hi, sorry I am late to this question but, I thought someone (Richard) maybe? I thought he said that if the message is from someone within your contacts the report screen will not show up. I have not tested this. It would make since that you would only want to report spam messages to your carrier and apple though I am not sure wht htey can do to reduse it. B. J. RE: deleting text messages
For me there is absolutely no difference between deleting messages in iOS 15 and 16, but as I said, I don't get the prompt to report as spam. Having said this I think it would be nice if the user could choose whether they want the prompt whether you really want to delete the conversation or not especially now when it is possible to recover deleted messages in iOS 16. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Carolyn Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2022 10:25 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: deleting text messages It seems more of a hassle to delete messages in iOS 16. RE: deleting text messages
Here's what I do. First, open the conversation and get VoiceOver to focus on the message you want to delete. Now flick up or down and double tap on the more option to select that message. You can now hit the delete button at the bottom of the screen to delete that message or you can move up and down your message list and double tap to select multiple messages before double tapping that delete key. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) =>÷ Chaltain at Outlook, USA From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Andy Baracco Sent: Monday, October 17, 2022 5:31 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: deleting text messages When I attempt to delete a text message I am asked if I want to delete the conversation. RE: clarification regarding deleting text messages
Oops! I have no idea how that came from my old email address. My only excuse is that I’m not all that used to using outlook yet. Hope this one comes from the correct Gmail address. From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of v-coll...@sbcglobal.net Sent: Monday, September 26, 2022 1:30 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: clarification regarding deleting text messages I thought I would clarify something I said regarding text messages when we were having the VoiceOver bug before updating to iOS 16.0.2. I kind of added the comment as a kind of addition to my VO issue, so perhaps it wasn't noticed all that much, but I figured I would correct things just in case. If memory serves, I had said that I had rebooted one of my phones when I deleted a text message on my other phone, as that was the only way I could get the one unread message badge to disappear on the phone on which I had not deleted the message. That was indeed true as far as it went, but when I thought about it more, I finally figured out my issue. As you may recall, not having a separate internet service, I have two cell phone lines, and I have it set to have the text messages sent to each number also forwarded to the other number. And in the past, when I deleted a message on one, it would also delete on the other phone, even if I saw enough of the message, or sometimes the entire message depending on its length, such that I knew what was in the message and thus could just delete the message without actually having to open it. With iOS 16, though, to make that badge go away on the phone where I haven't read and deleted the message, I do actually have to open the message on the other phone before I delete it. Then when I open a message on one phone, then that unread badge also goes away on the other phone. Oh, and one more thing while I'm at it. You know how you get that report as junk prompt when you delete a message? If I delete the text on the phone to which it was actually sent, then I do indeed get that prompt. However, should I opt to delete the message on the phone to which it was forwarded, although the message goes away just the same on both phones, I don't get the report as junk prompt when deleting from that other phone. Hope this all makes sense, and of course I do have text messages turned on in iCloud. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: problem with deleting text messages
I am not sure why this is, I have received a couple of messages which were not in my contacts and I could delete them as always, flick down to delete and double tap it, the I was asked if I really wanted to do that and once I confirmed that was it, no message or prompt to report them as spam or anything like that. Thank goodness, Jim was here and able to help me. Otherwise, I have no idea in the world what a solution would have been. I think they surely will work some of these bugs out pretty soon, especially if enough of us bug them. I might try to find out where to email my complaint about the Voiceover problem I'm having while on a phone call. So, if I need to give a phone number to someone, I have to struggle to hear anything in my contacts to try to find the contact, and then the number. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Donna Casteen Sent: Thursday, September 15, 2022 4:22 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: problem with deleting text messages Carolyn, You will need a sighted person to enter your phone passcode for you. RE: problem with deleting text messages
My problem is that I receive lots of text messages from my volunteer work. I can’t and I don’t want to put these numbers in my contacts. Before this update I deleted them delete, but now I have to tap once more to not report as junk. They are lots and lots, more time consuming and more pain in my finger. Re: problem with deleting text messages
Thanks for the suggestion but I’ve tried that to no avail.I have now managed to remove it by launching Messages and double tapping Edit.Double tapping Recent Messages and deleting the conversation from there. Once the conversation was deleted the particular message went too.I have never had this issue before but hope this explanation may help someone.Malcolm ParfittOn 15 Sep 2022, at 15:53, regina alvarado wrote:I had this problem with a message to. Re: problem with deleting text messages
