Hi Rick,
It's slightly more complicated than that. March 1911 was the cutoff date
for the law that required all priests to surrender their parish records to
the state. After that, the government-run Civil Registry came into effect,
and for that one there's a separate book each year, and the
Rick,
The GEDCOM standard (and by extension any decent Genealogy program) should
support the notion of a Surname prefix. This 'de' is a prime example of a
surname prefix. Unfortunately, GEDCOM doesn't really expect multiple
surnames.

Liz,
For Arrifes, you write to the Civil Registry in Ponta Delgada with the
birth date. They don't do searches for you.
The workaround would be to find an older sibling born before 1911 and
continue your genealogy back from there.

We'd need to know your genealogy software program for specific directions,
but generally it's FileExport and you pick Gedcom from the choices.

Hi Rick,
The parish books from 1911 to nowadays will either be still in the local
church or in the Diocesian Archive (for Azores that would be in Angra).
Most likely they are in the church. In 1911, the church records stopped
being the 'legal' records, so the government no longer cares about
Liz,
As Cheri said, you need to contact the 'Registo Civil' (or the local
church), but you need to know the date of the event, and the name of the

Some of the reasons may be: passport, identity booklet (pre present), identity
card, marriage and as many as the judicial would deem needed.
