Hi Ray,

I guess you have tried the solutions found here to open documents created un a
previous version.

Documents will not open in Word 2011 if they have been created in a previous
version

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953266

1. Start Word for Mac application.
2. On the File menu, click Open.
3. In the Convert File window, scroll down and select Recover Text from any
file. You may get a warning, click OK. Note: Some formatting might change.
4. On the File menu, click Save As.
5. In the Format list, select Word Document (.docx), then click Save.

Hi all

When you get potentially dodgy emails with links in them it is
revealing to click and drag the links a little way, which shows the
real url. If it matches the link text all is probably well (though
still use your judgement)- if it's a long, complicated affair ending
in .ru you might want to avoid

am experiencing problems with SPAM.

Since WN swapped from Sophos to Ironport I am getting up to 5 or
more SPAMs daily and ALL of them are obvious SPAM (Nigerian pleas, the
Paypal one, bank ones and Viagra etc).

I complained to WN and was told that the system did not recognize
them as spam, something I find a bit hard to accept. I find Ironport
hard to use, there is no list that I can find to check what is being
blocked and I have no started to miss real emails - without knowing
it.I am getting stonewall un-informative responses from WN.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi all,

Also, just a heads up for those of you currently using Safari 3
plugins like Sogudi and AcidSearch: If you upgrade to Safari 4 and do
not first uninstall/remove these plugins you will most likely find
that Safari 4 refuses to launch. Depending on where you installed
(for one user or all), removing the following folders should get
Safari 4 up and running again:

~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL
~/Library/InputManagers/SIMBL

Sogudi is no longer supported, hence it will not work with Safari 4.
The best alternative I have found is Keywurl, although at time of
writing it appears to be awaiting an upgrade to coincide with this
latest Safari 4 release.

Re: Warning - Quicktime 7.2 will not play web based QT movies

2007-07-15 Thread Warren Jones
It's not all web based QT content but there are many reports of bugs
regarding the latest versions of QT on Apple's support forums.

http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=122

There may be some workarounds suggested in these forums that may help
you depending on your exact problem.

And if your problem is related to Flash animations
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1042462tstart=0

Looks like Apple have rushed the last couple of versions out the door.

My reason for looking and posting in the forums is I've discovered
there are also huge bugs in QT for Windows 7.2 (and slightly less so
7.1.6) esp regarding HREF tracks which I use a lot for work.
Extremely annoying for what should be a world class product that so
many people depend on!

In section 13 'Your Right To Return The Products' of the Apple Store
Terms Conditions, it gives a list of items that cannot be returned.
One of them is a personalised iPod.

Am I being cynical if I think that's why they're so keen to give away
free personalisations on iPods?

In another section detailing Dead On Arrival situations, it states that
Apple must be contacted within 10 days of the invoice date. When Apple
shipped my iPod, it took 8 days to arrive, What happens if you're away
for a couple of days. Isn't this a bit tight and unfair on WA?

Matt.

Many fans will say that Apple's Netwon was ahead of its time. In
comparison, the iPod has been a runaway success. As a result, Apple

Perhaps tcsh under OSX does things differently, but on most systems

This is actually a very interesting scenario. The short of it is: 'CD'
should /not/ work, while 'CP' /should/. Reasons as follows:

For CP, the behaviour will be highly sensitive to how your shell
performs in a situation that its author had not anticipated: namely,
that of a case-insensitive filesystem. 'CP' /should/, by rights, work
under Mac OS X machines with HFS+ filesystems because 'CP' is a valid
match for any files that is named 'cp'. /However/, most shells use a
'hashing' mechanism to avoid trawling through the entire contents of
$PATH every time you issue a command. In these circumstances, the
behaviour can vary. But, 'CP' /should/ really work.

For CD, the situation is entirely different. 'cd' is not the name of a
programme on your disk, it is the name of your shell's 'built-in'
command. Since built-in commands are not stored on the filesystem, they
are not case-insensitive like HFS+ is (unless the shell author has
anticipate the need -- unlikely for UNIX shells). Therefore, 'CD' will
probably fail.

Hi all
Using Entourage on G4 with 9.2.2
I am also getting these annoying little messages on a daily basis, usually
around 10 a day. Also getting a lot that just say 'Hi' in the subject

Is anyone else getting these?
They sometimes have a one line message that says. . . .
The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent
as a binary attachment.
The attachments have names like 'doc.scr' or 'message.zip'
Naturally I don't open anything but how do I stop these?
