Elizabeth Cardoza is my husband’s surname. That branch of his family was from Terceira. If you go back a couple of generations to the Azores, you can see that the surname for a while was Esteves. His own grandfather used several surnames (Cardoza, Souza, Esteves, and various combinations)

Joao Ventura, the Genealogist, was able to get Graciosa records for me prior to 1913, when my grandfather's family arrived in the US. He had no problem going back four generations. Joao did great! He provided the record image along with the Portuguese transcription and English transcription.
