Hi all,

In iOS 13, it is now possible to enter numbers by pressing the numbers on the
top row of your Bluetooth keyboard. I use this a lot.

If you mean continuously, no.
It is designed to sync with iCloud.
You may want to write wins...@voicedream.com and ask him if he would consider
offering that as a choice so that Writer would have its own folder on Dropbox.

RE: Logitech K480 keyboard and Hermit Shell carrying case

2020-05-14 Thread chaltain
The typing keys on the K-380 are round and just a pinch smaller than a dime.
They’re actually the same size as the keys on my Das keyboard, except of course
that those keys are square. The surrounding keys on the K-380 are rectangular.

Any idea on the size of the K380 keys?

It depends on what you’re looking for in a keyboard. The K-380 is nice to type
on. The keys are large enough. It doesn’t have a numeric keypad. There isn’t a
lot of space between the main keyboard and some of the surrounding keys, like
the function keys, but the arrow keys are nicely distinguished. It is compact
though. It won’t fit in a pocket or fold, but it is solid. If you’re looking
for something nice to type on that’s still portable and will pair with three
devices then the K-380 is a great choice. If you’re looking for a desktop
keyboard though, with a lot of space for the surrounding keys and a numeric
keypad then the K-380 isn’t the keyboard for you.

Re: wish list in the audible app

2020-05-14 Thread Barbara Stahl
What do you mean by the broken return button? Doesn't it work any more?
Also, I selected the home tab and scrolled all the way to the bottom, and I did
not see a wish list heading. All I found were suggestions from my wish list,
not the whole thing. So where is this phantum wish list in the audible app?
Finally, even if you have had a book for over a year you still likely can
return it by contacting audible by phone.
I did this last year. I read a book I had purchased more than a year before and
I absolutely hated it. I gave it a bad review and I got an email telling me
that I could exchange it. The website would not let me do it so I asked audible
and they said that for longer than a year returns or exchanges you have to have
an audible support agent process the return. Audible is usually very
accomidating.
A couple of months ago, I received an audible gift membership on a gift card
and the website would not take the code for some reason. I contacted audible
and they applied the membrship to my account even though the code did not work
for them either.

this keyboard. So if for instance it says it can work with windows does that
mean it simply operates as like a wireless keyboard to activate anything on my
computer which is in a different corner of the room altogether? Is there
anything else you can recommend that might have a simpler design and work the
same way? a stripped-down version? I have a wireless keyboard for my PC but as
you see, When it comes to the use of my new phone with the updated iOS, I've
been struggling with dictation and voiceover when writing and editing in mail
Gmail in particular and in other apps which I'm not happy about. I never had
these problems with earlier versions of iOS and earlier models of phones. as
you point out however, 13 has other features to offer which will serve persons
who need them.

Re: Problem in Phone App

2020-05-14 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Richard is correct. When in the phone keypad, just tap once on the
number and it will come up correctly. Good luck. If I need to enter
in a number, I always use the keypad rather then Siri as it is easier
for me to enter in a number, then try and speak a number quick enough
for
siri to recognize it.

Hello everyone. In the Audible app how do you get to your wish list? I
don't find it anywhere on my home screen in the Audible app. Someone told
me that you can navigate by headings and that doesn't work for me. Any
suggestions?

Re: swiping up to go to home

2020-05-14 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Knowing you can make a custom gesture for the home button and app
switcher is very cool. After my iPhone 8 goes I'll get an SE20.
However, after that it will be an even newer iPhone. There will
probably be newer iPhones even then the 12. Maybe I'll even get an
iPhone with 512 gigs of space instead of the 256 gigs that I have now.

1 finger,

Start on the bottom edge just off the screen surface and slide
smoothly and not too fast up until you hear a second tone, there should also be
a haptic vibration.

Lift your finger and that takes you to the home screen.

The same gesture, but at the third sound or second vibration
will take you to the app switcher.

It takes some practice, and if you start hearing the usual
screen clicks you get with VoiceOver, you aren’t starting at the right place.
It has to be a smooth slide.

HTH,

I just got the IPhone x. I am not used to not having a home
button. Can someone guide me on what is the best way to swipe to access it? I'm
not really good at swiping, as usually with my old phone I did everything
manually and I didnt swipe much. Its telling me to swipe from the bottom of the
screen upwards, until I hear it vibrate once. how many fingers do I use to
swipe, and how fast do I swipe the screen?

