Hi Shai, Thank you and all others that replied. Your input was greatly appreciated. What happened, which I found out later was our router needed a firmware update and until this update was installed our Wifi had been knocked out but, only for our iPhones and computers, it didn't effect our Echo devices at all, which I don't understand. After Spectrum installed the firmware update and I rebooted / power cycled the modem / router everything was back to normal, for now anyways. I had been having this text failing to send message appearing for several months and I can't tell which iOS version I started hearing this message with but, someone pointed out that the message could be from texting someone using an Android phone. Since I don't text much at all, now I know to make note to whom I text to verify the texting iPhone vs Android suggestion. Thanks again. Take care. Mike. Hello, I have not had this issue. I would try the following and then contact your carrier if the below steps do not work: 1. Reset network settings in settings/general/reset; note, you will need to have all wifi passwords handy as all wifi connections will be lost upon this reset. 2. The two or three times my texts have failed to send have always been because somehow airplane mode has switched itself on. Once I return it to off, then the texts go without a problem. Every time I send a text message, and it doesn't matter whether I send by typing it out or dictating and using Siri, I get a message in the Notification Center stating the message failed to send when the message did indeed send. Did you check the Message settings in the main phone settings? Send as SMS should be on, Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable. Carrier messaging rates may apply. iMessages are between Apple devices, SMS allows sending to other devices, and if you plan to send photos, send as MMS also should be on. Message Failed to Send Revisited
Hi All, Last night I was trying to text a friend and I kept getting "message failed to send." She has an Android and I have an iPhone 7 with IOS 13.3. The things that I tried for those 10 messages are: Rebooting the phone. Deleting her messages from my message list. Dictating through Siri within or outside the message app. Going into Contacts and selecting her name and then dictating the message. I had no idea my question was going to cause such a flurry of messages. To be clear: this happens to me no matter what kind of phone the recipient has. And I’m not getting a “retry” option; it just says “failed to send” and goes away. But in each case I have gotten a response, one from an iPhone and one from an Android phone. Might I just say, in all kindness, that I find the messages that say “I don’t have this problem at all” less than helpful. I wanted to know if this was something to be concerned about and what I might do to fix it. I have lots of ideas about the latter. Those of you who are not plagued by this minor irritant, I am glad for you. On my phone the message app opens automatically no matter I am sending to another i Phone user or other kind of smart phone user. I've got verizon as well with my iPhone 8. I have had no issues with text messages not sending. I can send messages using siri to my moms android phone with no issues. One reason this “Message Failed to Send” alert might appear to be specific to Android users is likely because sending a message to another iPhone user will result in an iMessage being sent. This is a red herring. I was having the same problem and all of the notions expressed in this thread did indeed pop into my mind as well. I am now subscribed as a Credo Network user and, as evident from this thread, it does not appear to be a provider specific issue. After exhausting all the notions I could come up with, I finally called Credo Tech Support; they had me execute a network reset on my iPhone and the problem has completely resolved. For those who might not be aware of the reset feature: - Open Settings - Select General - Locate and select the Reset Button (Second control from the bottom of the “General” dialog box just above the “Shutdown” button. - Identify and select the “Network Reset line. You will be required to enter your password and confirm you want to execute this reset. It has been suggested to me that what’s happening is that somehow my texts are failing to send as iMessages, but then the phone sends them as regular texts and they go through just fine. Sometimes the message does indeed send but not always. Perhaps there is a setting for timing out or canceling out the message if it will not send in a set period of time. I’m on Verizon. So it appears this is not a carrier issue unless multiple carriers have the same problem. Interesting that some of us seem to get a message not delivered notification but the message still went through. In my case, and I have checked probably 20+ occurrences, the message was never delivered. Now I just leave messages in the message app. If I try to send to someone that I have sent a message to in the past & the message is still in my message app, it always goes through. Also, several people have mentioned that they don’t have this problem if they don’t use Siri to send the message. In my case, I have always used Siri. I will have to try to type in a message to someone with an Android who has no message in my message app & see what happens. If I were to delete the messages from the message app, the whole process would start again. This is very annoying & I have not found a setting I can change to fix it. Since most of these messages are not imessages and are being sent to android phones, I think it is a problem with the carrier. I might be wrong, but I think the failure to send message comes from the carrier. The only exception to this would be if you have a weak cell signal and the message can not be sent for this reason. Most of my messages do go through to my contacts with an android phone, the thing I have never been able to do is to text multiple people together that have android phones. If I send the messages individually, they go just fine, but if I do a single message to multiple android contacts, it never goes through. Yes, Send as SMS is on. I checked it when I first started having this problem. Hopefully this may help others though. Check your Settings, Messages, and make sure Send as SMS is turned on. This will send your texts as SMS messages when iMessage is unavailable. I have the same issue. This seems to happen when I try to text those who do not have an IPhone. Every single one I have investigated has an Android. Once there is a text in the messages app, the next message seems to send just fine. So, for example, I send a message to ABC & it fails. I send it again & it works. As long as I leave these messages in the message app, I can successfully send another message to ABC next week. If I were to delete the messages from the message app, the whole process would start again. This is very annoying & I have not found a setting I can change to fix it. Hi, ys, I still occasionally get the failure notice. The way I can usually tell is by getting a text alert tone immediately after I tell Siri to send the message. I resend the message and will get the tone indicating the message has been sent. I have heard some people say that the message failure notices seem to come when sending a message to someone using android. I frequently--more than once a week--get message failed to send. Usually it's when I am sending from my iPhone to someone else's Android phone. Sometimes I can resend and it will go through.
