  Hi Eileen,

Don't worry, I doubt Alan's version is working now any more since this is an
issue with google not allowing apps which are installed on iOS devices to
access certain data and I assume Alan said his is working because maybe he
hasn't used it in the last week or so. At first I said it was working fine
because when I saw the first messages about this it seemed like I had just
used it a couple of days before and it worked and sometimes it's easy to
forget that it's been a week since you used a certain app. Lois confirmed
that her 1.3 version isn't working either and while the developer replied to
her saying they are aware of the issue and are working on it, the reply I
received and which I posted specifically stated it was a problem with
Google. I don't know exactly how Goggle gets it's information, but obviously
it has something to do with Google so until they resolve that I guess we are
all in the same boat. If it turns out it won't work at all any more then I
guess the world will continue to revolve around the sun and we have to jump
ship so to speak and utilize other apps although for some things Talking
  Goggles was excellent.

  Sieghard

2013-07-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan and Lois,

I don't have the 1.3 version any more, either. Anyhow, I am not sure if you
saw my message, but I did write to Sparkling Apps, the developer of Talking
Goggles and received a reply 5 minutes later in which they said they would
look into this. Let's give them a chance to do so, I saw a lot of complaints
from people saying it wasn't working any more, but it appears nobody thought
that maybe this should be brought to the attention of the developer or at
least nobody said they had written to them. If anybody wants to add their
voice to mine, you can send an email to supp...@sparklingapps.com.

your phone straight up and down, the camera lenz is on the back top
right-hand corner not in the middle of the phone. That takes some getting
use to. /The second thing I had to learn was to move the phone near or
farther away from what I was trying to get goggles to describe to me. It's
not just a point and shoot like tap tap see is. I use it on my washing
machine and dryer. They both have electronic controls and a LCD screen.
Now add to that, trying to get a description on a washing machine that's
shaking side to side making the screen shake and yet if I play with talking
goggles enough, I can usually get it to tell me what I need to know but it
can also take 10 minutes of fooling around too. It is not a point and shoot
app but with patients and exparimentation it does work as advertised.

RE: goggles problem

2013-07-01 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi Sieghar,

I have to agree with you that Talking Goggles worked terrifically when JAWS
or WE stopped working and I needed to trouble shoot the monitor to see what
Windows was screaming about. Oh well!!! There is always VizWiz and TapTapSee
to fall back on, as well as using Skyping a friend. I'll just have to get
creative or wait for my husband for sighted assistance, but it is so nice to
not be dependent upon others to perform simple tasks.

Sieghard

I thought I backed up Talking Goggles 1.3 in iTunes, but no such luck. I'm
jealous. I did write an email to the developers, but it was before I read
the latest thread that stated that they are working on it. I'll just have to
be patient and wait for the new update.

Hm. I have an iPhone 4 and talking goggles works very well for me. No, it
doesn't just start talking. It takes some playing with to learn how to use it.
The first thing I had to learn was holding my phone. As you hold your phone
straight up and down, the camera lenz is on the back top right-hand corner not
in the middle of the phone. That takes some getting use to. /The second thing
I had to learn was to move the phone near or farther away from what I was
trying to get goggles to describe to me. It's not just a point and shoot like
tap tap see is. I use it on my washing machine and dryer. They both have
electronic controls and a LCD screen. Now add to that, trying to get a
description on a washing machine that's shaking side to side making the screen
shake and yet if I play with talking goggles enough, I can usually get it to
tell me what I need to know but it can also take 10 minutes of fooling around
too. It is not a point and shoot app but with patients and exparimentation it
does work as advertised.

Goggles had a new update, version 1.4, which came out about June 17th. Is
this when the problems began? You might want to roll back to version 1.3 if
you kept a backup.

Hm. I have an iPhone 4 and talking goggles works very well for me. No,
it doesn't just start talking. It takes some playing with to learn how to
use it. The first thing I had to learn was holding my phone. As you hold
your phone straight up and down, the camera lenz is on the back top
right-hand corner not in the middle of the phone.
It is not a point and shoot
app but with patients and exparimentation it does work as advertised.

an unknow.
I tried turning voiceover off, but no go.
Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?

I listened to the applevis podcast on googles and saw how it should
work
ane also speak. But, mine isn't doing any of that.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I can try to make the thing work?

Other picture apps such as taptapsee work fine.

Thanks for any help or suggestions,

Don

Hi Don, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app? Sometimes this
will work. Perhaps also turning your iPhone off for a few minutes, and then
restarting it might help. God bless, Wren

Hi, I installed goggles last night and have been trying to get it to
work. Usine an i4s with latest version of ios 6. I see there is a
 free
version and a 99 cent version, so I got the 99 cent version.

The install went fine and the program runs, but I do not get any male
voice at all and I can't seem to get it to identify anything, not even

 Don

Sounds like maybe some sort of program issue which only shows up with
specific configurations.

That, or a setting on the phone which is set incorrectly.
Just guesses though.

Re: goggles problem

2013-06-29 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hello,

For the most part, Talking Googles will crash and bump me back to the main
screen. I then need to reopen it. My best results have been when I needed it to
read the computer screen. May be it became broken with the last update. I still
have the last version in iTunes. I'll try to see if that clears up the app.
