Re: Cleaning Up GMail

2018-10-27 Thread Yohandy Rodriguez
using a pc and a program like Thunderbird is probably the best way as
you can filter mail by keywords and such and delete them all at once.

All right then, here goes. I’ve had a Gmail account since 2007 and, like many
people out there, I’m on a number of moderate to high traffic e-mail lists.
There’s not enough time in the day to manage all of it so, as a consequence, my
inbox, along with lots of other folders, has accumulated thousands upon
thousands of unread messages. This is painfully or occasionally laughably
evident every time I see the mail icon on my iPhone’s home screen. It says I
currently have 93,890 unread messages, and I don’t even want to think about all
of the read messages that have accumulated over the past twelve years. When I
log on to the Gmail web page it says that 54% of my allocated storage has been
used. So I need to find a screen reader-friendly way of doing a slash-and-burn
number on my inbox and all other folders/labels. I couldn’t figure out a way to
do this using the native app on my phone or the Inbox app either, nor could I
figure out how to do it at www.gmail.com using Safari or using JAWS or NVDA on
my laptop. I have correspondence from friends and family that goes back a few
years that I want to keep. I figure everything else prior to, say June of this
year can get trashed. So, anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Location location location on the new iPhone

2018-10-27 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
Both the keyboard switching and dictation switching issues have been solved
with a little bit of sighted assistance. It turns out that the switches are
located on the very bottom left and very bottom right of the phone when you’re
in an edit field where they would normally pop up. The dictate button is in the
very bottom right, where you would normally never look on an iPhone with the
home button, because it’s down below where anything useful is. And the toggling
of keyboards switch is similarly located on the left down below where the
Moore numbers or more symbols switches are found. Way in the corner on the
bottom. So the new form factor of the phone determines where these things are.

 Hello everyone,

How do I go about clearing out email addresses in my phone?
These are not in my contacts. They show up when I start to type an address in

Some of these addresses are no longer any good calling and I would like to get
rid of them. If someone could tell me how to do this I would really appreciate
it.

Thank you!

Re: Facebook question

2018-10-27 Thread Donna
Hi

When receiving posts from groups or comments by email from Facebook, only
getting part of the post from a group or comment , then being prompted to go to
Facebook to read the entire post in a group or comment has been this way since
2009, when I started using Facebook. This is the reason I gave up using email
to be notified of a post in a group or a comment on a post. It is less time
consuming to just use the Facebook app or the mobile Facebook website to check
for post in groups or comments on a post, by swiping through Notifications on
Facebook.

Thanks Mary, I also hope that the apple store techs would solve this puzzle or
give me a new phone and let me go.

Yes Mary, I use the Arabic keyboard. I will let you know tomorrow evening how
the transfer goes.

Cris, I don't know if this will help, but this is what we did with our ipad
when we didn't have anyone hear to get the ipad going. When we got our ipad
about a year ago I tripple tapped the home button on the ipad and it began
talking. I don't know if this will work with the phone, and if nothing else as
worked yet, maybe you could give it a try. Another thought, you might want to
install itunes on your computer, if you don't already have it installed, hook
your phone up to your computer and see what you could do to get your phone

Hi folks,
I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.
First I tried the quick start as suggested by apple by putting it next to my
old phone, , and it did not work.
I then tried to set it up using the iTunes to no avail.
Now I am stuck. I can’t even get it to go into recovery mode to wipe it clean.
What do you suggest I do?
When I do the command for recovery mode, I get a message on iTunes telling me
that iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone until I enter a passcode. Try again
or cancel.
I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my phone
is defective or is there something wrong with the new iPhone compatibility with
the iTunes?
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Regards,

Cris

RE: Finger print no longer working...

2018-10-27 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Thanks for all the advice. I finally called apple care and got some help.
They suggested I try another finger, so I tried the only one I hadn’t tried
before. Wouldn’t you know, it worked. It was the index finger of my right
hand which is my Braille reading finger, so I assumed it wouldn’t work because
there might be a callous. It worked. The support person said that if that
didn’t work we could re-set the phone. I’m glad I didn’t have to do that. All
is well.

Guess it’s like taking a sick child to the doctor only to find out the
youngster has suddenly gotten well! SMILE!