Re: New SE 2

2020-05-14 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks, Kimberly. I’m not surprised that your new phone has a better battery
than the one that’s a year old. Smile. It seems like the replacement batteries
don’t last as long as the ones that were in there originally. I got the one in
my 7+ replaced somewhat before you did,. But since I got it on the cheap $29
replacement program, I sure can’t complain.

Re: Logitech K480 keyboard and Hermit Shell carrying case

2020-05-14 Thread deidre muccio
whew! I just read some reviews on the 380 and yes the keyboards small and
cramped like a netbook. All the other specs were spectacular though. No lag all
those kinds all the other specs were spectacular though. No lag all those kinds
of things. So that's definitely out. That's not gonna work for a heavy Typer
like me. it is time I learn to use Voice Dream Writer as well right? Get rid of
the PC. That's after I learn the commands for the keyboard, or at least where
the shortcut keys are or however it works. So I guess it's time to place that
order for that 480! then I'll be curious if not using dictation and overriding
the router manually stops all the irregularity in being able to edit go back or
forward those sorts of things when in a message or anything I happen to be
typing and editing

True. Size of the keys is probably the most important thing here. For me
anyway. i'll look and see how the 400 compares to the 300. Price has gone up by
the way. But that's not a dealbreaker.

2020-05-14 Thread Richard Turner
You said you did not want one with small keys.
This one works great, and while technically you could pair it with a computer,
I would never recommend it.
The K380 does not have the slot for holding iPads, iPhones, or Android devices.
I just do not know if the keys are standard size.
I cannot recommend any others as this is the only one that I have used that
isn't stupidly small.
I'm sure others could chime in here with more recommendations.

Thanks Alan and Richard.

I appreciate all that everyone does on this list.

I’m looking to get the new iPhone SE 2020 soon. I think my 7 is starting to

Subject: Setting up a new iPhone SE 2020 step by step

I am reposting the below at the request of Vivian.

Alan

Hi List,

I decided to make detailed notes of the steps involved in setting up a new
iPhone mainly for my own benefit since I forget what is involved as I only do
this every couple of years. In my case, I bought this SE 2020 directly from the
Apple Store app with no SIM card included since I have a prepaid Verizon plan
and could not specify my carrier successfully when ordering. The below numbered
list will be very detailed since I'd rather have too much information than not
enough. Any settings provided came from my iPhone 8 running iOS 13.4.1.

1. Opened iTunes on my Windows 7 computer, verified I was running its
latest version of 12.10.6, connected my iPhone 8 using the lightning cable, and
did an encrypted backup.
2. Did an iCloud backup by going to Settings - Alan Lemly - Apple ID -
iCloud - iTunes and App Store, iCloud, iCloud backup, and executing Backup now.
3. I read a lot of books using the BARD Mobile app and since any books
downloaded to an iPhone are not transferred to a new restored iPhone, I made a
list in an Excel file of the downloaded books I wanted to re-download to my new
iPhone and the location of any current reading position in those books.
4. I plugged my lightning cable connected to my computer to the new phone
and the Apple logo appeared on the screen. The white screen appeared a few
seconds later with the cycling languages appearing and I pressed the home
button 3 times quickly to turn on Voiceover. Although I was hearing clicks as I
swiped, Voiceover did not start talking until a number of seconds later. In
fact, I pressed the home button 3 times again because I wasn't sure I had
turned Voiceover on. This turned Voiceover off and I had to press the home
button 3 times again to turn it back on and I heard Voiceover say hello and
when I swiped once, Voiceover said press home to open.
5. I pressed home and Voiceover said Setup and put me in a list of
language buttons with English at the top. I double tapped on English.
6. The screen which opened said Select your country or region heading. I
double tapped on the United States button which was the first in the list.
7. The screen which opened said Quick start heading Bring your current
iPhone or iPad near this iPhone to sign in and set up. The older iPhone must be
using iOS 11 or later with Bluetooth turned on. There was a button at the end
to Set up manually.
8. A screen opened on my old iPhone to set up a new iPhone using my apple
ID with a button to continue. A screen appeared to position some pattern in a
circle but I double tapped the Authenticate manually button instead.
9. I was prompted to input the 6 digit authentication code displayed on my
new iPhone using the number pad screen on my old iPhone. My new iPhone then
prompted me to enter my passcode of my old iPhone. I had to double tap each
number on the on screen number pad on my new iPhone since touch typing was not
turned on.
10. I was prompted to set up touch ID on the new iPhone which I did.
11. Several screens were presented asking me to place my finger and lift my
finger which I did. I was then taken to a screen which said Adjust your grip
and it said keep going to capture the edges of your grip. I double tapped a
Continue button at the bottom of this screen.
12. I was then prompted to again place and lift my finger until I got the
Complete message. Touch ID is ready was spoken and I then executed the Continue
button at the bottom of that screen.
13. The next screen said Transfer your data heading. The explanation said
you can directly transfer your data during setup or finish downloading it
later. Buttons on this screen were Transfer from iPhone, Download from iCloud,
or other options. The Transfer from iPhone said the time to transfer was about
1 hour. The download from iCloud said I could start using my iPhone in about 15
minutes and my data would download later over wifi. I executed the Transfer
from iPhone button.
14. I was taken to a Terms and conditions screen on the new iPhone where I
double tapped an Agree button in the bottom right corner.
15. I was taken to a Settings from other iPhone heading screen where it
listed some settings about allowing Siri to use voice input, contacts, etc. and
allowing maps to use my location. I executed the Continue button at the bottom
of this screen without customizing any settings.
16. I was taken to a Keep your iPhone up to date heading screen which was
basically a

