When I set up face ID on my iPhone 13 pro max, it was quite easy.
Voice over was great at telling me if the phone was to close to my face or not

hi Carla,
You may need to go into the Face ID and passcode settings and turn off the
require a tension feature. This feature, when turned off, does not require your
eyesight to be directed at the phone. Most people, I believe, with visual
difficulties turn this off., I hope this helps.
Best, Keith

I am totally blind and have set up facial ID on an 11 and a 14 Pro. I had no
problems. Just extend your arm about a foot from your face. Hold your phone to
the level of it being centered with your face. You will be instructed turn face
to right, left, up down, I can't remember, but just keep doing what it says to
do, and it will get your face in there. Turn off Attention Mode if it is on,
which is located in the Voiceover settings.

RE: Passcode & Face ID Question

2023-03-03 Thread Carolyn
I am totally blind and have set up facial ID on an 11 and a 14 Pro. I had no
problems. Just extend your arm about a foot from your face. Hold your phone to
the level of it being centered with your face. You will be instructed turn face
to right, left, up down, I can't remember, but just keep doing what it says to
do, and it will get your face in there. Turn off Attention Mode if it is on,
which is located in the Voiceover settings.

I just got my iPhone 14 yesterday. I went to this phone from the SE3. I can
do all of the gestures such as finding the app switcher and closing apps, etc.
The only thing I cannot do is have the phone accept my facial ID which I had
someone help me set up. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this work
because I do not want to go back to the SE3. I’m even learning to use the
power button rather than using a home button. I love the speakers and the
stereo sound when playing music. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, with
attention aware, you have to make eye contact with the screen v. just look in

hi Carla,

You may need to go into the Face ID and passcode settings and turn off the
require a tension feature. This feature, when turned off, does not require your
eyesight to be directed at the phone. Most people, I believe, with visual
difficulties turn this off., I hope this helps.

Re: passcode question

2020-06-19 Thread Vicki W.
Hi,

Just in case anyone ever needs to use the regular Apple support, He called
yesterday, and after 20 tries to set up his ID and over 90 minutes on the
phone, Apple support fixed the problem. They were very patient. He ended up
having to set up his ID on the computer and then adding it to the phone. They
never did figure out why he had the problem, but they fixed the issue.

First, I think you meant 4 minutes, not 4 hours.
If you have a phone with a home button, setup touch ID, and it will
primarily ask for the passcode after you reboot it, but if you just lock it and
come back later, the finger print will unlock it.
If you have a phone with no home button, setup Face ID.
Same thing, if you don't reboot the phone, you should be able to unlock it
with the face ID.

Let me start over. My mistake.

The phone is set to never lock. Passcode is set to use after 4 hours. So, if
the phone is locked manually, and it stays locked more than four hours, the
passcode is needed. Can it be changed to not need it if the phone is locked
without turning it off?

It's not my phone so I'm probably not explaining it very well.

First, I think you meant 4 minutes, not 4 hours.
If you have a phone with a home button, setup touch ID, and it will primarily
ask for the passcode after you reboot it, but if you just lock it and come back
later, the finger print will unlock it.
If you have a phone with no home button, setup Face ID.
Same thing, if you don't reboot the phone, you should be able to unlock it with
the face ID.

RE: passcode question

2020-06-18 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Vicki,

The way you can prevent from unlocking your phone so much is to create either a
fingerprint or face ID whichever your phone has. The only time I have to enter
my passcode is when I first restart my phone.

Hope this helps,

Jenn

Re: passcode question

2020-06-18 Thread Vicki W.

Re: Passcode issues

2018-11-23 Thread Marie N.
Actually, I think my biggest problem is a lack of patience. The face ID is
getting better for me. Part of it is learning how to hold the phone so that it
is really directed at your face and yes, I too learned that often, just doing
the Home gesture causes the feature to work. I really do like the phone over
all and it took practice to get the gestures so I am sure the face ID will be
the same.