I have been having this problem with my SE now for months. One thing to check
is that we found my screen protector had shifted and was in the way. So, we
took care of that, and the lady at the phone store helped me redo my finger
print which my sister said upon looking was more thorough than what I was
getting doing it myself. I, too have redone this thing time and time again and
hate having to put the passcode in every time or at least 95% of the time. I
don’t know whether it is the phone or just what and am not sure what I am going
to do about it since I do not have an Apple Store close by. If it weren’t for
some of the apps I have, I would switch to somme other type of phone. I am
getting really sick of this stuff not working.

Is it not working at all, i.e. does it not even let you set it up? If so you
may have to take the phone to an Apple Store and get them to check out the

Hi all. My finger print is no longer working. I’ve re-set it several times,
turned the phone off and on and done the more complete re-set with the volume
down and home button. Nothing seems to work. I’ve also wiped the screen and
home button with a damp paper towel and also with a glasses polishing cloth.
Any other suggestions? It’s a pain to enter my pass code each time I need to
unlock the phone. Yes, I know I’m whining there a little. SMILEY. Thanks for
any thoughts.

I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my phone

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Re: Unable to do anything with my iPhone. I am not sure what the problem is!

2018-10-27 Thread Arlene
Cris, I don't know if this will help, but this is what we did with our ipad
when we didn't have anyone hear to get the ipad going. When we got our ipad
about a year ago I tripple tapped the home button on the ipad and it began
talking. I don't know if this will work with the phone, and if nothing else as
worked yet, maybe you could give it a try. Another thought, you might want to
install itunes on your computer, if you don't already have it installed, hook
your phone up to your computer and see what you could do to get your phone
going. You probably have a solution by now with listers that have responded to
you, but I hope you could find a solution soon, and let us know how you like
your new phone.

  Hi folks,

I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.

First I tried the quick start as suggested by apple by putting it next to my
old phone, , and it did not work.

I then tried to set it up using the iTunes to no avail.

Now I am stuck. I can’t even get it to go into recovery mode to wipe it
clean.

What do you suggest I do?

When I do the command for recovery mode, I get a message on iTunes telling me
that iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone until I enter a passcode. Try again
or cancel.

I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my
phone is defective or is there something wrong with the new iPhone
compatibility with the iTunes?

  Any ideas will be appreciated.

When I did this Quickstart, I didn’t pointed the camera at the new phone. I
just had it next to it. then was activated. At one point, in the setup they do
say to use your camera of the old phone and to point it at the new phone.

So far as I could tell, the set up process never started. I was offered a
screen that had the instructions on how to do the quick start up or an offer to
do it manually if you wanted. Everything you could double tap on it except the
manual one did nothing. So I did the manual thing and use an iCloud back up.
That work.

My problem is the other way around. My old phone has iOS 12.01. My guess is
that the new one doesn’t. And of course there won’t be any way to update that
until I am all signed in. I guess that means I have to do it manually? What a

Cleaning Up GMail

2018-10-27 Thread Tom Lange
Hi all,
Before I pose my question, I’d like to apologize up-front for the off-topic
nature of this question, but frankly I’m not sure where to go with this, so
please bear with me. Please, no flames.
Tom

RE: ordering from American printing House

2018-10-27 Thread Richard Turner
Is it a supply problem or a demand problem?
My impression is that they have received a bunch of orders lately, but without
talking with them directly, no one knows. It is not uncommon for smaller
companies to have demand outstrip supply, especially when they take the time to
inspect each unit.

I'm one of those who ordered one last Sunday and got the letter this week.
Yes, I want it yesterday, but life is too short to worry about something I have
no control over.

Just my thoughts.

RE: Finger print no longer working...

2018-10-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And don’t think just because it is not working as it does for most others that
it will be better on an Android phone.
The only time Touch Id doesn’t work for me is when I do a lot of woodworking
and my fingers have a lot of scratches, small cuts or glue on them or as right
now when I happened to have burned the pad of my thumb on something and most of
it is covered with a burst and healing blister. Unless there is a “real”
hardware problem with the Touch Id home button there is probably a explanation.

If so you
may have to take the phone to an Apple Store and get them to check out the
Touch Id home button.