I think I misunderstood you. If a message comes in and it’s not in your contacts, it will then ask you if you want to delete it and send it to another box so that you don’t have to put up with spam. if someone knew contacts me that it’s not in my contacts and it’s not spam I automatically put them in my contacts. That’s the way to clear that particular problem off.Reggie Alvarado On Sep 15, 2022, at 10:09 AM, Rena wrote:In the previous version, it didn’t ask me this question. Go to settings and then go to where it says messages and then go to the heading that says message history and then you’ll see a button that you can toggle on where you can actually delete after a certain amount of days or keep forever and later on there’s a heading that says audio it’s the same deal as well. Agreed. Maybe they will consider adding an option to not have to confirm… Time will tell. Richard "He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself,” and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds among peoples. As Jenny said, update to 11.1 where this bug was fixed. 11.1 is a critical update for anybody who has updated to iOS 11 and is still on 11.0, 11.0.1, 11.0.2 or 11.0.3. RE: Deleting text messages in 11.0.1
Unfortunately with text messages there is no way to recover them. You do use the Edit button, after that double tap each message or conversation you want to delete, Voiceover will say that message is "selected". If you have say 10 messages and you double tap on 4 of them these will be selected, then tap on the Delete button at the bottom and these 4 messages get deleted. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Agent086b Sent: Friday, September 29, 2017 3:44 PM To: iPhone List > <viphone@googlegroups.com> Subject: Deleting text messages in 11.0.1 Hi all, I read something about this in the past but can’t remember the solution. Sieghard and others have also posted similar instructions. You have several options. First, when in your list of threads, you can swipe to a thread and then flick down. You'll hear delete and if you double tap you'll delete that thread. On that same screen, you can double tap the edit button at the top of the screen. Now you can double tap each thread to select it and delete the selected threads by using the delete button at the bottom of the screen. If you open a thread by double tapping it then you can use the roter to get to the Action option and flick down until you hear more. Double tap and you'll have a button to delete that message and a delete all button at the top of the screen to delete the whole thread. I hope this all makes sense. Just ask if it doesn't. RE: Deleting text messages and contacts
Hi Don, For your first question on how to delete a contact. You have to double tap on edit. Then flick right until you hear delete contact. You may have to play around to get it. The next question is how to delete text messages. All you have to do is flick down to the conversation then flick down. It should say delete. If not, use your roter and turn to actions. You will delete the whole conversations so be prepared. The last question is what the term buddy means. It just means the other party who is talking with you. So you will hear your conversation, then the buddy is the other person who responds to you. RE: Deleting text messages and contacts
Hi Donald, To delete a Contact: Go into Contacts Find the Contact you want to delete and double tap on it Now find the Edit button at the top right of the screen Now do a 4-finger tap on the bottom half on the phone, this is the gesture which takes you to the last screen element which is the Delete Contact button. Note: Sometimes the 4-finger tap may stop just short of that, if you are not on the Delete Contact button just swipe right until you get to it or you could just swipe right all the way to begin with until you find it. As I said, if you are in the Contacts app, it will be the very last thing on the screen once you are in Edit mode. As far as deleting text messages is concerned, if you are running iOS 6 you could just use the new method to delete emails, text messages, songs etc. If you are in the main window of the Messages app just flick down or up with a single finger and you should hear Voiceover say Delete, now just double tap anywhere on the screen. If you don't want to use this gesture, there is a difference whether you delete an entire conversation or whether you want to delete individual messages in a conversation. In order to delete an entire conversation, make sure you are in the main list of conversations and that you are not in a conversation which will be the case if you double tap on it. Find the Edit button in this case it is at the top left of the screen. You know you are on the right screen if you have the Compose button at the top right. Once you double tap on Edit, a Delete switch button appears beside each conversation. Double tap on it and you will be asked to confirm, double tap again and the conversation is gone. Once you deleted all the conversations you want to delete, double tap on Done at the top left of the screen. Basically, the Edit button will become the Done button when you double tap it and when you double tap Done it will once again turn into Edit. If you want to only delete individual messages, double tap on the Conversation so you are on the screen where you can read the individual messages. Buddy message, by the way, refers to any message you receive from another person whether it is an iMessage or regular text message. If it is an iMessage, your own messages will be identified as Your iMessage, if it is a text message, it will be Your text message. Any reply is always Buddy message. Now you have an Edit button at the top left of the screen (opposite from where it is when you delete entire conversations). Now double tap on all the individual messages, both your own and the buddy messages, you want to delete. Voiceover will say selected before each one after you double tap it. Let's say you do this for 5 messages, now check the bottom left of the screen and you will find Delete, 5 button. Double tap this and those messages will be deleted from the conversation. There is also a Clear All button at the top left of the screen after you double tap on Edit. This will clear all messages from a conversation, but it will leave the entry for that person in your Conversations list. Re: Deleting text messages
Also there is a clear all button at the top left of the screen and slightly down the left side of the screen. This button is in the main screen of the messages app. It will delete all threads and all messages. I believe there is also the same button with in a conversation that will delete just that thread. - Original Message - From: dan To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, February 08, 2013 3:02 PM Subject: RE: Deleting text messages You don't need to turn the roter. Re: Deleting text messages
If I go into the Messages app, and bring up the message thread for a particular person, then I can't use the Actions item in the roter to delete a specific message. It just isn't there. If, however, I'm in the messages app, and I'm looking at the list of people who've sent me messages, I can find the Actions option in the roter and delete the messages from a particular user.
