search field is there as well.

RE: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-26 Thread Rose Combs
Microsoft and I have been at odds because they send me a code to change
password and by the time I read it, try to get back to where it is needed, mix
up or forget it go back again, it expires! For my part, if I can get away
without it I will but then, my phone is usually nearby, in my purse or pocket,
on my desk or nightstand and I live alone. I am very protective of it, I don't
key the 6-digit or even the 4-digit code in place because it is annoying to
have to keep putting it in every time I need to use the phone or applications
on the phone.

As I said it hardly leaves my side unless I am home alone doors locked, and
know no one else is here. Only thing is, often take it out of a pocket while
in the bathroom so it does not fall where it should not be, leave it on the
vanity then have to call it or have someone call it so I can find it, usually
same place every time so now I look there first!
I don't recommend this for everyone, in fact I don't recommend it for most
people!

Hi Mary

Especially for Microsoft and Windows users besides their apple devices, be
aware that programs like windows live mail do apparently not give access
anymore to icloud mail accounts while they require 2steps verificcation and
this is the case with my wlm.

When I updated my iPad mini two recently, I went ahead and enabled two
factor authentication. Subsequently, Apple sent me a notification that
included a link, which, if I activated, will let me undo the changes I made.
This link will go away as of sometime next week. Therefore, I am interested
in the details of the problems that arise with two factor authentication. I
gave them my mobile phone number where they could send the six digit code
that will be needed when and if I get a new Apple device where I log in with
my Apple ID. I certainly don't want some unsolvable problem happening down
the road. So what are the issues? Is it something that happens when you're
trying to enable two factor authentication? In that case, mine is already
done, so no problem. If it is a problem that happens when you're actually
trying to start using a new device, that's another matter, and would make me
consider revoking my two factor authentication.

I think any time you use a device and need to enter your password you get a

Re: Opinions about glass screen protectors and affect on 3D touch

2016-10-26 Thread Mary Otten
I have never had an issue with my screen either. But there is a first time for
everything, and these are not very expensive. My husband has had two scream
protectors crack. If it weren't for the fact that he had the screen protector,
the screen would've cracked. He's not using an iPhone, and he's obviously
harder on his phones than I am. But there is a first time for everything. And
given the price, I couldn't disagree with you more about the advisability of
purchasing a screen protector.

Subject: Two factor authentication issues?

Re: Alexxa App

2016-10-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't see Google listed on his LinkedIn profile, so I don't know if he
works for Google or ever has. I tend to just take people's posts at face
value, so it usually isn't too important to me if they're employees of a
particular company or not.

This is not so great news as I just purchased an echo dot, but all this aside
what do you all use your echo for? Is the skills accessible either on ie web or

They should be here tomorrow, so I guess I'll be either having success or

I've been complaining to Amazon for several months (being an original Echo

Hey all,

I am a long time owner of the Amazon Echo and was very excited to have my new
Dot arrive today. Unfortunately the accessibility of the Alexa app has gone
backwards. I could not set up my Dot in the app, as I could not get the connect
to wifi part to work and VO crashed multiple times when trying to do so. I also
deleted the Alexxa app and reinstalled it thinking there might have been a bug
on my end. No luck. Do not even bother trying to set up the Dot on the mac as
all wifi networks are read as one continuous list and you can't select your
wifi network. What finally worked setting the Dot up was doing it in Chrome on
the mac as the Amazon set up page read all wifi networks as it should be
different items. Anyway just wanted to get this out there as I spent hours
trying to get the Dot up and running. It seems to be connected and working fine
now just waiting it to reboot as I changed the wake word and thought this might
be helpful to someone.

Re: Alexxa App

2016-10-26 Thread Brian Fischler
Larry Jonathan might say that in his book, but things have gone backwards with
the app as far as being able to use all features on the iPhone. It is
disappointing as Amazon seemed to be headed in the right direction earlier this
year, but things seem to be going backwards the past few updates.

Re: Attention: Safari Bug in iOS 10.1 Detected!

2016-10-26 Thread Tom Lange
Hi
Using an iPhone 7 paired with a Braille Sense U2, I can definitely confirm the
Safari bug, though I found the same behavior occurred no matter where I went. I
tried search fields at amazon.com, bookshare.org and at dogpile.com. In all
cases, I'd type something in the search fields and set the rotor to characters.
When moving backwards along the search strings that I'd entered, VoiceOver
would not speak even though I could look at the Braille display and feel the
cursor moving backward. When I reached the beginning of the search field and
attempted to move forward by character, the cursor would not move on the
Braille display, nor would VoiceOver say anything. This is a nasty little bug
that needs to be reported to Apple Accessibility right away. In fact, I'm going
to carbon-copy Apple Accessibility on this message, and I would urge anyone
responding to this thread with bug details to do likewise. Have a good day,
everybody.

Re: Attention: Safari Bug in iOS 10.1 Detected!

2016-10-26 Thread Donna
Hi

I can confirm the Safari bug. I want to add that search fields respond
differently on different websites. I testing on amazon.com & when flicking
through my search term, with the rotor set to characters, the cursor didn't
appear to move. When flicking I heard only the word I had typed in the search
field. When testing on hearthsong.com, no letters or words were spoken when
flicking through the word that I had entered into the search field. When
testing on beyondplay.com, when the cursor is at the end of the word I heard
each letter & the position of the cursor when flicking backwards through the
word entered into the search field. When flicking forward through the word
voiceover doesn't read anything past the second & it seems that the cursor
doesn't advance past the second letter when continuing to flick. This was
tested using an iPhone 6 with the latest update IOS 10.1 with voiceover turned
on.

Attention: Safari Bug in iOS 10.1 Detected!

2016-10-26 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi to all!
Someone just told me about the Safari bug in recent iOS 10.1
version. I checked it out and here's what I found. Please, try to
reproduce it by yourselves and if it is consistent amongst you I
believe we should report to Apple Accessibility. I apologise if
this was discussed in some recent iOS 10.1 threads, I followed it
at some point but not thoroughly.

So, I got the hint edit fields on web pages can not be navigated
by character or word. I checked it out to see for myself and found
  this situation.
If you load some web page with he edit field, type some text,
e.g. "apple" and try to navigate behaviour is as follows:
1. Double tap to get to the beginning of the text;
2. Switch the rotor to characters;
3. Try to flick down as you would navigate from left to right
  (beginning to end);
4. You'll hear something like: Insertion point is between A and P
  at position 2;
5. If you flick up (backwards) you'll hear: Insertion point is at
beginning of text. The problem is you can't flick further than the
position 2, Voice Over remains silent and insertion point doesn't
  move no matter how you flick;

6. Double tap again to get to the end of the text;
7. If you flick up (from end to beginning) you'll hear: Insertion
point is between L and E at position 4. Flick up again and you'll
hear: Insertion point is between P and E at position 3.
Flicking from end to beginning seems to work fine but flicking
from beginning to end hangs between first to characters of the
  entered text.
I believe Apple introduces some new standard for navigating
editable text and it seems to me they didn't properly work it out.
It has a bug when trying to navigate from left to right and this
should be fixed as soon as possible, edit fields on web pages are
important. I didn't have the time to investigate it thoroughly but
from the info I got it seems it happens only in Safari.
I apologise if I wrote some terms incorectly, I don't use iPhone
in English and I hope you'll get the point. Please report back if
this is happening to you too. If it does I hope we can put some
thoughts together and alert Apple about this.
Thanks and take care!