What did you do with your old iPhone 7?

I was hoping to sell mine, as it is in very good condition. The trade in was
only $55, but I see on the open market they go for $100 to $150. I also have a
portable battery charger and a car charger to throw in.

If anyone knows what a good price would be, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Logitech K480 keyboard and Hermit Shell carrying case

2020-05-14 Thread deidre muccio
I just read the description for this keyboard you recommend. It sure sounds
fancy, and I don't mean that in a derogatory sense. Might be a lot more than I
really require or need. For instance I don't need something to hold my iPhone
while I look at it. And that appears to be part of the frame a or design of
this keyboard.

Re: my files app

2020-05-14 Thread Richard Turner
I've never heard of an app disappearing without someone deleting it.
I have clients who have managed to delete apps accidentally.
Have you tried using the spotlight search?
It could also have been accidentally moved into a folder but you'll find it by
using Spotlight.
Touch somewhere in the middle of the screen and swipe down with three fingers.
An edit box will appear that you can type into and search for most anything on
your device.

2020-05-14 Thread Richard Turner
This is the perfect demonstration of the power of iOS 13 and Apple's commitment
to accessibility.
The fact that you can customize the gestures to something that works for you is
fantastic.
I have lots of clients who will benefit from this.
Many people just cannot get that one finger sliding gesture to work.
Thanks to Scott for reminding us, and me, in particular.

The home button on the new SE is not a mechanical home button like on the older
iPhones. But because of the very responsive haptic touch on the new phone it
does have the feel of a “physical” home button. I hope that makes sense.

Re: New SE 2

2020-05-14 Thread Kimberly
Hi Mary,

I had an iPhone 7 before I got my new SE. It was in good condition and was
working fine except that the battery was no longer lasting as long as I wanted.
In fact, I had the battery replaced in January of last year but lately I was
still having to charge my phone every day by dinnertime.

The new phone seems to have much better battery life though I don’t know that
it’s simply a matter of it being a brand new phone with a brand new battery. I
don’t think the battery life is necessarily better than in any new iPhone I’ve
had.

Still I absolutely don’t regret my purchase. The much snappier performance of
the new SE is worth the price of admission all on its own.

Also, and this is really just a side note, I find that braille screen input is
working much more consistently on my new SE than it did on the iPhone 7. I’m
not sure why that is, but. I am very happy about it.

Kim

thanks. its going to take me a lot of practice. I tried it but I am not good at
it. I got to the app switcher one time, but that was it.
I'll keep practicing.

1 finger,
Start on the bottom edge just off the screen surface and slide smoothly and not
too fast up until you hear a second tone, there should also be a haptic
vibration.
Lift your finger and that takes you to the home screen.
The same gesture, but at the third sound or second vibration will take you to
the app switcher.

It takes some practice, and if you start hearing the usual screen clicks you
get with VoiceOver, you aren’t starting at the right place. It has to be a
smooth slide.

HTH,

Richard

I just got the IPhone x. I am not used to not having a home button. Can someone
guide me on what is the best way to swipe to access it? I'm not really good at
swiping, as usually with my old phone I did everything manually and I didnt
swipe much. Its telling me to swipe from the bottom of the screen upwards,
until I hear it vibrate once. how many fingers do I use to swipe, and how fast
do I swipe the screen?
