Apple Store app FAQ and screen recognition
Another place, at least for me, where I find I need to use screen recognition is with the Apple Store app when I try to read their FAQ. I am in the United States and running iOS 16.3.1 on both an iPhone 12 mini and an iPhone 13 mini, although this problem has actually been occurring for quite some time. If I, say, select an iPhone and go down after all of the color and size selections and get to the bottom where the frequently asked questions are, I can find the expand and collapse buttons and double tap on them and read or collapse the answers, but I can’t read the questions they are actually answering unless I turn on screen recognition first. Of course, given the answers that are shown, I can pretty much tell what’s being answered without turning on screen recognition to confirm the questions. FAQ in Apple Store app
This isn't really a big deal to me but just something I noticed when looking over the information about the new iPhones using the Apple Store app. Their frequently asked questions section, at least for me, seems to show the expand button for each question, where one can double tap on that and see the answer to the question, but the specific question itself doesn't appear to be read unless one turns on the screen recognition feature. I've tried this with both an iPhone 12 Mini and an iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 16.0.3, and I am in the United States. I open the Apple Store app. I then scroll down to Shop by Product and select iPhone. I then select one of the iPhones, say iPhone SE, for example. I then scroll down to near the end of the information about the SE and select the Frequently Asked questions. I then see the list of questions with each having an expand button, but the questions themselves don't read unless I enable screen recognition. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: Purchasing Apple Care Plus for an iPad Air 2 from the Apple Store app
When I ordered my Apple Watch I tried to do it with the Apple Store app but while it was no problem to add Apple Care Plus, I could not figure out how to get them to ship the watch, it kept on wanting to send it to my nearest Apple Store. At the time I was in Calgary, and there are two Apple Stores there, but by the time the watch was supposed to arrive I would have been back at home and that means the closest Apple Store in Vancouver would be about 800 miles away. I ended up doing it on the computer/website and I don't recall having problems adding Apple Care. I also just ordered an Apple Watch Sport Series 2 for my wife and again adding Apple Care was right there after I selected the watch. Maybe call Apple Accessibility and ask them to walk you through it and tell you where you have to look to add it. I was, by the way, using Internet Explorer 11 with Jaws 18 when I just ordered my wife's watch. Ordering Apple Watch with the Apple Store app
Hi, I always had good luck with the Apple Store app and found it easy to use and very accessible. Recently I decided I am ready to buy an Apple Watch. I happen to be in Calgary right now where there are 2 Apple Stores. Unfortunately neither one has an Apple Watch Series 2 in stock or at least not the stainless steel model I want. In the app it says delivery is 3 to 4 weeks, but after I add the watch I want to the cart or "Bag" as they call it and want to checkout it keeps saying that it will be ready for pick up at the nearest Apple Store by November 24. I just have an option at the bottom to pay and see no way to select to have it shipped to me since I am going to be long gone from here by November 24. I checked in the account tab and my address is entered correctly under "Primary address" but I just don't see a way to change it from store pickup to getting shipped to me. I am curious if anybody else has ordered something recently and knows if this is done in a later step or how it can be done. My state is entered correctly. My street is run, Not St., Drive or Road. anyone else having trouble with using ApplePay on the apple store app?