Hi Marie,

I’m sorry to hear about your problems with the face id. I had the same
problem, and wow, can that be annoying! It was actually driving me crazy! Did
you ever call Apple? If so, can I ask you what they told you? Have you tried
going back to the home screen when the face id doesn’t work, and when it
continuously asks for your passcode? I now find when it asks me for my pass
code, and if I swipe up from the very bottom of the screen just a little until
I feel the first vibration, and lift my finger, I can then try the face id
option again, and the majority of the time it will unlock the phone. I’ve also
noticed if I hold my phone up to my face with my left hand, the phone will not
unlock, but if I hold up the phone with my right hand, I have a much better
chance of unlocking the phone. Strange I know, but it is what it is! Smile!

Matter of fact, I also had a difficult time when I was setting up face id
myself, I was setting up the face id feature holding the phone in my left hand,
and VO kept telling me face id is not available on this device, so I thought ok
I’m going to try this for the fourth time, and I used my right hand then, and
sure enough, the face id feature was accepted. Who knows, but I must not be
holding the phone directly in front of my face when using my left hand. Go

marie,

there are issues that tech could drive nerves out of us.

i suggest for you to go to apple store near your home and ask technician
to help you with face id. if it is getting too hard, the best thing ti
do is to use passcode to enter four or six numbers. i wouldn't waste
time struggling and frustrate myself out of it.

some people talked about face ids as they say about with/without false

with wild ideas why face ids are putting issues. some said they believe
face ids are based of face mood.

2018-11-22 Thread SoonerAnnie
My problem is that since the latest IOS update, my IPhone 8 often doesn't
recognize my fingerprint and makes me enter my password, which is incredibly
annoying! It used to be really reliable with the two fingerprints I set up, but
now, I never know when it's going to work and when it isn't. A couple of days
ago I deleted my fingerprints and re-entered them, but that hasn't helped much.
Disappointing for sure.

RE: Passcode issues

2018-11-22 Thread janet gross
Hi Marie,
I’m sorry to hear about your problems with the face id.
Go
figure. Smile! I would like to know how your phone is now working though.

It seems to recognize the fingerprint fairly consistently but even so, the
constant need to use the finger print or the passcode is too demanding. I no
longer ever take the 6S out of the house so I have turned the passcode off on
that phone. But I recently got an IPhone X and if not in decent light, the face
ID does not work and it seems that it requires a code or ID every time the
screen locks and this is ridiculous. If no one has any ideas, I will call

In the past, as I remember it, you only needed to enter the passcode when
powering up or after around 40 minutes of inactivity. Now it seems I have to
enter the darn thing constantly. Is there any setting that will reduce the need
to enter the code so often? In the passcode setting there is a section about
when it is required and the one and only option is “immediately”. why is that
the only selection and is there any way to change it?
Please help me with this before I lose my mind totally. LOL

Same here but I listened to a podcast from the Blind side and mosen says not to
move your head too slowly and that you will get slightly better results if
going faster. I tried that on the alternate Id and (fingers crossed) it seems
to be more consistent.

Face ID has been finicky for me so far. I’ll probably try to redo the face
scanning thing after I shut things down for today. That said, when it works,
lighting has no baring. I’ve even made squishy faces on purpose. I’ve yawned
while unlocking my phone. Continued to talk when unlocking and when it works,
none of these actions impede it from working. My experience so far is that in
general it’s simply not consistent. Again though, it could just be a bad
initial scan.

Yes I know what you say about the security is correct and I will try to reset
the face ID so perhaps I get a better result. It just seems like when there is
plenty of light, it works well but when I am in my office, especially in the
evening, it is very unreliable. I did go in this morning and put in what they
call an alternate face ID and will check it out today. Maybe this will solve
the Id issue. If I can get that to work better, it will be a nice relief. I
suspect part of my impatience is due to the added new gesture for the home
button and learning which to do first. LOL!

Hi Marie,

You are mistaken about Face Id requiring good lighting, in fact, it works in
total darkness.

