Little Snitch Removal

Following your comments (corrupt files on Mac) I have advised my Grand-Daughter
to remove Little Snitch from her iMac. She says that she can only find Little
Snitch Configuration in applications. Will removing this using Clean App be
sufficient or should she remove anything else?

Hi Barry,

Absolutely no reason to apologise, you have not wasted anyone’s time on WAMUG.
I’m still not sure if the Uninstaller with Little Snitch deletes all the
associated files.
I posted some time back saying this below:

/Begin Quote:
But, if you want to uninstall, use an application like AppZapper (which is not
free) http://www.appzapper.com/ or AppCleaner (free)

did in previous versions.
It did leave some files on your Mac even after you used the Uninstaller.

I prefer using AppZapper to delete any applications.”
/End Quote.

If you have already uninstalled Little Snitch, make sure you reboot your
computer after and then check if any of these files are still on the computer.
These were the files I knew Little Snitch 2.0.3 installed on the system (I
don’t know what version Little Snitch is now.

Below is what I posted also back awhile ago:
/Begin Quote:
This is a list of every file that Little Snitch 2.0.3 would have installed on
your system.
While I believe the list to be complete, if anyone discovers other files I have
missed, please post a follow up with the path to the file.

Note that lines ending with a '/' represent directories that contain one or
more files which are only part of Little Snitch. Note further that the '~'
symbol represents your home directory. Finally, note that the directory marked
with '(*)' contains the Little Snitch registration files, including a hidden
file (.lsd) that will not show up in a Finder window. Removing this directory
will, however, remove all traces of your registration from your system.

~/Library/Application Support/Little Snitch/
~/Library/Logs/Little Snitch Installer.log
~/Library/Logs/Little Snitch Network Monitor.log
~/Library/Logs/Little Snitch UIAgent.log
~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchConfiguration.plist
~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchNetworkMonitor.plist

After removing the above directories, you will need to reboot your machine in
order to boot a new kernel that does not contain the Little Snitch kernel
extension. That is, unless you know how to use the kextunload(8) command from
the command line to do it manually.

Re: re Little Snitch Removal

2011-06-21 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi again Barry,

I’ve found some more files the uninstaller of Little Snitch doesn’t remove.

The uninstallation procedure does not delete any user specific settings such as
preferences and your Little Snitch rules. This allows you to re-install Little
Snitch later, with all your previous settings already in place.

If you wish to remove these settings as well, you have to delete the following
files and folders:

/Library/Application Support/Objective Development/Little Snitch/
~/Library/Application Support/Little Snitch/
~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchConfiguration.plist
~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchNetworkMonitor.plist
~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchInstaller.plist

The “~” tilde sign refers to your home folder.

Hi Ronni,

Thanks for that information. I had a trial of Snowtape on my Mac, but
did not end up buying it. Since then, when opening a video file,
Snowtape immediately takes preference (even though I did not give my
permission). I deleted the file using Amnesia. However, now it
appears to open whenever I open a video or audio file (it does not
function though) - I cannot rid myself of the remnants of this
program. Have you any magical formula ?

Thanks

Re: re Little Snitch Removal

2011-06-21 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Jewels,

I’ve never heard of Snowtape … but a Google search found this information:

To uninstall Snowtape you first have to move Snowtape from the Applications
folder to the trash.
Several other documents must also be deleted from your computer:

The Snowtape Library in the Documents folder of your home directory:
~/Documents/Snowtape Library,

The Snowtape preferences you'll find in Library/Preferences in your home
directory:
~/Library/Preferences/com.vemedio.Snowtape.plist

The RadioURL Internet Plug-In located in Library/Internet Plug-Ins in your home
directory:
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/RadioURL.bundle

The launch agent configuration file located in Library/LaunchAgents in your
home directory:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vemedio.Snowtape.RadioAgent.plist

Then restart your Mac and empty the trash afterwards.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Ronni ( Bob)

Thank you Ronni, you are a gem - have finally got rid of Snowtape and
the added bonus, also
Little Snitch. I never thought of checking with the web for
uninstalling instructions. I had presumed
Amnesia would have removed an application completely, but alas not the
case. Perhaps I'll have

a look at the two suggested programs you mentioned.

