Re: Best iTunes format?

2013-05-20 Thread Russ Kiehne
Along the same line, I imported a collection of mp3's into itunes. How do I
find out which ones didn't import? The reason I know some of them didn't
get added to the itunes library. Itunes reports several less mp3's that I
know I started with.

I've never used the automatically add to iTunes folder. When I had my Windows

they are located. Thus far, It has found all the files. Several files are

No big deal about the spelling, it's a unique way, and screen readers don't
tell you when its different. Thanks for the tips, I don't know why they aren't
being converted or imported either. But I will defanently use the originals

RE: Best iTunes format?

2013-05-19 Thread Cristóbal
I've only had this problem with ogg files that I forget are there. I did
have a plugin that allowed for ogg formatted files to play in iTunes, but
that was on my old machine. I haven't gotten around to installing it on to
my curret one though. That aside though, Can't say I've had problems with
mp3's getting imported.

I do have issues sometimes with the track information showing up in iTunes
but when playing the file, iTunes can't find it and I have to go do the add
to folder/add to file rout for them to be properly imported, but even then,
they'll get accepted eventually.

MP3s should be accepted with no problem, so I'm curious: what is happening?

I would not recommend converting your MP3s into another format until all
other troubleshooting steps are exhausted. Since it's a lossy format,
converting to another lossy format would further degrade the quality of your
media. Converting to a lossless format, such as WAVE or Apple Lossless,
would take up a lot of extra space with no quality gain.

So what is happening when you try to import the problematic files?

Re: Best iTunes format?

2013-05-19 Thread Grant Hardy
Hey Kliphton, sorry about the spelling - that was a sloppy mistake on my part.

If you have the originals in .wav format I'd go with those--iTunes
will help you convert them to a format of your choice. As Ricardo
said, a 128 KBPS AAC file, say, will sound a lot better than a 128
KBPS MP3 file.

I honestly have no idea what's going on with your MP3 files not being
accepted, but as I say it could be anything--iTunes doesn't always let
you know what the problem is.

Re: Best iTunes format?

2013-05-19 Thread Grant Hardy
Because MP3 is already a lossy format. In order to compress the songs,
the quality is degraded a bit (i.e. some higher frequency sounds are
taken out). It isn't always something that the human ear can pick up
on, but if you convert to another lossy format (i.e. .m4a) more
compression would be applied and the quality will be further degraded.
You might then have a file which is say 256 KBPS AAC, but which sounds
a lot worse than that.

It could be anything, honestly. Is there a certain group of songs that are
problematic or do they seem to be random ones?

The trouble is, Clifton already has MP3 files that he wishes to add.
If he tries to convert them to .m4a format (another lossy format), the
quality will degrade. But yes, it certainly is a better format in terms of
quality.

It could be anything, honestly. Is there a certain group of songs that

Hi,

not really. Thats kinda the industry standard. You might find some
recordings at 24 bit but, iTunes plays those just fine.

The trouble is, Clifton already has MP3 files that he wishes to add.
If he tries to convert them to .m4a format (another lossy format), the
quality will degrade. But yes, it certainly is a better format in

It will accept Mp3's but perhaps only a limited set of bit depths and sample
rates. Try 44,100 HZ and 16 bit for example.

Re: Best iTunes format?

2013-05-19 Thread Grant Hardy
MP3s should be accepted with no problem, so I'm curious: what is happening?

I would not recommend converting your MP3s into another format until
all other troubleshooting steps are exhausted. Since it's a lossy
format, converting to another lossy format would further degrade the
quality of your media. Converting to a lossless format, such as WAVE
or Apple Lossless, would take up a lot of extra space with no quality
gain.

So what is happening when you try to import the problematic files?

Okay, I am tired of fighting with iTunes on what format it will except and