Also, if you are asking about whether a passcode or Face Id or Touch Id are
required to unlock your phone each time then the answer is yes if you have
enabled passcode/Touch Id or passcode/Face Id. It would hardly be a security
feature if you could set it so it would only ask you once an hour or something
like that.

The reason for Touch Id on the older phones and Face Id on the new ones is so
you don't have to enter a passcode each time and to make it easier to unlock
your phone.

Yes, you can turn the feature off completely, but this also prevents you from
using Apple Pay, it means that you can't use Touch Id or Face Id to
authenticate app store purchases so you will have to enter your Apple Id
password instead of just putting your finger on the home button or looking at
the phone.

Furthermore, if your phone is ever stolen or lost anybody can access your
information on the phone and, what is more, there is no barrier to a thief to
simply wipe the phone and sell it or use it him or herself. At least with a
passcode along with either Touch Id or Face Id this is not possible.

Re: Passcode issues

2018-11-20 Thread Marie N.
If no one has any ideas, I will call
accessibility tomorrow and see what they might suggest.

Hello Marie,

I have not noticed that my phone asks me for a passcode more than before. Is it
maybe that your fingerprint is not recognized?

In the past, as I remember it, you only needed to enter the passcode when
powering up or after around 40 minutes of inactivity. Now it seems I have to
enter the darn thing constantly. Is there any setting that will reduce the need
to enter the code so often? In the passcode setting there is a section about
when it is required and the one and only option is “immediately”. why is that
the only selection and is there any way to change it?

Please help me with this before I lose my mind totally. LOL

Thanks,

Marie

I think the choice called “Standard typing” will work the way you want. You

Re: Passcode question

2017-06-22 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
If you put in a passcode without a fingerprint than yes each time you wake the
phone you will need to put it in. If you set up touch id with your fingerprint
you will only need to put in your passcode when you turn your phone off and on
again. The only other time you should have to use your passcode is when you
update iOS.

You only have to put the passcode in when you power on as long as you have your
fingerprint ID established. The only time you truly have to put the passcode in
is when you power on the phone like you said. Hope this helps.

RE: passcode and touch id

2013-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Don,

As several others pointed out, you cannot use Touch ID without a Passcode.
You can use a Passcode and not setup the Touch ID, but not vice versa. In
fact, if you set up Touch ID, you still have to unlock your phone for the
first time using the passcode if you ever do a restart. You also will be
prompted to enter your passcode to unlock the phone if your fingerprint
didn't get recognized 3 times in a row.

Hi,

The Touch ID won't work without a passcode. That's because you need a

Re: passcode and touch id

Hello. You have to use a pass code with touch ID. When touch ID does not
work, the phone will ask you to input your passcode. Also, the phone will
require a passcode from time to time to renew your touch ID. Especially for
App Store purchases. Hope this helps.

Re: passcode and touch id

2013-12-05 Thread ROBERT CARTER
Hi Don,

Without a passcode, touch id is not needed. You would simply use the unlock
icon to unlock the phone. Touch ID is away to use a passcode without having to
actually enter the passcode manually.

Re: passcode, I have not password in this iPhone?

2013-10-26 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi Sandy
Well, that I did to fix this issue is this.
1. connect the USB cord of my iPhone 4 to my computer.
2. with the Dot connector disconnected of my iPhone 4, press the home button,
and connect the dot connector in my iPhone 3. Hold pressing the home button,
until iTunes says something like iTunes detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
Then iTunes will start to make questions.
This process also restore the iPhone as factory settings, or from a back up.
It deleted everything of my iPhone 4, and just I had to restore it, and my
iPhone is going to be activated today by my friend.
Thanks Sandy, and thanks for all and every one.

  Hi Pablo,
I am not sure about this but… try plugging your iPhone for into the power
then hold the sleep and home buttons down for at least 30 seconds. You have to
hold them down together long enough so that you hear the iPhone beginning to
talk to you again. This is different from the normal reset of holding them down
for maybe 10 seconds. I have the impression, from previous posts on this list,
that this might get you past the password issue. You will be asked if you wish
to restore the phone from backup or restore as the new iPhone. I would suggest
that you choose the second and restore as a new phone. If you are asked for a
password, I think, that you would need to use your Apple ID and not any other
type of password. I have to admit, I haven't tried this myself, not having your
problems. But worth a try…

  Good luck,
  Sandy.