Thank you again

Now being a completely electronic purchase there is nothing to import per-se so

HTTPS Error: Request Entity Too Large

2011-06-21 Thread Alan Smith

I receive an error message when submitting a web form: Page was not displayed
because the request entity is too large. Any suggestions as to where the
cause of the problem may be?

I was attempting to complete a 3-step web form for a Myer extended warranty.
Step two requires details including a proof of purchase attachment of less than
4MB. My PDF scan of the receipt is 586KB. Process halts when I press Step
3 - Confirmation. After a period of inactivity I receive the above error
message. Google suggested it is HTTPS 413.

I am using Safari 5.0.5. I have previously submitted web forms with larger
attachments successfully (to a State Govt department) so it MAY not be my iMac
or ISP.

the supply to which the amount relates. If the rate of GST payable changes
before the licensed Product is downloaded, the new tax rate in effect at the
time of download will apply and the total amount payable will be increased or
decreased so the economic benefit to Apple remains the same, irrespective of
the change in rate of GST. No customers are eligible for tax exemptions for
transactions made on the Services.”

 Lets work it out;

 US $299 is AUD $282

 So now lets add GST

 282 + 28.2 = $310.20

Now being a completely electronic purchase there is nothing to import
per-se so to my knowledge there would be no additional taxes. So Apple is
charging an extra $38.8 just because they can.

Re: HTTPS Error: Request Entity Too Large

2011-06-21 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Alan,

This is a HTTPS 413 error.
413 - Request Entity Too Large
The server is refusing to process a request because the request entity is
larger than the server is willing or able to process. The server may close the
connection to prevent the client from continuing the request. What constitutes
'too large' depends in part by the operation being attempted.
For example a request to upload a very large file (via the HTTP PUT method) may
encounter a limitation on upload file size set by the Web server.”

You could try “Empty Cache” in Safari, then restart Safari and try the process
again, making sure you don’t have any other pages open at the time you are
trying to do the upload.

Accounting software

2011-06-21 Thread Severin Crisp
For years I have used eRecord, the ATO's free accounting package. It
is no longer supported and is a bit creaky even with Leopard. I am
looking for an alternative, looking forward to Snow Leopard and Lion.
My requirements are simple. Cash Book only covering sales,
expenditures and GST. Other packages that I have looked at, like
eRecord itself, do much more and are somewhat daunting at first glance.

Comments, suggestions and tales of experiences welcomed.

This idea has always amused me. Anyone who thinks that running anti-virus
software on a Mac can in any way reduce the spread of viruses on Windows is
either fooling themselves or trying to fool others. Windows viruses have been
spreading themselves quite happily for many years without any influence from

On the other hand, it this IS true, it does put us a pretty powerful

The ironic thing is that not even running anti-virus software on Windows has
reduced the spread of Windows viruses.

Excel 2011 assistance with chart axis dates

2011-06-21 Thread Chris Burton

Hi Muggers

Im not sure if it is ok to ask here about a charting problem I have while using
Excel 2011, but I would very much appreciate some help if possible?

I am preparing some whale sighting data for a conference presentation in few
weeks and cant seem to find how I can de-select some dates that are not in the
data (Feb 08 to June 08), but are included by excel to make the x-axis series
continuous (from sept 07 to sept 08).
The data have only been collected from sept 07 to jan 08 and then from July 08
to Sept 08.

I have been delving into the axis format using 'Scale' which only allows a max
and min value (not to deselect some in between). It does have a number of other
abilities to change the major and minor units but this does not solve the
problem.

Thanks for any help here, even some online links etc

Kind regards

Chris