You can also choose to do it manually. You will then get a code that you enter
into the new phone to begin transfer of data. Rather like you can do when
setting up an Apple Watch.

Re: Trying to get a QuickStart on my new iPhone to work

2018-10-27 Thread Mary Otten
I thought I remembered that you had to do that scanning of the screen. I did
hold the new phone with the back camera facing to the screen on the old phone
for a while. But I don’t know maybe I didn’t do it long enough. Nothing like
that is stated on that help the screen if that’s what it is that gives you the
choice of either manual or QuickStart. If that’s really important, it seems
like they should say to do that rather than just say put the phones near each
other which is in fact with they do say.

So far as I could tell, the set up process never started. I was offered a
screen that had the instructions on how to do the quick start up or an offer to
do it manually if you wanted. Everything you could double tap on it except the
manual one did nothing. So I did the manual thing and use an iCloud back up.
That work.

Re: ordering from American printing House

2018-10-27 Thread Lea W Langley
hi Joe,
I hope I got your name right. Did you order it online by yourself? If you did,
could you please write me off list or on list whatever you think might be
better, and tell me exactly how you did it. I tried to order mine, but I got
some sort of an order service number error. Would you know what that’s about?
Not only you but anyone else on this list. Thank you all very much, because I’d
really like to learn how to do this.

Is it that we have to have a pH order it for us? Do they have to create an
account for us first? Thank you. All of you.

God bless, wren Langley
Sorry about the dictation errors.

Have you hit enter on the file while in iTunes, in the tones list with your

You should hear the sound when iTunes has added something.

Re: report of missing Sim card

2018-10-27 Thread Richard Turner

I had that happen a couple times and simply used a small paperclip and push in
the hole until the SIM came part way out, pushed it back in and it was fine.
No idea why it happens. It happened one other time, and I did the same thing
and it never happened again over a couple of years.

I believe yo use a comma. Other than that, you could double tap on add ontact
and put their name in. Hope this helps.

Hi all. My finger print is no longer working. I’ve re-set it several times,
turned the phone off and on and done the more complete re-set with the volume

Any other suggestions? It’s a pain to enter my pass code each time I need to

Finger print no longer working...

2018-10-27 Thread Dianne B Phelps
I have been having this problem with my SE now for months. One thing to
check is that we found my screen protector had shifted and was in the way.
So, we took care of that, and the lady at the phone store helped me redo my
finger print which my sister said upon looking was more thorough than what I
was getting doing it myself. I, too have redone this thing time and time
again and hate having to put the passcode in every time or at least 95% of
the time. I don’t know whether it is the phone or just what and am not sure
what I am going to do about it since I do not have an Apple Store close by.
If it weren’t for some of the apps I have, I would switch to somme other
type of phone. I am getting really sick of this stuff not working.

Is it not working at all, i.e. does it not even let you set it up? If so you
may have to take the phone to an Apple Store and get them to check out the
Touch Id home button.

missing tones on my new phone and my old phone

2018-10-27 Thread Mary Otten
It seems that even on my old iPhone, the tone for sent male is gone. I checked
and it is still set to swish“. But I can’t find how to make that play, and
when I send messages it doesn’t play. Same is true for my new phone. Where the

Thank you for the help.
I want to order the orbit reader 20 from American printing House I had it in my

the quantity the item the description and so on. Can anyone tell me what to do

Thank you very much. I hope this is clear enough. I’m not always great at this

Ring tones won't sync, any suggestions?

2018-10-27 Thread 'Kliphton Miller' via VIPhone
Ok, I have done this the iTunes way, have pasted the tones I want into the ring
tones section of iTunes. An article suggested doing 1 at a time, tried that,
no go. I even restored my iPad, to see if that would fix the issue. Still, no
go. But this method above works on my iPhone. Any idea’s? I was thinking
about just importing them into garage band, but think you have to jump threw a
bunch of hoops to do that. I am open to suggestions please.

Re: Trying to get a QuickStart on my new iPhone to work

2018-10-27 Thread Mary Otten
So far as I could tell, the set up process never started. I was offered a
screen that had the instructions on how to do the quick start up or an offer to
do it manually if you wanted. Everything you could double tap on it except the
manual one did nothing. So I did the manual thing and use an iCloud back up.
That work.

