these documents for a while now, and members of that organization can
access the records through their site
The only thing I'd add to this is that for the photo that I save locally, I
actually put the weblink in the metadata of the properties of the file (on
a Windows PC, right click on the image and go to Properties. Then click the
Details tab and fill in any information, including the link in the

It might help to think of this more like a treasure hunt - or a mystery to
investigate. Even on the U.S. side I'm finding digging up information to
be a challenge - my grandfather came over via the passports as Antonio De
Mello Barbosa, but got listed in the first U.S. Census here

Miguel (as you know.) On my mother's side, my grandparents were 1st
generation American from Irish parents from the Cork and Kerry
When I started looking for my grandparents records here in Massachusetts, I
found that my grandfather immigrated under one name (De Mello Barbosa) but
got married under de Mello Silva (his mother's maiden name) and eventually
became just Mello. Given the amount of times surnames changed going

wished there was a contrast control to make those faded records easier to
read. If I could read them better, I'd start keeping a log of who is on
what pages to make an index for people so it would be easier
I was at the Celtic Connections genealogy conference in MA (for the

So, after almost 2 years of trying to get information from the USCIS for my
paternal grandfather, Antonio Mello, I came home to find a CD from the
USCIS - I was so excited!
Then I put it in the computer, and found two PDFs - one which was a cover
letter saying that they couldn't find any

The day I went to City Hall to find my grandparents records last summer, I
thought about going across the street to see what the Library had, but I
had spent so long in town hall that I decided to head back home, instead.
Now I feel like I missed a great opportunity. What a shame to hear this

church though, as I had been looking at another church for the
information. So thank you for that and we'll see if they respond. The
Archdiocese requests appointments and had a 6 - 8 week response rate for
