currently the oldest living TAGS actress. She too was born in 1912 on November

Gotham City corrections officer handcuffed to Catwoman (Julie Newmar) at the

Mayberry Centenarian Fans

2011-05-18 Thread BRIAN RODAHAVER
At age 102, (born circa 1909) you figure these fans witnessed the evolution of
the various entertainment media from the silent era, Talkies, to the birth of
primetime episodic television in 1948. When TAGS debuted in 1960, these folks
were about 51 years old. They probably especially enjoyed 'Matlock' (1986-1995)
as Homer's father alluded to on 'The Simpsons.' What would really be impressive
would be a centenarian who is an avid collector of TAGS and a person who
actually contributed to TAGS' Nielsens. Those fans are the rara avises. A huge
percentage of TAGS fans, born during or after its production, discovered the
series AFTER its original run in syndication.

TAGS and Three's Company

Don Knotts always recollected that his 5 years on TAGS were the BEST of his

just an older extension of Barney Fife, with all of the various nervous

that John Ritter loved working with Knotts, acknowledging his comedic legend at
the time. (Remember, Barney once mentioned Ritter's dad, Tex Ritter on TAGS.)

Concerning TAGS extras, much has been noted about Tom Jacobs, Mr. Schwump, and

humorously, she dances with Barney during the tag dance before he reaches
Thelma Lou in 'Fun Girls' (4/13/1964). In the color episodes, her hair is red.
I

was so impressed, she sent him a letter as a fan. She viewed their relationship
as a brother-sister one. Nabors was used as her good luck charm for the
premiere episodes of every season of 'The Carol Burnett Show' from 1967 to

closing the show with 'The Impossible Dream', Jim comes backstage to an

Bo Hopkins, Aneta Corsaut, and Don Knotts. (Everett Greenbaum- the prolific
TAGS writer-played Judge Katz.)

BTW, James Best would have made a great guest actor on 'Matlock', given his
good performance on the Fred Silverman produced 'In the Heat of the Night.'

TAGS Camera Technique on 'Three's Company'

2010-02-18 Thread BRIAN RODAHAVER
I was watching 'Three's Company' on TVLand EARLY this morning. Ruta Lee (a two
episode TAGS vet) played the real estate agent who closed the deal when Mr.
Roper sold his apartment building. (This paved the way for Don Knotts become
the new landlord at the start of the following season.) The next 'Three's
Company' episode served as the pilot for 'The Ropers.' In exterior scenes
outside their new townhome with Mr. and Mrs. Roper seated inside their old,
beat up car, the camera work is exactly identical to how Andy and Barney were
filmed in their squad car scenes. The dialogue was read over twice to include
both camera angles/perspectives of Mr. and Mrs. Roper.

Pink Floyd/Deep Purple

2010-01-23 Thread BRIAN RODAHAVER
Jim Nabors (in character from an episode of 'Gomer Pyle USMC') can be heard in
the background of the Pink Floyd track 'In the Flesh?' from the LP 'The Wall'
(1979).

On another subject, while Thelma Lou and Otis may have never appeared
together on an episode of TAGS, Betty Lynn and Hal Smith were both special
guests at the 1989 Memphis Film Festival.

Two Chairs No Waiting

2010-01-15 Thread BRIAN RODAHAVER
I'm loving the recent podcasts of 'Two Chairs No Waiting', especially with the
behind-the-scenes camera. Nice work Allan! However, I've found myself looking
at that bookcase behind Allan trying to deceipher the memorabilia, like the
guitar on top.

Flop-Eared Mule/No Account Mule

2010-01-11 Thread BRIAN RODAHAVER
I've noticed Ben Matlock uses the word jackass pretty liberally on 'Matlock.'
I'm sure it stems from the songs 'Flop-Eared Mule' or 'No Account Mule' (a.k.a.
Muleskinner Blues). Ironically, Clarence White-formerly of 'The Country Boys'
on TAGS-formed his band 'Muleskinner' in 1973 after 'The Byrds' broke up.