Re: Duo

2018-10-27 Thread Gordon
No you don't need a Google account to use Duo unless you're using it on
something that doesn't have phone service or if you want people to be
able to find you using your google ID. when you install Duo, it will
have you put in your phone number. If someone calls you on Duo you're
going to have to open notifications center and you'll see the incoming
call there and can answer it. It doesn't pop up on your screen when a
call comes in on the Iphone.

Re: Bringing up the home screen and app switcher on IPhone XR

2018-10-27 Thread Mary Otten
Yes, the iPhone XR does have haptic feedback. It does not have 3D Touch. But at
least on mine, when I slide my finger of the screen or down from the top, I get
a tactile feedback. Not just the sound.

Re: Facebook question

2018-10-27 Thread Donna
Rich,

If you want to copy a Facebook post do a three finger tap four times. Or you
can do a two finger tap twice & hold. This will bring up a dialogue box. Edit
any part of the Facebook if needed. Turn the rotor to Edit, flick to Copy, go
to where ever you want to share the post. In an edit field turn the rotor to
Edit, flick to paste, tap the post button.

RE: Bringing up the home screen and app switcher on IPhone XR

2018-10-27 Thread rhs
The IPhone XR doesn’t have taptic feedbvack.

I figured out that when voice over starts reading items on the screen as I move
my finger from the top or bottom of the screen that I am moving it too slowly.
When I move my finger a little faster the tones are all that are “spoken”.

I also figured out that if I do not hear the tone at the top or bottom of the
screen that I have not started my finger movement in the right place.

You should also have haptic feedback meaning there should be a vibration when
you reach the first and second point for app switcher and home screen.

Hello,

Yes you can set up the assistive touch option and have menu options. This will
show up as a small dot on the screen that you can actually set to utilize the
home gesture, app switcher, Notification Center and control center. It’s not
ideal but it could work as a work around in noisy situations.

Please let me know if you need or want any further assistance setting this
option up. You can email me off list at e...@overhereconsulting.net

You have to slide up and the first tone is to bring up the home page and the
second tone will activate the app switcher. It takes practice but you should

If you are referring to Hey Siri, go into the settings for siri and turn the

My problem is the other way around. My old phone has iOS 12.01. My guess is
that the new one doesn’t. And of course there won’t be any way to update that
until I am all signed in. I guess that means I have to do it manually? What a
drag!

Oh my, yes, if one can get a phone to a store, those guys live to make phones

That is what I told my cousin last year, when she finally broke down and took
her phone to the AT store, and she said, like magic, the guy got her phone

I was going to suggest for him to take it back where he bought it whether Apple

I'm sure folks are tired of my suggesting to call Apple Accessibility, but you
are more likely to get a resolution more quickly that way. 1-877-204-3930

It was so much easier with a home button.

Are you running the latest version of iTunes? I’m not sure if that’s a
problem, but it might be. I know there have been issues in the past where you
had to have your iTunes up to a certain level for things to work life. I can’t
get the Quickstart to work either, and it is frustrating. I know my old iPhone

maybe it’s on iOS 12.0, that might be the problem. Do you have an iCloud back

passcode. Try again or cancel.

I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it
be that my phone is defective or is there something wrong with the new iPhone
compatibility with the iTunes?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Regards,

Cris

I agree. I bought the VarioUltra too. Now, 3 cells on it have defective pins,

Ah Sieghard,
Many many years ago I set up iTunes to work with my 4 S. Yes, that is how I
got the music on to that phone along with several ring tones. Then came a time
when iTunes became less and les friendly and I quit using iTunes. I have never
even set up this 6 S to use with iTunes and don't foresee doing this any time
soon. So, that is how my music got on the 4 S. I do have an iStick and use
that with my 6 S. I also need to get Waltr 2 set up on my Windows 7 machine,
but haven't done that as of yet.

If you ask nicely an Apple Store may do it for you.

What I wonder is how you got the music to your 4S in the first place since
you can only download it from the iTunes store in which case you bought it
there or you had to transfer it using iTunes (the software) in which case you
should have the music on your computer and it would be an easy thing to sync it
to your 6S again using iTunes.