  Hi all.

In my old iPhone 4, my friend asked me to reset or restore the iPhone
again. Well, When I connect the iPhone 4 to my computer it says that mi iPhone
can not be connected to this computer because it has a password in there. I
should type the password, before try to connect my iPhone 4 with iTunes. The
problem is that I never give a password to this iPhone, and the password that I
have in my iPhone 5s is not working in this iPhone 4. What can I do to fix this
access problem to my old iPhone when it ask me a password that I never gave?

2013-10-25 Thread Pablo Morales
Yeah Grant. You are right. I spoke to apple, and they told me to do a recovery
process. With the recovery I reset passcodes, and everything. Now I got my old
iPhone ready to be on my friend hands.
Thanks Grant.

  Pablo,

I'm almost positive that you're being asked for a restrictions passcode. At
some point I am guessing you went into settings>general>restrictions and set
one up-you can use this feature to restrict things like explicit language in
Siri, and explicit content from the iTunes Store. A restrictions passcode
remains even if you restore from a backup that previously had a restrictions
passcode.

If you can remember the restrictions passcode, enter it when erasing your
iPhone. If you can't, follow the instructions here to place your iPhone in
recovery mode and restore it that way: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212

Re: passcode, I have not password in this iPhone?

2013-10-25 Thread Pablo Morales

Hi Sieghard.
Yes, this iPhone 4 is for my friend.
and yes, restoring the iPhone 4 will do that I want. even though, when I
connect the iPhone 4 to my computer, iTunes says that the iPhone can not be
connected, and I have to entry a passcode. In my iPhone 4 appears the sign
of entry your passcode, and it is numeric., but I never applied a passcode
to this iPhone.
So I am not able to restore my old iPhone 4, because iTunes says that I need
to type the passcode in my iPhone, and because of that, it can not be
connected.
I don't know why my old iPhone 4 is doing it, I guess it is jealous because
the new iPhone 5s. Even though, I have not idea what to do, it is the first
time that I see this kind of things in my iPhone. I typed the passcode of my
iPhone 5s, and it didn't work. I typed the passcode of my iPhone 4, a
passcode that I used a long time ago, and it didn't work. Help

Hi Pablo,

I thought you are giving this iPhone to somebody else? Why not just
restore

it so it sits at the setup screen and then let the new owner do their own
thing, chances are they want to set up their own Apple Id.

If it is a 4-digit numeric code then it is a "passcode" not a "password".
This has nothing to do with your Apple ID unless somehow by signing up the
old 4 on your Apple ID the passcode was synced via iCloud, but I didn't
think it would do this.
Anyhow, Fanus in South Africa said he had the same problem, he opted not
to
use a passcode during the setup process and later on it asked for one. I
can
only assume that this is some sort of bug, of course it's a bad bug if
this
really happens since if you don't choose a passcode and then it asks for
one

you have no idea.
Anyhow, I would just hook it to iTunes and restore it again, then when
it's

finished just give it to you rfriend.
There are so many variables here that it is really hard to say for sure
what

is happening.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Ana.
Nope, it is a numeric pass, and it is of 4 digits. Even though, i think
that

it is a problem with the apple iD, because of these; 1. When I setup my
iphone 5s, I had my iPhone 4 off, and restored.
2. Later when i finished the restore in my iPhone 4, I use the same apple
account that I have in my iPhone 5s. Later I turned off my iphone 4.
3. Today I tried to use the iPhone 4, without cell provider, and the
password appeared. i never gave a password to that iPhone 4.
4. I signed out of apple account in my computer, and later I started to
get

the following problems.
4.1. I am not able to create another apple account, to be use in my iPhone
4.
4.2. I am not able to get my email from my iphone 5s.
So i think that something is happening with the access. More over my
iPhone

4 says iPhone disable.
Help!!!

