Re: "This Accessory May Not Be Supported" Message

2015-02-10 Thread Feliciano G
This typically happens when the cable is not certified by apple. Often,
non-certified cables will work for a short period of time and then this error
will come up. I have also noticed that this error comes up shortly before the
cable does not charge the device. I recommend the AmazonBasics lighting cables.
They are certified and a lot stronger than the Apple cables. You can purchase
3Ft or 6Ft cable lengths, the 6Ft cable is really nice.

Hi there,

I respectfully disagree with you. I have a brand new cable and I get this same
error. It may also mean simply that the phone does not like the cable even
though it may be correct. I have learned to get around it by shutting off the
phone when you plug it in.

If your iPhone 5 is still under warranty with either the apple provided one or
through purchased AppleCare, apple will replace the lightning cable at no
charge.

Re: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

2014-08-13 Thread Regina Alvarado
You can try the compressed air, but a friend of mine kept having this message
come up on his iPhone too. He took it to an apple store and they said the whole
speaker to the top of the phone wake-sleep button needed to be replaced. He has
a 4s. The person helping him took off the back and took out a piece that goes
through the phone from speaker to wake-sleep and slipped another in. It has
never popped that message again. He said the cost was about 90 dollars, but if
you have insurance on your phone it will probably not cost at all. Hope this
helps.

Hi Alan,

Do you carry your iPhone in your pocket a lot? I heard quite often from people
on the Today in iOS Podcast that those who do may gret lint and stuff into
their port and that this could cause issues. You can use compressed air to blow
it out.

Subject: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

I'm used to getting the above subject error message when charging my iPhone 5
using the third-party lightning cable I bought from Amazon on the cheap.
However, I'm now starting to get it from time to time when charging using the
Apple cable that came with my iPhone.

I'm curious with what others have experienced with their Apple cables and how
long they've lasted. I take extremely good care of my stuff almost to the point
of being OCD so I'm concerned that this message is starting to occur too
frequently.

Is anyone else getting this message and under what circumstances? How well are
your Apple cables holding up?

Thanks for any comments.

Sieghard, I do keep my iPhone in my pocket but with the connector and
headphone jack end toward the top for easier access. Sounds like I need to
get some compressed air.

Hi Alan,

Do you carry your iPhone in your pocket a lot? I heard quite often from
people on the Today in iOS Podcast that those who do may gret lint and stuff
into their port and that this could cause issues. You can use compressed air
to blow it out.

The Apple certified cables with lightning adaptors have a special chip
which communicates with the battery system in the iDevice to best manage
the battery charge and condition. Non Apple certified lightning adaptor
cables do not have this chip, and will shorten one's ultimate battery
life. I only use Apple certified cables for this reason.

Also, Apple certified wall adaptors have regulator technology which
stops current flow if there is a strong power draw as well as surge
protection. This system communicates with the lightning chip to best
manage the iDevice or Mac battery condition and charging.

Re: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

2014-08-11 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, Alan,

I just recently acquired an iPhone case with a battery charger in it and it's
really neat. However, from time to time, I also get that error message with
that. I can't remember the brand name of this case, but a lot of the time I
have to press the charge button on the case to activate the charge again.
However, I turned Bluetooth off tonight and I got the phone to give me a full
charge in the case. I don't know if that has anything to do with the error
message or not. I know someone who has the same case as I, but I don't know if
he had ever gotten the same message.

Re: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

2014-08-11 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi,
I have the same message charging with non apple certify cable when i was
overseas.
I think, since then, it rulen my battery life quite significantly. i was away
for quite some period of time.
I guess, just be aware of the damage it might cause, using the 3rd party cable.
According to Apple, my battery was on 20% of its normal capacity.
I'm lucky that they replace the battery for me free of charge.

RE: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

2014-08-11 Thread Jeffrey Turner
Hi,

I got this error message for a while while charging my iPhone 5, but if I
flipped the charger connector over and plugged it in the other way, it
charged just fine. I surmise that some dust got in there and queered the
connection. Since then, it cleared itself up and I haven't gotten the
message for a while now.

I'm used to getting the above subject error message when charging my iPhone
5 using the third-party lightning cable I bought from Amazon on the cheap.
However, I'm now starting to get it from time to time when charging using
the Apple cable that came with my iPhone.

I'm curious with what others have experienced with their Apple cables and
how long they've lasted. I take extremely good care of my stuff almost to
the point of being OCD so I'm concerned that this message is starting to
occur too frequently.

Is anyone else getting this message and under what circumstances? How well
are your Apple cables holding up?

Thanks for any comments.

Re: This Accessory May Not Be Supported

2014-08-11 Thread Alan Paganelli
Well, I've had my lightning cable sense I got my iPhone 5s on October 20, 2013
so it's just months short of a year. I got my iPad Air in January of this
year. Both cables are still in perfect condition. I too take very good care
of my equipment and cables and connectors. Even when I traveled on the road
with a band I did the same thing. I guess when it comes to cables and
connectors I just hate to have to buy another one if I can at all help it. I
did buy an extra lightening cable though as a backup. It's still in it's
packaging it came in. I never opened it up.

Alan
