Voice chat isnt essential in SL and on some sims it is not encouraged. Second Life has so much more to offer than voice chat with other users and I would encourage you to give it a try without it. Most people type back and forth in chat if they talk to one another, especially on Virtual Ability where not everyone in the community can hear. I have not noticed the voice problem you have referred to and I suspect it is something on your end. If you have a default set of speakers and mic set up I would try using that. You can use the push to talk button but you will also need to ensure that the first mute button is not checked. This is the button for your mic. The second mute button is for sound.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167588#p167588

Brad, you have been sent an e-mail. Also, Second Life has its own scripting language therefore the building plugins will not help you unless you know the language. I dont know anything about these and we advise just learning Radegast itself before experimenting with more advanced functions. Radegast will take time and patience to learn, and the new building plugins are not something you will be able to master until you know Radegast well.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167589#p167589

Re: User Guide for Accessible Second Life Client

Radegast is still very much being updated. There is a new version in the works right now. It only has one main developer and because it is an accessibility client to a sighted 3d world, it is a bit complex to update sometimes. We were having some issues with voice the other night and I think this was just a Second Life glitch. To enable voice, check the box that says enable voice. Then, tab over to the boxes that show what device or devices youre using and make sure they are correct. From there, tab over to the volume sliders. The first slider you come to will be the mic slider. Set the volume on this toward the lower end of the scale. The second slider you see will be the audio slider, which is what you hear through your speakers, and I would set this toward the high end.Brad, Im not sure what you mean by how do I interact with the voice thing? If you are referencing the speech plug in, it does not work properly and it will be best
if you dont use it. Rely soley on NVDA or JAWS and you will be fine.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167280#p167280

well, I think everything is absolutely explained clearely in the user guide. if you dont read it, go check it out cuzz thats gonna be your starting point. Ive noticed that most of you guys are making questions, about things that were already explained in the accessibility time. So, just take time to read it if you wanna have a startup guide. Now, if you have other questions regarding Seccond life, you can contact abilitty life for mentorship, or you can find people to guide you in the virtual ability island. or you can contact me in SL, I am Andy highwaterURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167102#p167102

It is hard to make money on this simulator, so I find it not so realistic. I dont want to descourage people, dont understand me wrong, but that is the reality.Bogdan, you can ride things in Second Life, and you can interact with the world very well using Radegast. And, money is not required in Second Life. Linden dollars, the Second Life currency, are only there for those who wish to use them. I have well over 22,000 items in my inventory and 99.99 percent of them were obtained at freebie stores. My advice to you is to read the accessibility guide so you will know how to move around in Second Life. There is so much more to it than just chatting. I am a blind user an
d I go ice skating, have rode horses, swim, participate in trivia games and tournaments, participate in groups, shop, explore, dance, etc.It is true, driving in SL is difficult without being able to see, but you can find assistance to take car rides, or jet ski rides if you choose. Virtual Ability has lots of community members and they are friendly. Also, Radegast is very-much still in development and who knows what kind of abilities we may have in the future.Second Life is a 3D world and it is amazing that we can access it at all. There will always be some limitations for us because we use a text-based client, but these limitations are few.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167162#p167162

Im still very much trying to figure the client out. I did a place search for free and went to two freebie stores. Even though doing the //find object command may be easier, I used alt 7 for an object search, just to see. The second place I visited claimed to have free skins for your avatar, but in the search list, all the objects were owned by people, and had odd unhelpful object names much of the time. For fun, I navigated down to an object, and clicked buy for 0l dollars. Nothing happened, so I clicked take. I got a message about the permissions system not allowing you to take items from the simulator. so Im still pretty confused about basic mechanics like this.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167195#p167195

Re: User Guide for Accessible Second Life Client

So Ive had an Sl account for a while now. I dunno what to do. Im at the Island and Ive visited a café that was cool, but not sure why I couldnt get anything as the description said they had a mall as well unless thats for show. What have you guys done on your first visits? I dont have any money and I really dont want to buy any with real cash because I think its stupid to spend real cash if theres a possibility of me earning it in-world.So yeah, if anyone sees me at Virtual ability, my SL name is Orinks.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=166982#p166982

Re: User Guide for Accessible Second Life Client

Hello guys.Well, its nice that you are loving SL. Who said you couldnt swim or ride horses and stuff like that? the client isnt only for chatting, and there is no limitation on what you can or cannot do in seccond life. The only limitation we have as blind players, is that we cant create or build objects. However, there is no limitation on what do you like to do, its totally up to you. Learning to play SL takes time and a little bit of pationce, but once you get to know all the basics and get use to the client, youre ready to go.I gotta say it here, I really apreciate a lot the help of my mentors, now I can say Im a successfull seccond life player. I cant say I know everything, but I really enjoy what I can do in SLURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=166992#p166992

User Guide for Accessible Second Life Client

Hi all. Last year I posted about an accessible client for the virtual world of Second Life called Radegast. We have now created an accessible user guide for those who are blind to help you get started with the program. This program is free and it works well with JAWS and NVDA. I use both with it and I love it. enables those who are blind to participate in Second Life. This program is free and works well with both NVDA and JAWS. If you would like to check out the user guide, you can view it here on Radegasts official site:http://radegast.org/wiki/Accessibility_GuideI hope you find the guide helpful and that you will give SL a try! It can be a wonderful place for those of us who cant see because of all the things the game has to offer.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=166796#p166796