Subject line says it all. I have had 4 support calls with Apple about this to no avail. Have checked and my settings and account information are all correct in iTunes and Wallet and ApplePay app. I have been able to successfully pay with ApplePay in the Apple store, can purchase using "other payment options" within the Apple store app, and have checked online to make sure that my Apple ID is correct. I have re-set network settings twice, verified and re-entered my billing address multiple times, and have tried to order using cellular data. I have deleted and re-installed the Apple store app. When I attempt to purchase using touch id, I get "error image", which points to the billing address. This has also been verified by a sighted person. The only thing I note is that my ship to name is incorrect, though it is correct in my Wallet app. Any additional suggestions? Thanks. I had the same problem. My bank would not accept them because of the way they report their name. This is after I confirmed the gtransaction several times. You need to use the 2 letter abbreviation for the state name, as well as 2 letters for street, drive, etc, otherwise the billing address won’t be accepted, at least in my experience. > On Oct 31, 2015, at 5:32 PM, John Diakogeorgiou <jdiakoge2...@gmail.com> > wrote: > > I had the same problem. Hi Mary, Have you added both of your cards to Apple Pay? If so, you should have both options. You might want to call Apple Accessibility and have them walk you through it. Re: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Hi Mary, Yes, I've purchased several things with Apple Pay from the Apple store app. If I remember right, there's a Pay with Apple Pay option, which you double-tap. Somewhere along the line, you use touch ID to confirm that you want to use it. I don't remember the exact steps, but it went well. I would suggest making sure you have the latest version of the Apple Store app. If you happen to have an old version, maybe the option isn't there. Re: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Hi Anna, Thanks for the report of your experience. I think I have the newest version of Apple Store at least there are no updates in my App Store. So I guess it's the newest one. When I went to buy my item I was going to the checkout process, and when I got to the payment place it just showed me the card I have on file with no other options. Maybe I will go back in there and see if I can double tap that and hope it doesn't just make a purchase, which is not what I want. Discover card has a deal going right now where you get 10% on any Apple Pay purchases you make with their card. So, being as mercenary as the next guy, I'd like to get that 10%. Smile. How frustrating! I didn't have that problem buying a phone with Apple Pay, thank goodness. Best of luck getting it sorted. Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
I saw a note on Applevis from sometime back stating that the pay with Apple Pay option is not accessible for voiceover in the online Apple Store app. I just tried to buy something using that app, and I also did not see the Apple Pay option. Am I missing something? Has anyone successfully bought something using the Apple Store app and Apple Pay with voice over? I bought the 6s using Apple Pay from the Apple App. What was interesting though is that my credit card rejected the payment because they thought it was fraud. Re: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Well this is very interesting, since so many of you have done the Apple Pay thing. I have an item in my bag. On the screen with the bag and item before I check out, there were a bunch of recommended things which I rejected and tap to continue. On the next screen there are no payment options and there is a checkout button. If I had the checkout button I go to the screen with the one and only payment option being a card I had previously used, the one that is on file with iTunes and The App Store. No Apple Pay anywhere to be found. If I double tap on that card, no other payment options materialize. So I wonder if you folks who have had success had already a credit card on file? Did you see two options on your screen? Your previously on file card plus Apple Pay? I am really really confused. Re: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Hi Anna, No. I have one card in Apple Pay. The very same Discover card that I am trying to use with Apple Pay. That Discover card is showing up as the payment option. But, how am I supposed to know if it is Apple Pay or not Apple Pay? I have use that card previously. It is my iTunes and App Store card. I suppose I shouldn't quibble over 10%. But if you're buying an item that cost a few hundred bucks, 10% is not chump change maybe I should put another card into Apple Pay and see if it shows up by magic. Or maybe this is Apple Pay. I would just feel better if I saw the words. RE: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Hello Mary, I have discovered that, sometimes, it is necessary to make certain that the native Passbook/Wallet app is open before opening the app in which you wish to make a purchase. A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine was attempting to purchase some Amtrack tickets using the Amtrack app. The Apple Pay did not appear as an option for her. I suggested that she restart her phone, and open the Passbook app, before launching Amtrack. After doing this, the Apple Pay was then displayed as a purchasing option. Re: Using Apple Pay in the Apple Store app
