2016-09-22 Thread Daniel White
There is no 450m inventory in the channel yet. Cambium has not shipped any.

A few units will leak out next week… but it’s going to be awhile before
pre-orders are fulfilled.

I’d strongly recommend you get an order in now.

With Baltic, put the item in your cart and see if the shipping methods include
pick up at Lisle warehouse. If not, they are probably drop shipping from a
distributor or manufacturer. Who may or may not have stock.

Actually it's more nuanced than that.

Your per-subscriber speed will not change.(Assuming they haven't added a
higher-order modulation here, but I don't remember hearing that they did).

What *is* happening is that the Medusa will permit numerous simultaneous
subscriber streams at the same time, and on the same channel. My recollection
is 'up to 7 simultaneous subscribers', but I'm too lazy today to go look and
verify. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

So, assuming everything is perfect, you can get 7x the throughput in the same
channel width. Reality is never perfect, and Cambium acknowledges this as
well - the actual improvement will depend on the locations and path
characteristics of your customers. I suspect that we'll all be learning what
customer spread works the best

Haha, you said “presumed”.

And isn’t that the basis for the word “presumptuous”?

We are born into this world naked, selfish, presumptuous and entitled. Then we
start our long initiation into the real world. Some of us (known as
millennials) delay this process until about the age of 35. A select view delay
it to age 70 and run for President.

I’m sensing a lame joke in there about making a Pres of You and Me.

Re: [AFMUG] Rise Broadband Speeds

2016-09-21 Thread SmarterBroadband
I thought they were due to ship in September?

I would think testers would be allowed to speak any time soon.

2016-09-21 Thread Jaime Solorza
Back when God was a child, we worked with some Mexican banks installing
some 902-928MHz systems which used 6 antennas on base station and CPEs...
It was a Canadian outfit and they used FHSS... '93/94? We just mounted
them on towers and wired them up. The two cables per unit used military
type connectors. I think company was WLAN... Not WiLAN It was for ATM
systems.

Re: [AFMUG] Rise Broadband Speeds

2016-09-21 Thread Jeremy
Rise usually offers cancelling customers 300GB of DATA USAGE to stay (up
from their usual 250GB). If they are struggling to provide 15Mbps, how can
they offer them 300Mbps? According to this page, it is acceptable for
their 15Mbps plan to run at 2Mbps during peak times.
http://risebroadband.com/legal/open-internet-statement-and-policy/

I would think this is a case of the customer not understanding the
difference between speed and data usage.

Actually it's more nuanced than that.

Your per-subscriber speed will not change. (Assuming they haven't added a
higher-order modulation here, but I don't remember hearing that they did).

Reality is never perfect, and Cambium acknowledges this as well
- the actual improvement will depend on the locations and path characteristics
of your customers. I suspect that we'll all be learning what customer spread
works the best

interesting, 300M not posible on any 450 platform. Could be posible with LTE

Your per-subscriber speed will not change.(Assuming they haven't
added a higher-order modulation here, but I don't remember hearing
that they did).

What *is* happening is that the Medusa will permit numerous
simultaneous subscriber streams at the same time, and on the same
channel. My recollection is 'up to 7 simultaneous subscribers', but
I'm too lazy today to go look and verify. Someone can correct me if

They are advertising 300 Mbps now. Can the Medusa actually deliver that? What
PMP APs and SMs can honestly deliver that?

IIRC, it's about twice as fast as the 450i...400Mbps aggregate, with a path to
Gig.

They do have fiber in some areas now...

As well I believe Rory has success with some deployments of Mimosa close
to those speeds. Some LTE devices "should" be capable of it as well.

AFAIK, Medusa doesn't increase the capacity of any one sector, just puts many
sectors in one radio.