RE: passcode, I have not password in this iPhone?

2013-10-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Pablo,

I thought you are giving this iPhone to somebody else? Why not just restore
it so it sits at the setup screen and then let the new owner do their own
thing, chances are they want to set up their own Apple Id.

If it is a 4-digit numeric code then it is a "passcode" not a "password".
This has nothing to do with your Apple ID unless somehow by signing up the
old 4 on your Apple ID the passcode was synced via iCloud, but I didn't
think it would do this.
Anyhow, Fanus in South Africa said he had the same problem, he opted not to
use a passcode during the setup process and later on it asked for one. I can
only assume that this is some sort of bug, of course it's a bad bug if this
really happens since if you don't choose a passcode and then it asks for one
you have no idea.
Anyhow, I would just hook it to iTunes and restore it again, then when it's
finished just give it to you rfriend.
There are so many variables here that it is really hard to say for sure what
is happening.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Ana.
Nope, it is a numeric pass, and it is of 4 digits. Even though, i think that
it is a problem with the apple iD, because of these; 1.
4. I signed out of apple account in my computer, and later I started to get
the following problems.
4.1. I am not able to create another apple account, to be use in my iPhone
4.
4.2. I am not able to get my email from my iphone 5s.
So i think that something is happening with the access. More over my iPhone

One of the things I really like about hand writing your pass code is that Voice
Over does not announce the numbers I am drawing, and, I have got extremely good
at writing them very small on the screen, as such, someone sighted does not,
when looking over my shoulder, get the idea from my hand movements what I am
writing.

Yes, when you are using advanced passcode entry, you have to hit ok. This is
because, the passcode entry length is variable.

Re: Passcode entry with handwriting

2013-10-14 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Is the longer password also a fixed length? Since the simple password is
exactly 4 digits, the pass code app knows when you're finished entering
your pass code. If the non-simple pass code is variable length then it
needs some way of knowing when you're done entering the pass code.

Re: Passcode entry with handwriting

2013-10-14 Thread Harry Bell
Thank you all for your replies from far away! I too am puzzled as I have tried
over and over entering the passcode numbers via keypad or handwriting and after
the final digit I wait and wait and nothing happens - until I tap OK when I
succeed in getting to my home page. Could it be because I have a six digit
passcode rather than 4? Even with touch ID the passcode is required when
restarting phone. And a 3 finger swipe right after entering numbers has no
effect.

Re: Passcode entry with handwriting

Success' I changed my pass code to a simple 4 digit one and now it does work as
you all describe! How odd that a more secure longer passcode requires the ok
button to be pressed! Thank you all!

RE: Passcode entry with handwriting

2013-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Harry,

Peter is correct, if you enter/write the numbers correctly the phone will
unlock as soon as you enter the last number just as is the case if you enter
the numbers on the keypad. If it doesn't do that it must not recognize one
or more of your numbers and I bet if you checked the screen or ask a sighted
person to look it would say that an incorrect passcode was entered. Make
sure you don't turn on to wipe the phone after 10 unsuccessful attempts!
Anyhow, if you have a 5S, why not set up fingerprints? Of course it's still
important to know your passcode and to be able to enter it either on the
keypad or with handwriting, but while my 5S won't be here for a few more
days, everything I read and heard was that it works extremely well and it
will certainly become my primary way to unlock my phone.

Sieghard

I'm trying to learn to use voiceover but can't find out what to do after
writing the last nber of my passcode. I use the rotor to turn on handwriting
on the lock screen and my 5s recognises my numbers. A sighted person would
then tap the OK button but I have no idea what gesture will activate ok on
the pass code screen and google has not helped. Any ideas, folks?

Re: Passcode entry with handwriting

2013-10-10 Thread Denny Schwab
I would try a three-finger swipe right. This is the same as hitting
the return key. If that doesn't work you could always use the router
to go to another mode, like word, and then swipe to the return or ok
button.