Hi Mark, I did as you suggested, and I don't get any different results. No special Apple Pay button is present. But I also find interesting is that I'm having to sign in with my password all over the place when I do things in the app store or with Apple Store. Touch ID is supposed to be enabled for all this good stuff, such as yesterday when I purchased a voice in voice dream reader in the iTunes Store. But my touch ID does nothing in those instances. I meant the app store, not the iTunes Store. In any case, I wonder if my having to enter my ID and password where I thought I was going to just be able to do touch is an indication that something is not quite right. Maybe I should go to a Mac store and see what they say. Mary Sent from my iPhone > On Sep 27, 2015, at 6:34 PM, M. You don't choose if you are using your phone. It is always Apple Pay. To use it asv a regular credit card you must still swipe it. follow-up to my pre-ordering from the Apple Store app question of last week
You might recall that I mentioned pre-ordering the 64GB AT iPhone 6S plus, but then canceled the order when I looked further at the contract free option. I still haven't ordered anything; but, as often is the case, grin, I'm thinking I'll go back and get the AT model after all. Although, of course, I won't have it on the 25th. I did call Apple to ask the differences in the various phones; and, while the person was quite willing to help and stay on the line as long as necessary, I kind of felt I was directing her to look and find each specification for which I had a question. She did let me know, as I had forgotten that detail, about AT not unlocking a phone till someone has been with them for 60 days. But, whether that means 60 days as a brand new customer, or 60 days after an upgrade, I didn't choose to pursue seeing as I plan to stay with AT and just like the idea of having complete control over my phones. Here are links to three different articles which lean me towards getting the AT phone, and then getting it unlocked at some future date. Oh, before I give those links, I just checked the Apple Store app again; and, believe it or not, the 6S 64GB in Space Gray is still showing delivers on the 25th as of ten till four EDT this Sunday afternoon in the United States, while the similar model in the 6S plus is showing available to ship in 3 to 4 weeks. Even though I tend to prefer the smaller models, I decided to again try the larger phone. The first link here is to the Apple specifications for the new iPhones, the second link deals with the extra band 30 on the AT model and the last link deals more with an international flavor of discussing the different phone models: www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/ www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2491013,00.asp www.techwalls.com/iphone-6s-plus-models-differences/ -- The following information is important for all members of the VIPhone list. Pop up button frustration, particularly in Apple Store app
Hello all, I have particular difficulty with pop up buttons. If I double tap as instructed by the hints, nothing usually happens, if I double tap and hold, sometimes, if I tap elsewhere on the screen I get a message to double tap to launch the picker. However, when testing the ability to order a new iPhone with the Apple Store app, I can only pick my state and then cannot pick subsequent choices. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Re: Pop up button frustration, particularly in Apple Store app
Hi Amy, Often, a picker appears at the bottom of the screen. So try double-tapping to activate it, and then check at the bottom to see if it's there. Then make sure the rotor is set to Adjust Value. In iOS 9, my experience is that the rotor isn't as likely to change to this option automatically as it used to be. Then, with any luck, you should be able to flick to the choice you want. With some pickers, you can move more quickly by flicking with three fingers, which is handy if there are lots of options. Then flick left to the Done button and double-tap. I hope that helps. Re: Pop up button frustration, particularly in Apple Store app
Hi Hannah, That works for the state Papa button on that screen, but even with the rotor sent to adjust value, the button for the store choice does not come up. I will try this on other screens in other apps and see if I have better luck. Thanks. pre-ordering with the Apple Store app
I first have a question, then I'll talk about my experience using the Apple Store app to pre-order an iPhone here in the United States. Is it possible to pre-order an unlocked iPhone 6S or 6S Plus using the Apple Store app? When using the app, I see the option to order a contract free iPhone; then, when I select this option, the app shows step1 us prodselect tmobilelo. And, I'm not quite sure what this means, not sure if this is different from a factory unlocked phone normally available from Apple a few months after the new iPhones go on sale. Although, it kind of looks like some sort of T-Mobile model phone. As for the rest of my experience with the Apple Store app and pre-ordering, I opted to sleep in and try to see what I could do around eight o'clock yesterday morning. And, I was able to go in and pre-order the Space Gray iPhone 6S Plus 64GB to be delivered September 25th. I had looked at the contract free choice, but didn't at that time realize I had to double tap on that step1 message stated above to get it to work, so thought it was only an in store option. Thus, I pre-ordered the AT model, thankfully being able to choose to pay full purchase price this time, as you might recall it took me forever to get that Next plan paid off when I purchased the 6 Plus last year. When I was purchasing that said carrier model, I was made aware of a $15 upgrade fee, even though I had paid off my Next plan contract several months ago. Of course I had to research that fee further, and found that AT had indeed changed their upgrade fees as indicated from: www.att.com/shop/wireless/upgrade-advantage.html Then, I checked further and saw this iPhone 6S and 6S Plus buying guide indicating that one could get an unlocked phone from Apple right away: m.imore.com/how-buy-iphone-6s-and-iphone-6s-plus-united-states When I read that article, I went back to the Apple Store app and looked again, and that is when I paid more attention and saw how to make the contract free option show up such that I could pay outright for that selection. I then canceled my AT order, something that was quite easily done on the Apple web site with just a few keystrokes, but haven't yet submitted another order. By the way, the AT and contract free Space Gray iPhone 6S 64GB were still showing a September 25th delivery date as of an hour ago, meaning around 11:30 AM EDT on Sunday morning, while both the contract free and AT models for the Space Gray 64GB 6S Plus were showing a 3 to 4 week delivery time. -- The following information is important for all members of the VIPhone list. Apple Store app and order status
First, I'll ask my question, then I'll give a follow-up regarding a message I sent a week or two ago asking about sending something to a third party with the Apple Store app. When going into the Apple Store app and choosing the account tab and going to the notifications heading and then double tapping order status, I can't tell what is supposed to happen. For, I don't hear anything about something being checked or selected, and I have restarted the phone with the same results. Anyone got any ideas? Second, when I used the Apple Store app to ship something to my brother, it showed my address as the default address; but, double tapping on that, I got the option to choose an address from my contacts, and so selected the contact for my brother. When his contact came up, I had to choose a phone number for him; and, taking a risk as to what might be sent to him, I also left his email address showing and placed the order. And, as I hoped and suspected, I got the order confirmation and shipping confirmation emails, and he just got an email giving the shipping information. In fact, my order confirmation email, gave his email address as getting the shipment notification, but I was glad I also got the notification with the tracking number, too. Oh, as a side note, when I purchased it the first weekend they were available, my iPhone 6 plus shipped via UPS Worldwide Express Saver, while his iPad Air 2 I just recently purchased shipped FedEx International Economy Distribution. And, grin, my iPhone 6 plus was shipped on Monday, and the first delivery attempt was made just two days later on that Wednesday, although I was at work and had to thus have the phone delivered the next day when I could be home to sign. While, on the other hand, the iPad Air 2 was shipped last Tuesday, and is only now showing up at the destination sort facility. True, I'm here in Indianapolis, Indiana, while my brother is in a small town in southeastern Kentucky, so that might be the reason for the difference in shipping. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. the Apple Store app
As some of you all may recall from reading my message of last night, I was unable to select a pricing plan after confirming my eligibility to upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus through ATT using the Apple Store app. VoiceOver read me my choices of the ATT Next installment plan or the two year contract, but I was unable to choose either one, as I just couldn't find a button to make the choice. You might also recall from my message of last night, while playing around and looking at my options and the Apple Store app not being able to reach ATT to check my upgrade status, I was given a reservation number for an iPhone 6 Plus 16GB to be reserved. Thus, my question, would the Apple Store app have remembered this reservation and so not let me move forward with anything else, or is there a problem with the app in letting we VoiceOver users choose one of the options from ATT, or was I doing something wrong in the app to cause the problem? Oh, as a side note, I did appreciate the tip about calling apple to order; but, well, I kind of enjoyed the experience of getting up and trying the pre-order as soon as it was available, kind of liked the challenge, even if it didn't work quite as I would have preferred in my case. And, either way, whether it be a bit sooner or later, I expect to have a new iPhone 6 Plus within the next couple of months, as I've had my 4S for three years now. Guess I got under five hours left to decide about that 16GB reserved for me. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. RE: the Apple Store app
Hello Vicky, Thank you so much for taking the time to comprehensively describe your PreOrder experience with A T T Wireless and Apple. As for me, I have not yet determined if I will upgrade to the 6 series even though I am eligible for an upgrade. One reason why I don't pre-order, via A T T Wireless, online, anyway, is because the last time I tried doing so, they required that I agree to give up my Unlimited data plan. Actually, the agreement was buried deep in the text but, nevertheless, it was there. Fortunately for me, I recognized this requirement and stopped the pre-order. Several of my friends, however, did not recognize this requirement and completed the order and lost their Unlimited data plan. As it turned out, many, many people lost their Unlimited data plans that time and A T T Wireless received kind of a black eye as a result. Regardless, they did not re-instate those who lost their grandfathered plans. Since then, I stay away from pre-ordering anything that has to do with my iPHones. Should I decide to upgrade to the 6 series, I'll simply go into either an Apple Store or an A T T Wireless corporate store and pick one up, making sure that nothing on my phone plan is changed. I strongly suspect that at some point, A T T Wireless will simply withdraw the Unlimited data plan altogether but until then, I'm hanging on to it for dear life (smile). Again, thank you for sharing your experience.
Vicky, I came across the same issue when trying to preorder with the Apple Store app. This happened each of the 3 or 4 times I tried, closing the app each time from the app switcher and several times throughout the last 30 hours or so. I have a working theory: it either means that the Apple Store app and the Apple servers totally crashed, or the ATT servers totally crashed, or there's always the possibility that something else happened. Anyway, many many people are preordering this weekend. I finally just went to an ATT store in my area and had no issues preordering on the spot. I chose the smaller iPhone 6, mainly because I don't want to carry around an iPad hat's also a phone. Also, I don't take a lot of pictures with my phone and don't really need the extra space. The representative told me that those ordreing the 6 Plus wouldn't get their new phones until early November. Since I chose the 6, mine will come in the first week of October. Fine, I can still use my 5 until then. Another advantage of going to the store was that I got a $200 trae-in estimate for my iPhone 5. That will certainly help with the phone's case, and then there's always gas and groceries, grin. Very excited! Wayne On 9/13/14, M. Re: the Apple Store app
When I checked the ATT web site earlier today, they were indeed giving November dates for the shipping. But, when I checked the Apple Store app, they're giving three to four weeks for the same iPhone 6 Plus to ship. So, who knows. I'm not altogether sure I'll like the bigger size; but, with the better battery life and camera, I thought I would give it a try. Wonder if there is a problem with the Apple Store app for we VoiceOver users, or if they were just really busy? I mean, even if they were busy, shouldn't there have at least been a way for us to select whether we wanted the contract or the next option? Kind of reminds me of the Schwan's frozen food app where the screen reads things like Contact Us and Settings, but there is no way to activate those buttons. I'd like to try the site again, but guess I can't now, as the records should show I've already made a purchase on my account. - Original Message - From: Wayne Merritt wcmerr...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Date sent: Sat, 13 Sep 2014 16:40:30 -0500 Subject: Re: the Apple Store app Vicky, I came across the same issue when trying to preorder with the Apple Store app. This happened each of the 3 or 4 times I tried, closing the app each time from the app switcher and several times throughout the last 30 hours or so. Re: the Apple Store app
I don't think the problem is with the Apple Store app since I have tried to preorder wit the ATT site and the MY ATT app and had issues with both. In the case of the ATT site, I got a waiting room image when I tried to preorder during the first hour yesterday morning, happened to be up at that time. And in the case of the My ATT app, that was a case of it not being accessible, so probably not related to the mass of humanity ordering hones this weekend. In any case, I got a notification earlier that my order has been processed and that I will get another notification when it has been shipped, so perhaps ATT are moving quicker through the preorders than the initial 3-6 week estimates. I was surprised to get the notification so soon though, especially since I did the preorder this afternoon. That worked, thank you. For some reason the continue button is very hard to find, but now that I know to look for it it should be easier. Apple Store app
It seems that the Apple Store app is rather hit and miss with the ability to select items for purchase. For example, I am in the process of purchasing a couple of Macbook Airs and have discovered that I do not seem to be able to select and customize them in the Apple Store app using iOS7 and an iPhone. RE: Apple Store app
Hi Geoff, I just used the Apple Store app on Friday to order my unlocked iPhone 5S directly from Apple here in Canada and the experience could not have been more accessible and easier. I was easily able to select the size and colour, add the Apple Care plan and select one of the leather cases. I did not do an engraving order, I actually don't recall seeing it although I just might not have paid attention to that since I don't want my iDevices engraved.
